Sterek
"Derek wished he would sit down or take his jacket off or something; anything that would indicate he was going to stay for more than a few minutes." This is an alternate universe version of the apartment scene in my story Love, Like a Sentence of Death.

The book was on the dresser, had been there for weeks, the first thing Derek looked at every morning when he woke up. Now he barely glanced at it as he scooped it up and walked back to the living room. It was a stupid thing to pin so many hopes on, anyway.
"Here you go," Derek said, and handed it to him indifferently, like he hadn't spent a year and several hundred dollars acquiring it, and the last two months obsessing over giving it to him.

It was different – nice twist in characterization. I prefer the other way around, though.
Still, it was an enjoyable read.

Gawd for me, this is just how I like my angst and this was great angsty goodness.

Derek's been pining. Hard.
He's insecure, broody, and painfully awkward in his hesitance.

Stiles has been hoping. Patiently.
He's all grown up, confident, and cocksure.

Mix desperate longing and fabulous smex, and you've definitely got a winner here.

This was okay. Nothing special, really. But enjoyable enough at the same time.
It's always interesting to see Derek pining for Stiles. Sometimes it works for me. Other times, not so much.

Re-read May 26, 2015. Best read after Love, Like A Sentence of Death. As a bonus the lighter, more positive tone of this alternate view of Derek and Stiles getting together lifts any remaining melancholy from LLASD. I no longer feel like wearing black for the rest of my life.

So, it's weird, right? Because this is supposed to be an alternate universe version of the apartment scene in DevilDoll's Love, Like a Sentence of Death...but I didn't even recognize that story in this one. And I literally just read it.

I wasn't feeling the chemistry between Derek and Stiles in this one, and the role reversal was weird.

I love me a pining Derek with self worth issues and all the deepest feels. And mutual pining? Even better.
A bit longer with more developed angst would push this up to a 4 for me, but it's pretty nearly there already.

This was a very good short. This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. The story is short enough that it's hard to say if it's based around the show or not. Derek is a werewolf and Stiles is in college in this story.

Derek has always wanted Stiles but has never had the nerve to approach him. Stiles is in college and when he's back on break Derek sees Stiles offers to let him borrow a book Stiles has been looking for. When Stiles stops by Derek's place for the book, their mutual attraction finally takes off (after a bit of fumbling). The story ends with Stiles and Derek liking each other and the future looking promising for the two of them.

This was a very enjoyable short. It was very well written...I could really feel Derek's angst and uncertainty. I've heard that this story was suppposed to be an alternate bedroom scene from another story of hers, Love, Like a Sentence of Death but I've read it and they seem to be completely different stories to me. This story was very short but also very good. :D

* note - I listened to the podcast version of this story. The narrator had an accent but it wasn't heavy enough to cause problems with understanding what was said (an issue I've had in the past) and overall, she did a good job.
