Ricochet #2

Friendly Fire

Rate this book
Rick "Ricochet" Brennan served eight years as an elite Marine special ops Force Recon soldier. After an injury, and the terrible memories from that night, he retires and goes to work for his former Command Officer, Howard "Mack" McEvoy, at his training center in Atlanta.

Sanctum MMA appears on the surface to be a normal gym, training elite fighters to be the best. Except each trainer, hand-picked by Mack, possesses a special background that allows Mack to run one of the best-kept secrets in the country.

When twenty-three year old Quinn Wallace finally escapes her abusive husband, she turns to her father’s old Marine Corps buddy, Mack, for help. Broken and skittish, Quinn finds herself surrounded by large, intimidating men— men who could easily overpower her. She avoids them the best she can, but when Rick turns out to be more than just a rough fighter with bruised knuckles, she finds herself wondering if she can allow herself to trust again.

Ricochet is a full-length novel to be released as three parts.

Heather C. Leigh is the author of the Amazon best selling Famous series. She likes to write about the 'dark' side of fame. The part that the public doesn't get to see, how difficult it is to live in a fishbowl and how that affects relationships.

Heather was born and raised in New England and after spending 15 years in Atlanta, GA, currently lives north of Houston, TX with her husband, 2 kids, and French Bulldog, Shelby.

Heather loves the Red Sox, the Patriots, and anything chocolate (but not white chocolate, everyone knows it's not real chocolate so it doesn't count) and has left explicit instructions in her will to have her ashes snuck into Fenway Park and sneakily sprinkled all over while her family enjoys beer, hot dogs, and a wicked good time.

My favorite authors are Dan Wells, Ken Follett, and Stephen King.

Happy reading!

I was super eager to begin Friendly Fire, the second part of this full length story, especially having just experienced the cliff-hanger and actions of one of the protagonists!

Friendly Fire witnesses Quinn needing to adjust and move forward with her life, creating order and cohesion for herself. This is where I began to lose sympathy for the heroine. I understood her motivation in part but she frustrated me with her silence and the time that passed on by.

Rick continued to be the sexy, lovely hero that I met in Locked and Loaded. We learn more about his history, explore the reasons why and experience him facing into his issues. I didn’t totally understand the undercover secret mercenary work that Rick and his colleges are involved with, but I don’t think I needed to for the feel of this story.

There are a few lulls in the prose where, for me, the story doesn't really develop in terms of story but then the final stages change all of that. The climax and potentially pivotal moment of this story comes at the end of this part.... Overall Ricochet #2 Friendly Fire is a second enjoyable read in this three part novel.

As I was reading this, I really feel this shouldn’t have worked but lo and behold, it did. There was a whole lot of talk about emotions and at times, the angst was bordering on heavy-handed but it totally worked. For the most part, it felt like it was all about exploring their respective feelings for each other. Quinn continuing to do her best to move forward and not mess whatever it is she had with Rick, if she was lucky. I did want to wring her neck at certain times but I get it. I understood why she was struggling the way she was. And Rick was doing his best to be more comfortable about his feelings for Quinn, it was just endearing to see.

There was very little action except near the end and if you count the scenes with Rick and his buddies doing their MMA and covert operative stuff. I did enjoy those parts. It satisfied the 12-yr old boy in me, with the mention of St. Pierre LOL And all that talk about secret ops reminds me of the action/suspense film I’ve enjoyed in the past.

If the last part of the 1st book felt off for me, the last part here completely worked for me, when the real action started happening. The intense pull between these 2 was magnetic. And I knew with what scene that sh!t was about to go down. And down it went, leaving the readers with 1 big cliffie of an ending.

Gah!!!

Oh Heather, Heather, that's how you wanted to play, eh? LOL Needless to say, I moved on to book 3 stat!

Ricochet: Locked and Loaded (Ricochet, #1) ended with a cliffy, where Quinn left Rick in bed, after a mind blowing night of passion, in fear and also deciding to handle her past before she can have a present and future.

Quinn is taking her life back. Clearing out her father’s estate and making chances in her life, Quinn is more than ready to file for divorce and to try and make a life she always wanted. Putting all of her fears and her past behind her, Quinn moves forward with a new attitude. Her first order of business is to repair the broken friendship between Rick and herself.

Still hurt over Quinn’s betrayal, Rick decides to treat her as the asshole player he’s nicknamed for. Emotionless and only useful for a good time.

As they both attempt to mend the broken friendship, Rick is still in anguish and has an emotional and mental battle warring. Should he easily forgive Quinn and allow another woman to hurt him, or should he give in and try again? Quinn wants nothing more than to be with Rick, He has shown her an intensity that she has never encountered before, the feel of normalcy, yet she is fearful of accepting his pity over her abusive past with her husband.

Friendly Fire is all about the decisions that both characters war with on their path to forgiveness.

On to book 3.

This is the second novella in a series of three. They are all now available, so no need to panic about having to wait! You do need to read Locked and Loaded first.

We now witness what time apart does to our leads, and the dual POV fills in any gaps. It is good to get all that angst out ... I think! Quinn did make me feel that maybe I wasn't quite as paranoid about relationships as I clearly could be! And pretty much, just like them a conversation here and there could clear up a lot of misunderstandings - makes for good reading though, and then drama ... thank goodness I have the final installment to hand. (ps MMA ex military men are HOT, even when being cold!)

I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. Quinn ran after the night she spent with Rick. She decided that she needed to fix her past before she could have a future, preferably with Rick. While she was gone, she was getting her fathers affairs in order and to sell his cabin. After six weeks away and she returns back to work, Rick ignores her. She knows he is hurting and she hopes she can repair the friendship if not more. When they finally talk and things become heated, they can't resist the electricity flowing between them. When she gets a call from the lawyers office about a paper that wasn't signed to finish the divorce paperwork, she doesn't think anything about it. She will see Rick after she meets the lawyer and hopefully they can continue things. When she doesn't call Rick and he begins to panic, he goes to Mara and Clint's house and he is frantic. Wanting to know where she is. When Mara doesn't know and he tells her that she went to the lawyers office, Mara fears the worst. When they finally find the lawyers office and Mack's truck, Quinn's purse and belongings are there but she isn't. Then Rick sees something on the ground, he prays it's not what he thinks it is. But he knows it is her blood. And Mara says that it was Travis, Quinn's soon to be ex-husband and this is a shocker for Rick but he must find her. This ending will have you in tears and I am loving this series and starting book 3 as soon as I post this review.

Ricochet: Friendly Fire is the second of a three part serial by Heather C. Leigh which tells the story of Rick, a former marine turned fighter and Quinn, who has run away from an abusive marriage. The book immediately picks up where the first leaves off. After having made love, Quinn has left Rick asleep in her bed and flees to her deceased father’s home to sort out her feelings and decides that if she is ever going to be able to let anyone in, she has to take the next step to free herself which is to file for divorce. She is terrified of Travis finding her but if she is ever going to have a life with Rick, this is the only way. But when he finally finds her, will Quinn ever be safe?

Again, another great part to the series. Rick and Quinn relationship grows and they begin learning more about each other. I’m totally in love with several of Rick’s marine buddies. I was a little bothered at first that Rick and Quinn move to being in love fairly quickly but it’s a serial and I did like their relationship.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

I was so mad at Quinn at the end of Locked and Loaded. She left? How could she leave? I love the path Ms. Leigh took me on with this one. Quinn is a woman with a tortured past, how can she move on without cleaning that past up? I just wanted to hug Rick through most of this.

Its a quick read, that is my only negative about the read. I could read about these characters forever, I enjoyed it that much. I must be on a mercenary/military kick lately and this fit into that category perfectly.

I need to know what happens next!! Rick and Quinn have to get their HEA!

I couldn't wait to read what happened after part one... Like literally had to start reading it even if it was already past bedtime.

Once again, another super thrilling installment. The suspense is great while the sexual tension is out of this world. And again, once they finally get over their stubbornness, they are unbelievably hot.

I have to say the characters were very well written, they were realistic and relatable. They didn't make crazy decisions, but ones that people in their situations would make. It was nice to be sucked into the book and barely able to put it down until I'd finished it. (Hey, we all need to eat and sleep, right?)

And another mega cliffy... So of course, I had to get the next one...

Job well done. So far, the Ricochet trilogy has definitely kept my attention. Rick and Quinn are stumbling their way through unchartered territory and though at times, their choices frustrated me, overall, I’m a fan of the series.
When Quinn disappeared, she broke Rick. This careless playboy wanted to change, to embark on a relationship and love, only to have that thrown back in his face. I was pretty pissed at Quinn for not even leaving a freaking note. Then staying away for three months. So, it came as no shock to me when he gave her the cold shoulder upon her return. I do think he should have given her the opportunity to explain, not that he had to give her a second chance, but at least he might be able to get past the hurt and anger.
Rick is one of my favorite types of heroes. He manly and alpha, a soldier, a fighter, and a protector. But on the flip side, the right woman brings out his softer side, opens him up to feelings he didn’t believe in. The best part of this time of protagonist is that he doesn’t fight the new emotions, rather he considers them and decides to see where they lead. That’s why Quinn’s disappearing act was such a disaster. She didn’t stop to consider the damage she was doing to him.
Quinn’s past is certainly a good reason for a lot of her behavior. Her life is a messed up web and she is caught trying to figure out how to get out of the strings pulling her in every direction. Dealing with her Dad’s stuff, trying to divorce Travis and keep under the radar, and dealing with her budding relationship to Rick.
When she finally returns, it was a little ridiculous to me that she was surprised by Rick’s attitude. Needing to deal with all of her other crap before diving into a relationship with Rick is understandable, but she completely overlooks the fact that sometimes those things are better addressed with someone at your side who supports and loves you. Quinn is a fighter, she’s resourceful, smart, and strong. On the other hand, she is scared and she lets is overrule logic at times.
These two are finding their way back to each other but it seems a question as to whether they will be successful.
Be prepared for a killer cliffhanger! You’ll want to jump right into the next installment to find out what happens next. I’m anxious to see these two get their HEA, but I will be sorry to see them go.

Right, picking up six weeks after the end of book one, we are thrown straight into the shit storm that is Quinn’s life, having left Rick to try and deal with her past she is ready to return to Rick and back to work.
She wants to pick things up with Rick but she has no idea how he will be when she sees him again. Did she get the wrong impression of what was going on when the two of them were together?
If only she knew!
Rick was like a man possessed while she was away – he was completely demented!
He had no idea why she left and that is all on her, it was unfair of her to leave him like that but I have to say I kind of liked the way he went all sort of nuts – it gave him more credence in my book – this tough guy practically fell apart not knowing what was going on – it affected him in a way I hadn’t anticipated for a man in his position and with his reputation but it helped me to get a handle on the whole relationship.
But when it is Rick’s turn to leave Quinn gets a dose of her own medicine – because she finds out just how painful it is to be without him.
Worse is to come when she learns that Quinn has been injured and hasn’t returned to her to convalesce – he has gone to his friend Dane. They are both unsure as to the true status of their relationship and neither of them is sure as to what steps to take in order to get what they have back on track. They need help and it arrives in the wise words of Mara – pointing out the glaringly obvious and helping them to see that they have the bones of a decent relationship they just need to talk to each other.
But as expected it is not all plain sailing – because just as things are starting to even out – Quinn leaves to meet with her lawyer. All hell breaks loose and Rick goes into search mode – heading out to find his woman, unfortunately all he finds is her empty truck and her blood!
This was a better read than the first instalment and I think the story is beginning to gather pace. I am actually looking forward to the next book.

Friendly Fire is the second book in the Richochet Series. The first book is Locked and Loaded. I would give this book a 4 stars and would recommend to others. This is not a standalone you must read the series in order. This book will pick up right where Locked and Loaded left us and if y'all have read the first one you know it ended with Quinn disappearing on her own will.. but this book will also end in a cliffy.... Each book is a short read but is packed full and you won't want to put it down. Hopefully Divas you will love this series as much as I have and you will be wanting book 3 Extraction Point right after your done because this cliffy will leave ya hanging big time!

Rick and Quinn are finally reunited after a few month's and there is tension in the air. Quinn is trying to get her life under control after hiding from her crazy as sin husband and she also is trying to come to terms with trying not to love Rick. When Rick see's Quinn for the first time he will be angry and hurt and doesn't know how to deal with those feelings because he has never felt them for any other woman before or had a broken heart, but when he takes a mission that will leave him wounded will Quinn finally realize that she should give her heart away finally? But will Rick accept it after all she has put him through? When they finally find there way to each other a twist will tear them apart again.....

What happens with the past that Quinn is trying to repair comes back with a bang?

Go get this series right away you will not be disappointed what so ever. This series is an intense read and you will devour it. I can't wait to read Extraction Point and see if Quinn and Rick finally get there HEA.

OMG! Part two picks up where part one left off. Quinn returns to Atlanta and to Rick. She is unsure of how to deal with everything and she is torn. She misses Rick-she has just had to deal with a loss in her life. Rick has been completely mental while she was gone, unable to function. He almost was pulled off from the field due to how he was acting. Quinn returns and they dance around each other trying to figure out where they stand in each other’s lives.

This time, Rick has to leave due to work. Quinn is inconsolable. She doesn’t know how to cope. She ends up finding out he was hurt and is convalescing at his friend, Dane’s home. Quinn is unsure how to get them back together as is Rick. They want to be back together but not sure how. With the help of Mara, they get that help and they slowly work toward being back together.
Quinn tells Rick she has to meet with the lawyer. When she doesn’t return, Rick goes insane and goes to Clint and Mara’s. Berserk, Rick goes looking for Quinn. He , along with Clint and Mara find Quinn’s truck without her, with her purse and its contents scattered and on the ground, there is a dark stain—which is Quinn’s blood. But no Quinn.

Fantastic Read, which keeps the reader entertained, with the emotional pulls , the mystery and the sudden twist in the end leaving you to wonder what happened and where is Quinn. I am soo needing to know everything. Love how the author makes you feel the characters’ emotions. Cant wait for Ricochet Part 3.

The start of Ricochet: Friendly Fire pretty much starts off where the first part left off with the cliffhanger. Except for a month later, where we find Quinn trying to finish up her affairs with her fathers house.

I really felt like for that month that Quinn had been gone that she really seemed to have a change. She seemed a little different. A little stronger and a little more independent. She seemed to find herself once again.

It was nice to see her really wanting to give Rick a chance. I mean because who wouldn't love Rick?!?!? But it was nice to watch her, hmmmm what's the word I'm looking for? Maybe come into herself and really show Rick she really did care about him.

It was also nice to see her open up and be friendly with the other guys.

Oh gosh what can I say about Rick in this second part. I don't want to say he was a jerk. But he kind of was to Quinn. He avoided her, wouldn't talk to her, and wouldn't let her explain to him. But than he would turn around and have his buddies ask Quinn how she was doing. So you could tell he still cared about her even though he acted differently. Also he's keeping the secret of what really happened to him from her.

I enjoyed this second part and of course enjoyed Quinn and Rick again. Once again this one ends on a cliffhanger.

I'm giving this part another 4 Out of 5 Stars.

In Friendly Fire we find Quinn taking those last steps to take back her life. She's determined to put her past behind her and recognizes that the only way she can ever move on and start a new life is by completely putting her past behind her. However, she has not confided in Rick as to what her past entails and is foolish enough to think that she can do it on her own. Grrr!

Needless to say that Rick doesn't take Quinn's actions lightly. He's hurt, confused and acting without thinking. His head is not where it should be and he gets hurt on a mission. Feeling betrayed and not understanding what the hell is happening, Rick keeps his distance from Quinn on her return to town but this time around Quinn is not to be deterred and confronts him. But just as things are looking up, everything comes crashing down on Rick and Quinn's world.

This installment was an interesting mix of brooding alpha male, confused emotions and a whole lot of miscommunication. Truly, I was over the drama and ready to throttle them both! But...I was already invested in the story and wanting to see what the future had in store for these two so I kept on reading. It helped that Rick and Quinn's interactions were brought to the page and not glossed over like in the previous installment. There weren't many of them, but the ones that took place were honest, intense and showcased their connection. Finally!

Of course, this one ended in another cliffhanger and a mighty one at that!

Friendly Fire starts six weeks after Locked & Loaded ended. After being away from everyone Quinn is ready to go back to work and her new life. She isn't sure how Rick will react when he sees her again. He might have the nickname Ricochet but she felt more than just sex with him. Did he feel the same or was he glad she left?

Rick has been a mess. He doesn't know why Quinn left or if she was coming back so when he sees her again he doesn't know what to do. He is as confused on the inside as she looks on the outside. He shouldn't want her after what she did but he can't help it.

They both don't know where they stand with one another. Their communication is off and not sure how to get it back on. Can they be friends again? Will it turn into more?

I thought this part was slower but it needed to be so they can work out their issues. Quinn wants to have her past in the past before moving on with Rick. But will he still be there? Rick knows Quinn is hiding something but doesn't want to push it. And Quinn knows Rick is hiding things too.

Secrets have a way of coming out...I can't wait to find out what's next.

Quotes:

Rick wanted this one to stick.

His secret job, her secret past… it was frustrating as hell.

Run from my dad, run from Travis, run from Rick, run from my life… I need a new pair of Nikes if this is going to be my way of dealing with things.

The Angst and Secrets are heavy in this book. I was ripping my hair out since Quinn and Rick would tip toe around each other and not talk. I was upset that Quinn up and left Rick at the end of Locked and Loaded. But I also liked that Rick got a taste of his own medicine.

The heat and love is prominent through out Quinn and Ricks interactions, but they are so confused by the others secrets (Quinn being MIA for 6 weeks and Rick having a new bullet wound) they don't see it until Quinn goes missing. Yes people, this book ends on a Cliffy. Said cliffy does want you to read the next book immediately to see what happens and if Quinn's Ex is involved. ::Queue dramatic music::

Richochet: Friendly Fire is the second book in the Ricochet series by Heather C. Leigh. This book cannot be read as a stand alone, the first book in the series must be read.

This second installment was exactly as I predicted. It was an intense delivery of Rick and Quinn's relationship. It also built up to the suspenseful event that happens at the end. It gives the reader an idea of who Rick and Quinn are. They both have secrets. They both are harboring scars from the past. They have finally given into their attraction, but can they let go of their secrets? Can they move forward? Neither one is ready to admit their true feelings and it could cost not only their love, but possibly their lives.

This installment in the Ricochet series kept me enthralled. I loved the pacing, the chemistry between the characters, and the build up of suspense. It ended on the perfect cliffhanger that will leave readers begging for more.

The third book will be out on April 12, 2015. I am ready!

Ricochet: Friendly Fire
Ricochet Series Part 2
by Heather C. Leigh

Is it possible to trust again, when you have burned so terribly by love in the past?

I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rick “Ricochet” Brennan was always a love them and leave them kind of man. That was until he met Quinn. Quinn is different than any other woman he has ever been with. He wants more with her, but after their first romantic encounter, she disappears. He is left believing that she meant more to him, than he did to her. After several weeks with no word from her, Quinn returns. He is angry and refuses to talk to her or acknowledge her.

Quinn had obligations that she needed to see to, in order to fully commit to the new life and new identity that she was trying to build. She felt that she could not be with Rick while holding onto that baggage, but fear caused her to flea with no explanation, and that may have cost her a relationship with a good man.

This was a worthy follow up to book 1. It is again a blend of romance and adventure. It is well written and both lead characters are likable. I really am enjoying this series. It is adventurous, romantic, and a great read!

Oh Heather, You left me hanging at the end of the first part of Rick’s story and you picked it right up where you left off.

Rick is hurt and I cannot blame him. Being left, in bed, by someone you are finally willing to risk falling in love with would hurt anyone. I loved that he pouted, was crabby, ignored Quinn when she finally returned, and was just ornery. That all proved to me the strength of the feelings he has for her. Even with all his hurt, he cannot put off being with her. It is what he wants and he isn’t very good about not getting what he wants.

Quinn, while needing to heal, has left Rick. I appreciated that she needed to settle her history before she could move forward and find a happy ever after. I understand why she felt she couldn’t tell Rick about her past, yet I wish she had opened up to him. Rick would have understood and protected her, gave her support, and just been there for her.

Again, Heather left me with a cliffhanger. What a cliffhanger it is. This is a great series, a series that has pulled me in and won’t let me forget Rick and Quinn.

I am kicking myself for not reading the Ricochet trilogy earlier. I turned down the first offer for an arc. I said yes this time to all three parts. I am so glad I did. I enjoyed the books so much. For part two to make sense you need to read Part One, Locked and Loaded. Quinn returns to Atlanta and doesn't know how to deal with Rick. Rick has been a basket case with her gone. He was nearly pulled from the field. He doesn't know how to handle Quinn. They dance around each other. This time it is Rick that disappears. It is Quinn's turn to bounce off the walls. She finally discovers that Rick is at Dane's recuperating. They want each other, but our clueless how to get the the slow dance. A dinner at Mara's helps get them together. When Quinn doesn't return from a meeting with the lawyer, Rick knows something is up. Frantic for answers, he finds her truck abandoned, her purse inside and the seat covered in blood. Mara thinks she knows who did it. Time for the boys to do what the boys do best--search and rescue. The story continues in Part Three, Extraction Point.

Five Stars! A Must read!

This is the second book in the Ricochet series and you will for sure want to start with the first book Locked and Loaded. I don't like to give spoilers or much of the plot away but I will tell you this one starts with Quinn returning to Atlanta. Her and Rick are unsure of how to act and what to say to each other because of the way Quinn left. One of the things I love about this series is the Author really makes you feel and understand all the emotions that are going on. It pulls you in and captivates you in a way that makes you not want to put the book down. Than just when you start to get comfortable with the story line something dramatic and life changing happens and the book ends. I guarantee once you read book two there is no way you will not want to read book three. You will desperately want to continue on and find out what happens with Quinn and Rick.

This is a must read in my opinion and I promise once you start you won't be disappointed!

Rick and Quinn continue to try to find their way to each other in this installment. Quinn realizes that she hurt Rick by going away unannounced and being gone for 6 weeks. Rick is keeping his own secret and has to avoid Quinn so she doesn't question his injury or how it happened. After much dancing around each other, ignoring each other and overall childishness on both of their parts, they find themselves on the cusp of getting their acts together. The ending leaves you hanging and in desperate need of finding out what has happened. How Quinn was not suspicious of the phone call scheduling an unexpected meeting on a Sunday was a bit much for me to comprehend, especially in light of her fear of Travis. Guess I'll have to wait to see what happens.

Ricochet: Friendly Fire starts off 6 weeks after book 1 ended. Quinn comes back and had no idea where things with she and Rick stand. She's afraid to see him. Rick is a mess. He can't concentrate on missions, all he can think about is Quinn and where she is and why she left. I love dual POV. I love knowing with Rick and Quinn are thinking! This book has more suspense and more heat. I can't give away too many spoilers, but this cliffhanger is crazy! I gasped at the end and can't wait to devour book 3!

This is book two in a series and book one must be read first. So in this book we see much more of Quinn and Rick together and his struggle with and acceptance of his feelings towards Quinn, we also see Quinn really being to trust herself and Rick and the feelings she has for him. Quinn is keeping a huge secret from Rick and the rest of the guys and I just wanted her to be honest with all of them but we didn't see that happen. The ending has a huge cliffhanger and I was left dying to know what Rick was gonna do now that he knew the truth. The storyline kept me hooked, I had to know how everything was going to play out!

Thanks Wicked Reads for a free book to read and review.

This is a three part serial that needs to be read in order to get the most enjoyment. I loved part two. In the last book, Quinn decides that she has to get some of the stuff from her past taken care of so that Rick can be her future. So she takes a six week hiatus to get certain things in order but didn't let Rick know any of this. His nickname Ricochet leads her to believe that he just leaves one girls bed to go to another. Both are certainly starting to see something happening between them which makes part two so good. Overall entertainment is four stars.

Follow Quinn as she heads back to Atlanta after taking care of her fathers estate. What happens she Rick finds out she left in the first place? Will he care or not? What happens when he takes on assignment after assignment to make the time without Quinn go by? What happens when he gets confronted by his boss about the amount of work he's doing? What happens when Quinn does show back up? Will Rick even listen to her explanation on why she was gone in the first place, or will he move on? What happens when Quinn goes missing? Who did it? Find out in part 2 of this series!

I received this for an honest review. As with the first one I was pulled in to this story and these characters. Quinn ran away from Rick and her feelings and she has decided to come back and fight for her man (SWOON)..

I really enjoyed this section of the story because it really pulled their story more together and made Quinn work for what she wanted.

CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!
