Fitting In #3

Burning Up

Rate this book
Bryce has been a firefighter for ten years, but when a horrific house fire leaves him reeling, he moves to a new city, hoping to shove those memories behind him. As he adjusts to his new station, Bryce keeps to himself until Matt and Toby, two hot young men in his unit, throw temptation in his path. Bryce knows better than to mess around with men he works with, especially two newbies who are in the closet. But after a difficult day, Matt and Toby offer him compassion and friendship, which slips so easily into sex Bryce finds the combination irresistible.

Matt and Toby want to expand their relationship to include a third, and they've set their sights on their sexy bear of a lieutenant. Their first night together is a scorcher, and, more than that, it feels right, to all of them. But since Bryce refuses to hide who he is, and dating men on his shift is against the rules, all three men are going to have to make some tough choices if they want to stay together.

~3.5~

The following public service announcement has been brought to you by:

Wait, lost my train of thought . . .

Oh, yeah: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK; MAY CAUSE HEAT STROKE.

This story sizzles, burns, crackles, and blisters in all its sweltering, torrid, ardent, lustful glory.

*walks off stage to claim purple prose award*

Matt and Toby, both 22, are firemen, best friends, and lovers. They work, play, and live together. They're both instantly attracted to Bryce (who's older, although it's unclear how old; I was thinking early-30s) when he joins their station.

Bryce, who transferred stations due to a tragedy he witnessed at his previous post, also works with Mason (an MC from the previous two books) at a bar where Matt and Toby can conveniently stalk him in the evenings.

Bryce does not want a relationship, much less a convoluted, complicated ménage à trois. But he can't resist serious, intense Matt and sweet, funny Toby.

Bryce knows the two men shouldn't be working together or with him, but Matt resists Bryce's attempts to talk them into coming clean with the captain.

Burning Up contains plentiful, ridiculously HAWT man-on-man-on-man action with light bondage, spanking, cock rings, butt plugs, and MORE.

Because we only get Bryce's POV, we never get inside Toby and Matt's relationship to see what their motivation, besides the obviously sexual one, is for wanting a third in their relationship.

Bryce's internal monologue (I want them! No, it's all too much. But they're hot, and I want to fuck them hard NOW! No, bitch, no, no, we work together, not cool. UGH, but what does my HEART say?) drove me up the fucking wall.

I wanted some real-word problems vs. toppy, bossy, dominant (oooh yeah!) Bryce whining like a teenage girl from Sweet Valley High.

This book CAN be read as a standalone. I have not read the first two books and had no trouble following the story, even though there are several scenes featuring the three MCs from books 1 and 2, Jack, Grey, and Mason, who are in a ménage à trois of their own and quite vested in offering Bryce relationship advice, whether he wants it or not.

I definitely wanted more character development for all three men and more in the way of plot; there were quite a few typos in my ARC that will hopefully be cleaned up by pub date.

Despite this, and even with the relationship angst, Bryce's waffling, and a dramatic rescue at the end, this is an easy, not to mention SEXY and FUN, read featuring three buff, horny firemen, a cool dog, and real firefighting action.

Wow, this was practically the polar opposite of the first book in the series. While that book was all about the emotion and sexual awareness of the three men, this book was all about Bryce, the third man of an already established relationship of two, trying to talk himself out of the hookup. And, man, did that get old! I stopped at 50% and Bryce was still scoping out other men while at a bar with Toby and Matt. Just no emotion. I only read the one sex scene, which I thought had potential since it seemed some good D/s action would probably be coming down the line, but I just can't continue. Bryce is too much of a dick and even if he did a complete 180 in the next few pages, the bad taste in my mouth would remain.

Im not going to rate since I didn't finish, but I'm also not going to recommend this one. For a hot, emotion filled ménage story, I suggest reading the first book in the series and skip this one.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3

I really liked the first two parts of the series focussing on Jack, Gray and Mason. I was already a little wary when I heared that this part of the series would be focussing on Bryce - a firefighter who is new in town and also working as a bartender part-time. In order to overcome difficult memories, Bryce decided to leave Atlanta behind and to start over in another town and at another station.

Two young firefighters - Toby and Matt - are quickly raising his interest, but he isn't willing to give in to temptation. They are way younger than himself and they are working in the same unit. And just like Mason used to be, Bryce doesn't want to intrude in the young men's relationship.

However, after a difficult operation at work, Bryce is overcome by old memories and suddenly Toby and Matty are there for him. They listen to his worries and are there for him when he is feeling lost. This night spent together risks to break Bryce's resolution.

While I was immediately pulled in by the dynamics between Mason, Gray and Jack, I somehow wasn't able to connect with Bryce, Toby and Matt. I guess that the story was lacking in background information about the characters and a lot of problems of the first two books were reconsidered in this relationship. It felt kind like a recycling of ideas.

Compared to the first two parts of the series, the sex was still hot, but didn't have the same intensity than the very hot and kinky interaction between Mason, Gray and Jack. I have to admit that some of the sex scenes were a bit boring - the last one at the end of the book was making up for it a bit.

The story was severely lacking in plot! It was all about Bryce's insecrities, indecision and wailing - it was seriously annoying to follow his inner monologue from time to time!

All points considered, I can't rate this book with more than three very generous stars. It was an okay and entertaining read, but nothing more!

This easily works as a standalone, although there are appearances from Mason, Gray and Jack of the first 2 stories.

While the bedroom action was hot and the story was entertaining, I didn't feel as much of a connection with Bryce, Matt and Toby as I did with the men in the prior books. I felt like I didn't get to know them enough outside of the attraction and the shared job. I also found Bryce's internal monologue to be a bit much (but this is often a peeve of mine) and the fact that he thinks he's ancient when he's in his early 30's.

For me, the bar may have been set a bit high by the first two books, but the story definitely was hot with some fun moments and it was nice to catch up with Mason, Gray and Jack.

This one was ok, but I enjoyed the first two books in this series more. Bryce's inner dialog got in the way of the story flow a bit too much, in my opinion. Beyond that, I enjoyed the sex scenes, but would have loved to have more actual character development. This story felt a touch rushed.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Burning up is book three in the Fitting In series and sees the introduction of three new men. Bryce, Toby and Matt all work out of the same firehouse and whilst Toby and Matt are already in a relationship they are clearly sending out signals to Bryce showing their interest in getting together with him.

They are an interesting mix of characters; Bryce is much older than Matt and Toby and isn’t sure whether it is attraction or flattery that he feels at first.

Bryce left his last firehouse when running from memories of a particularly bad fire that saw a mother and her children die. He has closed himself off emotionally not only from looking for a partner but also from friends. He has made friends with Mason who we all know from the first two books as he works with him at a bar part time. He can’t help marvel at the way Mason’s relationship works with his two boyfriends but isn’t convinced it would work out the same way for him.

Matt and Toby have been together for years. They are not out at work and have no plans of changing that anytime soon as that would leave them unable to work the same shifts together.

It’s clear early on that Toby is submissive but Matt is much more difficult to work out. He is much less forward in letting Bryce know his needs but when he feels able he is much more responsive. The more I got to know Matt the more he became my favourite out of the three.

Whilst Matt and Toby are certain they want Bryce to join them they are terrified of coming out at work and the implied changes that brings. Bryce has his own fears and his biggest is damaging the relationship the two other men have. It takes the thought of losing one of the men through an accident at work to make them all see more clearly and finally admit how they truly feel.

I enjoyed learning about this new trio and it was also good to catch up with Mason, Gray and Jack who are also moving on in their relationship.

We met Bryce the firefighter, now we meet Matt and Toby. Touching and heartwarming story. Terrifically hot and super emotions bring this story to life !! I was so riveted, I couldn't put it down.

Deep thought filled characters, interesting story, and super hot M/M/M sex scenes are all here to revel in. Wow ! It is a truly beautiful romance and study of what each one needs to complete their triad.
They deal with emotions, family, work, and their new love. (Light BDSM) This feeling romance and suspenseful tale will definitely hold your attention. Moving along nicely in their relationship, this has a wonderfully full story line.

This author, and this series are excellent. Highly recommended.
Well written, well done in every way.
I loved this one !! E N J O Y !!!

Not much to say about this one. I just couldn't feel the connection between them. The sex was hot, sure, but it felt rushed and sometimes came out of nowhere. Bryce's inner battle was a bit tiring. Then he would give in and then he would feel guilty again.

The second half of the book was a little more engaging.Generally, I liked the first two books of the series way more.

Of course, I'm not sorry I read it because

Ideally I'd like to rate this 3.5, but since half stars aren't allowed and I loved getting to visit with Mason, Jack and Gray I had to round up to 4.

I couldn't really get into this story.

Hmn, okay. Not as good as the first. The connection wasn't all the way there for me. And, I couldn't get over Bryce's description of himself as some "older" guy. It may have played better if he were an older man. 32 is not old. Now I sound old! Whatever! You know what I mean.

Paar will heißen Single, heißer Single hat Angst 😉😁
Trotzdem schön geschrieben, flüssig und Kopfkinoerzeugend 🔥🤤
Ich hoffe, dass noch mehr Bände übersetzt werden 😉

I love these men!!! Another beautifully written love story of a MMM relationship.. The story line flows well and the character development was amazing. The connection with the first 2 novels in the series makes a for a great story!! Bryce was a firefighter that came from Atlanta to get away from a tragic event in his line of work. He is the lieutenant of one of the fire department stations and he is out to those around him. He also works with Mason at the bar which ties them all together. He meets Matt & Toby who are two of his firefighters & a couple, and the three have a strong attraction to each other. Bryce is afraid to act on this because of the rules of the FD, plus he was their superior. Mason, Gray, and Jack, the other MMM couple have been encouraging him to follow his heart...so one night Matt and Toby ask him to come home with them since he was having emotional problems with the event that happened in Atlanta... so they can talk. Well, between the attraction, the booze, and the emotions, the situation becomes more than just talk. Bryce is a natural Dominant and that is something that Matt & Toby crave. So the three fit well together. Bryce struggles with the fact that someone would find out in their jobs and decides to break it off.... When an almost tragedy happens with Matt getting hurt, the three realize they want and need each other, in fact they express their love for one another... Now its time to figure out what they have to do.....This is a beautiful, touching, heartwarming story of 3 wonderful men who make a threesome work. Hot, Hot Sex goes throughout the story with Bryce taking control. Such a turn on!!! Loved this story. I highly recommend this whole series. Must Read!!

The first time I read this (March 2015) I really liked it. So much so that I couldn’t wait to read the next two books when they were released. This time was so very different.

There was a lot I just didn’t like when I read it this time. Everything rubbed me the wrong way. At one point Bryce says, “I feel like such a girl.” Um, excuse me? That pissed me off! The book is also riddled with errors that stuck out like a sore thumb. It all worked together to make this an unpleasant experience.

Once again I am regretting my recent purchase of the last two books based solely on my memory of the first three from so long ago. This is why I usually hate to reread stuff. It ruins that memory and leaves me questioning why I ever liked the book in the first place.

3.5 stars for me, not quite enough to round up to the 4 stars. I loved Toby, and I also liked seeing Mason, Grey, and Jack pop up in this one. But at the same time, I wish we had gotten a break from Bryce's POV and gotten to know more what Toby and Matt were thinking and going through. I think that the inner dialogue of Bryce's constant "I want them but shouldn't do this" got old before the story was even half way done, and I do wish we had known more about Toby and Matt, other than only how Bryce saw them.

Still, this was enjoyable and although this can somewhat stand alone, I definitely recommend starting with the first book in the series - still my favorite trio of men!

This book was just as much fun to read as the other parts of the series, but I thought it was a bit too similar to the other triple.
Ok, it's firefighters now, not police, but it's the same dynamic again, even the same problem with trying to stay partners as a reason not to come out.

But I did like the new characters, Matt and Toby where just really cute and Bryce is a nice, solid guy, not as grumpy and possessive as Gray. I just felt the book lacked some communication. They kinda just fell into the relationship. It was never quite communicated that everyone wanted more until the end, it was just assumed.
But I might expect too much. I know the series is not trying to be realistic, it's just sexy fun. And that is delivered as always, so I'm good with it.

This was a miss for me. I didn't connect with these characters on an emotional level at all. This is told from Bryce's POV. His lengthy inner monologues about how he shouldn't get involved with Toby and Matt were annoying AF, especially after he got involved with Toby and Matt. And since it's told from Bryce's POV, and since all their getting to know you conversations happen off page, I didn't feel like I knew who Toby and Matt were, individually but also what their dynamic was as a couple. Pretty much just porn. I can do PWP, but the MCs have to be likeable, and these MCs are too flat to be likeable.

There really is a PWP book through and through. Lots of insta-love, big misunderstandings, denial, and so many sex scenes. It's not a bad book, there just isn't much of a story. Matt and Toby are kind of adorable and Bryce has that whole bossy alpha male thing going for him, but there is not much of a connection between these three men. Bryce's inner monologue does add some much needed humor to the story.

Let me just say Firemen. Yep that right there catches me real good. Who doesn't love a sexy fireman and this one gives you three. This one has on the hot sexy goodness that the others do only they are putting out fires as well as starting bedroom or living room ones. Another thing I love is that while each of the stories are great they also leave you wanting more. And I do. Keep them coming.
