Whoever convinced me that sleeping with the hot co-owner of PUMPT Gym was a good idea should be tied to a tree and left in the woods to rot.
Too bad I'm the only one to blame.
There’s something about Dex that captured my attention the moment I first saw him, and no matter what I do, I can’t get him out of my head.
But there’s one tiny problem.
He's hearing. And he doesn’t sign. Oh, and he’s also the brother of the guy my ex is in love with.
But while three years working in another country with an ocean between us should have cured my addiction, the second I see Dex again, he’s all I want. And this time, it’s worse. This time, he’s learned my language, and he uses his hands to tell me exactly what he thinks of me.
And exactly what he wants to do when he gets his hands on me. And his lips. And his tongue.
In spite of my own rules against dating men like him, I find myself wanting to break down all the walls I’ve built up. But will giving in to Dex make me the world’s biggest hypocrite?
Or will I be making the best decision of my life?
PAH! is the third book in the Deaf Hearts series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It’s a spicy, MM, enemies to lovers rom-com featuring a burnt out, Deaf corporate cog with a country-sized chip on his shoulder, a hearing, sexy-sweet, gym owning himbo who is learning to take what he wants, especially when it’s offered, bad dates, better dates, A+ dates, light stalking, and a happily ever after.
Cora Rose loves any kind of romance and consumes way too many books each year. She currently lives in the U.S. and spends her days daydreaming about the characters inside her head.

PAH! is a fantastic second-chance romance between golden retriever Dex and grumpy Rome. Their steamy beginning sets the stage for their dynamic, which is then suddenly upended by a three-year time jump. I really appreciated this gap in time because it allowed Dex to become so proficient in ASL, which shocks Rome, upends his assumptions, and creates many new dynamics in their relationship.
Overall, the journey that Rome and Dex go on is perfect for their dynamic. These two really care for one another, and, given their shared history, their reunion is nothing short of hilariously awkward, with many misunderstandings. I also really enjoy the grading system Dex employs toward Rome as he struggles to express his feelings and emotions to someone he actually cares about. These two are perfect for one another, and watching them slowly crawl toward their HEA is highly entertaining and sweet to see.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
I have such a thing for Dark clouds and Rays of Sunshine. I'll be honest, I really, heavily disliked Rome at the start of the book. The way he treated Dex was despicable. Those three whole years (‼️) felt like a bottomless pit. His loneliness was exactly what he deserved. It was difficult (once again) to understand the hate towards the hearing. I get that Rome had a bad experience when he was young and tender, and I get that things sort of cling to you for the rest of your life, but he gave his ex so much control over his life even in absentia that he missed so much goodness. Dex was a great human being and all his musings about who he is inside and what he deserves as a person are on point. His confused infatuation with bitter Rome and the way Rome treated him, made me wish they'd never get together. Dex learning ASL just to be able to tell Rome off made me grin like an evil queen and when he does finally 'speak' to Rome, it's a thing of beauty. I'm so glad his support system were there for him. Amidst bad communication, misunderstandings and turning around and running away they finally, somehow meet in the middle and come clear on their feelings. Rome's thawing and subsequent redemption were perfection and I'm glad we got front row seats to watch his love for Dex bloom. The more the story progressed the more romantic it got. A perfect read for Valentine's Day. PAH - such a perfect title choice. I loved this story *All the stars *Favorites *To reread
Okk Rome redemption & I loved it! He was so soft with Dex & changed so much from when we met him in the first book. Dex is great for him & really broke down all his walls-i love them together
Fav part: When Dex asked what Rome needed in his home to make things more accessible & comfortable for him 🥹
“He’s light to my dark, sunshine to my rain cloud. He’s brave when I’m a fucking coward, and strong when I feel at my weakest.”
it took everything in me not to dnf once i saw “three years later.” thank fuck it was good or i would’ve hate read and hate reviewed. still no need for that time jump btw. didn’t make any sense
4.5 stars I'm so happy these authors decided to give Rome his HEA, he definitely deserved it. Even if he was rude with Thom and treated him very badly, it was very clear that he was also very much in pain because of what happened to him with his first (hearing) boyfriend. Rome appears as a very handsome grumpy guy, shielded by a thick armour that no one has ever broken and he's very frustrated because of his strong attraction to Dex, a hearing man who, by default, he should stay away from.
Dex is a wonderful character, I loved that he was committed to learning ASL not only to communicate with Rome, but also to make people feel included. I liked his relationship with his brother Thom and his partner, Robbie. Dex is an easygoing guy and he welcomed his own bisexual awakening without drama.
I adored the intimacy of Rome and Dex's interactions and the slow progression of their relationship: the authors didn't just tell us that they loved each other, but they really showed us how Dex and Rome's feelings grew and became so big that they couldn't keep contained anymore.
What prevented me from giving five full stars: I found their lack of communication a little frustrating. It was obviously necessary at first, when they didn't know each other, but when Rome was back and they started dating, their struggles to talk about feelings were too much. And the story is quite long so it felt like things were being dragged out.
I liked Lexi very much! Finally a strong wonderful female character who isn't a know-it-all nor crosses boundaries. The epilogue is so very interesting! I can't wait for the new series to come out!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, second chances, hate sex, misunderstanding Feels: 2.5/5 Steam*: 2/5 Kinks: sex in risky places Angst: low-medium HEA: HEA Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: discrimination, ableism Cheating between MCs: No Any cheating: Yes, Rome's college ex cheated on him and messed him up. Rome thought Dex had a gf/fiancee and he still hooked up with him, so Rome was kind of willing to cheat? Other person drama: the book starts with Rome being Dex's bi awakening and Dex and Rome hooking up. They have sex a few times, they are really into each other. Rome ghosts Dex without a word and moves to another country for 3 years. They both move on with others and then get back together when Rome returns. Rome thinks Dex is engaged to the woman Dex rebounded with and gets jealous and regretful when he realizes Dex has been with other guys too since him.
3.75 stars (I'm giving the stars more for the deaf representation and community of characters rather than the romance. Romance was more of a 2.75)
Rome is deaf and he has a grudge against the hearing community because he's had bad experiences, largely with his ex-boyfriend from college who talked trash about him behind his back and cheated on him, taking advantage and making fun of his hearing. He used to be f*** buddies with Robbie, who is now dating Thom. Dex is Thom's brother and owns a gym. He's a bit of a himbo. Rome is very attracted to him despite not wanting to be, and they hook up a few times. Then Rome ghosts Dex and moves away to a different country for 3 years. When he comes back, he immediately finds himself drawn to Dex again and they start hooking up again, even though Rome thinks that Dex is engaged. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, Dex decides that he's going to make Rome work for it this time, he's not just going to give him sex, he wants a relationship and Rome is going to have to date him if he wants him.
The sexual tension and the push and pull dynamic between Rome and Dex was nice. The book got off to a really good start with the tension between them. It was funny seeing Rome against his will / better judgment going feral for Dex. But the authors quickly break your heart and make you hate Rome. Rome coldly ghosts Dex after Dex was vulnerable with him. For 3 damn years. They are both with others, and a 3-year jump is a choice that I just don't enjoy. Yeah Rome was in a bad place 3 years ago, and Dex didn't quite know enough sign language, but it was a hard FIZZLE on the specialness of their connection.
Rome was an asshole, and I don't really forgive him. He walked away from Dex too fucking easily. And I felt like Rome was never really himself. After the 3-year time jump, he was always playing a role with Dex, trying to earn high marks with Dex. I never felt like Rome was happy. Dex never made him grin, never made him sigh with contentment. Dex was more open, hopeful, but I still felt like Dex and Rome were a little superficial as a couple. They had good chemistry but this wasn't hitting romance-wise. And another random complaint, I just liked that we didn't get closure on the arson. Maybe they are saving it for another book, but I felt like that closure belonged in this book.
I did like all the side characters, enjoyed seeing the past MMCs. I love the representation of the deaf community, it was handled so well.
Some notable moments:
The sexual tension here... "A car pulls up, and I verify it’s the same license plate that’s listed on my phone before sliding in. But before I can close the door, someone else shoves their way in. I grunt as I’m shoved over and turn to give the person a piece of my mind. But I don’t. I can’t. Because it’s Roman. He doesn’t even look at me, just closes the door and buckles in."
He's so obsessed... "He’s standing right there, staring with his dark, heavy-lidded eyes. Fuck. It’s a shock, breath leaving my lungs. His eyes slam into mine, and then he’s moving, his hand wrapping around my neck and walking me backward. I go without a fight, my back hitting the cool tiles behind me, Rome crowding me, his fingers flexing against my skin."
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

After book two, this one felt like a breath of fresh air!
I was really waiting for Dex and Rome’s story, because their dynamic has always been 🔥 and it absolutely delivered!
I loved that the book actually focuses on the fact that the main character is deaf — his daily struggles, communication, and the way he navigates the world. I really appreciate that this series highlights that. (Although book one still did it the best… and book two… well… let’s not talk about that 😆)
What I enjoyed most is that there were no huge breakups or catastrophic misunderstandings. Everything felt soft, supportive, and natural — just sweet, fun, and of course very hot too😏 I genuinely like this series and I really hope the authors continue focusing on deaf main characters, because that perspective makes the stories feel fresh and meaningful🙂↕️
Also — that epilogue??
Denver… I am waiting for your story very, very, VERY impatiently!!!! (And I’m pretty sure I guessed his pairing the moment we were introduced to him 😏+ A new series with new tropes and possibly even new genres (maybe darker?) seems to be coming. Denver + Archie sounds extremely intriguing 🤔 I’m very curious to see where that story goes. Keep it coming!)
AND WAIT — monster MM romance?? Okay yeah… now I absolutely cannot wait for that 😈
⭐️ 5/5 🌶️ 4/5

This is my favourite of the series so far. Rome was SUCH an ass in the first book, I couldn’t wait to see how his redemption arc was going to play out. He’s still definitely an ass in the first half but he eventually comes to his senses and, even better, does some grovelling (we love to see it).
The chemistry between Rome and Dex is absolutely on point, I could not get enough of the I-hate-you-but-I-can’t-stay-away-from-you dynamic they had. Even after the hate subsides, the I-can’t-stay-away definitely remains and it was lovely.
These books are hilarious! Some of my highlights are absolutely deranged out of context. Cora and E.M. Lindsey are doing an absolutely stellar job in this series and I can’t wait for the series continuations (and also the monster book they’re writing??!!! I need that one asap).
I really, really love a good redemption arc when it’s done well, and Rome’s definitely delivers. Now, you have to read books 1 and 2 to fully enjoy the experience. From the moment we first met him in Kiss Fist as Robbie’s disgruntled former FWB, he was easy to dislike, a total jerk, bitter about their situationship ending, and especially salty about being left for a hearing guy.
Then in ILY, we finally start to see the cracks in his armor. His attraction to Dex, the lovable, himbo gym co owner who also happens to be Thom’s (Robbie’s boyfriend… ouch) brother, was the beginning of him really unraveling. They have a drunken hook up, that only makes things more complicated. Both are left super confused, but for totally different reasons.
Rome is furious with himself because he despises hearing guys after a traumatic experience when he was younger, so the idea of being drawn to one absolutely wrecks him. Dex, meanwhile, has always thought of himself as straight, yet he can’t deny that Rome flips something in him he can’t explain.
Despite all that confusion, they just can’t stay away from each other. Dex genuinely wants to explore what they could be, but Rome, who’s super jaded, bolts. He literally runs off to France for three years, leaving Dex completely ghosted. But the connection between them never really fades, and when Rome finally comes back, they fall right back into the same intense pull they had before.
The grumpy/sunshine dynamic between them is honestly one of my favorite things about this story. Dex is sweet, caring, and so effortlessly endearing. He puts his feelings out there without hesitation, and he’s willing to put in the work. Rome, on the other hand, is cautious and wary, but Dex makes him show up, and Rome slowly realizes he wants to try, even if it scares him.
They’re genuinely perfect for each other, you can’t help rooting for them the whole way through.
One of the things I especially loved was how Dex immerses himself in the Deaf world. He learns the language, makes an effort to understand Rome’s perspective, and tries to support him in ways no one else has. Watching him recognize the hurt and mistrust Rome carries, and then actively work to bridge that gap, was incredibly touching.
As with the rest of the series, the spice is definitely there, but it’s the character development that really makes everything shine. And the authors’ love and respect for the Deaf community continues to be one of the strongest parts of these stories. I feel like I’ve genuinely learned so much through these 3.5 books.
I’m really loving this series. Dex and Rome are easily my favorite couple so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
But this book is about Rome and Dex. Rome is a hard person to like in the previous books. We know he’s had previous trauma, but he takes it out on everyone and is pretty much an arsehole. Dex is a big teddy bear, and he falls fast and hard for Rome. He isn’t given enough credit for trying with Rome at the beginning. He’s coming to terms with his bisexuality, he’s trying to learn sign, and he’s taking on a man who visibly hates hearing people.
However, eventually, Rome realises how he’s been acting is wrong, and he spends time making it up to Dex. It’s cute and enjoyable watching them move towards a stronger relationship. There are some left-over questions like who set fire to the gym, but there are more books coming, so hopefully, answers will be in those.
Well, this was disappointing 🫤 From the reviews I skimmed, I'm definitely in the minority with that opinion, but the story was far more gratuitous sex than actual character development, which wasn't what I was here for. Not only did it mean I was never able to get all that emotionally invested - I mean, how could I when their emotions were all tell, not show, and there was no evidence ever given for why they were so into each other, making their HEA feel shallow and unearned? - but it was also a huge let down given how authentically and in depth Lindsey usually writes their characters. Honestly, half the book just felt like a plug for Denver's story and the murder brothers' series, and for the first time I can remember when reading one of Lindsey's books, the Deaf culture representation felt like a plot-engine wrapper instead of an authentic part of the world. Sigh. I mean, clearly it worked for a hell of a lot of other readers and I'm happy for them that they were able to enjoy it so much. The sex scenes were hot and very much in the style of Rose's work, but while I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, the writing partnership of these two authors just didn't work for me in this one. ☹️
KU Read 350ish Pages MM Romance Enemies To Lovers Deaf MMC Grumpy-ish x Sushine-ish Bi-Awakening Found Family
Dex and Rome were inevitable, Pah is so fitting for them. I have to be honest and say I had little interest in Rome's 'redemption arc' but I am glad Dex made him work for his affections after the poor way he treated him 3 years ago. All-in-all this series is an eye opener and so interesting and educational a well as being a nice romantic series to read. It is certainly a unique series and I would recommend it to friends looking for something different.
Lindsey?
I am so obsessed with this series. Rome and Sex (Dex) are such a sexy couple and it's so cool to see them try to figure who they are as people and as a couple. A wonderful redemption arc for Rome.
4⭐️ The delightful third book in the Deaf Hearts series! This story follows Dex, the co-owner of Pumped (the gym), and Rome, a friend of Dex’s brother’s partner, Robbie. (You’ve gotta read book 1 and 2 to get to know all the characters!)
Rome is dead-set on never dating a hearing guy, but can’t resist Dex and his friendly, sexy charm. On the other hand, Dex has never dated men, but is very open to whatever he has going on with Rome.
You’re going to get fun content in this book, such as: -grumpy/sunshine -deaf / hearing couple -one-sided animosity to hookups to strangers to lovers -Michael being evil, and nasty shelter cats -some beloved characters from the series, and some new, mysterious characters introduced -bad communication (not because of a language barrier. Rome is just bad at talking about his feelings)
This book has a mix of elements that make it interesting to follow. You absolutely must read this series in order, because this story starts of right in the middle of Dex and Rome’s established dynamic. This book has a heavy focus on Dex learning to love, accept himself, and accept others. Of course, the romance is the key factor, and these two are really cute. Dex grades Rome on his date etiquette, and it’s very fun!
This book also sets up some interesting groundwork for the next books in the series! It seems that the Deaf Hearts books will take a darker turn in the future, and I’m ALL for it. Though I did like Dex and Rome, the build up to the next books got me most excited!
That being said, Rome’s character development was amazing. I loved reading his journey! Plus, as usual, this story made me laugh and smile 🥰
This is the third book in the Deaf Hearts series by E.M. Lindsey and Cora Rose. It’s another memorable story, and can be read as a standalone. Dex and Roman are at odds with one another at first. They push each other’s buttons. Rome can be flat out rude sometimes, while Dex is mostly a sweetheart that gets provoked. Some time and distance apart doesn’t lessen the pull both MCs seem to feel towards one another.
I appreciate that Dex learns how to communicate with Rome and their friends properly. I also appreciate that Roman puts in effort as he slowly lets his walls down and gets vulnerable with Dex. This pair have chemistry in spades, and it’s clear they possess deep feelings for one another. It’s really heartwarming seeing them take care of each other and communicate honestly.
This story has some humorous moments as well as some slightly dramatic ones. It’s full of heat, heart, and working towards getting what you want out of life. There are lots of moments that will make you smile, and quite a few that will make you see beneath the surface into the genuine heart of the MCs.
I loved seeing the rest of the characters from the series in this book again. This group of friends really know how to support one another. I enjoyed seeing the growth in Rome and the genuine affection between him and Dex. As their feelings (and relationship) progresses to something more, it’s even more apparent that they are meant to be to. I especially love that Dex and Rome achieve an HEA that is hard-earned. I definitely recommend this one!
Lindsey and Rose have done an excellent job with this series. I can’t wait to see what’s going on with Denver’s story - book one in a new series set in the Deaf Hearts world.
PAH! completely blindsided me in the best possible way. Going in, I was prepared to tolerate Rome at best. He’s been kind of a jerk throughout the series: emotionally distant, frustrating, and very good at running away when things get hard. So when his book opens with him regretting sleeping with Dex, I assumed this would just be more of the same. I was wrong.
The pining in this book is intense. Three years apart, an ocean between them, and feelings that never went away? Devastating. Dex has had Rome under his skin from the very beginning, and it’s impossible not to understand why. Dex co-owns the gym with his brother and has gone out of his way to learn sign language, not just for accessibility or work, but specifically for Rome. That detail alone says everything about the kind of man Dex is.
Dex is patient, grounded, and endlessly understanding in a way Rome has never experienced before. Watching him gently reassure Rome, meet him where he is, and never push too hard was incredibly satisfying. There is a misunderstanding, but instead of unnecessary drama, we get communication and growth, which makes their relationship feel real and earned.
Once Rome finally stops running and allows himself to take a chance, these two are genuinely adorable together. Dex grading their dates was one of my favorite parts, and seeing Rome soften and open up completely changed how I felt about him. By the end, I loved him.
The cameos from the rest of the series made everything feel full-circle and cozy, and Dennis the cat absolutely stole the spotlight. Truly an icon.
I’ve loved this entire series, but PAH! feels like the perfect emotional payoff. Tender, funny, and full of heart. Cora Rose and E.M. Lindsey absolutely nailed it.
This is my favourite of the series. The development of Rome and Dex's relationship was nicely paced and felt natural over the course of the book.
It likely helped that both characters have been on the periphery since book one, so it felt natural to focus on their relationship and deep dive with them.
I enjoyed the time jump, it felt nicely placed within the series as a way to move it forward as a whole and bring it into a new era ready for the spin off (add on?).
The addition of new characters was also fun and well done in terms of building them into the world and making them intriguing, without them overpowering the current duo.
I loved watching Rome grow and develop as a character, opening himself up to Dex and allowing himself to be vulnerable. It was also good to see Dex being supportive but also strong enough to make sure his own needs were met.
The world is easy to understand, as most contemporary settings are, but what I love about this series is the insight into a community and culture that I have limited understanding of. I know from a personal standpoint it's made me open myself to being more considerate to the deaf community as a whole and letting my eyes see more.
This whole series is fun. It touches on serious topics with humour, fun plots, and relatable characters ❤️ also... The spice... It spices!
I enjoyed this book so much. The authors and series are new to me, but undoubtedly a series i will return to. The crossover characters are great and the general premise of the series is completely different to anything else I have read.
It's not a dark read and honestly I wasnt disappointed. It was refreshing to step out of my norm.
The authors have respectfully produced a series based on the deaf community, inclusivity and the societal struggles a deaf person encounters, not just throughout day to day life but also in relationships.
Dex and Rome's story sucked me in from the beginning, following their navigation into new territory for them both. Dex, our gym owner with his bi-awakening and Rome, the grumpy, reluctant brother's boyfriends ex, learning to overcome his insecurities of a previous relationship.
The spice in this was off the scale! - these authors know how to write MM scenes 🥵
The dynamic between Dex and Rome was well balanced with humour and seriousness, I found myself smiling at their exchanges so much - they were so cute together and the dating strategy was so original.
I loved the incorporation of the side characters and of course the epilogue sets us up for whats coming next - rest assured, you'll be seeing more reviews of this series, these authors work so well together.
I would definately describe this as a feel good book, its light and reads phenomenally well, with well balanced chemistry and tension surrounding relationship development and finding love and acceptance. Perfect for after a particularly heavily triggered read.
MM Contemporary Romance - Second chance - Strangers to Enemies - High Heat - Angry S3x- Hearing x Deaf - Enemies to lovers - Found family -Emotional Burn.
Pah! is the third book in the Deaf Hearts series by E.M. Lindsey and Cora Rose. While it features a new couple in Rome and Dex, the story does connect with some elements of Robbie and Thom’s book, Kiss-Fist, and there is some backstory from other books that will make things a little richer here. We were teased about Rome and Dex hooking up at the end of ILY, and we knew how adamant Rome has been about not dating a hearing man, so things are set up here nicely for a juicy enemies-to-lovers story and the authors deliver well. The story starts off all heat and intensity, as the guys give in to the incredible physical chemistry between them.
We meet some interesting new characters here and there are a few threads left open. It turns out that there will be a connected series set in this world, and I am super intrigued about where things are going. I have enjoyed this series a lot, and am really excited to follow along as this world expands.
As always, the amount of joy I get from reading a story from these authors is unmatched 💞
So, the backgrounds of these main characters is a bit complicated 🙈 we meet Dex, who is Thom's brother and Roman, who used to have a crush on Robbie, whom we've met in part one of this series. So, everybody knows each other, right. That really makes things more difficult for sure.
Rome has had bad experiences with hearing people and he really has a hard time trusting someone. He definitely is a bit of a grump, but in the most loveable way 🥰 Dex has lots of contact with hearing people, and he is learning ASL.
Both of them are amazing guys, and I rooted for them to get together like crazy.
This author duo really never fails to make me love, it's fantastic 😅 can’t wait for more 🙂↕️
This is easily my favorite book in the series so far. Dex and Rome completely stole my heart. I’m such a sucker for grumpy x sunshine, and these two do it so well. Dex is openly soft, patient, and sincere. He doesn’t play games with his feelings and isn’t afraid to show up fully, even when it’s hard. Rome is more guarded and hesitant, shaped by past hurt and mistrust, but watching him slowly let Dex in felt so real and earned. You can actually see the moment where he decides that love might be worth the risk.
What really made this story stand out for me was the care put into how Dex steps into Rome’s world. He doesn’t just fall in love with Rome. He puts in the effort to understand him, to learn, to listen, and to respect the Deaf community and Rome’s lived experiences. Seeing Dex recognize Rome’s pain and actively try to bridge that distance was incredibly moving. Their connection felt intentional, gentle, and deeply supportive, and I couldn’t help rooting for them every step of the way.
Rome and Dex. I didn’t know how much I needed their story until I read their chapter at the end of ILY. Let me tell you it was HOT!
Fast forward to their book and it did not disappoint. Pretty sure I was in Cora and Mads DMs raving about my love for these two.
This book was filled with everything I love. Lots of spice and lots of angry I don’t love you but I actually really love you moments. These two were meant to be the whole time but they fought so hard that I was screaming at them while reading.
Once they got together it was adorable and perfect and cute and made me super giddy.
-mm romance -enemies to lovers -hearing/deaf -slow emotional burn -high heat hate sex -hurt/comfort -affection starved -found family
gahhhh there is just so much i loved about these two! like yk parts of me was like yo just communicate...but then its like...there is this whole ass language barrier complication in the way of that. duh! but the time jump & dex being SOOOO there for rome was everything!! gahhh i loved them!!
