Tattoo artist, Derek Hawkins knows the rules: One night a month. No last names. No promises.
Olivia Madison has her own rules: Don’t fall in love. No commitment. Never tell Derek the truth.
When their worlds crash into each other however, Derek and Olivia will have to face what they fought to ignore as well as the connection they tried to forget.

There are days when I find myself so incredibly lucky that I discovered the indie community of authors because sometimes, that`s when you find the biggest pearl in the smallest of clams – yeah, yeah, I know, horrible, horrible analogy, but I think you get what I mean by now. That`s how I discovered Carrie Ann Ryan and her books.
I started with the Montgomery Ink series and worked my way through her library, hoping that I managed to read the big majority of them, and I also saw when she was added to the 1001 Dark Nights series lineup and was excited to see what else this author would deliver from there. And boy did she ever deliver, especially with the newest addition in the Montgomery series with Inked Nights.
While I really do love her full length novels, I especially enjoy how she takes her novella and makes them even hotter, and thus, unforgettable. So yeah, while the book is shorter, it doesn`t feel as such. The pace is a bit quicker, but in my mind, we get to the fun parts faster, which I really like. These characters have known each other for years, and I enjoyed the fact that they were seeing one another once a month before finally realizing just how much they`ve known each other and how.
I really enjoyed this story and can`t wait to find out which story we`re getting next since I know that no matter what we`re getting, it`s the story that will get me wanting so much more from this author in the future.
I liked the book with the exception of one little thing. Olivia's secret. When the revelation came, I thought it would have more impact on me as the reader. Instead, when I read it I was like, Is this it? I don't get why there was so much fuss about it. It obviously had more impact on the characters, but I feel like they were overreacting a tiny bit.
The rest of the book was great though and I had a great time reading it. I woke up at 5 am and I couldn't go back to sleep so I began reading this book. I slept like a baby again, after I finished the book. It was everything I was expecting from a novella and in this case, we didn't have insta-love or something similar so it was even better. It's a good addition to the series and it made me want to start reading the series once again.
If you are looking for a light, quick and easy read this is your book. It had everything I could have wanted and the people who are familiar with the series will be delighted to see some of the characters they already know and love. If you haven't read another book in the series yet, you can safely read this one, since it's a completely stand-alone story.
This story was short but oh so good! I love the Montgomery Ink series and this was a great addition. I certainly experienced a wide range of emotions with this story. I laughed and cried. It certainly packed quite the punch! The steamrolling between Derek and Olivia was off the charts. I loved catching up with old friends.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
Inked Nights is a novella from the Montgomery Ink series by Carrie Ann Ryan. This particular book focuses on Derek and his love interest Olivia. These two have had a "thing" for quite a while but it's no names, no getting to know you, nothing but a night of sex.
Until that changed. This novella will have you learn of their pasts and their future. This particular book in the series is probably the one with the least amount of drama. I think you'll enjoy this quick read and get to know two great characters from this series!
Hot stuff! Right from the beginning, the pages are on fire, which leaves you completely unprepared for the emotional wallop heading your way. As always, the authour has a perfect blend of sexy times and emotional moments, in this story though, she outdid herself. This was perfect, and I couldn't pull away until I saw how it all came together. Olivia and Derek had been through so much, and that they finally found happiness with each other, that was karma at work. Loved the characters, loved the book!
Montgomery Ink #8.5, As with the other 1001 Dark Night novellas this can be read as a stand alone. One night a month for the last four years Derek and Olivia have been meeting at a hotel for one night of unbridled passion, no names they only know each other as D and O, no promises aside from them meeting that one night. It all changed when Derek broke the rules he told her his name. It was then Olivia realized who he was, and remembered him and now nothing will ever be the same again. As soon as Derek said his name he knew he had gotten in to deep with her, he realized he started to want more then one night, but something spooked Olivia and now he may never see her again. But it's a small world and Olivia just happens to be his bosses neighbor.
Derek and Olivia both carry a lot of guilt with them, Olivia especially. I love all this, the whole Montgomery Universe, characters can be so broken and damaged but yet they still find their way and get the HEA they deserve. Derek and Olivia together are smokin' hot. Right off the bat these two the chemistry is off the charts and I loved seeing Olivia and Derek hot and heavy but I also loved seeing them mend the past together and start all over, the epilogue was especially a nice touch.
Overall, it's another great story from Carrie Ann Ryan. Passions always run hot in her books and this one is no different, she also brings out the best in angst. I always manage to make room in my schedule to read Carrie Ann Ryan's books because I know they will be worth it.
Carrie Ann Ryan has done it again! I have to say that she is one of my favorite authors. Inked Nights is another addition to already a great collection of novels Ryan has written. I have read all her main books in the Montgomery Ink series, so I always love reading the extra novellas she writes for each of her series. It gives me an extra insight into the other characters that appear in the main books.
Inked Nights is a novella that features Derek, one of the tattoo artists in Montgomery Ink. He has met a woman once a month for the past four years, but they don’t know each others names or anything personal. But all their secrets are about to come to light. The novella is very steamy and full of angst. I enjoyed reading it; though I do enjoy the full length novels more. Inked Nights is a short, quick read that will keep you reading trying to figure out their secrets. Hope you give this book a try!
This is a short novella in the Montgomery Ink world. Derek works for Maya and Austin and the original Montgomery Ink location. They make a brief appearance but most of the story is between Derek and Olivia.
For four years, D and O have met once a month for a no strings night of passion. It's obvious from the start that they mean more to each other than they let on. Everything may stay the same until Olivia finally hears Derek's name and it dawns on her who he is and what he was to her in the past.
There is a bit of angst and some soul searching that happens. Ultimately, Olivia tells the truth and it heals them both. Loved the epilogue the best of the whole novella! Great way to wrap up the story!
Impressive! Normally, I am not a fan of novellas because I love character and story development. However, if you've read the Carrie Ann's Montgomery series, you already know many of the characters - so halfway there (smart author!). Even if you haven't read the Montgomery series (which you should!), you will not be lost. The two main characters, Derek and Olivia, have a past. This story is filled with emotional angst! The two know each other from childhood, shared a tragedy, were separated, then met later in life without realizing who they were to each other. Talk about a sucker punch! Their past has to have closure before they can move on with their future. Their chemistry is hot, but their past really pulls at the heart strings. I really enjoyed this read and like I mentioned before, I'm using not a fan of novellas. So glad to be proved wrong here!
This one really got to me, in ways that I didn't expect. I liked Olivia and Derek together, thought their long relationship odd, but seemed to work for them. However once reality seeped in things changed. I wasn't sure they would be able to survive it, but they needed to, they needed each other. I was so happy they were able to talk about things and remember the good. It made the last scene so great and full circle!
This was touching. I wasn't really expecting their back story so it was a pleasant surprise and helped the story be more about their meeting once a month for sexy times. I find it hard to believe that they were able to keep things up for so long (4 years!) without really knowing who the other was but, I was able to suspend belief a bit.
Where do I even begin? I went into this thinking it would be light, it's a novella so nothing heavy was going to happen......well, I was wrong! Thankfully it was something that happened way in the past and although it brought pain when thinking about it, it was something that could be dealt with.
Derek and Olivia shared a painful past, but Olivia’s emotional obstacles kind of wore me out before the relationship could really take off. Once I got over my initial frustration, I ended up liking them together more then I thought I would.
Derek Hawkins and Olivia Madison have a good thing going. Their once-a-month anonymous rendezvous works for them, even if they're both starting to feel a little starry-eyed over one another. When Olivia calls things off, Derek is blindsided and…sad. After 4 years, it cut him deeper than anticipated. But all is not lost, especially when he finds out she's his buddy's neighbor. Olivia knew better than to get too involved with Derek, and she should have told him the truth when she first realized who he was, but now it's time to come clean. Will Derek and Olivia be able to make it past the truth, or will they be over before they even really get started?
INKED NIGHTS is a novella in the Montgomery Ink series, and also a stand-alone addition to the innovative and fun 1001 Dark Nights series featuring sensual and erotic stories by a variety of popular authors inspired by the classic The Arabian Nights tale.
I'm a huge fan of Ms. Ryan, and I love her Montgomery Ink series, but INKED NIGHTS just didn't do it for me. I think it was the skewed view of Derek and Olivia's role in their shared tragedy and the subsequent unnecessary drama. We don't really get enough of them as a couple in this book, so couldn't really get a good feel for whether I dug them together or not, and therefore couldn't connect with them or their story like I usually do with Ms. Ryan's work. That said, it was nice to finally get Derek's mysterious story, and fans of this series will enjoy catching up with the Montgomery's.
Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; no violence/murder.
Olivia a juste pulvérisé mon coeur.
Four years of once-a-month carefree encounters come crashing to a halt with the discovery of a name, and the unexpected connection surrounding that name, in this engaging novella. As readers are once again brought into the world of the close-knit Montgomery family emotions are boldly bared with the past making a profound affect on the future. From the first page to the last readers will be left hanging in the balance, waiting for this conflicted couple to be brave enough to put their hearts on the line to reach HEA.
Derek’s become addicted to his monthly encounters with the woman he knows only as O, but lately he’s been wanting more. Where once their short time together left him satisfied, he’s now left feeling frustrated with longing. With all his friends and co-workers pairing off, seeing the Montgomery’s happy and complete with their significant others, has him wanting that for himself and making the decision to change the rules by giving O his name. It’s a moment that changes everything by opening up their painful pasts and reminding them of a connection that time had erased. With their future HEAs left in doubt, Derek will have to stand up for what his heart wants and convince O that their future is more important than the past in this quick yet satisfying read. Derek’s an appealing hero, what little bits we see of him as this novella doesn’t dig too deeply into either of their lives. He’s a devoted son carrying a lot of guilt while dealing with his mother’s unending grief which leaves little time for his own happiness. His encounters with O were a respite from it all and he soon wants the feelings she engenders in him for more than just one night and is willing to sacrifice everything to claim her wholeheartedly. His bold actions left me cheering, as did his quick turn-around from her surprising reveal to once again put his heart in her hands. He’s a delicious hero, sexy in his looks and sweet with his words, and he’s was a definite highlight of this story.
Four years ago Olivia’s unpleasant blind date ended with her drinking alone in a hotel bar. That moment changed everything though as it introduced her to a burly, sexy, tattooed man known as D. Their satisfying and unforgettable night together set them on a path of once-a-month encounters that started out casual but have slowly become more profound in the feelings both of them are left with in the morning. When D unexpectedly changes the rules, their future is left in doubt as her painful past collides with his to taint what they have now and what they could have in the future. Readers will be left hanging too as both of them work through the painful truth to decide if they can have a future beyond their once-a-month interludes. Olivia’s a likable heroine who lives a solitary life revolving around books. She’s formed few connections as a childhood tragedy left her heart broken and unwilling to open herself up to more pain. Being with Derek was the one time she opened up her heart to someone else and it was a freeing sight to see full of happiness and sensuality. Being with Derek also brings her into the warm embrace of the Montgomery family, gives her the chance to form more connections outside of the imaginative world of books she escaped to. On a whole I liked Olivia and was rooting for her to put aside her unnecessary childhood guilt to make a HEA of her own.
This was a quick read, a satisfying one full of heart with a nice dab of sexiness. The issue that arose between them was a bit overblown though, especially in Olivia’s mind, but the issue was thankfully resolved quickly in a way that warmed my heart courtesy of the delicious hero. The main couple was immensely likable with interactions full of heartfelt banter as well as unrelenting sensuality whenever they were next to each other and I was rooting for them every step of the way. They were a seamless addition to the Montgomery family and I enjoyed seeing the familial vibe surrounding all these characters to make this an enjoyable addition to this long-running series. It’s a tale that ultimately made for an afternoon full of delights that I recommend to fans of Ms. Ryan as well as those those looking for a story with a nice bit of substance and style.
One night a month. No last names … or firsts for that matter. No promises.
Inked Nights Kindle Loc. 303 of 1640
And so one single, hot, tatted guy named Derek Hawkins and one single, equally tatted, gorgeous woman, Olivia Madison, meet under those rules for a night of sex … which must be pretty incredible sex because this arrangement has been going on for four years!
Yes, you read that correctly—for four years, “D” and “O” have been getting it on a monthly basis without actually knowing each others’ first names or anything else tied to their identity. (Considering that Derek makes his living as a tattoo artist at Montgomery Ink, and both of these lovelies are heavily inked, it was at this point that yours truly raised her eyebrow and, TBH, it stayed that way for much of this story.)
Derek wants to get to know the mysterious woman “O” and, when next they meet up, he reveals his name to Olivia. Upon hearing Derek’s identity, Olivia has an epiphany and it’s a sad one. She rejects Derek on the spot, ending their four-year arrangement. A confused Derek confides his heartache to a co-worker, sharing a phone pic of the mysterious “O”. The co-worker recognizes Olivia’s face immediately (and not because of her ink). Before one can say Inked Nights, Derek is at Olivia’s door seeking answers — answers that reveal the nightmarish demons that to this day haunt them both.
Carrie Ann Ryan’s Inked Nights is the latest offering from the folks at 1001 Dark Nights and book 8.5 in author Ryan’s excellent Montgomery Ink series.
A novella, Inked Nights is a very quick read, and perfect for those who need a Montgomery Ink fix. You do not have to be familiar with the series to enjoy this story, but be prepared for its brevity, as well as some plot whiplash. These characters would have been better served in a complete novel — their issues were such that it would have made a lovely, angsty story but as it is (and here I apologize because to say more would be giving away the entire story), I found Inked Nights to be, even for a novella, hurried.
Derek Hawkins, a tattoo artist at Montgomery Ink whom we've first met in DELICATE INK and kept making appearances through out the Montgomery Ink series. He had his rules when it came to women, one night a month, no last names and no promises. Well that's the deal he made with O.
Olivia Madison made a deal with the gorgeous stranger D. But what the latter didn't know was she had her own set of rules. Don't fall in love, no commitment and never tell D the truth.
She knew who Derek was cause he was the boy she'd lost her heart to at a tender age. The one she never expected to see again and the one she knew she shouldn't be with. So she called their arrangement off which didn't sit well with Derek.
They never intended to fall for one another again during their affair was over but they did. Derek told his co-workers who also happened to be his friends about O. And fate had plans for him and his mystery woman.
Turned they both shared a painful past, one that left both of them blaming themselves. When they put all their on the table, they realized that they've broken their own rules years ago.
It was a delightful treat to catch up with old friends and meeting new ones. Loved how the Montgomery clan was supportive of Derek and Olivia. In the end they got their HEA.
INKED NIGHTS is a MONTGOMERY INK novella by Carrie Ann Ryan. What an emotional, exhilarating and beautiful ride. Magnificent job by Carrie Ann Ryan. Two thumbs up!
****I received this book without any obligation to review.****

INKED NIGHTS is book 8.5 in the Montgomery Ink series and is also part of the 1001 Dark Nights line. Although there's recurring characters throughout, the story can standalone!
Olivia and Derek have spent the last four years meeting for a single night a month of just sex. No full names, no strings, no expectations. One night, it becomes clear that Olivia and Derek are craving more. But when they learn that they're connected by their painful pasts, their relationship quickly falls apart. Can they look past the sorrow and embrace a future together?
Like most of the stories in the 1001 Dark Nights series, this is a short but sexy novella. And let me tell y'all, this one starts off H.O.T! But I honestly wasn't expecting the twist that Carrie Ann Ryan threw in there. The thread that tied Derek to Olivia was both sad and strangely sweet. The angst isn't overwhelming but there's enough drama to keep you turning the pages.
I love the male cast of characters that Ms. Ryan writes about because they're always so damn sexy and charming! Derek totally embodied that signature style. He was...well...dreamy! Thoughtful and caring. Olivia may not have had a lot of close friends but she was a good hearted, strong person and her character showed that. They turned out to be the perfect compliment together. I also really enjoyed seeing some of the Montgomery clan again.
If you're looking for a steamy afternoon read with awesome characters, this one will be perfect for you. Told from dual POVs with a happy ever after. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
I have to say - the premise of Inked Nights absolutely fascinated me. A man and a woman meet at the same hotel one night every month and share a hot night before going their separate ways again the next morning, all while not knowing a single thing about the other, including their names. FOR FOUR YEARS.
I don't know if i could do that, but for Derek and Olivia, this arrangement totally works. Until it doesn't anymore. Both of them start to want more, but when Derek blurts out his real name, Olivia realizes that she knows him from her childhood, and that terrifies her. She tries to cut all ties with the man she had come to know as 'D'. But, as we all know, the world is a small place, and Derek and Olivia realize that they have something else in common besides a shared childhood - The Montgomery family.
I loved how Inked Nights felt like a full-length story, even though it was just a novella. I also loved how Carrie Ann Ryan found a great way to bring us back in the Montgomery Ink world again. Seeing some of my favorite characters from books earlier in the series was a balm to my soul.
As for Derek and Olivia, they have a lot of past hurts to work through before they can see their way to their much-deserved HEA. At least they know they are totally compatible in the bedroom already. They've been perfecting that art for four years. And now, they have the chance to move forward with both eyes open, as long as they can both get over their commitment issues.
This was a great novella with lots of heart and heat that I have come to expect from Carrie Ann Ryan.
Four years ago, Derek and Olivia agree to one night a month with no names, just first initials; no exchange of personal information; meet at a hotel and share a night of smoking hot passion that is the best that either one has ever had. Derek makes the mistake of telling O his name during their night together, and Olivia realizes D is the boy she has loved since she was a little girl. Olivia tells Derek she can no longer see him. Olivia fears if Derek finds out who she really is that he will leave her anyway. Derek is a tattoo artist at Montgomery Ink and is always their for his friends with advice or a laugh. Olivia is a free lance editor who has always held herself apart from others and holds fast to two rules; never fall in love and no commitments. Derek realizes he wants more than one night a month from Olivia, and he opens up to his friends about Olivia. Derek is surprised to learn that Austin and Sierra are Olivia's neighbors. Will Olivia push Derek away or take a chance on love? How will Derek react when he learns who Olivia really is? Can Olivia get past the guilt she harbors from a tragic accident that changed her and Derek's lives when they were children? Can Derek and Olivia overcome their tragic past and find their happily ever after? Inked Nights by Carrie Ann Ryan is a fantastic story with characters the reader can relate to. Inked Nights will take the reader on a ride through love, laughter, tragedy and heartache. Highly recommend getting Inked Nights by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book
One night a month they get together, no names just first initials, no info about each other of any kind they meet at a hotel and have the hottest night either have ever had. For D and O this is the longest relationship either has ever had. For four years they’ve been doing this until now, this last night changed everything. Wowie, wow, wow!!! Talk about HOT!!!! Ryan has once again brought us into her world of Montgomery Ink and I love it!!! Derek, aka D, is so hot I mean come on he’s a inked, bearded, yummy artist. Olivia, aka O, is a normally quiet woman who edits books for a living. They love their monthly evenings until Derek asks Olivia to call him by his name. It’s then that her past comes back to haunt her and she chooses to never see him again so that she doesn’t hurt him. I really can’t get over that Derek and Olivia have such a strong connection, it’s like they were made for each other or they are each other’s reward for the pain. They have such a connection that she lives next to Austin and Sierra, Austin owns Montgomery Ink where Derek is a Tattoo artist. It’s a crazy circle within a circle that makes for a awesome story!! So, come join the crew at Montgomery Ink and learn all about the circle within a circle that is Derek and Olivia. You cant go wrong with a lovely lady and her yummy tattooed, bearded man.
Olivia Madison does the same thing once a month. Our author did a great job in creating Olivia. You can almost feel her tension, her apprehension and her anguish about something she couldn’t control. Derek Hawkins is angry about the situation. Our author does a great job in showing his frustration, his hatred over something from his past, and the realization that there comes a time where you just have to let things go.
This is one of the more emotional stories. You may not need a tissue at the beginning of this story – a fan maybe. But it may not hurt to keep them handy because at a certain point you might. Olivia has a memory that never goes away. I know how hard that is because I went through something similar – not exact but similar.
This is not one where you will get immersed into the Montgomery Ink series. Derek is one of their employees. Being a novella, you don’t mind that because the author has created plenty of heat between her main characters. If you’ve not read any of the series, this may have you curious as to what it may be about. And you just may find that Derek made an appearance in a previous book. For me, it’s a reminder that I have a lot to catch up on. You certainly don’t need the other books to enjoy this one but if you’re one that follows this author it’s one you’ll want to add to your library.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This book just goes to show, you don't really know what is going on in someone's life, unless they want you to know. Derek has always been a funny side character. Always one to give advice, give a funny one liner, make someone laugh. But in this story, we find out that there is so much more to him, so much he is hiding, hurt that he is keeping to himself.
Olivia has a good life, but a traumatic past, that keeps her from being everything she could be. She takes the safe road, always holding back part of herself, trying to keep from getting hurt. What started out as something simple, is getting complicated, and she doesn't know what to do about it.
When the past meets the present, and simple becomes complicated, everything starts to fall apart. Derek and Olivia have to step outside of their comfort zone, either giving up something that could be amazing, or deciding to grab on and not let go.
There were times, I didn't think a HEA was possible, given the circumstances of their relationship, and the events of the past. With every twist and turn, I was constantly surprised and amazed at how great they were together. I was cheering for them, and hoping they could find a way to be together. I love all of the Montgomery characters, and am glad that Derek has found his place!
Derek Hawkins and Olivia Madison have spent four years meeting once a month, known only to each other by their first initial. No other information is allowed. Everything seems just fine until D doesn't want to be D anymore, he wants to be Derek and he wants to share his growing feelings for O. Olivia's past just won't let her go, won't let her fall for Derek, won't let her tell him the truth.
Wow! If you have read any of author Carrie Ann Ryan's Montgomery you have to love this clan. I was hoping for Derek's book and this one is perfect for him. Olivia is a woman who had a traumatic event in her life and seemed to be only living a half life, holding herself back. So the once a month anonymous affair was perfect for her. Derek felt otherwise and for awhile I worried that his heart would get broken, but I should have known Ms. Ryan would make it all work out.
I don't think I've read any other book with a monthly anonymous fling before so that was intriguing. The characters are varied and fun and the whole book was filled with wonderful dialogue. Ms. Ryan knows how to give her readers steamy moments that will have you fanning yourself, yet there is a sweetness that will have you sighing. I can't wait to see what her next offering will be.
I was pulled right into this short story. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Ink Inspired (Montgomery Ink, #0.5) Ink Reunited (Montgomery Ink, #0.6) Delicate Ink (Montgomery Ink, #1) Forever Ink (Montgomery Ink, #1.5) Tempting Boundaries (Montgomery Ink, #2) Harder than Words (Montgomery Ink, #3) Written in Ink (Montgomery Ink, #4) Hidden Ink (Montgomery Ink, #4.5) Ink Enduring (Montgomery Ink, #5) Ink Exposed (Montgomery Ink #6) Adoring Ink (Montgomery Ink #6.5) Love, Honor, and Ink (Montgomery Ink #6.6) Inked Expressions (Montgomery Ink #7) Inked Memories (Montgomery Ink #8)
This is Olivia and Derek’s story. What was supposed to be one night a month with no last names all comes crumbling down when their worlds crash into each other. Secrets were supposed to stay hidden but are now out in the open. Will it bring them together or tear them apart? Can they go back to what they were before? Or will trying to ignore the feelings they have for each other rip them apart more?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Inked Nights by Carrie Ann Ryan is part of the 1001 Dark Nights and Montgomery Ink 8,5.
" Once upon a time in the future there was a ..... " and so it starts, a scorching hot, stand alone novella, set in the world of Montgomery Ink.
Derek Hawkins is a tattoo artist at Montgomery Ink. He doesn´t do relationships, but has a steady date with a stranger with benefits. Yep, no joke, he has monthly, anonymous meetings with a stranger , they don´t exchange sur names or anything else personal, only - you know what. Olivia Madison´s rule is don´t fall in love, no commitments and never tell Derek the truth. But on a sunny day their worlds crash and they have to face reality. They have more in common than it seems at the time and they could be so good together. But both are stubborn and hurt each other deeply. I loved meeting the two main characters in this story. Inked Nights is the perfect book to get a look into the Montgomery family, their friends and their life. I was greatly entertained and give 4,5 stars.
This was a great story!! I really enjoyed it! It was a fairly quick read but not too short. Derek and Olivia have had an arrangement for one night a month without names or too many details involved. They can't contact each other outside of that one night as they never shared those details. Both got in deeper than the original intended idea of keeping things surface level. Both believe they are damaged and don't deserve/can't have more. Derek makes the choice to share his name on the step to asking for more but it brings up a twist, as they knew each other when they were very young and are connected by a tragic accident. Olivia puts it together right away but not Derek. I loved how this book was developed. We really got to know the characters as they dealt with this dilemma of what to do. They didn't really know what the other person wanted since things were changing so much and both knew that there was more involved than what had been shared. This story was really well done and I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved getting the little glimpses of the Montgomery Ink family but this book stands on it's own for sure. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
