The Future After AI: Expectations for Artificial Intelligence as the New Operating System of Finance, Technology, Energy, Healthcare, Education, and Business

Rate this book

Artificial Intelligence is the bedrock of the future economy and the new global operating system that will quietly power every industry, process, and decision. In The Future After AI, top-ranked economist and world-renowned futurist Jason Schenker explores how AI will underpin finance, technology, energy, healthcare, education, and business. AI is transforming the global economy in ways as profound as the internet and computers once did. But just as we no longer marvel at using the internet, AI's impact is likely to become so deeply embedded in technology and society that we might soon stop talking about it at all.

Through data-driven analysis, forward-looking scenarios, and insights drawn from his work advising global companies, investment firms, and governments, Schenker reveals how AI will redefine productivity, reshape power structures, and become an invisible core part of the way the world works. The future will be AI-enabled, AI-integrated, and AI-invisible.

JASON SCHENKER prepares leaders for the future. He is the Chairman of The Futurist Institute and the President of Prestige Economics. Bloomberg News has ranked Mr. Schenker the #1 forecaster in the world in 35 different categories since 2011. He has delivered over 1,250 speeches and conducted over 1,000 television interviews. Mr. Schenker has written and edited 38 books on emerging technologies, finance, energy, supply chains, and the economy, including 16 #1 bestsellers on Amazon, such as Jobs for Robots, Cold War Two, The Future of Finance is Now, Computing Nouveau, and Futureproof Supply Chain.

Mr. Schenker is a LinkedIn Top Voice, and over 1.5 million people have taken his LinkedIn Learning courses. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an advisor to the U.S. State Department, and faculty at the Joint Special Operations University at U.S. Special Operations Command. He is the AI and Emerging Technologies advisor to the Seoul International Policy Advisory Group.

A Blueprint for an AI-Driven Era...

In The Future After AI, Jason Schenker pulls back the curtain on a revolution that's already humming beneath the surface of our everyday lives. As one of the world's leading economists, he traces AI's fingerprints across finance, tech, energy, healthcare, education, and business—an invisible force quietly rewriting the rules. Drawing on years spent counseling global leaders, Schenker weaves hard data with vivid what-ifs, painting a picture of how algorithms will amplify what we can do, shake up who wins and loses, and fundamentally change what it means to work. This isn't breathless hype—it's a clear-eyed map of what's coming.

What stays with you, though, is the urgency beneath it all: move now, or get left in the dust. Schenker's sharp, no-nonsense insights make AI feel less like some looming abstraction and more like something you can actually get your hands around—and use. Essential reading for anyone trying to find their footing in a world that's already shifting. Highly recommended.

AI will definitely change our lives the way electricity, the internet, and smartphones did—but faster, and with deeper consequences.

The first chapters focus on how individuals can use AI in everyday life. I enjoyed realizing that I’ve been applying most of those ideas for months already, and I’m also seeing friends (even people my age) using AI for all kinds of things—especially to improve photos and make them look more appealing.

The book also emphasizes security, and it’s an important reminder: anything you upload to an AI system can remain there, with no real guarantee it can be fully erased. That alone is worth keeping in mind.

The more unsettling sections explore broader societal implications: AI used to manipulate, AI in warfare, AI for blackmail, and other scenarios.

If you already work with AI, you may not find many brand-new ideas here. But if you’re just getting started, it’s short, accessible, and interesting.

Sensational and trendy is how we perceive AI. We are in front of the unknown, and some people are learning as fast as possible to understand what to do or how to integrate it into our daily lives. I really enjoyed this book because it is eye-opening to reality; it reflects on the future while also providing calm and anchoring us in the understanding that we have already lived through a similar time, when the internet first emerged. Nowadays, it integrates easily into our lives and is simply part of them. We will be integrating AI as well; now is the time to understand the transition and learn from it.

AI is here, and in many ways, it seems to be the ultimate disruptor. As it changes many different industries, it’s hard to imagine what the world will look like once it becomes fully integrated in so many niches and industries. However, there will come a time when AI is accepted as usual and taken for granted, just like so many other technology forms.

What will be the next phase of technology and human life? That is what this book discusses. The author is highly knowledgeable on the subject and paints a vivid picture. Anyone who is interested in what the future holds in store from a technological standpoint would do well to read this fascinating guidebook to what is likely coming.

A sharp, forward‑looking roadmap for an AI‑shaped world

The Future After AI delivers a clear, compelling tour through the industries being transformed by artificial intelligence, from finance and energy to healthcare, education, and beyond. What makes the book stand out is its ability to translate complex technological shifts into practical insights about how organizations and individuals can adapt. The author frames AI not as a distant threat but as a new operating system for modern life, offering both caution and optimism in equal measure. It’s an engaging, accessible read for anyone trying to understand where the next decade of innovation is heading.

This book made me realize that AI is not something for the future anymore, it’s already changing everyday work in ways I can see around me. The idea of AI as a new operating system really scared me because it explains clearly why companies can’t ignore it anymore.

The part about the skills gap felt very personal. It reminded me that staying comfortable can be risky, and that learning new things is no longer optional. I also liked that the author talks about ethical issues, like privacy and bias, instead of acting like AI is perfect.

I think the content is informative and thought-provoking. The focus on real-world impact across multiple industries helps put the future into perspective and encourages a broader way of thinking about change and adaptation.

A reading that clarifies

It's a reality that every day, individuals, businesses, and the world in general have greater access to AI, and a series of beliefs, values, etc., have formed around it—some true, others not so much.
This book helps us understand, in a clear and concise way, the true scope of AI, clearing up many doubts about it and confirming what was already known.
It's a book that definitely clarifies and changes beliefs.

Loved this book!

Essentially this book will give you an overview of how Artificial Intelligence will disrupt all industry sectors. There are few charts and technical jargon used here which could make this a challenging read for those less familiar with these topics, but throughout the text you'll find plenty of practical examples regarding jobs, businesses, and what the future holds for us all. The tone of the book is more educational than sensationalistic in nature.

When AI Stops Being Innovative

In my view, this book does not talk about a far away future, but about something we are already living every day without noticing it very much. The book also made me think that AI does not arrive with noise, it comes slowly, getting into everything little by little. I ended up with the feeling that we are already inside the change, even if we do not say it like that.

Very thought-provoking insights

There is a lot of information and insight in this book that has really got me thinking about how AI will be perceived in the near future. I thought most about how AI is going to change healthcare. I could really trust the information being presented by the author because of his extensive experience in advising companies and governments on things like productivity. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out with AI.

Genius of prediction

Knowing Shekner's history, I don't think this book comes as a surprise, but if you look at it in depth, it's really a masterpiece in that it truly warns us of what is to come in development and technology, how we will become so intrinsically linked to AI that it will become part of our simplest and even most imperceptible daily lives.

Interesting read

I have asked myself many times how AI will change society in the future. I would say that this book is not a guess, but an accurate prediction of it. It has data driven analysis by a top ranked economist on how AI will change our future. It is clear, organized, and focused on implications.

I liked reading The Future After AI because it talks about how AI can change work, health, and daily life. The ideas are big, but the writing is clear and easy to follow. I read it during my morning coffee, and it made me think about how much technology is already around me. Some parts felt hopeful, not scary. This book helped me feel more curious and calmer about the future.
