Toxic Desires: Forced Proximity

Rate this book
Some cravings ruin you. Some cravings feel like home.

Josh Huxley ruined me in one night. Made me feel wanted. Ravished. Seen. Then he disappeared, without a word, like I was just another itch he needed to scratch.
What he doesn’t know is, that night, he didn’t just take my body. He took my virginity. And every part of me that still believed in something real.
Now I’m pregnant. But it’s not his—not ours. I’m carrying a baby as a surrogate for my brother and his wife, just for the extra money to finally buy that RV and chase my dream of traveling the open road.
And the doctor assigned to me for the next nine months?
Josh.
The same man who once dated my sister-in-law. The same man my brother humiliated. The same man who used me to get even, and couldn’t even look back.
But this isn’t just about what he did. It’s about what I let myself want. Because my body still aches for his, even as my heart rots from the shame of it.
I know his addiction runs deep. He devours women like they’re a drug. And I’m no better. I’ve spent years trying to control the chaos inside me. Starving for control. Drowning in guilt. Addicted to disappearing.
But Josh?
He makes me feel like I exist. And I can’t stop craving the very thing I know will destroy me. He’s poison.
I’m fractured.
But nothing tastes sweeter than a desire that should kill you.

Wow, this was such a chaotic tale about heartbreak and a lot of family and relationship drama.

Josh completely changed Sophia's life in just one night. He made her feel desired, cherished, and truly seen—all because he wanted to get back at her brother... Josh flipped Sophia's world upside down and then just vanished... He made her feel secure and acknowledged, like she wasn’t merely Nick’s little sister or some charity case from the other side of town.

After graduating, Josh left to start his practice in San Diego and finish his residency. The word on the street is that he’s raking in a nice sum every year, specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. But honestly, Sophia couldn’t care less since she barely survived the last time she saw him. But guess what? He’s back in town for good.

Nick, Sophia's older brother, and his wife Melanie are in need of a surrogate. Sophia agreed before she realized that for the foreseeable future, she’s going to have to see and interact with that new sexy specialist they call the American Don Juan... oh boy, this is going to be interesting.

To put it simply, the two lead characters aren't the only ones who've faced hardships... Nick and Melanie have had their share too.

Just because someone is raised in wealth doesn't mean their life is perfect. Likewise, growing up in a challenging environment can be equally traumatic. Every one of these characters appears to have their own hidden truth—a tragic past in some way or another.

If you are one of those people who crave stories where love cuts deep, where desire is dangerous and healing is earned—not promised. If you’ve ever fallen for the wrong person because it felt like home this one’s for you.

This book is messy, addictive, with some emotional roller coaster moments. Josh is the type of man who you shouldn’t want, but your heart refuses to see that. This book has you feeling all the cravings, regrets, and longing between the MCs. Be sure to check all TWs as this book deals with eating disorders with the FMC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Some cravings ruin you. Some cravings feel like home.” And wow Toxic Desires absolutely lives up to that line.

This book is messy, painful, addictive, and emotionally intoxicating in the best dark-romance way. From the very first page, you feel the heroine’s heartbreak and confusion. Josh Huxley is the kind of man you know you shouldn’t want and yet your heart (and pride) stubbornly refuses to cooperate. Their one-night connection, his disappearance, and the emotional fallout create a raw, gut-punching setup that feels painfully real.

The surrogate pregnancy twist adds such a layered, complicated tension. She’s carrying a baby that isn’t hers, trying to chase a dream of freedom and travel, while being emotionally tethered to a man who shattered her self-worth. And of course, fate (cruel, dramatic fate) makes Josh her doctor. The angst. The proximity. The unresolved feelings. Delicious chaos.

What really shines here is the internal struggle: shame, desire, addiction to toxic love, and the longing to feel seen. The vulnerability feels honest, and Josh is the perfect morally gray, emotionally damaged man who both hurts and heals. Their chemistry is toxic, intense, and impossible to ignore.

This story doesn’t sugarcoat obsession, self-destructive desire, or emotional scars. Instead, it leans into them, making you feel every craving, every regret, and every moment of longing. If you love second-chance angst, forbidden desire, morally questionable men, and emotionally wrecking romance, this one will own your soul.

Warning: you will crave the chaos, even while knowing it’s bad for you. And honestly? That’s the magic of this book. 🖤

I literally have no words. This book broke me in a million different ways and at first I was scared to pick it up because it’s a pretty lengthy book, but the 600 pages flew by so damn quickly because I was so invested and bawling to throughout the entire thing. I love dark romances and this one was DARK DARK. If you read the Edge of Darkness trilogy, this book is the same level of mindfuckery and angst. It contains many similar themes, and gosh our mmc had so much trauma. There is so much trauma going on, and yes he’s a complete broken wreck but so is she and thats why this book was so slam messed up. Our fmc struggles with an eating disorder and to kind of counter it and for money, she becomes a surrogate for her brother and his wife. And her OBGYN is this broken boy but hot doctor who broke her heart a year ago. Now the plot twists were absolute insane and the plot just kept getting worse and worse in terms of darkness. At some points I was just so disgusted but I couldn’t take my eyes off the page. Like at that point, no one could have pulled me away from my kindle because I NEEDED them to have a HEA. Also I really related to this book because I struggled with an ED and part of me felt so connected to our fmc. When you’re struggling with something like that, it’s the worst thing ever and I was tearing up because of how strong she was to overcome it. And the mmc too, was so amazing, he had so many setbacks but he pushed through, for her, and for himself. This story is dark but it’s emotional, deep and gritty. It’s the kind of story that drags you down to its dark depth by its sharp claws so you have no way out. I loved this book, it destroyed me in the most brilliant ways and I give this a 6/5

This book started off so good, grabbed my attention at the couple's initial calling, a man seemingly so attracted to a woman who had such self-doubts that he made her feel special, seen. Great initial draw, revenge sex? Count me in. Initial spice, but then a closed door scene of her first time? I went with it still intrigued, but as the story unfolded it simply drew to a halt of painstaking detail, overly detailed in daily events, encounters, thoughts as to make the story unnecessarily slow. So much personal inner turmoil as to overshadow the story, the romance itself. I didn't care for all the, what felt like embellished for the sake of personal turmoil -- the eating disorder revisited over and over, the religious overtones. I just couldn't tell where the book was going; and with the daily description, the feeling of slow progression, I lost interest. I would like not to feel as if I'm trudging through a plot line; as much as I liked the onset and potential of the story. Given the over the top push and pull, the hyper attention to personal trauma, and general slowness and description, I simply wasn't a fan.

Whenever Nadia comes out with a new book, I know I need to get my tissues ready. this novel is a beautifully written roller-coaster. I felt every single emotion imaginable. I cried for these characters, the ways they've been broken speaking something personal to me. I could relate to both, and I think that's why my emotions ragged hard. Thank you, Nadia, for always publishing tear jerkers with real-life experiences. And for always handing it with care.

this book is so good. it had my emotions on a roller coster. the detail to the 2 main characters life are so in depth. things I never would have thought about with bullying and eating disorders and how some mean girls truly are.
the author had me at the end. I hated the way the story ended. not because it wasn't what was needed and good for Sophia but damn she had me and the very end it went how I wanted it. but I did cry throughout the book and laugh. this was such a good read

I absolutely freaking loved this book. Yes, it has its toxic moments (the title does not lie), but reducing it to just spice would be doing it a massive disservice. This story goes so much deeper than that. Nadia Braeckel doesn’t shy away from the hard, uncomfortable (societal taboo) stuff; addiction, SA, abuse, eating disorders and the very real mental and physical toll they take on a person. It’s raw, heavy and painfully honest in the best way. You can feel the vulnerability in every page and that’s what makes it hit so hard. Thank you, Nadia, for being brave enough to tell this story the way it needed to be told. I truly cannot emphasize enough how much of a must-read this book is.

This was an Arc read for me.
The way this book drags you along for the ride whether or not you’re ready. The tension is palpable and you can feel the push pull between the MC and love interest.
This had a really solid dark romance feel. This hit on so many “dark” concepts and battles and you can feel the internal struggle with the mc.

I’m still wrecked. This wasn’t just dark romance, it was pitch-black, twisted, and relentlessly brutal. The kind of angst that claws into you and doesn’t let go. Both of MC’s were shattered in different ways. Between battling an eating disorder and becoming a surrogate for her brother and him the broken, too-tempting doctor who once shattered her heart. Every twist dragged them deeper into the dark. I was horrified, heartbroken, completely unable to look away, desperate for their hard-earned HEA. It was raw, gritty, and painfully real, especially in the way it portrayed her struggle and strength. This story didn’t just break me but destroy me beautifully.

This was a good read. I did get a bit tired of the constant back and forth of Josh and Sophia's relationship. You really get the raw emotions of both Josh and Sophia. Sophia has a difficult time trusting white Josh has never been in a relationship, and it's all new to him, so he doesn't know what to do, all while Sophia is carrying her brother and sister-in-laws baby.

Wow. The book started out slow, but once it started going I was hooked. I smiled, I laughed, I cried, and I wanted to climb into the book and choke someone. It discussed struggling with different types of addictions and really showed how people deal with it internally.
I love how you really get to know how Sophia and Josh really feel and how they are dealing with their own struggles.

Toxic Desire is a brutal, unflinching exploration of obsession, desire, and the messy chaos of human connection. From the first page, it grips you and doesn’t let go, pulling you into a world where love, lust, and control collide in the most combustible ways.
The story centers on Sophia and Josh — two people haunted by their pasts, their desires, and the rules they’ve built to protect themselves. Sophia’s journey is raw and painfully real. As a surrogate, she faces the physical and emotional toll of carrying a child for someone else, all while confronting her own insecurities and past trauma. You feel every pang of fear, every moment of self-doubt, and the suffocating pressure of giving herself to someone else’s family while navigating the dangerous territory of her own heart. The way she grapples with her body, her identity, and the intense emotions surrounding her pregnancy had me clutching the pages.
Josh is a storm in human form — brilliant, damaged, and intoxicatingly reckless. His internal struggle is just as compelling. Watching him wrestle with his desire for Sophia, his guilt over past mistakes, and the walls he’s built around his heart made him feel achingly real. The sexual tension between them is electric, but what makes it extraordinary is the way the book never lets it exist in a vacuum. Every touch, every glance carries the weight of history, regret, and unspoken longing.
The dynamics in Toxic Desire are intense, sometimes uncomfortably so. The tension is not just sexual but psychological, as Sophia navigates the toxic pull of Josh, the expectations of those around her, and her own self-doubt. Scenes like their confrontations after the dinner with Sophia’s family and their private moments — full of vulnerability and explosive chemistry — left me breathless. I could feel Sophia’s panic, shame, and longing in ways that made her experiences impossible to ignore. And Josh? Every time he appears, he dominates the scene not just physically but emotionally, pulling you into his guilt, his need, and his undeniable craving for Sophia.
What sets this book apart is how it balances raw, steamy romance with deep psychological insight. It’s messy, it’s morally complicated, and it’s addictive. You’re never just reading about characters hooking up — you’re inside their minds, feeling the pull of obsession, desire, and fear in a way that’s hard to shake. The author doesn’t shy away from showing how damaging and intoxicating these kinds of connections can be, making every choice, every glance, every whispered word count.
If you’re looking for a dark, intense, and emotionally charged romance that doesn’t flinch from the darker sides of love and desire, Toxic Desire is it. It’s a book that will make you gasp, squirm, and swoon all at once — and it will stay with you long after the last page.

This story hits so many heavy triggers. Everything from eating disorders, addiction, fertility issues, childhood trauma, abuse, r@pe..... They are heavy throughout the book so definitely proceed with caution if needed. I loved the story itself. The whole second chance romance, the surrogacy storyline, the MMC being the doctor.... The childhood trauma Josh went through was completely heartbreaking. I just wanted to hug him and protect from every adult who failed him. Then Sophia had her own internal struggles with trying to learn to love herself. I do wish there was a bit more of Sophia's relationship with her brother and Melissa. The fact that she was close enough to carry their baby, but then, there is only a handful of times she with them, mostly while at work, seemed odd. The constant "I love you but I'm too messed up to be with you" push and pull started to feel like it was dragging, and Charlotte..... she was quite the piece of work.... I'm not sure if I've ever hated a fictional character that much.... The pace definitely picked up at the last 30% or so, but getting there...... When the FMC finally picks herself I literally shouted out "Hallelujah!". I was a long time coming and she deserved to finally put herself first.

One of the lines that I feel everyone needs to read (there was a few, but this one...... ) "The woman I’m becoming she deserves more than breadcrumbs and apologies. She deserves to be chosen. To be seen. To be loved." OMG YES!!

The book could definitely use another good through for editing errors, some pages were hard to get through and it would pull you right out of the story. But all in all, it was a beautiful story of healing and learning to love yourself

Toxic Desires is the third book in the Toxic Love series. It's a dark romance, unafraid to explore the darker facets of human connection and emotional scars. It promises an addictive, unforgettable experience and deeply resonant emotional conflict. The author beautifully crafts a blend of intrigue, meaningful dialogue, and characters' growth and complex relationships. Toxic Desires is a compelling, gripping, and raw wild ride that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

Sophia's life was shattered in a single, life-altering night. Josh, driven by revenge, uses his charm, then abruptly disappears, leaving Sophia profoundly scarred and with a shattered belief in a genuine connection. Fate, in its cruelest form, orchestrates their reunion under the most unexpected circumstances, which elevates the tension. The pull between them still exists, and it's stronger than ever. The forced proximity, the professional boundaries and unresolved feelings create angst, internal conflict, guilt, shame, and vulnerability. An intense and dramatic ride filled with intrigue, illicit desire, and a forced proximity that will test the strength of their relationship. Their chemistry is raw, visceral, and fueled by a shared understanding of their own brokenness. Sophia and Josh's fragile connection unravels how deeply intertwined they are despite their wounds and conflict.

It is a well-written and addictive second chance (angst) love story.

So let me be honest and say that it took me a while to get into this book, I really struggled with the FMC (Sophia, she has an eating disorder) not because of this but because it was a long time into the book when she finally accepted herself and loved herself, which is fine I know there is no time on recovery from these types of things I just wish when it came to the MMC she had abit more of a back bone instead of letting him pull her in to toss her away again.
That being said, when I did get into it which was about 3/4 chapters in I was hooked, I liked that you could see flash backs on both MCs lives and that you could clearly see a slow character development building throughout the book.
The MMC (Josh) has a sex addition from a previous abusive childhood which makes him think he’s not entitled to be loved and doesn’t deserve happiness, which is obviously wrong, but when I first started this book I wanted to hate this guy just cause it was so clear he loved Sophia and wanted to be good for her but he needed help himself first. As the book progresses I started to get abit protective over both characters while simultaneously wanting to reach into the pages and give the a shake and just say sort your ish out people!!
Throughout this book it made be sob, like full on ugly cry), laugh and genuinely feel happy when I saw the MCs finally get their ish together and find each other again it was really a full circle moment and I honestly felt like I was going through all the crazy stuff with them!

ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

WOW! This book was very accurately titled because this was quite possibly the most toxic love story I’ve ever read. Josh and Sophia literally made my head spin. It’s like every single chapter I was walking on eggshells trying to see if they were “on” or “off.” 🤣 Their love was raw and messy but at the same time it was completely captivating and consuming.

I have to be honest, at first I thought this was going to be a typical “rich guy falls for poor wallflower girl” story, but I was dead wrong. Both characters were so relatable and beautifully flawed with all of their struggles. Experiencing how both characters battled their addictions and mental illnesses was refreshing. I made them more relatable. More real. It gave background to many of the reasons they both acted out. I also loved how they both weren’t innocent in their wrong doings. Sophia pissed me off through half of the book bringing up the past while Josh couldn’t be a man admit what their current relationship was.

I did find it a little surprising that the fact that NO ONE was really concerned that a doctor was very openly carrying on a sexual relationship with his patient? They weren’t exactly discreet in the hospital at all. And the fact that she was pregnant the whole damn time?! 🤯🤯🤯 wild. Just wild. Loved this book. It was the first one I’ve read from this author, and I can say I am now a fan.

Toxic Desires was such a messy, emotional ride and honestly I had a really good time with it. Nadia has this way of writing characters who are deeply flawed but still completely human, and this book leans hard into that. The tension between the main characters is immediate and heavy with history, regret, and a lot of unresolved feelings that refuse to stay buried. Watching them circle each other again after everything that happened between them had me fully locked in.

Josh is the kind of MMC that makes you want to shake him and hug him at the same time. He’s frustrating, complicated, and carrying far more baggage than he’d ever willingly admit. Sophia isn’t exactly walking through life unscathed either, and the two of them together are basically emotional chaos with chemistry strong enough to power a small city. Their dynamic is messy, intense, and sometimes a little painful to watch, but that’s also what makes their story so compelling.

For me this lands comfortably at 4 stars. I really enjoyed the angst, the tension, and the emotional depth, but it didn’t quite punch me in the soul the way a few of Nadia’s other books have. Still, it’s addictive, dramatic in the best way, and packed with that raw emotional storytelling she does so well.

If you like romance that’s a little messy, a little toxic, and full of characters trying to figure themselves out while making questionable life decisions…...this one will absolutely keep you turning pages.

Toxic Desires is an intoxicating dark romance that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. The story pulls you in with its intensity, exploring desire, regret, obsession, and the kind of love that lingers long after it should be gone.

Sophia is the girl who never wants the spotlight, who’s already damaged and knows Josh is a bad idea yet even with all the warning signs, she finds herself drawn to him—the classic bad boy, who’s charming and challenges her in every way imaginable. Their connection is magnetic and complicated, pushing Sophia beyond her comfort zone in ways that are both thrilling and damaging. She craves him, regrets him, and can’t seem to fully escape the hold he has over her.

Even after time passes, the unresolved tension between them remains powerful. When Sophia encounters Josh again—now with another girl—she’s flooded with regret and desire all at once. It perfectly captures how time doesn’t always heal what was never truly resolved. Josh’s lingering attraction, and possibly obsession, with Sophia only heightens the emotional stakes.

This book leaves you wanting more, with a lingering sense of emptiness when it ends. It’s dark, emotional, and deeply addictive—perfect for readers who love complex, morally gray romance that stays with you long after the final page.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Everyone faces demons. This book is a reminder that behind every smiling face, glossy hair, or a caring demeanor, there is a story written with blood, and shadows, and toxic desires.

This novel is a far cry from my usual read, but it gripped me as a few have. I needed to know how the relationships on the page unfolded. Our FMC was incredibly relatable with a traditional Italian family, a *not so secret* ED (check your triggers, there are a few real ones), and a 25-year-old virgin.

The MMC was an instant hook. He's handsome and charming and so incredibly flawed.
It's impossible not to root for these two. The side characters were dynamic and well-rounded. Her friend Lizzie ("Elizabeth, but everyone calls me Lizzie") is someone I wanted in my circle of friends, too.

The angst and yearning were on par with a great telenovela and kept me hooked throughout. The back-and-forth between Sophia and Josh was my favorite; it kept me up late and going without sleep.

The last 15% had me crying and feeling Josh's wounds deeply, while silently hoping Nick would get his own issues under control so we could witness some cute family moments.

Thank you, Nidia, for portraying what it means to be human in such a loving and raw way. Grab this book on Amazon - it's available today, 2/17/26.

A very gut wrenching, emotion packed story about Sophia & Josh -- two very damaged souls. Both shaped by childhood trauma and tragedy that shapes how they see themselves as adults, both exhibit self-destructive behavior, and both are trying to navigate their current "relationship" after a year of not seeing each other.

In their first encounter, Josh, with deliberate intention and foresight, deliberately seduces Sophia, with promises of a tomorrow, then leaves town and ghosts her as revenge against her brother, Nick and his girlfriend Melanie -- Josh's ex. Sophia doesn't know this. They meet again when Josh returns to town as a OB/Gyn specialist.

They relationship if fraught with obstacles of self-destruction because Josh doesn't know how to give and Sophia doesn't know how to receive. They both feel out of control, but Josh really detonates the relationship by betraying Sophia.

The rest of the story is how they both overcome self-doubt, feelings of being less than, and working towards self-love and improvement so they can work towards a healthy relationship.

One of my favorite quotes of this story is as follows as Sophia expresses how she feels as a surrogate -- "The guilt lodged in my chest like a stone. Here I was, obsessing over a stretch mark or gaining a few pounds, while she [Melanie] sat across from me, watching someone else carry her dream." 🍼😢

Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This wasn’t the easiest read for me. Some of the trigger warnings really hit close to home, so I had to take this one slow. I also think the book could use another round of edits — there were quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes that made it harder to stay fully into the story.

And the title? It does not lie. This relationship is toxic. I love a good push and pull, but this was a LOT of push and pull. At some point it started to feel repetitive, like we were going in circles with the FMC and MMC hating each other over and over again. There were several moments where it felt like the book was about to end… and then it just kept going.

That being said, the last chunk of the book (about the final 200 pages) was actually so good. The pacing finally picked up, the tension felt meaningful, and I was fully locked in. I even got to the end thinking, “Wait… that’s it?” and then the bonus content completely delivered.

I did love seeing the FMC finally choose herself and grow. And the MMC becoming the man I knew he could be? That development was satisfying. Even if they were messy and toxic, they grew into something healthier by the end.

A raw, addictive story about craving what could destroy you.

Some cravings ruin you. Some cravings feel like home. And this book embodies that line perfectly.

This story is messy in the most intentional way — emotionally raw, morally complicated, and completely consuming. Josh and the heroine’s connection isn’t soft or simple. It’s charged, painful, addictive… and impossible to ignore. Their history is tangled with betrayal, family tension, guilt, and unresolved desire, which makes every interaction feel loaded and electric.

What I loved most is that this isn’t just about romance — it’s about control, shame, self-worth, and the deep hunger to be seen. The surrogate pregnancy storyline adds another layer of vulnerability and tension that keeps the stakes high and the emotions even higher.

The push and pull between them? Torturous in the best way. You feel the ache. The craving. The self-destruction. And somehow, you root for them anyway.

If you love:
• Second chance tension
• Morally messy MMCs
• Emotional depth with spice
• Addiction-to-each-other vibes
• Angst that lingers long after the last page

This one will ruin you… and you’ll thank it for it.

Nothing tastes sweeter than a desire that should destroy you.

Honest review- I love a good push and pull but this was so much push and pull between the FMC and MMC that it got to be relentless and quite annoying. The storyline just kept dragging on and it was hard to keep going at times because I felt like it was just being written for more length which was unnecessary. There were multiple times where it felt like it was ending and then it didn’t and just went back to the beginning of the MCs hating eachother.

The book also needs to be re-edited because there are a significant amount of grammatical and spelling errors throughout which makes it hard to want to keep reading.

I don’t want this to be completely negative because I will say this- the last 150 pages was absolutely phenomenal. The storyline picked up and the push and pull wasn’t as daunting. I got to the end and said really that’s it what was the surprise and then you gave me a bonus which was absolute perfection.

I do love that the FMC finally came into her own and picked herself and was able to grow. And that the MMC was able to become what I knew he had in him and become what she deserved. Even if they were toxic they grew into healthy together.

This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. It completely had me on the edge of my seat, unable to put it down. The author did a phenomenal job capturing every raw emotion—the longing, the internal struggles, and the deep desire the characters felt for one another. I was fully invested in their journey.

The heartbreak they endured felt real and deeply moving, which made their story even more powerful. What I appreciated most was how they didn’t just rely on love alone; they took the time to work on themselves, to heal, and to become better individuals—not only for each other, but for themselves. That growth added so much depth and authenticity to their relationship.

I also really enjoyed the level of spice in this book. The intimate scenes with Sophia & Josh were undeniably hot, but what stood out even more was the emotional connection woven into many of them. It wasn’t just physical—it was filled with desire, tension, and feeling, which made those moments even more impactful.

Overall, this was a beautifully written, emotionally gripping, and passionate read that I would highly recommend.

I honestly don’t even have the right words for how much this book wrecked me. I was a little intimidated by the length at first, but the pages flew by because I was completely hooked from start to finish. This is truly a dark romance in every sense — heavy, emotional, and full of angst that just keeps building the deeper you get into the story. There were moments where it felt almost overwhelming in how intense and heavy everything was, but I couldn’t put it down because I was so invested in the characters and their journey.

What really stood out to me was how raw and emotionally charged the story felt. Both main characters are deeply flawed and broken in their own ways, which makes their connection messy, complicated, and strangely compelling. It’s gritty, emotional, and not afraid to lean into the darker themes, but that’s also what makes it so powerful. Even when it was uncomfortable, I was fully locked in and rooting for them the entire time. This book completely destroyed me in the best way, and if you love deeply emotional, very dark, angst-heavy romances, this one will absolutely consume you.

This was my first book by Nadia Braeckel, and I honestly really enjoyed it. It’s definitely less spicy than what I usually go for, but it was still a really good read.

The story leans more into the emotions and the characters’ pasts, and you really feel what they’re going through. Sophia becomes a surrogate for her brother and his wife, which is already a big, emotional decision. Then she runs into someone from her past that she never expected to see again—and of course, he ends up being her OB-GYN. Talk about complicated.

There’s a lot of heartbreak and unresolved trauma between the two main characters, so be ready for some heavy moments. But it’s also about healing and working through the past, which I really appreciated. And yes, there’s a happily ever after, which made it all worth it.

Overall, even though it wasn’t super spicy, it was still an enjoyable, emotional read—and I’d definitely pick up another book by this author.
