Trouble on Ice

Rate this book
Joelle St. Pierre thought one reckless night in London would be easy to forget.
One drink.
One dance.
One stranger she was never meant to see again.
Until she does.
Running into Emmett again is the last thing she expects, especially when he turns out to be the captain of the Manhattan Mavericks and her brothers’ teammate.
Suddenly, their one-night escape isn’t so simple.

Emmett Black lives by rules.
The team comes first.
Distractions end careers.
And teammates’ sisters are strictly off-limits.
What Emmett doesn’t expect is Joelle, who is smart, tempting, and impossible to ignore, especially when her hands are on him in the therapy room.
She is the one woman he knows he should walk away from.
But he can’t.

What began as one night months earlier turns into stolen moments, heated glances, and something neither of them planned to feel.
If the truth comes out, it won’t just break hearts.
It could destroy the team.

With loyalty pulling them one way and desire pulling them the other, Joelle and Emmett must decide what matters more … the rules they live by or the love they never expected to find.

When love crosses the one line that should never be crossed, will they give in to temptation, or will it end in trouble on the ice?

I loooooved TROUBLE ON ICE!

As always when I pick up a new book from Author JA Low, I resent putting it down to do lifey stuff, and TROUBLE ON ICE absolutely met that standard. I loved it. It’s book three in the Manhattan Mavericks ice-hockey series but can be read as a stand-a-lone, although I highly recommend starting with the first two, because you’ll get to meet Joelle St Pierre’s brothers who feature heavily, both playing on the team that Emmett Black captains.

TROUBLE ON ICE hits the ground hot and running. It’s a meeting of kindred spirits, both hate socialising unnecessarily and both were shoe-horned out by their friends. I loved that Ms Low ramped the chemistry straight to high and they had a one-night-stand that left a lasting impression on both of them. First kisses are one of my favourite moments in a book if they make me take notice, and full marks to this one! Check this;

“This kiss is different from any I’ve had in a long while. This is claiming as his hand fists in my hair, angling my head exactly where he wants it. His other hand grips my waist, fingers digging in hard enough to leave marks. He tastes like whiskey and want, and I can't get enough.”

Later that night though, Joelle panicked and bailed;

“He doesn't wake. I leave without a note. Without a number. It is what it is. This was never going to be anything more than what it was, a beautiful night together. A night I will never forget.”

I was gutted for Emmett when he did wake up however, the writing of Ms Low perfectly conveying his feelings of extreme disappointment;

“No proof she was ever here except the marks on my body and the ache in my chest I don't want to acknowledge. I brace my hands on the sink and stare at my reflection. You knew this was a one-night thing. I did. I do. Still feels like I got hit with a slapshot to the ribs, though.”

*sigh*
I have no idea how Ms Low made me feel sorrier for Emmett than for Joelle when they both continued to be as equally affected by their hot as hades night together!!!!

Seriously, the book may switch down the tempo between them somewhat when they meet again, being the strongly forbidden trope that it was. It was Emmett’s own rules that team-mates don’t date each other’s sisters, but don’t mistake that for any taming in the chemistry! Oh, noooooooooo. Emmett and Joelle knew what was at stake and they did a great job in honourably trying to deny themselves. Those texts between them, however........👀🔥🔥🔥

I’ll admit to some frustration with Joelle’s vacillation as to whether a risk was worth taking in openly dating Emmett in the way of organisation policy, but it was evident in the end that this was exactly the vibe that Ms Low was wanting to achieve. Regardless of whether our well-meaning hero stoically says, ‘I won’t let anything happen to your career or reputation’, it is the woman in any secret or forbidden relationship who takes the brunt of the censure from all directions. We knew how deeply Emmett had fallen, but Jo didn’t and she was the one to be putting everything on the line.

I’m way over-cooked on the protective brothers dictating who their adult sisters are allowed to date, especially when they themselves were guilty of abysmal behaviour. (I’ll digress here to highly recommend book 2 in this series, HEARTS ON ICE; I looooove a redeemed hero!!) But, it is a talented writer who makes me take pause and question whether the reaction of our heroine’s brothers was hypocritical or justified. Ms Low is that author, and in my mind, significantly added to the thought processes going on in not only the brother’s heads, but mine as well. Joelle not only magnificently stood her ground, but she counter-attacked and called them out on their attitudes.

I’ve already recommended TROUBLE ON ICE from Author JA Low in a forum calling for romances that start with a one-night stand. Add in the tropes involving a hockey romance, spicy-chemistry-ridden-slow-burn (yep JA Low makes it a thing, I reckon), he-falls-hardest, team-mates-sister, along with forbidden-romance and you have an amazing read that will be difficult to put down. That’s why I recommend it and put it at 5-hawt-hockey-romance-Stars 🖤🏒💙✦

Emmett and Joelle

A night in London changes everything. Emmett and Jo meet one night out when they recognize a familiar look in one another…would rather be anywhere else but here look. Emmett’s friends, as well as Joelle’s friends, dragged them out for a night of fun. The groups join up and Emmett and Joelle leave…together.

Now, if you don’t know who Joelle is, she is the sister of Felix and Pierre. (Books 1 and 2) The books run simultaneously, kind of, but I would still read in order. Joelle lives in London and misses her siblings. After everything happened with Pierre, their other sister, Collette, and both brothers, Felix and Pierre, all end up in the US. Joelle will certainly have a shock when she meets her brother’s teammates.

Emmett has a hard time forgetting the girl in London. But the hockey season has started, he's the Captain of the team, and has a job to do. One of the rules he sets for his team, no dating teammate’s sisters. This should get interesting.

Such a fun book to read. From the night in London until the end, all of it was entertaining. Love the teammates banter. Can’t wait to see if Collette is next. I would have liked a bit more towards the end, as it ends quite abruptly, but still a very good read.

Joelle St. Pierre believes her spontaneous night in London will stay in the past. She went out with friends when she lived in London. One drink, one dance, and one stranger she never expects to see again after she snuck out the next morning. Everything changes when she moves to NYC for a new job working in the same hockey team that her brothers play on. Imagine her shock when her siblings throw a welcome home party and in walk the man she hasn’t stopped thinking about. What is worse is the man is her brother’s teammate, Emmett Black, who happens to be captain of the Manhattan Mavericks.
Emmett is known for his discipline and commitment to his team. He follows strict rules, especially when it comes to avoiding distractions and staying away from teammates’ sisters. However, repeated encounters with Joelle make it difficult to keep distance, particularly as their lives continue to overlap both personally and professionally.
As their connection deepens in secret, the risks grow. If their relationship becomes public, it could disrupt team dynamics and threaten Emmett’s leadership.

I especially loved this book, with the main character being Joelle St Pierre - love a FMC as the focus.
It was brilliant to see all the other dross over characters from previous books cameo, especially the St Pierre boys and their lively partners.

With Joelle being a professional sports therapist also gave the storyline an interesting edge, as was the way they met.

I can honestly say that I do love a grumpy huge hunky man, so Emmett Black made for a brilliant male lead. The relationship journey was utterly beautiful to watch. I adored their banter and how explosive their sexual chemistry was.

The secrets, suspense and tension was extremely well written. The brother’s reaction was perfection as was the ending.

This book was a dream to read, I didn’t want it to end. Can’t wait to see what Jess writes next!

The tropes in this book are right up my street Hockey romance, team mate sister and work place

Loved it, Emmett and Joelle characters I loved right from the start, Emmett the grumpy tall dark handsome man, Joelle the quite reserved women who is bugged to go out to a club with friends whilst out she catches the eye of this grumpy quite guy who looks like she feels not really wanted to be in the club, these two get talking and there hit it off.

You guessed it there have a one night stand, jump a few months later this is where Jess excels with her writing a team mates sister who are off limits this had me turning the page to see how this turns out.

If you love the few tropes i have mention then this is your book

Could read about these two every day🥰

Sibling and Workplace Romance

This may start with a one night stand, but know it's slow burnish. Not a bad thing, just a thing I thought was a bit different compared to the first book. This was cool because our favorite St Pierre boys and Mavericks still bring the found family and banter.

It starts in London but takes place in NYC. These two try so hard to deny this intense attraction to each other and everyone is so thankful when it finally happens, maybe a few exceptions. There's no crazy break-up sync always a HEA. It's a great story with some tid bits of wisdom in there. The end was beautiful. I love how her family interacts with them, especially Momma Claire.

This is the third book in the Manhattan Mavericks series and I think it's best to read the other books in the series first.
Joelle and Emmett's unforgettable one-night-stand becomes more, and I'm here for it !
The forbidden trope of the sister of a teammate is not my fav but the author plays it well.
I loved to come back to this universe, see Joelle brothers and the others and I loved the texting parts.
A very good read

Grumpy Captain Black, yes please!

I love JA Low’s books. Another blinder with Joelle and Emmett.
The Captain and his source of Trouble. Great characters, inc the St. Pierre brothers from the previous two books. Their sister Jo didn’t disappoint, next book; the final St Pierre sibling, Colette.

I absolutely adored Emmet, and how he did everything he could to prove to Jo that this wasn't a fling for him, he wanted her & he proved it to her. I think she also proved to him that she was serious about him, they didn't want to blow up each other's lives, they just wanted to be together.

I really enjoyed this book. I forgot how much I loved the St Pierre family and JA Low’s books. I loved how forbidden this story was between Emmett & Joelle. They’re so cute together. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, hopefully Collette and maybe Fish?!

This is, by far, the best book in the series. It's somewhere between repetitive and a slow burn though. Beware, they don't really get together until about 70% of the way through and by then I wanted to slap Jo for dithering.

Gahhhh! I loved this!

These two stole my heart! Awww they were sooooo cute, their nicknames, their secret texting, not so secretive looks- I love them. There was so much build up and suspense around their secrets and relationship, that even I felt wronged they were hiding it.

Every book brings a new favourite player and match, and this didn’t disappoint. Just the right amount of dark brooding alpha and her sass was just perfect. I never tire of JA lowe’s love matches

A chance hook up in London & a shocking 2nd meeting. Emmett & Jo fight their attraction with everything they’ve got but ultimately they fell in love in London before they knew who each other were.

Trouble on Ice is book 3 in the Manhattan Mavericks series.
Emmett Black is the gorgeous grumpy Captain that always follows the rules. As we know Rules are meant to be broken.
Joelle St. Pierre thinks that a one night stand will be easy to forget. How wrong she is.

One click now you won’t be disappointed.
