This book was recommended to me by someone who found out I was writing a humorous novel about the apocalypse. I think she described this as a "long lost cousin" to my book, which is pretty accurate. This book is funny, erudite and insightful. It delves intelligently into matters of religion, philosophy and quantum physics. It's also a bit too long, and the story sort of dissipates unsatisfactorily toward the end. Overall, highly recommended though.
Satan (aka, Tidwell) sends his minion Harold to earth in a prototype female body (Judith) designed by God (aka, Fred), not realizing that Judith is Fred's secret game piece. God is the gamekeeper, of course. God is put on trial for allowing a planet to exist full of misery while Harold (Judith) is trying to seduce a physicist to prevent him from discovering the unifying theory of the universe. "Science views the universe as the interplay of matter and energy. Religion looks at the exact same place and sees the battleground for good and evil. Irreconcilable differences? Not at all. Science describes the game board, religion the game."
