The Curse and the Crown #1-4

The Curse and the Crown: Complete Series Box Set

Rate this book
A complete slow-burn romantic fantasy series perfect for fans of Beauty and the Beast and enemies-to-lovers romantasy.

When Kaylina arrives in the kingdom capital, determined to prove herself to her family, she stumbles into trouble and runs headlong into the powerful royal ranger, Lord Vlerion. He’s aloof, sexy, dangerous, and… he accuses her of being a spy.

To remove suspicion from her name, Kaylina must work with him to stop the real danger to the crown.

But she soon learns that Vlerion suffers from a family curse. When he experiences strong emotions, he turns into a deadly, uncontrollable beast who can’t tell friend from foe.

Irritating him would be a bad idea. Developing feelings for him would be even worse. Unfortunately, as Kaylina spends more time with Vlerion, she struggles with both.

If she can’t keep from rousing the beast, she’ll be dead long before she can prove herself to her family.

I could not stop reading

I loved the snarky fun banter and the characters who weren't perfect (as in no one is perfect and the characters were real with depth because of the personalities fleshed out). From the first book you wondered how the curse could be lifted and what was happening to the main character as she developed interesting powers. The slow discovery was the right pace. And I loved the taybari. Such fun yet intelligent creatures. I loved how kaylina longed to just open a meadery and life kept interrupting her plans!! So hard to say why I loved this without giving away the story but it was well written with lots of snark and plenty of promised passion.

Completely ruptured!

I love the series. It was so well thought out full of beautiful details and vivid descriptions. I love the character development and the full picture you got of everything. I did, however wish that there was more at the end about their future. I want to know a little bit about what happened afterwards. It almost felt a bit too buttoned up in the last pages. But otherwise, it was absolutely fantastic! It was fantastic, regardless of my desire desires for more, but I really feel it could be warranted.

As per, exciting, salty and romantic.

I have enjoyed all Ms Buroker's books. Always a charismatic, protective and amazingly talented hero, an attractive, competent, reliable and clever heroine with interesting and inventive storylines. These two fight through difficulties and dangers, losing friends sometimes but always holding on to their course. Easy to read them again. Well done.

Heavens, it is so refreshing to read an author who doesn't feel the need to be the next Maas. It's possible to have a great fantasy setting that just lets the story get on with itself. It's possible to have a consistent magic system. It's possible to have a love story that doesn't require a rating. It's possible to have great writing without the furbelows getting in the way.

well done

Excellent read! Great story line, lots of twists, teasing romance, except for one little flaw. A lead round from a sling will kill, especially to the back of the head or the temple.

A very entertaining read.

It’s amazing how much trouble an irreverent commoner can attract when setting up a meadery. I love the author’s sense of humour and the slow-burn romance. Great story and characters.

I don't know why but I struggled quite a bit to finish this series. I almost DNF'd it a few times. The world building was great and there were so many fantasy elements that I love, but I just could not enjoy it for some reason. The more I read it, the more it loses me. I felt like I had to force myself to get through Book 2 and 3, and Book 4 is when things finally started picking up. Even then, for me, I struggled to read the first half of Book 4. It took 4 books for the romance to finally happen and, though I love slow burn, this was much too slow for me. Even then, towards the end, it was a bit rushed. Overall, it was a 3/5 for me and, as much as I enjoyed the fantasy elements, I really wished there was more romance element added.
