"...caught a flash of two of the deepest dimples I’d ever seen and probably should have taken a pregnancy test a few days later."

...girllll please 🤣😭

It was supposed to be fun in theory, but I don't think I enjoyed this as much as I thought I was going to. Maybe I went in with too many expectations, but it didn't quite give me the feel of a Valentine's Day novella until the date.

I'm definitely in the minority with this opinion, so I would say check it out if you haven't yet. The biggest reason I couldn't rate this higher even though it's a cute novella would be that it just felt like there was so much going on even thought it was under 100 pages if you catch my drift.

Anyways, short books for the win especially when my January has been slow reading-wise. In my free time, I've been binging all those tv shows I've been meaning to get to for a long time.

This was so, so cute, but the FMC was a childish bitch. I adored the heck out of Jude, though. They were such a cute couple, and I loved seeing their dynamic with each other.

This reminded me too much of their other novella, "The Exception to the Rule"—they were very similar. However, I enjoyed The Exception to the Rule more than this one.

Omg, this was so freaking cute and funny! 🤭😭❤️ The banter and chemistry between Jude and Veronica made me giggle and kick my feet, and the story and writing itself was so good and addicting! I would love a full-length novel about those two because this was just so sweet and the plot was literally the best because what are the odds?? 🥹😆💕 This one has to be my favorite one of the series so far! 🤭

This was such a cute novella, I really enjoyed it!
It was quick, fun, well developed and it had me giggling so much.

Veronica accidentally crashes a Zoom meeting and gives them some harsh criticism which leads the company CEO to offer her a job.. Their work e-mails lead to banter, which leads to flirting.. They don't know each other, but their connection isn't all that coincidental..

I loved Jude and Veronica, their banter was so good and they really had chemistry, which made the quick timeline much more believable. I loved their e-mails and texting and how well they matched each other's vibe, they were so adorable. I'm also glad we got some backstory.
We got to meet some secondary characters too and I really loved her sister, but Larry was definitely the star of the show.

I really hated the miscommunication though.. That was such an unnecessary addition, it was honestly so stupid, which is why I took away a star..

my two fave romance authors put out another adorable novella and ofc i gobbled it right up!!!!!

love their novellas and always wishing they were longer! as a chicago native, it’s always fun to read a book set there. this book was cute, creative, funny and quick. the banter was good and Jude is a vibe. parts were unrealistic to me (a CEO doesn’t have a LinkedIn?! her big box didn’t show the chair on the outside?!) but i suspend belief in the spirit of romance!!!

TLDR; a cute little romcom perfect for a february/vday binge!

cute.
fmc was relatable and funny enough that I didn't get bored
mmc was like any mmc in an romance novel
the novella was performative enough that I believe nothing like this would ever happen and this guy's music taste is too good to be true but not performative enough that it makes me believe nothing like this could ever happen

some quotes:

Alas, I remembered that I spent the last four years working with these same kinds of guys, saving them from their bad graphics and terrible pitches and watching them be promoted over me

Company retreats turned out to be full of coke and misogyny.

He’s the kind of beautiful man to be admired from a distance, because there’s no way when he opens his mouth that whatever comes out can live up to the exterior.

You’re pitching a million-dollar campaign with less substance than an influencer’s skin care routine.

She usually chooses well for me, like Tame Impala, Anderson .Paak, Phoebe Bridgers, Kendrick, Frank Ocean.

“Veronica Cochran, my beautiful neighbor, my brilliant Zoom crasher, and the most perfect first date of my life. We have all the time in the world.” ❤️

This novella was so heartwarming and fun! Perfect for Valentine’s Day! ❤️ I was engaged in sweet romance from the first page. The plot was interesting and the pacing was perfect. The writing was witty, fun, and engaging. I enjoyed the cozy Valentine’s Day vibes. This book felt like a warm hug on a winter day. The characters were relatable and intriguing. Veronica was a great main character, she was smart, hardworking, talented, funny, outgoing, and friendly. Veronica’s character development was decent, I enjoyed seeing her happy in her job and find true love. I would’ve enjoyed learning more about her past and her characteristics in more depth. I really liked Jude, he was funny, smart, sweet, outgoing, caring and respectful. I enjoyed the side characters but they weren’t the focus of the story. I loved the banter between Jude and Veronica. The romance between Jude and Veronica was wonderful. I enjoyed that it was slow burn for a novella they were neighbors for several months before they became closer. The chemistry between them was well done. I enjoyed how relatable their relationship was and it didn’t move too fast. I wasn’t a fan of the miscommunication, but it was resolved very quickly. The ending was heartwarming and lovely.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sweet romance books with relatable characters and great chemistry between the characters.

This was something that was short and cute and honestly pretty funny! It gives all the fun vibes and hilarious banter an it's perfect to sit here and binge for an hour or so! If there's something I love about Christina Lauren it's that she does dialogue so well and I found myself blushing throughout reading this.

Jude and Veronica actually had fairly good chemistry for a 93 page book! I liked that it was strictly sweet and it's perfect for someone who isn't as big of a fan of spice.

While, of course, this was incredibly unrealistic and very dramatic, I enjoyed the premise and thought it would be the perfect palette cleanser if you just want something to make you giggle and swoon. What an adorable novella! 🩷

I was excited for this one, because I saw good early reviews, but I found this incredibly boring.

I usually enjoy the email and text format throughout books as it is usually fun, but it was basically all about work and not exciting work. I felt like I was back at work instead of reading a romance.

This was a total miss for me, so hope others enjoy this one more than I did.

Valentine #1 🩷

This was such a cute and very funny read 😭✨
The zoom-crasher moment and every single email exchange was so adorable and entertaining. It honestly gave me nostalgic vibes for old-school love stories and long-distance relationships — that cozy, simple kind of romance 🫶🏻📧

Some of Veronica’s actions annoyed me a bit, especially when Jude came to her house — she felt a little childish there. But still, I couldn’t help but love Jude and Veronica together and how they were already crushing on each other both in real life and online 🤭💌

Overall, such a lovely read for February — the month of love, feelings, and falling a little too hard 🫠🩷

veronica, who is looking for a new job has an online interview but mistakenly joins a meeting for another company and vents her frustration about her old job by sharing her unfiltered opinion. surprisingly, she receives a job offer from that same company. she and the CEO begin exchanging professional emails that quickly turn flirty.

alright please don't pay attention to my rating because this book wasn't terrible but i've read this type of story about twice now and it seems like a copy-and-paste from the same book. "someone has a crush on their neighbour, then exchanges flirty messages with someone else but oh, surprise! your real-life crush and your online crush are the same person! wow, fate, coincidence, destiny" (!!) positive things: their banter was funny, the email exchanges were entertaining and their sense of humour was enjoyable. anyway i'll keep reading this series in the hope of finding a favourite 🤞🏻

it wasn't anything special, but it was cute! and i enjoyed reading it. i am a big fan of when authors incorporate different formats in their books, so this gets an extra point for that too!

there were certain moments that made me cringe though 😐 for example, the below quote:
I caught a flash of two of the deepest dimples I’d ever seen and probably should have taken a pregnancy test a few days later.

like - that's cute in theory, but let's not actually put them in books!

but there's also real stuff in here:
He’s the kind of beautiful man to be admired from a distance, because there’s no way when he opens his mouth that whatever comes out can live up to the exterior.

I thought the pacing was perfect, the length was perfect, and the characters were perfect. 10/10, no notes.
Fair warning: Like the FMC, I am a woman in marketing that eats/breathes PowerPoint pitch decks, and DEVOURS modern epistolary romances, so I feel like my rating/review is going to be skewed (for the positive). I actually plan on re-reading this again SOON.

○★○ What to Expect from This Book: ○★○

About: Veronica accidentally ends up in a sort of “all hands” virtual meeting for a tech company and because she’s anonymous, gives them brutal feedback from a marketing perspective. The CEO tracks her down and begs her to do a consultation, but the two soon realize that there’s more here than meets the eye. But they probably don’t even live in the same town, right? SURELY not the same apartment building… 😉
FMC: Veronica Cochran. Marketing pitch deck creator looking for a job. Quick witted and a go-getter
MMC: Jude Tilde (aka “Friday”). Runs his brother’s tech company but misses being the one to do the coding
Location: Chicago, Illinois
POV: Dual first-person; additional emails/IMs included
Spice: None (mostly witty flirting and maybe some innuendo)
Tropes: URL to IRL, serendipity, secret identity, neighbors, workplace romance
Content warning: communicating through Slack (hehe), corporate expectations
Representation: nothing noteworthy

🎯 My Thoughts:

OKAY Christina and Lauren! You guys really struck oil with me on this one. I know that it’s because Veronica and I pretty much have the same career (though she seems WAY more put together about it) and you got me with the subtle (and not so subtle) jabs at corporate work. But I very much enjoyed this.

I am a sucker for improbable meet cutes. I think it makes the romance so much more fun if, for example, they meet because a pigeon flies into the room (and one of you are seven years in the past) or they meet at a coffee shop minutes before the FMC has a job interview at the company the MMC also works at or—in this case—the FMC’s accidentally invited to an all hands of the MMCs company and tears them a new one. And then they flirt through email and text? Scrumptious. Give me more.

But also, how did she randomly get invited to that…I get random invitations all the time but it’s super evident that they are spammers, so Veronica either needs some InfoSec training or she just is grinding in hopes of the next big job.

Would I Recommend?: Heck yes! Especially if you’re looking for a quick and clean romance.

Workplace romance ✅
Close proximity ✅
Accidental meet-cute ✅

Despite being a quick, fun, and lighthearted read, this book actually had a decent amount of depth to it.

After accidentally joining the wrong zoom-call, Veronica is shocked to receive a job offer from the company she just berated online. Desperate for a job, she accepts a freelance position; intrigued by the company's CEO.

As a proud ‘You’ve got mail’ lover, I always appreciate a bit of back and forth email communication, and Christina definitely delivered with her usual witty banter and lighthearted responses.

It was fun and flirty without too much spice 👌🏽 A perfect little short story to make you smile 😃

“Veronica Cochran, my beautiful neighbor, my brilliant Zoom crasher, and the most perfect first date of my life.” He reaches across the table, taking my hand. “I suspect we have all the time in the world.” 💘✨

I’m an absolute sucker for epistolary romances, especially when the characters in question are already in one another’s lives but don’t realise it, so this latest CLo short story was promising to hit a lot of my favourite trope buttons before I’d even turned the first page.

I can now confirm, Accidentally Yours was 93-pages of warmth, laughter, and swoony tummy butterflies, as I eagerly gobbled my way through this charming Valentines-era romance.

Veronica and Jude were effortlessly likeable MCs, delivering some epic banter and laugh-out-loud wit through their online communications that amused and delighted me, reminding me, once again, why I will always be down for any new story Christina (and) Lauren conjure up together, because 9 times out of 10, I know I’m going to walk away a happy and satisfied romance reader.

“When I said I was in a relationship, I was being hopeful.” He smiles at me. “I was talking about you.”

i was hopeful that this wouldn’t bore me to death, but unfortunately that’s exactly what happened. in a romance so short, don’t piss me off by having all this work talk. also, the chemistry must’ve been edited out the book cause it was nowhere to be found. i usually love the text & email format but so help me these two were the stalest characters ever.. thanks for nothing.

I absolutely adore Christina Lauren’s 2024 Valentine short story, The Exception to the Rule. Seriously, EttR is the most romantic 103-page short story ever written, imho. Accidentally Yours is written in a similar vein, with a couple corresponding and flirting before meeting or even know what the other looks like. Eventually, one learns that the other is the hot neighbor they’ve been admiring when passing in the apartment lobby. The secret is eventually discovered by both and happy ever after ensues. Lovely, but not as good as EttR (though nothing ever will be).
