Since when did the procedure for giving someone a ticket for running a stop sign include a very hands-on pat-down against the hood of my car, not even giving me a chance to see his face? I swear, cop or not he's getting very close to getting Tasered; my hand was mere inches from the Taser in my open purse. But despite the high inappropriateness of his pat-down there was something very familiar about the way he was touching me - even the scent of his cologne triggered familiarity.
I never dreamed when the inappropriate, yet highly erotic frisking was over that I'd be standing face to face with my former high school sweetheart, town troublemaker and love of my life Devon Land. But there he was with a cocky smirk, looking sexier than I remembered and thoroughly enjoying my surprise.
One big mistake cost me the upscale life in New York I'd grown to love, forcing me to return home to Alabama. I swore I'd never move back to my small town, I'd outgrown it, but with a temptation like Devon intent on reminding me of the life I'd once left behind its becoming a challenge to leave a second time.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author for the express purpose of an honest review. The rating and opinions of this book are mine.
I loved this Terry Towers novella!! I am a newer fan of Terry's and am increasingly reading more of her work! Her stories are wonderful whether they are short or long and this one is no exception.
I loved Devon and Violet, aka V! I love the whole premise of second chance love and eagerly read through their story. Violet returns home from New York, after years away at school and then work. She finds out her current boss and boyfriend, lied about being married when his wife walks in on a compromising situation, he then fires Violet! When she is just about home, she's pulled over by the police & frisked. Something about the cop is familiar. His voice and cologne... she realizes it's her old boyfriend Devon. He works out a deal with her and instead of a ticket he asks for a dinner- with an ulterior motive. He wants to know what was the real reason she left town 7 years ago and he intends to find out. What they both find is that they feel exactly the same attraction as years ago and neither can fight it. You have to read this to find out that reason and what Devon does after she tells him why she left! What happens when the ex shows up begging Violet to come back to him? Although it is a novella and a short story, the characters were strong and the storyline complete. It didn't feel rushed and I was left with a very satisfying ending! I loved it!!
First off, I was honored, yet again, from this gracious author with an ARC copy of this book. OK, so I started this earlier this morning and just finished!!!! I have been a fan of Terry Towers for a while now and with every new book she puts out, I become an even bigger fan. Her stories are not just sexy reads (Oh yes, they are so sexy), but they are also quick reads. I love the storylines and they are just light and fun to read!!!!! Yes, some of her books are short reads (which I LOVE) but I also have to add that I love a short read as much as a longer read because it gives me that breath of fresh air...or rather a nice cleansing of my mind in between the more angsty/drama filled reads, including duets and trilogies, her books are the perfect solution...the perfect mind cleanse:)
Oh gosh did I LOVE both Devon and Violet:) Wow, what an amazing quick story about these 2......Loved, Loved, Loved it!!!!
Congrats to terry Towers on yet another Home Run for me:) Love this author and continue to LOVE her books:) Terry Towers just continues to get better and better!!!!!!!!!! I am a fan of hers for life:)
Thoughts: This is my first book by this author, but when I read the blurb for this book, I just had to read it! It was cute little story that reminded me a little bit of the movie Sweet Home Alabama as I was reading it – in fact, I kept adding the little Southern ‘twang’ that Reese Witherspoon used for the character to Violet. Of course, there are differences – Violet, for example, left New York because her boss wound up being a married man who (guess what?) really wasn’t getting a divorce from his wife like he said he was. I know, shocking right? Needless to say, that puts an end to the relationship and the job, forcing her back home – temporarily at least. In the end, can her old love Devon convince her that back home is exactly where she has always belonged? Again, this was a cute book, and only novella length so it really just gave you a taste of what this author is capable of. To be honest though, after the ‘pat-down’ that drew you into the book, everything else is a little tame and 'meh' in comparison…;) Rate: B Review by: Sarah http://www.thebookreadinggals.com
Hot, hot, hot and heart crushing!!! This short read is a flower bomb of emotions!!! Very well written, with an interesting story full of plot and twists, you will feel every emotions as if you were living it yourself!!! Simply to die for, the main characters will force you to create a bond and this from the first pages!!!! There is nothing like a lost love and especially the first one.... Devon and Violet's story will melt your heart, clench your stomach, and make you believe in butterflies again. I do advise to read it with a bowl of ice cubes though, because of the sizzling heat, a Terry Towers heat, so red red hot!!!!! Failure to stop has to be in my top 10 of my all time short stories, even if i never wanted it to end....So like usual for the wonderful talent of Terry Towers: Two Thumbs Up High In The Air!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!
Good novella, the story was fun to read, it was upbeat & lighthearted even though it had a little sadness in it. Violet is returning home after years away going to school & working in NewYork. After finding out that her boss and boyfriend lied to her about being married he also fires her. As she nears home she's pulled over by the police & frisked. Realizing the cop sounds & smells familiar she realizes it's her old boyfriend Devon. Instead of a ticket he takes her for a picnic, with the ulterior motive......find out why she left him 7yrs ago. The attraction is still there and they can't deny it. Can they have the dream of their past? What happens when her ex comes looking for her? What happens when Devon finds out why they really broke up?
This was a cute second chance story. Violet is returning to her hometown for the first time since leaving abruptly at the end of her senior year. She and Devon had been inseparable growing up, and he thought they'd live out their dreams after high school, but when Violet took off, he was really confused. Now that she's back, he's determined to find out why she left like she did. He starts off trying to be just friends with her this time, but their chemistry doesn't allow that for very long. It was nice to see him resolve their problem (why she left the first time) so they could be happy this time around.
When his hands reached the sides of her breasts and paused there her breath hitched and her hand inched its way to the Taser. “Excuse me, but this is highly inappropriate. I’d appreciate it if you took your hands off me, gave me my ticket for whatever you think I did to help fill your quota and I’ll be on my way.” He leaned into her, his lips grazing her earlobe. “Well shit Violet, you had no problem with me touching you prom night.” He chuckled again, taking a step back. Prom night? It felt like her heart stopped for a second as memories of prom came rushing back to her. He couldn’t be… She twirled around, her mouth dropping open. But, it was. “Devon Land!” Placing his hands on his hips, a roar of laughter erupted from him. “Ohmygod! You asshole.” Grabbing her purse she gave him a whack on the shoulder with it. “You ass! I thought you were some sort of pervert or kidnapper!” She whacked him a couple more times. “Ass!”
She’d wondered so many times how things would be different had she not been forced to break up with him. Would she have stayed and they’d gotten married and had kids by now? As a teenager, she’d fantasized about it. The little farmhouse, some chickens, maybe some cattle and a couple of horses. It would have been a quaint, but perfect life that she’d envisioned. In fact, she’d been certain he was going to propose on prom night, but he hadn’t.
“Does your mother know? She made it sound like you were on a brief visit.” She shook her head. “Nope and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t say anything.” “Sure. Well, what happened?” He chuckled. “Sleep with the boss or something?” Her face paled and he wished he could take back his words and mentally kicked himself for saying something so stupid. He just didn’t expect his joke to be on point. “I’m sorry. I…” “No, it’s all right.” She downed the second glass of wine and motioned for another refill. “There’s not much to tell. It was an accident.” He chuckled softly, an uneasy sound. “An accident? You tripped at the office and just fell onto his cock? I don’t follow.” She stared at him a minute and began laughing. “No, I didn’t fall onto his cock. I mean, I thought he was separated and in the process of a divorce; that’s what he told me. Apparently somewhere along the line they got back together, his wife found out about us and me about her, he fired me.” She shrugged. “Not that I’d have continued working there anyhow, but still…”
She knew she needed to stop this, but he felt so good, so familiar. After having her heart and pride get stomped on by Logan, being in Devon’s arms felt so, so good – and right. This was Devon, he’d never hurt her, he’d never deceive her. Devon had always been there for her and she’d blown it, hurting them both in the process.
Would she think it pathetic that he still kept those dreams? Would she think he hadn’t moved on? Though in truth, a part of him never did. It may have been easy for her to move on, but for him – not so much. She’d been the one and only woman he’d ever loved or wanted to marry. His first and only love, it wasn’t something he was willing to forget even if he could. As pathetic as it was she was the standard to whom every woman he dated was compared – and none ever lived up to his memories of Violet Phillips.
“You made the decision for both of us, V!” “I sacrificed for what I thought was right.” Walking over to him she poked him in the chest. “I left the life I planned on sharing with you because I didn’t think I had a choice, you think that was easy for me? Did you think it was easy for me when my mother told me you were with someone and happy, without me? That you’d moved on? I promise you, it wasn’t. I hurt every time I thought of you with someone else. I hurt every time I allowed myself to think of what could have been.” I need to get out of here… She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes again. It had already been a stressful week, she didn’t need this additional pain. Not over something that was ancient history.
She sniffed, swiping at the tears with the back of her hand as if disgusted with herself for showing emotion. She motioned to her face, where a couple of streaks of mascara had been left in the wake of the tears. “It’s been a trying few days. It’s just overwhelming right now.” He stopped denying himself. It was pointless. Releasing his grasp on the door, he pulled her into his arms. She slid her arms around his back and held tight, fisting the back of his shirt. She fit so damned well against him, the top of her head settling under his chin. She was meant for him, perfect for him in every way. And she’d been stolen away.
“Look, he had a rough time when you left the first time. So how about you do him a favour and just go back to New York now? I was here with him while he nearly drank himself to death and got in so many fights it’s a damned good thing he’s tough or he’d have been killed. I was there at the academy as we trained to be cops, pushing him to get you out of his head and move on with his life.” “You know what, Will? It’s none of your damned business. So either give me my ticket or get away from the car because I’m in a hurry.”
This is a second chance love story, which I adore reading second chance, so I loved that aspect, but I did want more character development and romantic development between the characters. The romance is sweet, the characters are likable, and I liked the small town setting. Violet has returned home after some surprising information comes out about the guy she's been "dating", so she ends up going back to her small hometown to get her head back on straight. When she arrives home, she runs into her high school boyfriend, Devon, they both are excited to see the other, but some past and present hurts may get in the way of them starting a new relationship. These 2 loved each other deeply when they were younger, and I enjoyed the connection between the two. Devon is such a sweetie! I was so sad for him! Some devious deeds caused problems for Devon and Violet in the past and present, so these two need to work through some painful situations if they are going to try to be in a relationship again, which I enjoyed reading how that would play out, and I would've actually have loved for there to be more angst with this situation, but this book is fairly short, so it didn't quite go into that enough. I also would've liked for there to be a bit more in the ending. Overall, this book is an interesting read, and I'd recommend it! I listened to the audio version of this story, and the narrator did a great job! Fun little accent!
Second chance romances are definitely one of my guilty pleasures and Terry Towers did not disappoint with this one. The chemistry between Violet and Devon can be felt even before you know Devon is her high school sweetheart. The twist that broke the couple up originally is not so much shocking, but appalling knowing how it hurt the two involved. The reconciliation and disposal of Violet's ex boss is very satisfying, the book being both a fun and hot listen!
Sarah Puckett does an amazing job with the Alabama accent. I loved her cadence as well as the ability t separate the characters. Always good when it is easy to tell who is speaking without question. Her voice is pleasant and very easy to listen to.
I got this story as a bonus in "The Brothers Next Door". I loved it. It gave you the warm loving feeling and a connection to the characters. I have read other books by this author and loved them. It's a story I would read again. Overview. Violet lived in NY city and was caught with the boss. So she went back home to Alabama to visit her mom and figure out what she was going to do with her life. That is until she was pulled over by the cops. A quick pat down sends red flags up her spine, that is until Devon revivals who he really is, her high school sweetheart. Devon wants to know the truth as to why Violet up and left him for no reason 7 years ago. But the two still feel the heat. But the truth must come out about their past. But will their new love prevail?
I really like this book! I normally have a hard time getting invested in shorter stories however i loved this one. I felt like it was written to not just be a buildup to one good scene at the end. It felt more like a full length novel (just shorter) than most the other short stories that come across my account. No complaints at all~
Great narration as always! Sarah Puckett's work is amazing. I have several of her works and have loved them all.
I read this as a bonus book from The Brothers Next Door. It is a quick, fun, sexy read. Devon was fun and sexy. I loved his easy going banter with Violet. Kind of getting tired of the "only hearing part of a conversation and running off" scene from books. But still liked it.
if your looking for s heart warming, uncomplicated story, this one is for you.
. Compliments to the author for making the situations realistic enough that It felt as if somewhere out there the story is happening.
I had no problem with V and Devon, they're perfect just the way they are. too perfect now that theyve grown up. They're too hot. Of course it was steamy.
I'm having problems writing a proper review cause, I loved the story and how it ended but i dont know how to say more without spoiling the story. It should have had more details to it, the boss cheating and firing is kind of a sloppy Idea for me.
And to the author, why rush? Why are you so bent on ending this story, V and Devon are such amazing characters that deserve more pages! Swear! I love it!
would I recommend this? if you're looking for a quick read and heartwarming, definitely! If your looking for a novel with twist and turns, please stay away!
Oh mrs Terry, what are you doing to me? Never stop sending me your amazing books! Like ever!
I received this ARC in exchange of my honest opinion and as usual, I loved it! I like the way Terry writes, she's very talented and every story is special in its way. Some are funny, some are more dark, but in the end you get your happy ending and a good love story.
And this one was exactly as I expected. No cliff hangers, it's a stand alone book and if you are searching for a funny, sexy, intense love story - than you can stop searching :) You found it!
A big thank you to the author Terry Towers, for sending me a copy to review!! Failure to Stop was a sweet novella...Devon and Violet were high school sweethearts who thought their happily ever after included each other...Violet ended up in New York and Devon stayed in the small town in which they grew up in...years past and Violet comes home...the secrets that are uncovered as to why Violet left are sad...will the love they felt for each other years ago be rekindled...let's just say the book was sweet, the sex in it was hot and it is worth picking it up to read!!!
Failure to Stop by Terry Towers was given to me by Ms Towers as a contest prize. It is a contemporary romance novella and my first book by Terry Towers. Failure to Stop is a short, HOT story that is fun to read. The characters are likable and the situations in the story are realistic. I liked this novella, I will recommend it to others and will definitely take a look at other works by this author. Great Job Ms Towers!
I really liked this short story. It could have been longer and went more into detail but that is just my opinion. Now about the book. Seven years ago Violet Phillips had everything. A man (Devon Land) that loved her, dreams/plans for their future. That future was all taken from them by his mother blackmailing her so she left. Now she is back from New York after her boss lied & fired her. Will they get a second chance or will Violet run again?
I adored the second chance love story. I felt like there was a completely different vibe than other Towers books and I loved it. The characters are warm and uncomplicated which makes their love more enduring. The passion is hot and feeling of warmth flows through you when Devon walks in the room. V is safe, adored, appreciated, and loved. It's a HEA for them and me!!!!
This is a second chance at love. Seven years before she left him without any reason. Now she is back. Her life in the big city in ruins. She found out that she was "the other woman" to her boss. Who was still married. So he lied. Now she is back home to regroup. Who does she run into? But the one who's heart she broke when she left. Will the secrets of why she left so sudden come out? Will they ever have that dream that they shared? Will look at more books by Terry Towers.
Violet left town when she was 18. Devon was in love with her but she left for bigger better things. He always wondered why. She came back to town and he Sonoma police officer. He pulls her over. Showdowns realize who he is until he comments some things from the past. He wants to find out the truth to why she left. They have their fun times and the truth finally comes out. This is an awesome love story with all the ups and downs.
let me start by saying the only reason I am giving this 4 stars is bc I WANTED MORE!!!! Loved this book. it is a really good read, was sad to see it come to an end. Loved the characters. would have liked to see a confrontation between violet and Logan's mom. that would have been interesting. really great book though!!
The characters were well developed, the story was a good one, however a little cliche, and the sex scenes were good. The book could really use a good editing. There were some places where I had to make my own conclusions as to what was exactly being said, but those were few. Overall, good read. Recommended!
This was a fun quick read. Devon and Violet are good characters that have a past together which sets the story up. It's really well done and you can see the chemistry and feelings they both still have and so are engaged from the beginning and want them to find their happy ending. The sex is explicit and fairly frequent. I enjoyed the story.
OMG! That was such a great book! I love stories about second chances. Violet goes home and gets a second chance with her high school sweetheart and partner in crime. It is one HOT read!! Loved it!!
I do so love a coming home story, and this one really delivers. In less than 200 pages this little novella made me laugh out loud and darn near cry, and was hotter than heck in between. I highly recommend it.
The story in this book is terrific, definitely 5 stars. But the typographical errors really detracted from reading it so I had to knock my rating down because it made it hard to read. But the story is definitely worth reading.
