She was never meant to be chosen.
And the dragon was never meant to survive.

At Drakenfell Academy, dragon riders are forged in fire and loyalty is sworn in blood. Seraphine Thorne has spent her life on the sidelines—born to a powerful magical family yet marked by a humiliating absence of power. While other students take to the skies, she tends fragile eggs in the nursery, invisible and overlooked.

Until the impossible happens.

A rare white dragon hatches—blind, breakable, and sentenced to death by ancient law.

But when Seraphine touches him, something forbidden ignites.

Their bond is wrong.
It defies everything the academy teaches about control and dominance.
And it awakens a magic no one has seen in centuries—one rooted not in strength, but in perception.

Now the academy is watching.

As whispers turn to threats and hidden factions move within castle walls, Seraphine finds herself caught between obedience and rebellion. Her only ally may be Lachlan Ashford—a disciplined rider with a dangerous gift and secrets of his own.

The castle is shifting.
The dragons are stirring.
And remaining unseen may no longer be an option.

Because some bonds were never meant to exist.

And breaking them could unravel everything.

A slow-burn YA fantasy with romance as a subplot, set in a dragon rider academy—perfect for readers who love forbidden bonds, hidden magic, and aching, slow-burn tension.

Book One of The Drakenfell Chronicles.

Beyond Sight🐉

I absolutely loved reading this story…so magical, had me almost thinking I was back reading Harry Potter when it first came out - but this one had something even more special - a rare white dragon, which cinched it for me🙌

Seraphine is new to Drakenfell Academy but feels as though she shouldn’t be there as she has no magic to speak of. But she soon finds her way in The Nursery where dragon hatchlings are, as she seems to soothe them when they are restless. She is also drawn to Lachlan, another student who is in his second year.

Can’t wait to read what happens next especially after that ending😍 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️

A romantasy fantastical read...

This book had me immersed in a structured society shaped by heirachy and unspoken rules. I felt their presence, the danger, and the consequences. I was emotionally charged without having it be too explicit. Although I don't mind reading explicit content. This was one compelling read that was both meaningful and had me there in their fantasy world not wanting to leave after the book ended. Such a great read!

Incredible!

I loved the world-building details and senses. This coming-of-age story from both the MMC and FMC points of view is relatable... with a side of dragons. It was easy to imagine the world before me. Intriguingly detailed.

Beyond Sight completely drew me in from the very first moment and kept me hooked throughout. The opening is strong, the pacing feels just right, and the story quickly develops a pull that makes it hard to put the book down. I truly enjoyed reading it, as the atmosphere and tension are engaging from start to finish. A very satisfying read that shows how captivating a well-told story can be.

I enjoyed reading Beyond Sight. The whole atmosphere felt magical and charming, and the dragon elements are easily the highlight. The bond with the hatchlings feels tender and enchanting, as well as the slow pull between Seraphine and Lachlan.
I did notice a few things that pulled me out of the story at times. Some sentences felt a little choppy, there were some plot holes, and there was repetition throughout, especially when scenes were shown from the both character’s point of view. The overlap made certain moments feel like they were being retold rather than expanded, which slowed the pacing a bit.
Even with those issues, I stayed fully invested. It was an easy and fast read. The ending left me excited for what comes next, and I am definitely looking forward to continuing the series. 4.25 Stars

I really liked Beyond Sight by H.L. Wiley. It hooked me quickly with Seraphine starting at Drakenfell Academy and feeling like she does not quite belong, especially with her older brother already being so well known and respected there. That made her easy to root for. I enjoyed the academy setting, the mix of dragons and magic, and especially the scenes in the dragon nursery, which were some of my favorite parts of the book. You can tell early on that Seraphine has something special about her, even if she does not fully understand it yet. I also liked the friendships she builds and the romance, which felt natural and added to the story without taking over. Overall, it was an enjoyable fantasy read that focuses on character, connection, and growth.

An academy for future dragon riders, full of children wielding magic, brings together a second-year boy, Lachlan, and a first-year girl, Seraphine. While Lachlan hides his magic in fear of what others may think, Seraphine does not believe she has any magic at all. The story, written from each protagonist’s perspective, is deeply atmospheric and quite enchanting. H.L. Wiley interlaces staccato prose from time to time, which can really be beautiful. A bit of a coming-of-age story, it touches on issues of identity and what it means to really be seen. I would recommend giving it a try, and I personally look forward to reading the second book.

Such a magical story. Tender and powerful at the same time. It gripped my attention from the beginning and now I can’t stop till I read the series through the end! The story is depicted very thoroughly, like a masterpiece drawing, so you can easily imagine everything that is happening in the book. Highly recommend!
