What’s the one question the Immortal Legend Batman is afraid of? Learn the answer as the hero is drawn to a long-abandoned estate on a distant moon… now occupied by a devious resident. In a tense battle of wits—in which any mistake will have explosive, tragic consequences—can Batman solve the madman’s riddles? And more importantly…can you?
Wow what a creative and amazing issue, this explains so much about what we’ve been dealing with so far while providing one of the most creative riddler stories I’ve ever seen. The effort it took to make this is so clear and I love it so much. Especially because this issue actually includes real riddles that they challenge us to solve and are revealed later in the book, that’s awesome. But so far something has gone right over my head, the shadows disguised as Bruce. Both two-face and bane were not just disguised as Bruce when batman tracked them down and fought them, they were actually a piece of him. It’s revealed this issue that batman has been tracking down and fighting 6 shadows that split off from himself, so they have all of his memories as well. And wouldn’t you know it, another Bruce just showed up on the planet Elvir and shacked up in the castle he owns there. While walking through the town a woman mentioned to batman that people have also ben mysteriously disappearing lately. Yep, thats the shadow. As Bruce walks inside the mansion past an odd panel with circles and slots he is immediately greeted by a holographic projection of Bruce riddler shadow who all but confirms he has been taking and toying with people cause it got bored while waiting. Of course the game itself also needs some incentive so heres the deal. 3 rooms, 3 riddles, 3 minutes to solve each one. For each one solved a bomb on the hostage is defused, brute force and fail in any way and he blows up. As Bruce gets on with it and heads down the hall he immediately finds a book sitting on a table before the first room, it’s one of his favorite detective chimp mystery novels from when he was a kid. Memories immediately flood back as he remembers Alfred reading the book and the overall message that you have to look outside the lines. As Bruce heads into the first room named the question of victories, he is greeted with an insanely impressive portrait of himself seemingly slaying a shadow creature. Now honestly I didn’t solve any of these riddles myself but I noticed a fair bit of the clues that would have helped me solve it so I’ll go ahead and reveal the answers alongside each riddle vs a log entry at the end laying it out. For this one I noticed but didn’t figure out that the symbols around the painting are in pairs and if you match the pairs and figure out were they meet you can find a letter hidden in the painting which spells out the answer:untruth.
Batman of course immediately solves it and as he walks towards the next area he finds his father’s old stethoscope. He didn’t actually use it as they have much more advanced things, but it held sentimental value and brought back memories in Bruce to conversations with his father, and more importantly the message that every life matters. The next room is the question of failures, and includes 7 statues of shadows that have attacked in the past. All of the worlds where these shadows attacked are filled to the brim with Easter eggs. Kord as in Ted Kord, Fawcett as in captain marvel, metropolis, and a few others. Bruce immediately gets work Alfred to get the data on where they attacked and when and how many casualties there were. I didn’t get close to solving this one, but if you take the creatures and put their attacks in chronological order the. Use the number of causalities and find the letter in the planet corresponding to that number and then put all the answers together you get the answer: Rainbow.
Batman solves that riddle and heads to the next area where he finds handcuffs that he immediately smashes to the ground. It brings back bad memories to his time training to become the immortal legend batman with Roger Elliot, where he was cuffed and beat relentlessly every night with the lesson being that the price of progress is blood. As Bruce approaches the third riddle room deemed the question of origins he finds a room with words lining the walls but in the middle is a holographic projection of his parents being shot. His mother’s pearls are flying everywhere and if you look at the ones splattered with blood you can see from a certain angle that they are pointing to one of the words on the wall: conflux. No I personally didn’t figure that out, lol.
And finally Bruce gets to the main room with riddler waiting for him and the hostage covered in disarmed bombs. But riddler is curious to know if batman figured out the real riddle within the puzzle. Batman has, he explains that before each room he left an object to bring up a specific memory that would give a clue to the puzzle, but the clues weren’t important the memories were as he was showing that they share the same memories. Then there was the number 7, with each puzzle answer being a seven lettered word. He’s been hunting six shadows of himself and each room featured at least one shadow ot their consequences so they would be on his mind, riddler is asking if batman is the seventh Jdoe be I tee is no longer a real Bruce Wayne because he’s a shadow. He proposes that if they share the same memories how exactly are they different? Which rings up to the secret fourth puzzle, a box sitting in the middle of the room containing the “truth” about whether is a shadow himself. Bruce rejects the box and throws it to the riddler as it was constructed on a faulty assumption, Bruce never even considered it a question. He knows hes not a shadow, even if they have the same memories because of how stark their differences are. Bruce seeks knowledge and holds secrets but all of that is in the pursuit of protecting others, riddler on the other hand craves knowledge because knowledge is power and a weapon over others…or in this case…it’s a trap! Bruce then throws some batarangs and explodes the box in toddlers hands, it was a trap box the entire time. And from the explosion the man of riddles true Shado’s form is revealed with his scythe riddler cane. Riddler tries to call him boring but batman claps back by claiming he’s the one that spent months building all of this to lure him into a rudimentary trap, lol. Riddler lashes out and batman is able to dodge his attacks then bring out his own energy sword to slash riddle in half and end him. Riddler does pose a question before death, asking of because they are sentient they may have souls…Bruce finds the question interesting but kills him all the same. This half of the issue ends with a detailed log entry on how batman figured it out and giving the castle to the kidnapped man, once again revealing himself as Bruce Wayne to just hand it over.
But the we get into part 2 of this book, Nightwing and Robin are worried about batman so they decide to hit up the old timer and ask Roger Elliot about it. Now we know Roger is making moves with his son in the background, but he doesn’t let them know about that. They want to know what Bruce is doing and Roger actually lets them in on what he is thinking, there is an old technique of the way of the bat that was deemed forbidden as the last batman who attempted it died in the process. But the records allege you could become stronger by separating yourself from your flaws, that is if you survived the initial stages. So Bruce separating himself from his flaws resulted in these shadows, and if we have seen only 3 so far (with an another. Eking teased as being seen in classification 6 space) then I think that makes we are missing 2. But this also means that if the shadows are him then killing them would be like killing himself. Roger is really pissed off about this and the way they have discredited the immortal legend name, but Nightwing is adamant they the immortal legends will stand together no matter what. But that doesn’t stop Roger in the slightest and he gives his son a call to let him know he may have extra company when he finds Bruce. As it turns out Thomas knows where the last shadow is, and it means batman is coming back to Gotham!

what's up with the high rating this turd is receiving? there's still no tokusatsu in sight, the problems of the previous issues continue to pile up (namely, the annoying uberwordy baloons and the lack of any action whatsoever), what unfolds in this issue is not interesting or engaging in the slightest, why this title is still being produced is completely beyond me. I've read it only because I've found it free on the internet, but still it's a complete waste in every sense and meaning. Please do something else instead of wasting time with this utter nonsense, doing everything except reading this comic would be more fruitful.
Batman has to solve a series of riddles. The book invites the reader to attempt to solve them which is a fun approach. The second portion adds some mystery and questions at the halfway point of this series. The art and colors continue to be good.
I fell asleep reading this. It was just talk, talk, talk. And more talk blah blah blah. Jesus Christ. It was like reading a whole Tolkien book in one sitting. I give up on this series. Art is cool though.
This title has not grabbed my attention as nearly as much as Absolute Batman has! Just can't get into this series. I will probably quit soon. Batman has a million titles out there and its impossible to like them all.
