Yeah, I fucking devoured this book. ARE YOU SURPRISED?? I’m having a teeny tiny spiral at the moment hehehe everything’s fine. Full review below as promised (now that I’ve calmed down a little🙃)
The way I made sure I picked this book up the second it dropped. I was not fucking playing. I ran so fast back to my baby Kane I almost twisted an ankle. And somehow, we dialed him up even more in book two. He’s more obsessed, his mouth is filthier, he’s flirty and swoony, and we get to see another side of him that’s low-key such a lover boy. I was gobbling it up, the total package.
We still get that fire-on-fire chemistry between him and Jess. She’s got those walls all the way up, fighting tooth and nail not to fall for this man, pushing him away every chance she gets. But one thing about Kane? He is not fucking hearing it. My favorite energy will always be that “you’re mine and I genuinely do not give a fuck what you think about it” vibe.
This book was addicting. I don’t know what the hell was in these pages, but I could not devour it fast enough. I inhaled everything, the secret society, the relationship development, the side characters there truly was not a dull moment. I am so intrigued by where this world is expanding because I know we’re just getting started.
Every single Kane-and-Jess scene was electrically charged. This is exactly the type of writing I eat up. I love the fight for dominance, I love their dynamic, I love the back-and-forth, and we got so much more of them together in this book. The lake scene? One of my absolute favorites. I fell in love with Kane on a whole new level, and I was thrilled that Jess didn’t lose her fire or her sass, she was giving mega brag and I love when Kane punishes her for being bratty 🤭 these two could not get enough of each other and I was eating it up
“I wanted to see your 🐱 drip with my cum,” he says, breathless, “but that bratty mouth…” He shakes his head, laughing quietly. “It needed a good fucking.”🫠🫠🫠🫠
I basically highlighted the whole book again guys, I can not be stopped.
While this book is fun and smutty and full of 10/10 banter, There is still such a gutwrenching emotional side to it that had me reading through my fingers. I was literally hiding at one point and my heart was literally breaking. One thing about Harleigh is she’s always gonna deliver on every aspect not just the spice.
That final scene had me on the edge of my seat. I was literally holding my breath. I thought I was going to pass out. And the fact that I now have to wait again for the next book? I may or may not have punched the air a few times when I finished.
This book has such a solid mix of all my favorite things. It’s the perfect recipe for a six-star series, and I will forever be screaming about it from the rooftops, so prepare to be sick of me. This series is so me-coded it’s actually embarrassing…..

I feel like Kane is not actually trying to get out of his circumstances (he had plenty of opportunities to kill off the people threatening them and didn’t, but is supposedly a ruthless enforcer 😒) and some of the things he says and does make me feel like he doesn’t actually love Jessica. I don’t think I’ll read the next installment, kinda just want to forget I ever read this book.
Safety: mmc forced to be with ow without protection multiple times (on page). He also makes some… interesting choices regarding this. (I typically like mmc’s that would rather cut their D off before ever touching another woman, regardless of circumstances. He has had unprotected sex with this woman and afterwards has unprotected sex with the FMC. He doesn’t tell the FMC, but claims to have been “tested”… but all std’s don’t show up within a handful of days. This really didn’t vibe with me at all.)
No virgins.

This book had me in such a chokehold. There is now more at stake when it comes to Kane’s relationship with Jessica- his father, the Society, her brother. Everyone is trying to stand in his way from keeping his girl.
Kane is such a layered MMC and you can see how he’s starting to let himself open up. I am soooo appreciating his character development. He is scrumptious!
Jessica is such a relatable FMC. I feel for her on so many levels and I just want to hug her and tell her everything will be ok. I seriously love her.
While reading i kept feeling like i was getting gut punched over and over again. 😖 please Harleigh, don’t keep me waiting long for book 3!!!!

Awww… Harleigh! You did it again. Another Cliffy! Grrrrr.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between Kane and Jessica—especially how honest they eventually were about their feelings. At the same time, a part of me really wanted to lock them in a room and force them to talk about everything, not just… do what they do. Which, let’s be honest, was hot as hell. No denying that.
I also really enjoyed the friends and family and how supportive they are—it added so much warmth to the story.

This book hurt my soul.. like how much more is Kane going to endure? That boy is getting assaulted over and over again.
I love everything Harleigh writes. She's one of the few authors that really manages to capture the whole "this shouldn't be happening" thing with her writing. And sometimes i hate how good she is at that. Like i felt helpless y'all. I felt helpless in the worst way, because I watched Kane get manipulated, threatened, trapped, used and assaulted multiple times and there was literally nothing i could do about it.
And that's unbearable. And the cruelest part is that he's doing everything to protect Jessica, knowing FULL WELL she'll hate him for what it looks like. Like it hurts watching him sacrifice himself.
And the way that ending left me speechless and sad AGAIN while book 3 is not out yet?? Hello?? Is Harleigh listening?? Do you me TO SUFFER woman?
SOMEBODY SAVE THIS MAN BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND.

I am obsessed with that mouth of his 🫠
But what really gets me is how obsessed he is with Jessica's bratty side. He doesn't just tolerate it… He thrives on it, and that dynamic is everything!! Their tension, banter, and the push & pull had me glued to the page! I was happy to see we got a little less push & pull in this book but it was still there on Jessica’s side lol
That ending though???
I have my theory and I don't care what anyone says! Nothing will change my mind. Harleigh absolutely knew what she was doing there, and I'm still thinking about it.
Also, can we talk about the side characters? Every single one of them has me intrigued and desperate for their own book. Every. Single. One. (Well, except Chris… right now he's just pissing me off lol)

Kane and Jessica, I love them. Period. They are everything and they desperately need each other. Every single spicy scene with them was perfection.
But Harleigh sure knows how to write tortured heartbreak. They never stood a chance. My heart actually hurts for Kane. Then you have Jessica's torment. Ugh! I loved the pain. I couldn't put this down.

This is book 2 (out of 3?) of Jessica & Kane’s story.
I loved Kane’s obsession with her and how fast and deep he fell. It was very easy for me to believe she was special to him.
Jessica has so much on her shoulders and has to worry about everyone. So when Kane took on the role of being the one who takes care of her, I was so happy.
Like, one morning he went to a coffee shop on the other side of the city because he wanted her to have her favourite coffee for breakfast. Me and Jessica were really touched by that.🥹
And in return, she makes him smile and feel alive again. She brings his soft side back to life.
"She’s quickly becoming my peace. When I’m with her, everything else is silent. All the noise… the bullshit… the crap with my dad. It all fades when she’s near. I feel calm."
The sex was veryyy good, especially the power play scenes. Give me more! Though I was constantly worried about protection (considering the circumstances), but I guess I need to learn that STDs don’t exist in romance 😂
There is a specific plot line that is almost the same as in a story I read too recently. And I felt horrible both times.
I could have guessed where this was going, but I didn’t. Partly, that’s why it hit me so hard. But that’s only my experience. My point is: there are some dark (and darker) themes, and you might want to check the content warnings before going into this story.

Jessica just can't help but push back against Kane at every chance. I especially love when Jessica thinks she has the upper hand 🤭
i love Cash, the instinctive need to protect his brother warmed my heart, although his methods were questionable 🤭
we get a deeper insight into Kane with this book, and much like how Jessica's walls are coming down, so too is Kane's 🥺 he and his twin may have been raised in privilege but that doesn't mean that their life is easy .. it's far from it!
under his father's manipulation and narcissism- has Kane reached breaking point?
'Dark Lanes' is a stellar story of rich vs poor. Harleigh has successfully delivered a story that emphasises that money and society doesn't mean happiness, but rather loneliness and a craving of love and affection, especially when noone approves of your relationship.
Kane makes selfless decisions, he doesn't brag about his wealth for gratification, he truly has become one of my favourite characters.

I read the entire book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down and I am feral for book 3. If you loved book 1, book 2 is only going to make you fall for them more.

First read of the year and it was such a banger! Firstly I wanna thank Harleigh Beck for giving me a chance to ARC read this book! I’m so crazy for Jessica and Kane it’s no joke this book was like drugs I’m pretty sure it’s laced with drugs cause the way I devoured this is beyond me! This book started right after where Fatal Collisions ended we got to know more about them
KANE RAVENCOURT omg this man I don’t even know where to begin this man is so down bad for his girl
Head over heels is an understatement cause he’s so obsessed and I love the fact he falls first and very hard
I loved that this book explored more about Kane’s characters I love that he shows emotions and vulnerability even tho he’s a grumpy man
Him paying for Jessica’s mom’s hospital bills
Buying her favourite coffee and cooking for her omg he’s that MAN and also gives her multiple orgasms really couldn’t ask for a better man
I hate this father omgg please I hate that man so much
And that woman Beverley ewww her
The things these two do to Kane is so disgusting and sad I wish he can escape it pls he needs to
Also the last scene I know he’s doing it to protect Jessica but damn it hurt so bad

The second guessing from both is not going to keep them safe from Kane’s father, Jessica's brother, or the masses on both sides saying it will never work. No more disappearing for days. No more ignoring calls or texts. No more running away. Be in your feels so you can be together.
The angst in this story, along with the forbidden love, was wonderful. When we spend the day by the lake with Jessica and Kane, my heart was so happy. As someone who loves beach trips any time of the year, my body reacted to that scene. My breath hitched when the cold water slapped their skin. It was written so well.
For me, that is about all the good there is for me. Kanye’s family is part of some Skulls shit that we are left in the dark about, yet are supposed to feel bad for him. While Jessica is pretending that her brother is not doing some shady business, even if it keeps her and her sister in school and their mom taken care of. Mostley. It is all talked about so much that it takes the focus away from Jessica and Kane.
What was up with that ridiculous chapter where Kane picks Jessica up after class for the day? Jessica and Rain having a non verbal conversation? That was too much. None of it made me think they were actual friends, but girls forced together due to circumstance. It also lasted too long. Good fucking lord. Just saying the damn thing. We haven’t even started on their banter with each other. It went on forever! You would think these girls were toddlers fighting over a stuffed unicorn. By the end of the chapter it didn’t matter to me if she went with Kane to get some or with her sister and friend to do hot girl shit. Just fucking make a choice already so we can move on from this stupidity.
Then, another cliffhanger. Seriously? This will be a multi book series that really doesn’t need to be. The first book was so short we didn’t get much. This book, the second book, centered too much on a secret society that Kane keeps forgetting he is a member of. Now we all must wait for book three? Why? Do we need to his to be drawn out into a drawn out set of books? Did we need it to be so much side story? Now the worry is will this drag for most of book three before speeding through the ending leaving me with more questions than answers. Please let it be an ending worth the wait.

Midnight Chase - Harleigh Beck ARC Review
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Immediate Five Stars!
First of all, a huge thank you to Harleigh and her team for the ARC copy. Harleigh Beck has been one of my favorite authors ever since I read her Obsession and Sins of the Fallen series (which I finished in two days). With this duet, she's definitely one of my one click authors. From now on, if the queen Harleigh Beck writes anything, I'll read it. Both of these books were perfect!
Now, let's get to the book. Honestly, I want to digest it a bit more before giving a detailed review because I didn't want the book to end! I literally went back and reread my favorite scenes, marking dozens of sentences in each chapter. It was so good! My only real complaint is that the book is NOT LONGER. I think I want to spend my life with Kane and Jessica.
But the real hero of this book for me was Kane. It's been a long time since I've seen such a strong male character also yearning and generally in such despair, be so obsessively in love, and do anything for her. Especially Kane's perspective – constantly following Jessica, watching her every word, feeling butterflies in his stomach at her slightest smile, like a teenage girl – I thought it was perfect. Seeing this side of such a strong male character was both entertaining and emotional, and I didn't want it to end.
This book isn't over for me; I'll definitely write a more detailed review and share quotes from time to time, but first I need some time to digest it, and I'll probably reread it. If you really like stories with obsessive man and the male character falls in love first, you should definitely read it. Of course, the things they go through are very intense, and I don't want to give spoilers about that, but despite all that, his love for Jessica already captivated me.
It was so beautiful! I wish I could forget it and read it three more times! I want to hold the next book in my hands so much!!!

HARLEIGH. THAT ENDING!? WHY BECAUSE I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW PLEASE 😭
I do not handle cliffhangers well 😂 but getting more of Kane and Jessica was so worth it. If you loved the tension and banter in book 1 then you’re going to lose your mind over book 2. And the SPICE!? It was well worth the wait because my jaw was on the floor with every single word that came out of that man’s mouth.
All of the emotions though that came through though- top tier 😭 Kane is so freaking sweet when it comes to Jessica and relentless when it comes to pursing her. What he did without her knowing… I mean come on 😭 and their internal monologue had me wanting to burst out laughing one second and then sob the next. Both of them deserve the world and each-other and just PEACE but that cliffy was anything but and I’m UNWELL. I know it was to protect her… I know it was but I also have a theory about what really happened there at the end even though I’m probably being delusional lol.
I definitely won’t be able to stop thinking about these two until I know what happens next. I have so many questions and I need to know what the hell is going on with Kane’s dad and why he’s trying to keep Beverly in his good graces - btw she also needs to be thrown off a cliff lmao okay I’m done but PLEASEEEEE read these books. Kane's obsession with Jessica is equal parts terrifying and swoon worthy, and honestly I'm obsessed right along with him. I love how Kane takes what he wants and expects Jessica to do the same.
Jessica is fierce, bratty, and unapologetic, and I loved everything about her.
I also desperately wanted to jump into the pages and unalive both MCs' fathers... and maybe Chris a little too.
The story drops just enough hints that clearly set things up for future books, and I'm already guessing how it's all going to unfold. And that ending!!! Why do authors insist on cliffhangers like that?! Low key love it.

Estoy absolutamente obsesionada con estos protagonistas, con la historia, con la manera en la que escribe la autora. Unos protagonistas con una vida muy dura por diferentes razones, un amor prohibido por sus clases sociales, la tensión que hay entre ellos, lo precioso que es el con ella, lo amo, repito, LO AMO, se merece ser feliz. Necesitando urgentemente la tercera parte de esta historia. Una historia que sin duda permanecerá siempre en mi memoria, Harleigh Beck te necesitamos en español, el mundo merece leerte ❤️🔥

Words cannot describe how much I am loving this series so far. I was cheesing one minute and almost in tears the next.
This is a continuation of Jessica's and Kane's story for Fatal Collision and I think this might trump the first book. Seeing Kane fall so head over heels for Jessica was perfect, his POVs were my favourite because in his mind he was so unapologetically in love with her even though he knows he shouldn't. Jessica (my baby) is so cautious, she is so in love with Kane but also knows how the boys in his world treat the women of the Falls and with her bother breathing down her neck about staying away from him, she feels stuck at a crossroads. Plus with that ending (Harleigh, you know what you did) it's gonna be an interesting third book and I cannot wait!!

couldn’t put this down!!
I loved book one but book 2?! Blew me away. I couldn’t put it down. It broke my heart, enraged me and made me laugh. All the things I want to feel in a dark romance. I’m hooked and need to know what happens to everyone! Good and bad👀

This is book two from the Dark Lanes Series. I really liked this book focused more on the car racing and I still was invested with the two main characters. I didn’t love this book as much as the first, but it was still a good read and I will continue with the series.

A cliffhanger! SERIOUSLY!!!! Omg I’m dying. I can’t. I’m Obsessed. Highly recommend if you love dark romance books.
