Gone Wild

Rate this book
He’s my ex-boyfriend’s brother, an alpha with an old-fashioned face and a rugged demeanor. I’m the omega who’s managed to get myself stranded in the middle of nowhere with him during a snowstorm.

It’s fine though. It’s not like anything’s going to happen between us. We’re both adults and we have this thing called self-control. There’s nothing to worry about.

Except, there’s a trickle of heat flowing through my veins, and things are happening in my body that I can’t explain.

Wait. I’m not going into heat, am I?

Gone Wild is a blisteringly high heat MM omegaverse romance, featuring a swoon-worthy alpha, an incorrigible omega, and a love story that will melt the coldest of hearts.

I'm Jesse, and I write contemporary and paranormal MM romance.

Whether my characters are born magical, or whether magic is something they make between the sheets, I strive to take the reader into the mind of the narrator. My ultimate goal is to leave the reader feeling like they’ve made a new friend or have spent a few hours flirting with a brand-new book boyfriend.

I love coffee, chocolate and daydreaming, in no particular order. I love conflicted characters, lust at first sight and angst – no seriously, ALL the angst. Give it to me!

I was so freaking excited for this book because… Jesse Reign. And I also love reading omegaverse. But this was a bust. Very slow going, way more inner monologue than dialogue (which I fucking hate) and too much details without moving the plot along. It was very easy to get into skimming. *yawn

This could easily have been a novella.

As a self professed Jesse Stan, no one is sadder than me to report that this did not work for me. I struggle with omegaverse as it is, and this was not an easy read for me. I did not connect with anyone in this, the plot was paper thin, and the smut wasn’t my cup of tea. I skimmed and skimmed as well.

One extra star cause the whole ~finger sucking instead of kissing~ was surprisingly good. Probably my favourite scene in the book.

This was an ARC and this is my honest review. *Sobs*

3 stars only upon longer reflection—could even make a case to go down to a 2.5, but what’s stopping me is that it was too darn readable. Low to no angst, this ABO, heat-centered romance felt like bespoke porn to a large degree, but done with the utmost taste and class. Ms Reign takes more than 20% of the book to get to the heat, but the groundwork is being laid in bright neon lights from the outset with a textbook porn set up. Probably one of the better smut-oriented romances I’ve read—I have a “makes you feel dirty just to read” category, but this one didn’t make the cut because it was so sweet and well done. I found Lucian somewhat irritating, but not to an off-putting degree. I didn’t see Branson as the hair-product obsessed hipster that was on the cover—he managed to be just shy of a himbo, though a complete teddy bear. Definitely more of a comfort read than anything else, but well written.

Gone Wild is a fun omegaverse romance featuring stubborn Lucien and relaxed and quiet Branson. These two could not be more opposite, but due to the unforeseen winter storm, they are forced to cohabitate for over a week until it passes. This scenario creates the perfect amount of unresolved tension as these two tiptoe around one another, and the unforeseen reality of their situation presents itself.

Overall, I was super excited to read this author's take on an omegaverse setting, and my goodness, did this story not disappoint. It is full of steamy moments, forbidden feelings, and overall a strong emotional throughline that I could not get enough of. These two clearly have chemistry, and watching them resist one another for so long, until all their walls come crashing down, is expertly done and really catapults the story in a fun direction. Hopefully, there is more in this universe because I am very intrigued by a certain character.

⭐️ 4.25 stars rounded down ⭐️

Read in another buddy read with the always lovely Lilly ❤️

This was, overall, a fun read with great chemistry between Lucy (aka Lucien) and Branson.

This was overall, an erotic story. It was mainly about sex and focused on sex. There is not much story other than that. Even the promise of some juicy drama with Lucy's ex, Branson's brother, was shortchanged a bit.

He did eventually show up near the very end and he actually cared they got together and was upset about it, but I thought he'd be a bigger presence and a bigger problem than he ended up being. I was surprised he wasn't happy from them from the offset, so that was a nice surprise. Although I think it was mainly to set up his book next, which I am absolutely looking forward to!

But otherwise the premise is quite simple. Branson and Lucy get stuck in Branson's cabin for almost two weeks because of a snowstorm when Lucy came because he and his two friends, one of them being Jensen, the brother of Branson and his ex, were going to spend the weekend there and have a "Bad Bitches" weekend hangout. He had muted his notifications at work that day, though, and missed the texts saying the friend meet up was canceled due to the snow storm, of course.

Branson owns said cabin, so of course he goes there frequently.

Of course, after the first night it is apparent that Lucy forgot to pack more of his heat suppressant pills, and due to the storm he can't get more...and thus goes into his first ever heat (he never went through a first one, he immediately went on the suppressants ) and thus it's more intense than even normal heats.

And Branson is ever the gentleman Alpha, but even he can't resist forever and goes into rut, especially when Lucy full on goes into heat and it's not just building toward it. They know they'll have to share Lucy's heat together before they completely lose their minds to their heat/rut, so consent is given, but of course things are even more intense than with a normal pairing, because feelings are involved.

They previously had barely talked to each other before, but Branson has been half in love with Lucy already for years, even when Lucy was dating his brother. Lucy probably never let himself go there, but there is attraction on his end and as his heat goes on and Branson shows more of who he is, and show how sweet and kind he is, Lucy starts to fall back.

This did take a bit to establish an connection between these two, and I do wish romance had been a bit of a bigger focus in this, so that is why I gave this .75 stars off, but the great chemistry and building romance - what little we got of it - really gave this a boost for me.

I think this could have easily been a by rote story - an omegaverse story where one is going into heat and he has to share it with an alpha...what else is new about that premise? Nothing. - so the author being able to make it refreshing and exciting and well written was a big plus for this, so it had a lot going for it where otherwise it might not have, especially with so little focus on the romance, especially so little focus until late in the book.

Seriously, the heat sex between these two got so intense and hot and passionate and off the walls insane and I loved it, it was so fun to read. Once they got to knotting during sex too...well that was, well, wild 😘

So should you expect more from this story than a typical omegaverse plot/erotica? Not exactly. But does it do amazing with what it gives us? Hell yes!

It also had a bit of drama caked in with the sex once Lucy's heat clears, but it gets cleared up soon enough and it was made clear what exactly happened and so them being able to smooth it over and move on from it made sense.

This is a bit of a deviation for this author, but I loved it, it was a great venture into something new. This does make it clear that Lucy gets pregnant at the VERY end (like the last page of the whole book) and that he and Branson planned for it, but that's the only hint of mpreg in this whole book, so I definitely didn't feel it needed to be tagged for it, because overall there really is not mpreg in this, just the confirmation at the end that he does get pregnant and will have a baby...off page, of course.

Anyhow, I'm excited for Jensen's story next and am excited to see him in England with most likely his boss who will be his Alpha.

Until then! 😍

dnf @ 72% - i think every choice made for this author’s omegaverse universe was the least sexy and most boring way to go about it. these two could barely string together a convo, so absolutely zero development on that front….ok whatever, it’s high heat omegaverse, surely the sex will make up for it?? oh my god, enter the most agonizingly boring sex scenes….everything that makes omegaverse sex scenes so fun, the constant desperation and neediness and heightened emotions, all fell monumentally flat despite the author’s lengthy attempts to convince us that each orgasm is more earth-shattering and intense than the last like blah blah blah, it’s all talk!! every emotion feels unearned, like it’s just a slapped together rough draft talking at me instead of a story unfolding naturally. i feel embarrassed that i was so excited to read this💀💀 this is the type of garbage writing i’d expect from an overhyped tik tok book, like what is going onnnn😭

Let's be real, when someone mentions the tropes omegaverse with forced proximity, I’m immediately sold 🥰

Lucien is an omega, and Branson is an alpha. When they stay in a cabin and there happens to appear a blizzard, snowing them in, they are forced to spend some time all alone. Well, you may guess what happens if something like that happens, especially when the omega gets into a very spontaneous heat 🥵

Aside from all the insane tension this two definitely have, there is so much humour in this book, which I absolutely loved 😅

There really isn’t anything this author can’t ride insanely good, so this was another 5-star-read as well 😍

I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND of Gone Wild y’all! It’s a snowed in, forced proximity, best friend’s brother omegaverse and it has EVERYTHING I wanted. Branson and Lucien are idiots to lovers in the BEST way, the delusion is strong but it’s SO OBVIOUS they are meant to be. The hilarious banter is just so @jesse_h_reign - it reminded me of the humor in Poetry On Ice, which despite being a VERY different story I also devoured.

The spice had me fanning myself 🥵, there’s a LOT and it’s HOT (unexpected heat in a cabin, it’s going to get SPICY). And it’s definitely another case of fast spice, slow burn (a favorite trope of mine) and none of it was gratuitous. I really enjoyed the omegaverse world building and AHHHHHH there’s SO MUCH scenting, SO MUCH heat delirium, and SO MUCH CARETAKING (Y’ALL HE MAKES HIM SOUP).

Book like this are exactly why I love omegaverse SO much. And I think this one is really accessible to OV beginners too, adding it to my rec list for people wanting to try it for the first time. HIGHLY recommend, if you are looking for a low angst smutty read on the shorter side that you absolutely cannot put down, Gone Wild is IT. Out March 4!

I honestly don’t know what to make of this book. For once Jesse has left me speechless but not a 5 stars read way.

Let me explain.
First, I’ve never read a heat that long, ever, in my life. I joke you not, half, if not more, is about Lucien’s heat.
I loved the pre heat, the explanation, the mental changes and all. Lucien was super funny at time and Branson was a sweetheart. I loved the fact that Branson had a crush on Lucien since his first meeting and that Lucien has a huge denial on how much he find Branson sexy, but that about it.

Second, I don’t know if I can call it a romance (for me). The smut and the heat was taking SO much that honestly, I was not swooning, or barely. Smut and romance work together but on that specific case, it did not (still for me)

Third, some details did not had up. I had the impression that sometimes I was missing something. Some times gap but I had to go back to make sure i did not miss anything. Some details added but not really used.

For an horny book, yup, it works. For a romance book? I was lacking so much. I wanted to know Lucien and Branson more, I would have wanted to swoon over them but I did not. It felt like they could have been more than that, more than just physical attraction, maybe scent match, maybe fated.
Well I don’t know, I still enjoyed a good 60% of the book until after the heat. After that I was left with “I dont know what’s going on”

Jesse is still one of my fav author, but I guess that one did not hit.

Tropes: Alpha / Omega, forced proximity, hurt/comfort, ex-boyfriend's brother
Feels: 3/5
Steam*: 4/5
Kinks: heat sex, knotting, somnophilia
Angst: low
HEA: HEA
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: ex-boyfriend's brother
Cheating between MCs: No
Any cheating: No
Other person drama: Branson was instantly attracted to Lucien when he met him, back when Lucien was dating his brother Jensen. So there was a bit of pining. Lucien and Jensen have been over for years though and Branson never did anything about his attraction to Lucien. There's a few moments where Lucien gets jealous that Branson has spent heats with omegas before.

4.5 stars

Lucien is 26 years old. He is an omega, and he's only ever been with omegas and betas. He's never been through a heat before because of suppressants. His friend group is supposed to go to his ex-boyfriend and best friend Jensen's Brother's cabin for vacation, he shows up there and only Branson the brother is there. He finds out that the vacation was canceled because of a upcoming blizzard about to hit the area. But it's too late for him to go home because the weather is already horrible. They are staring down spending about a week and a half together because of the weather. Then things get complicated, turns out Lucien forgot to fill his suppressant container, and he has no suppressants. He goes into heat. And Branson, who is an alpha, takes care of him through it.

When the heat is over, will they walk away from each other or stay together? Obviously door number two! LOL

This book was full of caretaking and smut. So much smut. They had so much marathon sex. I loved how feral they were for each other, and how whipped Bronson was for Lucien. He wanted Lucien so bad. Lucien was quirky / funny, relatable and endearing.

I kind of wish that Lucien had started having feelings for Bronson a little earlier. On his side the relationship was very much sex only, until all of a sudden there was love too towards the end. Could have benefited from a bit more romance development. But it was a very pleasant journey of a book. Packed a punch.

Some notable moments:

Relatable! "When Jensen first mentioned the getaway, he said things about hiking, fresh air, and getting back to nature, and I said, “I’d rather die.” And I meant it"

"Oh, the sight of him like that. The way he looks with wet hair and wet skin, cupping his little asshole, trying to keep my loads inside him. It’s the sexiest thing imaginable, but it’s more than that. It’s also adorable. So fucking adorable, I want to squish him. I want to squeeze him. I want to crush his soft places and mark them up so bad that everyone he meets will take one look at him and know he’s mine."

"“Oh!” I cry, clutching my chest. “That’s my forlorn alpha!”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

This was so hot and honestly unexpected from JHR. She can write her butt off but I wasn’t expecting all of my favorite tropes in one book. 🔥😭

If you need a pick me up or a palate cleanser or you just want to live in another JHR world for a bit instead of this one, this is the book. The plot was minimal and the smut was window fogging. My perfect cup of tea 😭😂

I wanted to like this, I promise. Just read the below sentence i wrote about a week or two before the book came out. Unfortunately I could not get over Lucien’s personality and attitude. He was absolutely insufferable. And the spice wasn't even that good and very boring, for an Alpha in a rut, that man sure knew what he was doing and had the self control of a thousand men.

Even though I'm yet to read this, I can already tell that the problem only with this book is that, it doesn't say Book 1.

I have been so excited to read omegaverse from Jesse, and this was a steamy, spicy read!

Fans of all the omegaverse tropes, forced proximity, best friend's brother, and mate bonds will REALLY enjoy this one!

I adored Branson and just how gentle giant green flag he is. He's been in love with Lucien for years and hid it well, since Lucien thinks how they barely know each other. I do wish we'd maybe had a bit more inner thoughts from Branson on the emotional aspect of it all? Even though we had chapters from his POV, it still felt like I didn't know him as well and he was so private? Compared to Lucien.

Also, it did take me a little bit to warm up to Lucien, since he's a bit bratty, kinda standoffish? and tries so hard to come off as unbothered and a strong omega. And, he doesn't know the full story, but there are moments where he's not so great towards Branson.

One thing I really loved was Jesse's take on omegaverse and how there were a couple things that made it feel a bit fresh and different, like the things leading up to the heat for the omega, the rules of the bond and claiming bites and the results of one. I really enjoyed these little unique additions to the worldbuilding. The heat itself was very long and very graphic. It felt very physical, and less emotional for me.

I'd definitely read more omegaverse from this author! I REALLY hope she'll return to it and write Branson's brother's story!!

I received an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.

To say I loved this would be a horrible understatement 🫨
I’m no omega but it felt like going through heat myself, I had to literally tear my eyes off my kindle!

It's such a beautiful, hilarious, spicy and easy story, I feel like I had a mini-vacation of around 300 pages 🥰

At this point I’ve loved each of Jesse’s book I’ve read, so it’s no surprise this one completely swept me away too. I honestly don’t know how she does it, I already adore her writing in regular romance, but then she steps into omegaverse with all the mates, heat, yearning, instincts and raw desire - and it’s just ridiculous, people!

I ended up with so many highlights and notes already, but I could probably quote half the book.

I was smiling, awwwwwing, giggling, crying, it was so beautiful 🤍

Lucy had me from the very beginning, he’s exactly what we all love - chaotic, bratty, messy, and completely adorable. And then Branson’s first chapter came and made my chest ache from the sheer intensity of his yearning 🤍

Connection between Lucy and Branson is so consuming, like, there’s barely any outside world or side characters, world-building is minimal and the story is almost entirely focused on the two of them - and honestly? I couldn’t care less! It was perfect 🤍

I don’t know what to think about this one. It’s pretty much pure escapism. Low drama, low angst, high steam.

Lucian ❤️ Branson

Lucian is an omega who goes on a weekend getaway with friends to a mountain cabin. Unfortunately, he misses the texts from his friends saying that the weekend is canceled due to an impending snowstorm.

Branson is the only person who shows up (it’s his cabin) and they end up snowed in together. Lucian forgets his suppressant and goes into heat.

It is the story of them realizing - as they get through Lucian’s heat and Branson’s rut - that they were always destined to be together.

Branson is the gentle alpha who guides Lucian and Lucian is the stubborn and bratty omega who doesn’t want to admit his attraction and affection. The descriptions of them together during his heat are very sweet as they both become kind of loopy and delirious.

I dropped a couple stars because:
1) I didn’t really like Lucian. I wanted him to be nicer to Branson before/after he went into heat. It was kind of a classic MF dynamic where the H is a walking green flag and will do anything for the h and she stubbornly resists for no reason. This is written in that vein.
2) There was very little back story before the heat started - in fact, it feels like Lucian doesn’t even like Branson, which is a problem. There should be some inkling of their feelings before the billion pages of mating. Even afterward, we don’t see them together really as a couple. We’re told they spent 8 weeks together, but we see very little emotional connection building. (Altho the scene w Branson standing outside Lucian’s building holding wilting flowers bc he can’t stand to away from him is…. 🥹. So cute.)

❤️No third act breakup.
🗣️Communication - I loved that at the end, due to their connection, that they weren’t able to lie to each other. This was a nice twist and prevented an annoying third act situation.
🙃Opposite attract - Rude, stubborn omega and sweet kind calm Alpha.
🫣 No OM drama. They both feel possessive of the other
❄️. Forced proximity: they are trapped together in a cabin for 10 days due to a massive snowstorm.
🥰 Fated Mates - Branson has wanted and felt possessive of Lucian since the very first time he saw him and continues to be deeply in tune w him. As he helps him through his heat, it’s easy to see his care and their inexplicable connection.
🌶️ Spice - this is 75% spice and it’s used to build the trust and connection between the two of them.
🪢 Knotting, mating, Mpreg (epilogue)
👬🏽Ex-boyfriend and current best friends brother. Lucian dated Branson’s brother a while ago and they split and became friends. I loved that this wasn’t really an issue.
👥 Dual POV; HEA; Mated w a bite; I year later epilogue

The omegaverse isn’t usually my thing, but I love Jesse H. Reign, so I had to give this one a try. Unfortunately, as much as I enjoy her books, this one just wasn’t for me. That said, this is definitely a me issue and not a reflection of the quality of the book itself.

For me, I needed a bit more plot alongside the spice. I felt like we didn’t get much time to really get to know Lucien or Branson before Lucien’s heat began, and from that point on the story focused almost solely on their physical relationship. My favorite part of reading is watching the characters and their relationship develop, and I just wanted more of that here.

If you’re a fan of omegaverse books, though, I’d say take my opinion with a grain of salt—I can absolutely see this working really well for readers who enjoy this genre.

I was excited about this book as I like most books that I've read by this author, but this wasn't for me.
I love omegaverse, but this book was all about Lucien's heat and the amount sex he and Branson had. It was just sex, sex and more sex. There was no romance or swooning moments.
It was basically a book telling how an omega went through his heat and not much else.
There were many explanations about how a heat works, how omegas feel during it and how everything works in the previous days to a heat. It was interesting, but at times it felt like it was a manual and not a romance book.
I'm giving the book two stars because it is well written, but I didn't really enjoy it.

If you are looking for smut, this delivers. But the plot felt like just one large scene (the heat) stretched out for the entire length of the book with not a lot of depth. It was enjoyable but it felt like it would have been better suited as a novella to me.

Okay, this one’s on me. I went in without knowing what omegaverse was, and yeah… it’s definitely absolutely not for me 😅😂😂

The writing is good, I’ll give it that. But the heavy focus on the omega’s heat and the constant smut just isn’t my thing. 🫣🫣🫣
I’m pretty sure readers who are into that kind of… situation will enjoy it way more than I did. 😅

3⭐ because this was clearly a me problem, and not a book problem. 🙂

Nobody does down bad men like Jesse Reign.

I have a real soft spot for a particular narrative device where the story is told in dual first-person POV, but you only get one character’s perspective for the first few chapters. In those chapters you form an impression of both MCs, usually slightly wrong, and then when the other POV finally arrives you discover he’s been completely smitten the entire time. Bonus points if the supposedly unimpressive MC turns out to be much hotter than originally imagined.

So, mild spoiler: my darling Jesse uses that device here, and I was delighted.

Now, a confession: I remain deeply on the fence about omegaverse even though I gave an A/B/O MM romance five stars recently. I was as surprised as you are.

There are a few things about the genre that tend to give me pause. First, many omegaverse books are written in a very basic style that can sometimes feel almost YA-adjacent. This was not the case with this book, thankfully, but important to note for my omegaverse TED talk. Second, depending on the book, the omega can feel so coded as traditionally female, small, pretty, self-lubricating, fertile (a detail I personally could live without), that it starts to blur the dynamic in ways that don’t always work for me. It was definitely the case in this book, to the point where Branson called Lucien “Lucy” most of the time. Related to that, I’ve noticed that most omegaverse books never really address sexuality at all. I don’t need homophobia or angst about it, but I do sometimes wish there were at least a passing acknowledgement that these characters prefer men romantically and sexually.

And finally (and this is my pettiest complaint) I wish there were some kind of international summit of omegaverse writers where everyone could agree on the rules. It’s a little like vampires once the genre exploded: suddenly garlic matters in one book, doesn’t in another; some can only survive off blood directly from a human, others can supplement with the blood of other animals (I’m talking to you, Edward Cullen.) Same thing with omegaverse. Every writer has their own set of rules. For example, I always thought alphas could knot whenever they wanted, but in this book it only happens when the omega is in heat. It’s a small thing, but my fantasy brain likes consistency.

All that said, let’s get back to the actual book.

As always, I love Jesse Reign’s writing. She’s genuinely funny, but not in a rom-com way (I have very little patience for rom-com energy). Her characters, both main and side, are consistently likable, and that’s very much the case here. Branson in particular was such a goddamn delight that I would happily read an entire series about him just existing.

Another aside that matters very little — Jesse usually nails her cover models, but this one didn’t quite do it for me. But I got the gist, so we’re good.

Fair warning: this book is extremely steamy. Like… a lot a lot. If you’re not into a very enthusiastic amount of on-page spice, this probably won’t be your thing.

In the end, I bumped this up to four stars rather than three largely because of something Jesse mentioned in the afterword: she wrote this fluffy, escapist book as a way to cope with the general hellscape of the world right now. I felt that deeply. And honestly? The book did feel like an escape. Sometimes we all just need a little fluffy la-la-land to get through the day.

I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader!

I love her omegaverse, I love it so much. The details and the use of colors were such a nice touch. The characters!!! I’m very much like Lucy: I don’t check group chats, I hate the outdoors, I love watching TV, and I talk when I’m nervous to fill the silence.

This is a quick read, but from what we got of him, I loved it. I really enjoyed his POV, which makes up the majority of the book. Another thing I agree with Lucien on is that names you love can be ruined by other people. I knew a guy named Branson, and I thank the Lord (or should I say Jesse H. Reign) that this Branson wasn’t anything like him. He’s literally the definition of a giant teddy bear. Green flag.

He was such a caring alpha to his omega. I wish we got more of his thoughts and likes, and his relationships with his brother but again, this book was on the shorter side (imo) so what we did get was still enough. I feel like book two will be about Jensen,

I’m assuming I’ll have to wait until the release to receive the bonus in the newsletter, but I can’t freaking wait. I literally screamed when the next chapter didn’t have that sceneeeee. I needed to know!!!

But like always, Reign does a great job of sucking me into the story and making it impossible to put the book down. I hope others enjoy it too, especially if they’re just wanting a sweet omegaverse read.

This is an ex-boyfriend’s brother to more omegaverse romance, featuring Lucien and Branson, and is book one in the Wild Hearts series.

Lucien, ends up stranded in a snowstorm with Branson, his ex-boyfriend’s rugged alpha brother, but is certain they can keep things under control. But when strange warmth spreads through his body, Lucien realises he might be going into heat at the worst possible moment.

I really enjoyed this one. The push and pull between Lucien and Branson was fantastic, and their determination to keep things under control while their attraction kept growing made it an extremely entertaining read. I loved them being snowed in, the surprise heat and I especially loved Branson’s caring nature, and the fact that he’d been crushing on Lucy since they first met was the icing on the omegaverse cake.

Things to expect in this book are:
Book 1 in series
MM romance
Ex-boyfriend’s brother
Alpha x Omega
Size difference
Snowed in
Only one cabin
Secret crush
Surprise heat
Makes him a nest
Spicy times
Knotting & marking
Mates
HEA

I actually refuse to believe that Branson mentioned his experiences with omegas in heat quite so many times, I understand the concept and the reasoning behind it well enough, but given how often it was repeated, I half expected him to pull out a résumé just to prove his credibility

All that aside, I found the story to be quite short, partly because the series of the events took place over the span of just a week and a few days, and partly because not a whole lot actually happened. I really liked Lucien as a character, I would have loved to see more of his development and get to know him better haha. Beyond that, I enjoyed the romance, even if it felt a bit superficial.

One thing I did absolutely love, however, was this particular take on the Omegaverse universe and how the heat worked, and I will definitely be looking forward to future books (If there will be any)

This is what I want from a high-heat omegaverse!

Trapped by a blizzard in a remote cabin with the stoic alpha brother of his ex-boyfriend turned bestie, Lucien thinks things couldn’t get any worse. Then he realizes he forgot to bring his suppressant meds, and all signs point to an oncoming heat…

Lucien is my favorite kind of Jesse character. He is neurotic, demanding, and masking insecurity with heavy use of sarcasm. I love him. Branson is your typical alpha character (protective, sweet, totally whipped), but holy hell, the PINING! It’s softer than some of her work, but so poignant. Light on plot and heavy on steam, with just enough characterization to keep it interesting, this is perfect if you’re looking for a spicy snack. Mpreg does exist in this world, but it barely features. Highly recommended for readers of omegaverse or fans of Jesse’s signature pining.
