Thank you so much to Netgalley and Wattpad Webtoon Book Group for the ARC!

Did I request this on NetGalley because the man in the cover is FINEEEE!!! Yes. Yes I did.
Was it worth it? YESSSSSS.

Truly one of the most bingeable webtoons I've read in a hot minute. My poor girl Su-ae is going through it. An underappreciated, awkward, high school student who clearly wants to feel loved and appreciated like the main heroines from the books she reads (felt) and yet...she is putting up with her terrible boyfriend. And what does this man do? Goes around AND CHEATS ON HER?? (MINU WHEN I CATCH YOU). Luckily, we also get to see the progression of a new, angsty relationship with the cover man himself, Eunkyeok. Their dynamic already seems so much more authentic, and you can already sense some tension (and I ate it UP). Truly the perfect Webtoon for those who love romance, angst, drama, and (hopefully) revenge.

Since it was only Vol.1 there was a bit of an abrupt ending but I'm so excited to see how the story progresses!! ESPECIALLY the jellyphone aspect??? I must know who is behind it!

Art: 10/10
Bingeability: 10/10
Eunhyeok: 10/10 (hehe)

Thank you again to NetGalley and Wattpad Webtoon Book Group!

Operation: True Love follows Su-ae’s love life in high school as she navigates her relationship with her boyfriend, who doesn’t care for her as much as she does him.

This graphic novel is adorable and the plot is the perfect pace to keep you hooked. Anytime I read a manga centered on high school romance, I am hesitant because it is easy for it to be too cringe to handle; however this is a perfect indulgence. I was giggling and my feet were kicking.

I appreciated that the FMC had friends to talk to, despite them not being major characters, because it is rare where I see that when it comes to female characters in manga.

The only part of the graphic novel that surprised me was the abrupt ending. I wish the transition was smoother for the reader to understand that a cliffhanger, despite it being anti-climatic, was being established.

If you too wish to giggle, kick your feet, and just have a fun time, I recommend picking up this manga!

Book Review: Operation: True Love, Vol. 1 by kkokkalee and Dledumb

There is something uniquely humbling about being told your romantic prospects are objectively bleak, and Operation: True Love delivers that information to Shim Suae with almost clinical detachment. Her boyfriend, Kang Minu, treats her with the kind of indifference usually reserved for expired coupons, while her stepsister seems a little too comfortable occupying his attention. This is all before a mysterious system informs Suae that, unless something changes, she is not exactly on track for a fulfilling love life. Not ideal, but apparently quantifiable.

Naturally, this leads to a perfectly rational response, which is to treat love like a problem that can be solved with enough effort and strategy. Suae decides she will simply become more lovable, as one does, and starts navigating her relationships like she is trying to improve a performance metric. The issue is that love refuses to cooperate. The more she tries to optimize it, the more obvious it becomes that she has been accepting very little from people who are giving even less.

Enter Go Eunhyeok, Minu’s best friend, who does something radical by paying attention. His role in Volume 1 is less obvious love interest and more quiet contrast. He notices when something is wrong, he actually listens, and he steps in at moments where Minu either cannot or will not. It is not that he is overwhelmingly charming. It is that he behaves like a baseline decent person, which unfortunately makes him stand out. The art supports this dynamic in a subtle but effective way, with clean, expressive visuals that rely on small facial shifts, awkward pauses, and side glances to carry emotional weight. It makes the social discomfort feel specific rather than exaggerated.

What gives the story some weight is that beneath the premise and the high school drama, it is really about self worth. Suae is not just dealing with a bad relationship. She is realizing, slowly and somewhat painfully, that she has been undervaluing herself for a long time. The humor is dry and a little uncomfortable, but it works because the emotional arc feels grounded. It is not subtle about where things are going, but it is honest enough to keep you reading. I would land at about 3.5 stars for now, with the sense that it could climb higher as the story actually delivers on everything it is setting up.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Quick Summary: A high school-themed WEBTOON comic

My Review: Operation: True Love, Vol. 1 by kkokkalee with Dledumb is a "WEBTOON Unscrolled Graphic Novel." It is scheduled for its U.S. release on 7/28/26. "This volume collects episodes 1 to 10..."

About the Book: "...high schooler Su-ae...discovers that Jellypop, a flip phone stored in her locker, is sentient—and Jellypop has a lot to say about Su-ae’s love life.

It’s up to Jellypop to help Su-ae navigate the peaks and pits of teenage love, and finally get the high school love story she deserves!"

In My Own Words: A young girl loses herself in hesitation, heartbreak, betrayal, and a mysterious flip phone with an unknown origin. As she tries to figure out what she wants, an unexpected triangle happens upon her.

My Final Say: This was so my speed. I love a good story, and this one was that!

Su-ae is an interesting character. She is learning to find her way. Although she is timid, lacking in emo-bravery, and hesitant to confront what needs to be confronted right now, she still has a forthrightness about her. I can foresee change coming for her.

AND... that cliffhanger - BOOM! + Duh duh duh. The next volume cannot get her fast enough. I liked this volume so much that I may take a stroll through my Webtoon. Let's get it!

I’m not even going to pretend I’m better than this. I requested this ARC because of the cover. Yes, I judge books by their cover. Yes, I have zero shame about it. The expressive illustrations and soft color palette are so pretty I just can’t say no.

The plot is entertaining in that dramatic, slightly unhinged way that I absolutely thrive on. Messy relationships. Emotional chaos. Questionable decisions. Also, I have so many questions about that Jellypop phone. I need to know more about it.

Now, Su-ae. I kinda like her. I do. But I also want to wake her tf up. The bar is in HELL. Why are we still tolerating this sorry excuse of a boyfriend??? I was sitting there like please… PLEASE stand up. And if I were Su-ae, I would definitely kick Ra-im back to the streets. No second thoughts.

Eunhyeok, did you know that showing emotions is NOT a crime? I like my men a little mysterious, a little morally questionable, sure. But this is emotional hide-and-seek. Stop giving my girl mixed signals before I personally intervene. But do I still like him? Unfortunately, yes. Maybe.

I haven’t read this on Webtoon before, but I just KNOW that Dohwa is about to be important. There’s something there. I’m seated and ready for whatever chaos he brings in the next volume.

Minu and Ra-im. You will not be missed. Exit stage left. ShiBYE.

Overall, this was a dramatic and entertaining read. I’m invested, I’m curious, and I will absolutely be continuing.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this read!

Wow wow wow! This is one of the most addictive stories I read in a while. It has everything I love in a high school aged romance/drama, including the relationship drama, the mysterious hot guy, and our main character who is honestly just trying to make the most of what she has. Not only is it just about love and boyfriends, but there is a strong plot line about standing up for yourself, which I thought was really well done. The characters are developing the more the story progresses, which makes sense and follows a very natural time line. I do wish that the more magical aspect was a little more explained, but I feel like that is something to come in a future volume. All the characters seemed so real and I honestly enjoyed everything.
My only wish was that the ending of this volume was not that abrupt. It felt like there should have been more to at least create a semi-ending for the volume than cutting off in what I felt was the middle of a scene. My one wish was for just overall more in this volume, but it seems like Su-ae's story has just begun. That being said, the content given in this volume wasn't enough to really grip me and steal my heart as much as I did enjoy it.
Outside of that, the story telling was well done and the art was beautiful. I can't wait to read the future installments in this new series!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Minu sucks :DDD That's it. That's the review.

Okay, but on a more serious note. I really feel for Su-ae. It's a bit frustrating that she keeps letting herself get walked over, but the narrative does well to make you understand why she feels so stuck. I'm also pretty invested in the cheeky mysterious texter on the phone and all the details surrounding it. You don't see too much of the magical realism aspect, which was shocking. By the end of volume 1, she has yet to discover the phone's abilities. Very slow on getting to its main premise. Not an issue, but surprised me.

Eunhyeok is a very solid love interest. He gets lots of extra points by having a goofy side. Cool guys are fun and all, but they really sell it when they're goofs. Am side eying him a bit since he's so willing to be friends with people he thinks suck, though... But there's a single moment where he has a flashback that made my heart squeeze. It's a good addition to his character to explain some of his softness.

The art is also very pretty in this, and that's always a bonus :D

So overall, a fun experience, and I'll likely be picking this up on Webtoon to continue on with the story! Especially since the end left me super curious to see what would happen next.

Thank you for NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

First and foremost, the artstyle is to DIE for. The colors, the character design (especially that of the EunHyeok!), the facial expressions were amazing and added to the overall storytelling. everything about the artstyle I loved.

Of course this is just Vol. 1 so I know that I can't comment on the entirety of the story, but I will say that I like what I have read so far. It's not going too fast but ee get a glimpse into what we know is going to happen and in this vol, they start laying down the foundation.

Anyway, I read this in such a short amount of time because it was just a page turner (page scroller?) and I recommend this to anyone who loves to see rapid but reasonable character development and drop dead gorgeous art style.

3.5 rounded up to 4 on Goodreads.

Su-ae is the embodiment of a struggling high schooler who desperately wants the romance she’s read about in so many books. Stuck in a one-way relationship, Su-ae is seemingly content in an unhealthy cycle.

When she discovers a sentient jellyphone that has several remarks to make about her toxic relationship, Su-ae begins to take a second glance at who she is and what she wants in her life. With a (slightly tragic) romantic high school comedy setting, this will be a fun read for anyone who likes to see an underdog (eventually) win.

The reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because it took me 20-30 pages to really get into the story. I also haven’t seen much of the supernatural element that’s a huge trademark for this series, though this is only volume one in their defense. I also struggle to see why Su-ae so willingly stays in an unhealthy relationship even though she knows her feelings are not reciprocated. Yes, it is explained a bit, and yes I may just be a bit of a cynic, but it still has me a bit confused. Regardless, a fun read and I plan on continuing the series as more volumes release!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC!

I first read Operation True Love as a webcomic when I was twelve, and now, three years later, coming back to Volume 1 as an ARC felt incredibly nostalgic. Even though I already knew the general direction of the story, it was still a really fun experience revisiting where everything began.

This story has always stood out to me because of its unique concept, that love being something that can be measured, and the emotional messiness that comes with that. The main character’s situation is frustrating at times, especially watching her deal with a clearly unbalanced relationship, but that’s also what makes it feel real. It captures that awkward, confusing stage of figuring out your worth and what you deserve from other people.

There’s also something addictive about the drama, even when it feels chaotic. It’s the kind of story that pulls you in, makes you roll your eyes, and then somehow keeps you turning the page anyway even if the characters are insufferable at times!

Overall, reading Operation True Love, Volume 1 was an enjoyable experience!

Operation: True Love volume 1 is a romantic drama with supernatural elements. It follows Su-ae, a high school student whose life takes a turn after she discovers a flip phone that sends her mysterious texts about her love life. Her relationship with her boyfriend feels less than ideal, as he lacks consideration for her, and her step-sister is getting too close for comfort.

What I enjoyed about volume 1 is that it sets up a mystery surrounding the phone with many questions left unanswered that makes me want to keep reading. Her relationship dynamic already feels frustrating in a way that pulls you in to see it resolved. I also liked being introduced to the other male leads early on since you can tell they’ll play a bigger role later. And of course, the art style is pretty, I love the color palette and overall vibe of it.

This story is perfect for those who are interested in high school drama and romance! It sets up the story for some angst in the future.

I’ve also read the webtoon version and enjoyed it, so I’m excited for the release of volume 1. I love the cover art!

*Review of an arc received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I didn’t enjoy this as much as I wanted to. I tried, but the characters annoyed me so much, and I’m glad I was able to finish so I didn’t need to give a dnf review.

Su-ae, the main character, is a shy, timid girl. She always craves to her boyfriend, Minu, even if she isn’t treated well. Once he does something nice for her, even if it’s small, like buying her a snack, she immediately forgives him and forgets why she was even mad at him in the first place. Minu was such a scumbag. Su-ae also couldn’t work up the courage to break up with him because she loved him so much. It was clear to me that the feelings weren’t reciprocated, and that she just a “plaything” or “doll” to him. I didn’t like her personality for that fact since it felt like she was craving love.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m more of a headstrong girlie who stands up for myself and my rights and I didn’t enjoy how Su-ae’s character was written at all.

This could be a bad influence on younger teens, so I recommended this for 15+.

I have loved this webtoon for a long time and I get so excited to see when my favorite digital comics get picked up for physical media.

This follows a highschool girl who is going through growing pains. Boyfriends, friends ships, all the feelings, and a mysterious cell phone that seems to be taunting and helping her all at the same time.

Our main female character is starting to feel like her her boyfriend just isn't into her anymore. As these suspicions arise, a cell phone magical appears in her locker and begins sending her messages.

These messages seem almost mean, but they are showering her whats really happening around her. People are not what they seem and their intentions are not always in her interest.

As she navigates the hellscape that is highschool and feelings, she is coming to realize that love shouldn't mean complaincy.

I still very much loved reading this, but I did not love how volume 1 ended. It did seem to end to abruptly and I can see that being a big turn off for new readers.

P.s. You guys had no business making that cover so dreamy, but I am glad you did.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to the e-ARC for review purposes.

Unfortunately this one was a miss for me. I was confused most of the time and the characters are really unlikable and frankly annoying*. I had high hopes for this, but it just did not work for me at all.

I think one of the main issues is the start and finish. The start makes it seem like you will get further explanation of what is going on throughout the rest of the volume, but that doesn't happen at all. The ending was also very abrupt. I think if you've read the Webtoon before and know what is going to happen next the cut off at the end may make more sense, but I'm coming in from never reading it online.

I would have rated this higher if the characters were better. I would have been willing to overlook some of the plotting issues if the characters were enough to distract me.

*Added to mention: I think I may just be too old for this one. The characters are very childish and I think a teen would be able to relate with them a little more.

Operation: True Love, Vol. 1 by kkokkalee & Dledumb - Mild spoilers The art for this manhwa was gorgeous; the characters’ emotions were beautifully conveyed in every scene. The story itself was very juicy and dramatic, but I was disappointed in the way the author used the mysterious cell phone. The opening few pages made it very important and intriguing, but it rarely appeared in the rest of the book. Admittedly, this book only collected the first 10 chapters of an ongoing manhwa (138 chapters and counting) but in 300+ pages I had hoped for more supernatural action. As it is, this book is a great story for dishy teenage angst & first love/heartbreak fans.

Thank you Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the advanced reader’s copy!!

Notes:

-138+ chapters (13 books’ worth of content) available on Webtoon
-High angst high drama

This story has a lot of great potential. It’s an interesting perspective for the FMC knowing she’s not “lovable” romantically through a magic phone, and how she is trying to go through her life knowing this.

I will say, it flows a bit weird for me for the first 25% of the story. Recognizing it’s only the first volume, there’s a lot of jumping around between the phone used to see love capacity, and then her relationship with Minu, and then throwing her friend/sister into the mix. I do wish the ending had been a bit more anticlimactic. It seemed like the story just ended and didn’t have any transition to prepare you for the end of volume 1.

It’s definitely one I binged pretty quickly and thought as a super cute romantic drama Manwha, and will definitely be looking forward to the following volumes!!

This is a 'magical realism' webtoon. Su Ae is not as pretty, charismatic, friendly like her sister. Her sister is the embodiment of popular girl with model looks and body. So as you can imagine while she loves her sister, things are splitting in a very real way. Change in groups of people they hang out with, mainly Su Ae is not really hanging out with anyone except her boyfriend, who is not really into her. And only friend in this whole situation is she has none, except this random app on the phone called Jellypop.

So it's a cute premise, angsty teen, pretty art work, great start. But mid way it kind fizzled. I'm not sure if it's the translation or the plot here. But I find myself not as engaged on the last 3rd of the book. I feel they were setting up for a love triangle, but then that's where this book ends. I'm on the fence about if I'd want to keep going or not.

Thanks Netgallley & Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the ARC.

I will admit I saw these gorgeous webtoon going around for the longest but never got the chance to read it myself. I finally got the opportunity and it’s not what I expected, now i know why it’s titled the way it is lol. The art is absolutely beautiful and apparently it gets even better throughout the story, sign me up now! The story though is… invoking to say the least. The cliffhanger didn’t help at all because the amount of times I wanted to jump through the screen to slap some sense into su-ae is insane, I’m trying to sympathize but even I can’t do what she’s doing 😂. Minu would’ve been gone and Ra-im would be for the streets. I do give props where it’s due because I want to know what’s going to happen next and I can’t wait to find out so that means I got to lock in for the ride. We get a magical flip phone, a girl stuck with a jerk bf, and a guy who may or may not have feelings for her. This YA high school manhwa follows Su-ah as she tries to figure out her love life, or lack of one, while dealing with a toxic bf and a foster sister who makes her life even harder.

It’s definitely fast-paced, and the artwork is beautiful. I really thought Eunhyeok liked her, but now I’m not so sure. Maybe he was just giving classic second-lead in a Kdrama 🤷🏻‍♀️. Su-ah can be a bit of a doormat at first, but when she finally stands up for herself, it’s satisfying, even if it takes time. And that cliffhanger? I need volume 2 immediately!!!!!

This is my honest opinion for the ARC I received. Thank you to the author, Webtoon Unscrolled, and NetGalley for the opportunity.

The drama!!! I am loving the humor, romance, and high school drama that this graphic novel brings!

Su-ae’s boyfriend, Minu, treats her terribly. Her boyfriend’s friend, Eunhyeok, and a magical jellypop phone, constantly remind her of it. Not only that, but the phone reveals that Su-ae just isn’t cut out for love.

Su-ae is such a relatable character. She’s stuck in a relationship with a guy she knows doesn’t always treat her well, but yet she can’t seem to end it. Her lack of self-confidence keeps her struggling to stand up for herself. But the one person who she seems to be more herself with is Eunhyeok. There are definitely times that you want Su-ae to make a different choice, but it’s so realistic to what happens in relationships, especially high school ones.

I read through this so quickly and was so disappointed once I got to the last page! I thought something was wrong with my app! How could it end like that?! To say that I’m looking forward to the next volume is an understatement. Definitely pick this up if you’re looking for something fun and binge worthy!

I received this as an ARC from Wattpad Webtoon group via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This is a 2.5 for me

This is a great graphic novel. I have read it on Webtoons and laughed so hard. So when the opportunity to read it in book form came about, of course, I had to say yes. It still is hilarious. One girl in the whole world who is an anomaly, having no love points. That was funny. She does get on my nerves. A bit, but it was worth the read. The art is great too.

My only reason this is not 5 stars is that the copy I got was bad. Panels were all out of order or stacked right on top of one another, which made it hard to understand. The way the panels were cut, you read some reactions, then you get the part where they said that.

For example, Seohw was talking about how she just broke up with her boyfriend. And we read Su-ae said what do you mean, finally. Then, on the next page, we get to where the friend said finally you dumped him or something along those lines. So Su-ea was reacting to something that hadn't been said yet.

The moving panels to overlap to make it "look better" didn't, in my opinion. So sadly, it missed the mark.

After Su-ae mysteriously finds a jelly pop flip phone her life turns right upside down. Her boyfriend and Sister are not who they seem. The boy who has always seen here with pity is shown in a different light after witnessing something that breaks her heart.
Su-ae and Eunhyeok both seem to be running more into each other and may share a common feeling that makes them understand each other while still seeing not being friends.

Operation: True love is a favorite. I forgot how hard it was to read these episodes but getting it I. One volume leaves you with enough to keep an open mind for the future volumes. I can’t wait to have a copy at home and to keep sharing my love for it with others !

A really fun introductory volume. Our heroine, Su-ae, finds a phone that communicates with her and shows how much love people will receive in their lifetime. She points the phone to herself, and we're suprised with the number that shows before we jump to the past for more context. The entirety of this volume takes place in that past. This reads like a teen-demographic k-drama or Degrassi-type show, and it's fun to watch the relationships between the characters unravel, especially because current day Su-ae gives several hints as to where things will lead throughout. Definitely would recommend for fans of series like True Beauty. The only downside was the abrupt ending to the volume! Thank you to Webtoon and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Read this on Webtoon years ago, so this was a fun re-read for me and can't wait to add this to my physical collection later on when it releases.
Protagonist finds out her best friend and boyfriend are not as they seem and she has a jelly pop flip phone that's judging her as she doesn't confront them and such. With the phone, she's able to see how much love one is destined to receive in her lifetime, but when viewing her own it shows zero. Will our protagonist ever receive love or is she destined to be alone forever? It's worth continuing to find the answers!

I received this arc of volume one of the webtoon Operation: True Love from NetGalley!

And I’m OBSESSED! The drama in this webcomic had me on edge to know what was going to happen next. I love Su-ae and everything about her character and silliness.

I’m obsessed with this concept of having a sentient flip phone and it using its power to peak into Su-ae’s love life as a teenager in high school. I also adore the fact that the flip phone is…PINK!! (we love a pink phone for real)

This webcomic is perfect for fans of romances and supernaturals put into one! I cannot wait to continue this webcomic!

I’m such a sucker for Webcomics like this one. The drama, the catching of feelings, the angst! For the first half I just wanted to smack Su-ae in the right direction and punch Minu. Then the betrayal!! But was it betrayal? I don’t know yet. It’s a mystery. But Eunhyeok? He’s the fix, and I’m hanging in for dear life for Su-ae to WAKE THE HECK UP.

Vol 1 doesn’t cover much regarding the magic Jellypop phone, but we know by the end that something is up with it and we are left wanting more of all of it! 🔥💗

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I honestly quite liked this book! It was short and fun. It was dramatic and I definitely want to read the next one. I think this first volume set up the story really well where I have a lot of questions about the phone and the messiness of the relationships that I want to see where the story goes. I also really enjoyed Su-ae’s character. I thought she was quite quirky but at the same time I do need her to realize who she has in her life and start cutting people out.

Overall, I really enjoyed this first volume and want to continue the rest!

I remember reading this on the Webtoon app, and I can finally hold a physical copy!

Su-ae is a teenager in high school, in a relationship with Minu. When she encounters a mysterious jellypop phone that shows you how many true loves you will have. For Su-ae its 0/0. What could this mean? Along with the true love tracker, she is getting texts. The art in this is beautiful, and slightly whimsical and as the series continues it only improves.

There is alot of funny moments along with angst, betrayals and if you can handle it a love triangle in this series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Webtoon for the arc.

Minu is a lousy, cheating boyfriend and the female lead (Su-Ae) is what one would refer to as a “migajera”, which is Spanish for someone who enjoys or accepts crumbs; in this case, it's crumbs of affection and love. Su-Ae is also very generous with Ra-im, refusing to kick her out of her house even when she found out her secret; in my opinion she is overly generous. The story ends on a cliffhanger, and a new character is introduced. Eunhyeok's feelings are still unclear, and the person on the other end of the Jellypop is unknown. I can’t wait for the next volume, because I have sooo many questions. The novel is very well written, and you can easily read it in a day.

Could you imagine being able to see how many people someone is going to be loved by—and finding out it says you’ll be loved by no one?

That’s exactly what happens to the main character in this book when she receives an old phone that shows people’s “love fate.” But that’s not all—someone creepy who gave her the phone keeps sending her unsettling messages.

Now she has to figure out not only who gave her the phone and who is behind the messages, but also why her supposed best friend seems to be getting close to her boyfriend.

This is an emotional story, and the art is very cute and well done.
