I have gambled with my very life to protect Fort Chance, but it wasn't enough. Not only may I still pay with my life for my mistake, but the wraith from beyond the breach is free in Fort Chance—
And empowered by my life force, I dread what it might do. Soon, the corpses—and unresponsive spirits—begin to pile up. I can't figure out how to stop it or how to heal the spirits its hurt.
A vampire offers his help in exchange for the information I need, but I don't trust him. Witches and vampires have never been allies, and it's clear that Adler has ulterior motives. I'm not making progress on my own, however, and every new unresponsive spirit is unacceptable to me. As much as I hate it, I have no choice but to work with him.
Naturally, Adler's help comes at a price. His cooperation involves Nova in every way I wanted to avoid… especially as I seem to have developed feelings for her, which is another complication I don't need.
Adler's delusion knows no limits. Even some of his vampires have begun to move against him, but does that mean I can trust them? All vampires are monsters. My parents made sure I knew this.
Can I intervene before it's too late…
or will Fort Chance find itself faced with a nightmare it cannot wake up from?
Out February 15. Pre-order now! This trilogy is part of the Call of Six shared-world project.
Carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders While Vivienne fights a vampire and a wraith, she also struggles with some internal battles. Is she really paranoid when trying to figure out who is behind the shenanigan? Is she having Intrusive Thoughts or is she actually Connecting The Dots that will assist in solving this other-worldly murder mystery? Both mental states ofttimes seem the same, but the latter actually can lead us to solutions.
I enjoyed how the author explored the depth of her characters. Vivienne easily connects with the already-deceased, but she also has a firm grip on human relationships: ‘There’s no such thing as “just friends” because being friends matters.’ The “bad guy” is ‘on the verge of getting everything he wants without realizing the consequences.
Fave line: ‘Any window can be opened, and every house has a door.’
Will Vivienne’s efforts be in time or in vain? We’ll have to await the next in series (‘Spirit Bound’)!
This book is a distinct and powerful improvement on the first installment, offering a high-stakes supernatural narrative that is emotionally charged and deeply engaging. The author expertly explores layers of character depth, particularly through the dynamic between the guarded protagonist, Vivienne, and the complementary, lighthearted and accepting Nova. Nova's presence provides a vital balance to Vivienne’s struggles. The plot’s urgency is driven by Vivienne's battle to discern true clues from paranoia (or "connecting the dots") while tracking a dangerous villain who is "on the verge of getting everything he wants without realizing the consequences." The overall narrative is enhanced by the essential theme that relationships are paramount: "being friends matters." It was a pleasure to return to this world. Highly recommended.
Book 2 of the Spirit Court series by Sarina Langer starts right where Book 1 left off and immediately pulls you back into the story. This installment is shorter (my Kindle showed under 200 pages), but it still felt packed with important developments and details. It’s a quick read, yet the story keeps expanding the world and relationships in meaningful ways.
I especially enjoyed spending more time with Nova. Her quirky personality continues to make her such a fun character to follow, and I’m really enjoying watching how her connection with Vivienne keeps evolving. Their dynamic adds a quiet emotional layer that balances the fast pace of the plot.
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the final book takes everything next.
I was happy to be back with Vivienne and her familiars because I like this character, but I still have a hard time connecting with her. Even as her character is portrayed, she holds herself removed from everyone, and that carries over to the reader. However, I still really enjoyed this, and I find Nova such a lighthearted and accepting character which balances Vivienne perfectly. All in all, I do really like this series, and this installment is even better than the first book. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Absolutely loved it! This one was just as good as the first one. Loved how the characters got closer, how Nova and Vivi got to become friends, and more of their familiars, the friendly spirits, Vivi’s family, etc. can’t wait for book 3, about to dive into it right now but all I’m gonna say is Nova better be all right :p.
Definitely a fantastic fun read! 12/10 Definitey recommend!

The wraith should have been put up in a safe place, where anyone could not find it. Vivienne will have a great communication, with her mother if only she can take the time out from chasing wraiths residue. I feel that Brielle can find anyone to play with around her owe age. But it took lot of courage to go up against an evil vampire to retaliate against a enemy. I gave This book 4.50 stars

Vivi, Nova, and the other are all back for round two of trouble. More drama, interactions, and of course a vampire and that wraith to deal with. Had me laughing at times and wanting to slap a few characters too. But enjoyed it and getting to know everyone better. Really enjoyed the ghosts.
The first book in the series was unique and fascinating but the second takes it to a whole new level. I couldn’t put it down from the start and it’s a truly good read.
