Try for Love: A Sweet Sports RomCom

Rate this book
One season. One deal. One very inconvenient love story.

International rugby star Logan Callahan doesn’t do roots or relationships. California is just a detour: answers, rugby, and then it’s back to Australia where he belongs. Nothing will get in his way.

Savannah Blair can’t afford distractions. If her meal prep business is going to survive, she needs to prove to her family that defying generations of tradition wasn’t a mistake. But her oversized, opinionated cat isn’t making it easy to stay focused.

And neither is the grumpy rugby player who stumbles into her life.

When the cat decides Logan is his soulmate, the pair reluctantly form an alliance. Logan needs Savannah’s help to reach his birth mother. Savannah needs Logan’s connection to the rugby team’s owner to catch a big break.

No feelings. No complications. Completely temporary.

But the cat has other plans, and the more time Logan and Savannah spend together, the more they start to notice things only feel right when they’re side by side. Now they have to decide whether sticking to the plan is worth losing what they never expected to find, when walking away might break more than just a deal.

Try for Love is a standalone no-spice sports romcom full of witty banter, reluctant allies, and slow-burn chemistry. It’s perfect for readers who love independent women, cocky athletes, and happily-ever-afters worth fighting for.

Oh my my my! I am obsessed with this one from Dana LeCheminant. I love all of her books, but Try for Love is now a new favorite!

Logan is an international rugby star from Australia. He ends up joining the US team temporarily, by the request of his parents, so he can find his birth mother and give his parents some peace. Savannah has been living alone in California to build her meal prep business. Logan and Savannah do not start off on the right foot, but when he realizes he needs her help they come to an arrangement together and things move forward from there. I was really drawn to these two and loved how their unique situation brings them together with Logan’s birth mom being Savannah's client and him as an athlete needing her meal services.

Logan’s character jumped to life for me. I loved his gruffiness, his ego, and his sweet side underneath it all. I could hear his Aussie accent in my head when he said “yeah, love.” He was pretty dreamy. Savannah had a lot of drive and resilience. I loved her character too! These two had so much chemistry it was oozing off the page. It was a slow burn, but the tension and longing had me coming back for more. They gave me butterflies and I really don’t know how Logan and Savannah resisted each other for so long! The flirty banter was amazing and the cat's antics were a hoot! The story had heart, humor, and the emotional aspect was touching, adding the right amount of depth to the story. I just couldn’t get enough! Needless to say this one made a lasting impression on me. Now where can I find the 10 star rating!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eeeekkk!!! I was soooo excited that we got to be back with the Thunder Rugby team from a previous series this author wrote!!! I loved it so much!!! And I'm really hoping that we'll get more books featuring the other players of the team!!! Us readers need those books!!! *Hint, Hint!!!*

I loved the characters in this book! Savannah and her cat Beef Wellington! Logan the rugby star! Yep! Loved them and need more of them! I would love a follow up story for them, or just add them into the rest of the Thunder players' stories. *Wink, Wink. Nudge, Nudge* (If you can't tell, I'm really vying for more rugby books about these Thunder players-Hee Hee!)

There's a great balance between wit and banter and heart with this story. I loved it all! (Not trying to gush, it's just how I feel about this book!) There are moments where my heart ached for the characters and moments where I was giggling, and moments where I was smiling so big! This is definitely another win for me with this author!!! I'm hooked on her books!

This is part of a multi-author series but you don't have to have read any of the previous books. The ones I've read have all been fantastic but are all stand alones. And you don't need to have read the other book by this author, Thunderstruck, that I was referencing about the Thunder Rugby team to enjoy this one. But they are great books that I'd recommend if you're looking for more books to read. ;-)

Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing more. Talk of adoption.

I received a copy from the author via BookSirens. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

When I picked up this no spice sports romantic comedy, I was only planing to read a chapter or two. A few hours later I found myself closing the book and wishing that it had more chapters.

Having met the team in Thunderstruck, I loved returning to these characters under a unique circumstance. Logan is a professional rugby player from Australia. He has all of the celebrity status, acclaim, and finances that come with it. However, he was adopted and he’s in the US for a year in order to find his birth mother, as a way of calming his adoptive parents’ worries. He is a grump and doesn’t want to make new connections since he’ll be leaving in a year anyways.

Enter Savannah. She’s trying to build her meal prep business but her fluffy and emotional cat keeps requiring trips to the vet. A vet who happens to be one of Logan’s new teammates. With a “meet scratch” these two connect and off we go on a romance filled with sports, humor, real life, deep emotions, banter, cat moments, and more. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. This is my first in this multi author series but I’m excited to read more and I cannot wait for LeCheminant to do more with this rugby team!

The romance has plenty physical attraction and admiration coupled with tension, longing, and heated lead up to missed kisses. The romance remains at a just kisses level, intimacy level 3.

CW: Adoption, Language: 1-2 instances

I received an eARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I love, love, loved Try For Love! In this grumpy meets sunshine trope, I immediately fell in love with Logan, Savannah, and the oversized cat, Beef Wellington. (Isn’t that the cutest name for an oversized cat?!?) This trio was one I won’t soon forget. Things start off on the wrong foot when Beef attacks Logan, but soon after, Savannah and Logan run into each other again. Would this rugby player and chef be able to work things out and possibly help each other in the mean time?

Sparks flew and I loved every minute of it! From my old and familiar friends (former previous books) from the Thunder rugby team and the other famous friends, I was all in for this sports inspired romcom. There was an emotional element to the story as well that I really connected with, and I appreciated that it had some more serious issues as well as the lightheartedness. Five starts for Try for Love by Dana Le Cheminant! Now do we get Moxie’s story next?!? Please?

This book was so fun! The characters were so well fleshed out and enjoyable! The banter and the swoon-worthy moments. Aaah! And those didn’t even involve kissing. The chemistry was filled with all the sparks! So awesome! Loved the CAT!

If you love a grumpy, emotionally guarded hero who absolutely does not plan on falling in love… buckle up. This book is a mix of slow-burn tension, reluctant partnership, and “oh no, I caught feelings” energy that just works.

Logan Callahan is an international rugby star with a one-track plan: meet his birth mother, play his season in California, then head back to Australia—no attachments, no roots, no messy emotions. Savannah Blair is just as determined in her own way. She’s fighting to prove to her family that her meal prep business isn’t a mistake, and the last thing she needs is a broody athlete complicating her already full plate.

Enter: Beef Wellington. Honestly, the big Maine Coon might be one of my favorite romance side characters ever. When he decides Logan is his person, the forced proximity and reluctant alliance kick off in the most charming way. What starts as a mutually beneficial deal—Savannah helping Logan connect with his birth mother, Logan offering a business opportunity through his rugby connections—quickly starts unraveling under the weight of very inconvenient chemistry.

What I loved most about this story was watching Logan's attitude change toward the members of his temporary rugby team, and Savannah defy her family's expectations! As a lifelong cat lover, I loved Beef Wellington!! A lot of times, there's no rhyme or reason why a cat gravitates toward certain people, but once they claim you, there's not much you can do about it. I also loved seeing all the guys on the Thunder team again.

I'm a sucker for banter, so I especially liked that part of Savannah and Logan's relationship. I felt the romance built naturally and loved the soft moments tucked between the banter and tension. Watching Logan—who “doesn’t do relationships”—slowly realize that being beside Savannah feels like home? That was SO good!

Even though Try for Love is part of the multi-author The Love Playbook series, it stands perfectly on its own. You don’t need to read the others to fall headfirst into this one. I received an advanced digital copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.

If you’re looking for a feel good, no spice sports romcom with heart, humor, and just the right amount of swoon, Try for Love by Dana LeCheminant delivers.

This story follows grumpy, commitment averse rugby star Logan and determined small business owner Savannah, whose lives collide thanks to one very opinionated and matchmaking cat. What starts as a mutually beneficial arrangement quickly turns into something neither of them planned or wanted to admit.

I absolutely loved Logan’s nickname for Savannah. It added such a personal, endearing touch and made their chemistry feel even more genuine. Their banter was sharp and fun, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow from reluctant allies to something deeper.

The pacing felt smooth, the romance was sweet without being over the top, and the whole story had a cozy, comforting vibe. Plus, the cat was a total scene stealer.

If you enjoy clean romance, sports romance with a rugby twist, grumpy sunshine dynamics, and adorable animal side characters, this one is definitely for you.

Final thoughts: A charming, lighthearted read that left me smiling. Highly recommend!

Logan and Savannah don’t necessarily start off on the right foot when her cat attacks him, but they quickly discover they can help one another out. Savannah with growing her business and Logan with connecting to his birth mother, with neither of them expecting how their relationship would blossom to friendship to more.

Favorite parts
-Beef Wellington the cat
-the bet among the Thunder players
-Logan’s nickname for Savannah
-Savannah learning about rugby
-their text conversations
-Logan getting jealous
-the ending. It was very satisfying but you’ll have to read to find out why I liked it!

“You’re not allowed to complain about how I’m looking at you if you’re going to look at me like that, Logan Callahan.”

Who’s the idiot who, at the peak of his skill, fell in love with a spitfire girl who makes him think about stepping away from it all?
Ah, right. That would be me.

I opened my heart to a woman who might actually be tough enough to handle it.

Wherever you are, that’s where I want to be.

“My eyes jump to Savannah as she moves around my kitchen like she was always meant to be here, and one more mistake flashes through my mind: I opened my heart to a woman who might actually be tough enough to handle it.

As far as my goal goes, she was the worst decision I could have made, and I don’t care.”

I absolutely loved this sports romance!

One of the best things about Dana’s books is the fact that there is depth of story to match the swoon! The characters are well rounded, flawed, and lovable.

I adored Logan, the grumpy Aussie who doesn’t want to be in Utah. He may be crusty, but the hero has a heart of gold.

Savannah is a Southern Belle who isn’t afraid of work—especially when close ones lack support.

Together they are unstoppable!

This book is so much more than a rom-com. While there are definitely funny moments and a great romance, I really loved the character growth in this book.

I did not like MC in the beginning of the book, but the way the author told his journey and how he changed and opened up made me love him by the end.

A great read altogether.

Try for Love by Dana LeCheminant is the 6th book in The Love Playbook series and will be released March 13th. Boy, this book was so much fun to read!

Logan Callahan is an Australian rugby player who, by the request of his parents, comes to California to find his birth mom. He has also joined a rugby team for the season to keep him busy. Once the season is over and he finds the answers he's looking for, it's back to the Land Down Under.

Savannah Blair has been living in California on her own for the past few years so she can build up her meal prep business. To cure her loneliness she's been feeling, she adopted a ginormous cat named Beef. Yes, you read that right. Beef. And I love it.

Savannah and Logan have a not-so-meet-cute through a mishap with Beef. When they think they won't see each other again, Logan runs into Savannah at a client's house she meal preps for. They make a deal with each other: Savannah helps him find his birth mother, and Logan will help her gain more clientele. Little did they know that falling in love was part of it the more time they spent together. Beef especially loves Logan's company. With their feelings so strong for each other, Logan and Savannah have to decide the best way to move forward once the rugby season ends.

Thank you for the ARC, Dana! I loved this story, and I appreciated getting to see some familiar faces.

This is part of The Love Playbook series. It can be read as a standalone, but best if you read the full series.

Such a great story!! Logan Callahan is a grumpy, Rugby player from Australia. Savannah Blair is a spitfire, getting her meal prep business off to a good start, but can't afford any distractions. Her large, feisty cat isn't making her life easy. When the cat, after a lot of chaotic meetings, decides Logan is his soulmate, the pair reluctantly form a friendship. I loved the banter between the two main characters, as well as the slow-burn chemistry. Dana LeCheminant is a fabulous author, and has written a truly engaging story! I found myself staying up way too late finishing this book!

I loved the opinionated cat, some connections with the "Fur-Ever Homes Forum". And absolutely loved the connections between Logan and Savannah.

"His offer feels like drinking hot cocoa on a chilly morning, warming me from the inside out."

"Maybe I don't care what happens and just want a moment to pretend I can have everything."

"You're insufferable."
"You love me anyway."
"Yeah, I do."

Thank you Dana LeCheminant for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

It’s release day! Try for Love by Dana LeCheminant is the next installment in The Love Playbook series, and I am so excited everyone can grab their copy of this delightful sporty romcom and enjoy it this weekend!
Logan, Savannah, and of course Beef Wellington, kept me turning pages until the very last one.
Logan comes off as being so closed off and cocky, but he is so much more than meets the eye with reasons behind his behavior and actions, as disagreeable as his behavior may be.
Savannah is so motivated and talented, working to launch her own business without the hell of her affluent, judgmental, and controlling family because she refuses to fall in line and be married off to a man of her parents choosing.
Through Beef and Logan’s temporary teammate and captain, the trio has something of a “meet pain” as opposed to a meet cute, but that meeting sparks a beautiful journey.
Beef Wellington, Savannah’s recently adopted tabby, keeps drawing them together, ant Logan discovers Savannah might be just who he needs to help him achieve the goals he set for his temporary stay in the states, and Logan proves an invaluable resource to help open some very lucrative business doors for Savannah to grow her career. But at the end of the day, they both realize what they have is something so much more precious than a business relationship.
As Logan looks deeper and truly sees and appreciates who Savannah is and encourages her all while she calls him on his crap and motivates him to open his heart more and be a true team player, feelings that they try to fight come to the surface. Grab your copy and watch how they (with a little help from Beef) navigate towards their happily ever after.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Love Playbook collaborative series has been so much fun to read thus far. Each author brings their wonderful talents to create a cohesive series, while remaining true to themselves and their characters. It is a great way to be introduced to new authors and new characters from previous works. Try for Love, by Dana LeCheminant, is the newest addition and ties into this series perfectly. This book brings back beloved characters from past/current series and introduces new characters that bring so much to the story.

Logan is a rugby player who is in the United States hoping to find his birth mother. He has one year here and his goals are simple; find his mother, have fun playing with a new team for a short time, and don’t get involved with anyone. That’s it. Once this year is done it’s back to Australia and his real life. Well, we all know how well plans go in a romance right? When he has an unfortunate run in with a cat at a vet’s office, he enlists the help of said cat’s owner to help him find his mother. What starts out simple quickly becomes complicated, involved, and maybe a year won’t be long enough.

Savannah’s one goal in life is to turn her meal prep business into a success. When her cat creates a situation where she meets Logan, she sees an opportunity to use his connections for her gain. Of course, she will help him with his goals in return. Getting to know the grumpy rugby player may not have started out as a goal of hers, but the more time they spend together, the more she doesn’t want to say goodbye. Their partnership was only supposed to be about building her company and finding his mom, but it is so much more than that now.

Dana knows how to pull her readers in with characters that burrow their way into hearts and take up residence. Watching Logan and Savannah help each other, while falling for each other, was easy and enjoyable. The story is well paced, the banter is perfectly witty, and seeing Logan become soft for Savannah made me swoon. Her writing is consistent and easy to follow, whether you are a long time rugby fan or know nothing about the game. She creates characters that are layered, complex, and are never all that they seem. I highly recommend this book, the series, and this author!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Oh for the love of yummy food and musclebound men playing sports this one will satisfy even a non-sports enthusiast. Rugby is definitely a very foreign concept to this reader, but this took nothing away from my enjoyment of reading this book. The characters, the storyline and a gigantic polydactyl cat named Beef Wellington made it completely delightful.

International rugby star Logan Callahan has found himself in a very different position than he is usually in with this American team that he will be temporarily playing with. Grumpy does not even begin to describe Logan, but I think a better adjective would be big - big ego, big head, big mouth - you get the picture. Although in his defense the big mouth part comes from having very little filter. At times he means well, but he truly has no idea how to voice his opinions with insulting his teammates. His life is about to be changed when he meets the cat, Beef, and Beef's owner, Savannah Blair.

Savannah Blair is a super talented cook, chef, whatever you want to call her. I just know the descriptions of the food she prepared made me swoon and salivate. She wants to do well with her meal prep business, but Beef keeps causing a ruckus, which is how she ends up in the vet's office, once again. The wild cat gets loose and has a run-in with swagger star, Logan. This scene was absolutely hilarious. I do not think I can think of a better meet cute than this one.

From there the story progresses and the more serious side of the story is revealed. Logan is in the United States to hopefully meet his birth mom. As you learn more of the story, Logan suddenly does not seem so big-headed as his soft side comes out.

This book was perfection in every way because it had such a good plot with a serious side, but also a perfect amount of comedy and romance. It was not your average romantic comedy. This one had some beef to it, and I do not mean the cat named Beef. I laughed, teared up a few times and laughed some more, along with a little swooning in between those emotions. I could easily read this one again and again.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Try for Love is my new favorite Dana LeCheminant romcom! Ah, the banter, the laugh-out-loud antics, & the slow-burn, grumpy vs. sunshine romance, I loved it! I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the LA Thunder locker room, this time with a grumpy international rugby star searching for his birth mom & a spunky chef determined to make her meal prep business succeed. Add in one hilarious monster of a cat, & I’m hooked.

Logan Callahan’s as handsome as he is standoffish. A star on Australia’s national rugby team, the LA Thunder feels like a step down, but joining this ragtag team helps him pursue his real goal of finding his birth mom somewhere in LA. Determined not to form attachments, he easily agrees to a no-relationships bet with his teammates… until he meets Savannah & her demon cat.

Savannah Blair’s determined to prove to her mom she doesn’t need to marry a wealthy Southern gentleman to thrive. Her meal prep business is just getting started, & she’s focused on making it succeed with no distractions. But a run-in with her vet’s rugby teammate turns her world upside down, especially when she discovers her best client is his birth mother & her cat’s obsessed with him. To help each other, she & Logan strike a bargain: he’ll support her business, enjoy her amazing meals, & keep her cat happy, while she helps facilitate a meeting with his mom. What could go wrong?

I loved this story! Beef Wellington aka “Beef” the cat completely steals the show. His antics & obsession with Logan are hilarious. Logan’s Australian charm shines through despite his grumpiness, & I loved watching him fall hard for Savannah (especially while watching her cook). I also enjoyed seeing his growth with his team as well as discovering his past. Savannah’s a total spitfire, & I loved how she matches him so well. And honestly, all the healthy, delicious meals made me wish I could sign up as a client.

Highly recommend this reluctant to fall romcom! Though part of a series, it’s easily read as a standalone. I received an advanced copy from the author but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.

Try for Love is yet another delightful sports romcom in The Love Playbook series. Let’s start with Logan who is a rugby star from Australia who comes to play in the U.S. while trying to connect with his birth mother. Logan is grumpy, isn’t settling in and his team isn’t helping the situation at all, but you find he is all heart. Savannah is spunky and has the determination and drive to succeed but her meal prep business is struggling. I loved these two and even though they are opposites in temperament, they really worked well together and I loved their banter! We also have a feisty and moody cat that brings some fun moments to the mix. There was a lot of heart, depth and emotions to Logan and Savannah. He’s trying to find his birth mother at the request of his adoptive parents and she’s going against everything her parents wanted for her. As they grow closer, they find ways to help and support each other. The first time he calls her “love” I was a goner! If you are looking for flirty banter, characters with heart and depth, a chaotic cat, and a romance that will make your heart flutter, read Try for Love!

Tropes: sports romcom = grumpy/spunky = Aussie MMC = reluctant allies = found family = opinionated cat = flirty banter = swoony kisses

My favorite things:
- Beef Wellington & Big Beef
- He calls her “love”
- She calls him “mate”
- Logan letting her use his kitchen
- Their text conversations
- Savannah learning about rugby
- The beach
- Logan standing up to Savannah’s mom

Favorite quotes:
“He’s gorgeous. He was pretty before, with that mess of russet hair and scruffy jaw, but slap a genuine smile on his face and I apparently forget how to breathe." - Savannah

“She chose me. No one’s chosen me like that except my parents. I’ve always had to prove myself and show my worth to get people to stick around. But Savannah didn’t hesitate.” - Logan

Happy reading!

This is part of The Love Playbook series and could be read as a standalone, but you are going to want to read the full series.

I love when authors are able to write a story that has you feeling all of the emotions - and Dana LeCheminant is a master at that!

When Savannah and Logan first meet, it is utter chaos and ends with Logan's arm bleeding from cat scratches. Beef Wellington, the cat, is a menace, but quickly falls in love with Logan. And I mean, who wouldn't?!? While he is gruff and has a ego that is out of this world, he has his tender moments.

I also love how Savannah doesn't let Logan get away with his crap and calls him out on it. I loved how their relationship progressed over the story and they both had to work at letting their own walls down and move past their insecurities.

While this story deals with some heavier topics, (adoption, looking for birth parents, and unmet parental expectations/parental neglect) Dana handles them with care and uses the experiences to show strength in her characters and build a stronger connection between Savannah and Logan.

It's also fun that we get characters from the Starstruck series in this book! This book also has come great side characters and I'm hoping that there are plans to publish their stories!

Trust me, this is a book/series that you'll want to check out!

Quotes:
"Something about him is begging me to push his buttons..."

"Maybe I don't care what happens and just want a moment to pretend I can have everything."

"She chose me."

"Our rough edges fit together more smoothly when we're side by side."

"I want forever."

A grumpy rugby player and an oversized, troublemaking cat... well, that certainly seems like the recipe for the start of a great romance, right? It certainly worked for Savannah and Logan. These two got off to a rough start, but when they realize that they can help each other out (him with growing her business, her with connecting to his birth mom), that time together soon has sparks flying... and I was here for it! Beef (the cat) was quite the side character himself, adding so much humor and entertainment to their story... and giving us the chance to see Logan's softer side more too. While their story had many moments that had me laughing out loud, the adoption storyline also gave it some emotional and tender moments as well... it truly was the perfect balance of the heart and humor that I love in a good romcom. As a fan of Dana's previous series, it was also really fun to see some familiar characters again too. Logan is playing for the Thunder, Cole's team in Thunderstruck. That said, even if you haven't read any of her previous books, you can still absolutely enjoy this one as a standalone too. If you enjoy sports romance and a good grump, this is certainly one not to be missed.

Try For Love is a closed-door romance with kisses only and a bit of minor language. It is part of The Love Playbook series. This is a multi-author series with each book featuring a different sport and pet. They can be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.

Try For Love . Heavens above Dana LaCheminant. I was in my element reading this. It’s the chef’s kiss. So funny too ,he doesn’t want a honey and she’s too busy making an impression with her selection of meal prep. She hasn’t got time for a pep in her step…Beef Wellington the cat who thinks he’s all that did have a spat at Logan as Savannah was oh drat…

So let me lay this out so you can digest. Logan Callahan is a star International Rugby star. He’s going far. He’s detouring through California though at his parents’ request. He’s in the US for a year. They feel it’s best, before heading back to Australia. Piece of cake right? Only his plight is ,he doesn’t know where to start with this. You see he’s adopted and his parents have opted to send him to Cali to find his real mother. This is where he meets Ms Blair and her cat Beef had ,well beef with him.

Talking of cake ,segues into our leading lady Savannah Blair who is trying against her family’s wishes to clear up in her meal prep business preparing lots of dishes .

There’s also her cat Beef (Wellington ) who thinks he’s all that and at Logan he does spat. Well to be fair ,what cat likes a visit to the vet. Logan wasn’t to know that a visit with his teammate on his temporary team who’s also the vet supreme.
Beef. He’s an overweight and over opinionated puss who thinks he’s the boss. Well Logan and Savannah think that’s the end of that….

It was such a pleasure to read this! I love this series and Dana is an auto author for me! I am now eagerly waiting for the entire team to get books!
Savannah was a sweetheart! I loved her spunk and energy. She was determined to establish her business, even though she had to do so much on her own. I was rooting for her success, not only in her career, but in finding people to support and believe in her.
I really felt for Logan! He was really going through it and had trouble expressing his emotions. He was with a new team and had some rough edges that caused friction there. Logan had to open up and accept some things about himself.
Logan and Savannah were a lot of fun together! They had a bit of a meet-ugly! Beef was hilarious! I loved his scenes! As Logan and Savannah spent time together, they were able to really see the other’s thoughtfulness and care. They supported one another and still pushed each other. I loved how Logan especially saw Savannah’s strength in building up her business.
I also adored getting to see the Thunders again! They were key in Logan’s story and I would love to see more of them! I enjoyed the cameos too. It was so fun to see the thread of the animal adoption through this series and love the messages. This sports romance has some passionate kisses.
I received an ARC.

This book had my emotions all over the place, in the BEST WAY! From the hilarious meet ugly (chaos cat at the vet, anyone?) to the heartstring-tugging adoption storyline, I went from laughing hysterically to crying not-so-hysterically, and everything in between.

Logan’s storyline really pulled me in. He’s an Australian, rugby playing celebrity lost in a new world of American anonymity. He trie so hard NOT to fit in with his team, and I loved seeing them fight that effort to bring him in as one of their own. I absolutely love his relationship with his parents. They are so supportive and really want him to find what he’s looking for. Savannah’s mom, not so much. I really related to the struggle Savannah faced between pursuing her dreams and bending to her mother’s wishes.

I adored Savannah and Logan together. Add in Beef Wellington, the Maine Coon cat, and you have the perfect trio of grumpy, sunshine, and chaos. The way each of them helps the other two…perfection.

This forced proximity, sports (Rugby) romance is the sixth book in The Love Playbook multi-author series. Each features a different sport and a different rescue pet adopted through the Fur-Ever Homes pet rescue.

This book pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down! I loved Logan and Savannah’s story! It was the perfect blend of heart and humor.

I loved Logan’s Australian accent, and yes, it came through perfectly when reading! The way he called Savannah “love” was *chefs kiss*. I loved the way that he was a grump, but was also not very aware of how his actions came across to other people. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, whether it was on the field or on his personality and I loved that about his character. And his relationship with Beef Wellington was so great; it had me laughing out loud multiple times!

Savannah (a great name I might add, 😉) was a great blend of sassy and sweet. She had a big soft heart, whether it was for rescue cats, her clients, or grumpy rugby players. She was very protective of Beef and of Logan and I loved the lengths she would go to to take of them.

I also loved getting to see Cole from the Starstruck series and hearing about Liam. And I really can’t wait to read Moxies book! But I’m also very intrigued by the roommate situation with Tink….

This book made me laugh, brought tears to my eyes, and I sighed when I finished. This is definitely one I will be rereading!

This book has many fun and flirty moments yet mixes in some truly deep and heartfelt truths about belonging and the importance of having someone choose you.

Logan struggles to make connections with others and comes off as very grumpy. Yet he grows so much in this story and eventually connects with his temporary teammates and especially with Savannah. He carries a lot of hurt and questions about his biological parents and the "whys" behind his adoption.

Savannah battles a good bit of loneliness herself and does not have support or love from her parents. I enjoyed seeing things begin to work out for her meal prep business and the connections she made through Logan.

One of the very sweetest things about this story was seeing Logan and Savannah choose each other over anyone else. It is what they both needed and was so important to their emotional healing. The rescue cat, Beef Wellington, added some really fun moments throughout the book when he fell for Logan and was depressed when he wasn't around!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I also purchased my own print copy. All opinions are my own.

A delightful story to be sure. Logan is a professional rugby player in Australia and has come to LA searching for his biological mother. He is cocky, aloof, and grumpy. Savanna is sweet, friendly and a ray of sunshine. She is focused on building her meal prep business, True Fuel, into something she can be proud of, but also to show her parents that she is capable of succeeding on her own. These two are the most unlikely of pairs and yet they work perfectly together. I enjoyed watching them grow as individuals and as a couple, each working on family relationships, and their individual development. The clean romance is heartfelt and swoony, the key to any good relationship. Our fur-ever pet in this book is a “beastly” cat named Beef Wellington. This book is part of a series, each having a rescue pet and a sports romcom theme. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Grumpy / Sunshine with Heart, Humor, Emotions and an Oversized Crazy Maine Coon Cat - So Fun!

This book was wonderful from cover to cover and I was sorry to see it end. It was a closed door romance - a few great kisses- that did deal with the serious topics of adoption and parental abandonment in case this are triggers. I really liked both Savannah and Logan (despite his grumpy exterior). The book was told via dual POV so the reader did get a thorough understanding of each of their inner thoughts and feelings and their attraction was off the charts. And "Beef" the cat provided lots of humor as well. I enjoyed that despite Logan's tough shell, he did protect and help Savannah, help her business, and I loved his cuddling with Beef. The background characters of the team players (especially Moxie) were well developed and I am hoping for their stories next - Enjoy!

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I absolutely loved Try for Love; it was one of those rare books I truly couldn’t put down. The chemistry and the back-and-forth between the characters were top-tier, and I especially enjoyed watching their progression from being against each other to truly being for each other. The MMC’s transformation was completely believable, and the authentic "Aussie talk" added such a fun flair to the dialogue. Even though I didn’t know much about rugby before reading, this story really made me want to learn more! A huge standout for me was the cat—he was a fantastic sub-character who added so much personality, especially during that hilarious "fake hurt" vet visit at the beginning. If you are looking for a fantastic no-spice rom-com that relies on wit and genuine character growth, I highly recommend picking this up.

“Rugby is temporary. You and Beef are forever.”

I never had an interest in Rugby until I started reading books with cool Rugby players by Dana LeCheminant and now I feel invested in this sport. Try for Love was a sweet story between an Aussie Rugby player and a hopeful personal chef thrown together by a meddlesome cat. I really enjoyed the text threads in this book and how stubborn the main characters were, but how that worked so well to grow their romance.

Logan is playing one season in the States as he hopes to find his biological mother. The theme of adoption and how that played into Logan’s self-esteem and purpose was really neat to see. I also loved watching him soften toward his Thunder teammates who I hope all get their own books someday.

The flirting was fun, I enjoyed the dual POV, Beef Welling the cat was his own main character, and reading this definitely made me hungry for tasty nutritional meals. I recommend this book.

I was so bummed I didn’t get to read the ARC for this like the rest of the series, but I was not going to miss a Dana LeCheminant book. She is one of my favorite authors! Normally I don’t like slow burn because most times it’s just annoying. This book, however, was perfect! The tension and longing and anticipation was absolutely delicious. And when those kisses finally happened, I was swooning. Logan definitely knows how to kiss a girl. The banter between these two was fantastic, I loved them together. And the way they chose each other, *sigh*. There were a few heart tugging moments where tears slipped out but they were a necessary part of their story and growth. And I loved that we got to see a bit of Cole (from the Starstruck Love Stories series) and his teammates on the LA Thunder rugby team.

This is a great Rugby sports romcom. Savannah is sassy, saucy, and a spitfire. Logan is a grump of all grumps and has the biggest ego known to man along with his string sense of confidence. Savannah helps him to reach his softer side. Savannah adopted a huge cat that has extra toes named Beef Wellington. He loves Logan and gets sad when he doesn't come over. I loved Beef, he is the perfect side kick comc relief. Experiencing Logan's journey to find his softer side and learn to be humble and vulnerable was a privilege. Dana writes her characters in a way where they become real and you get invested in their lives. I loved the Cameos of Cole Evanson from the book, Thunderstruck, and Liam Connolly from Starstruck. There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 kisses only. Dual POV.
