Gina Fogler writes stories that explore both tenderness and tension—the quiet strength it takes to endure and the shadows that shape who we become. She is the author of Letters to Women Like Me, a reflective collection written for women navigating heavy seasons, as well as the Chalk Drawings series, a psychological crime thriller that examines identity, survival, and the hidden patterns beneath ordinary lives.
Her writing moves between softness and suspense, exploring the emotional truths that connect people even in their darkest moments. Whether through intimate letters or atmospheric thrillers, Gina is drawn to the places where resilience, memory, and human complexity meet.
A wife and mother of two sons, Gina believes deeply in the power of stories to comfort, challenge, and remind readers that they are never as alone as they might feel.
Cold Harbor has had its fair share of problems. The city was gripped by the disappearance of five children years ago, where only chalk outlines remained. Detective Thomas Harris almost lost himself in the case. Now, the chalk outlines have returned to the city. However, this time it's his name in the lines. Locked doors, sealed windows, and walls cannot stop The Watcher. Can the detective solve the case and save the missing teenager or will he find himself trapped within the chalk lines?
The blurb really caught my eye, and the cover really gave me a feel for how the book was going to go. I quickly realized this book is very paranormal, and I'm not always great with paranormal storylines. The dread that the author was able to build through the story was really good, and I liked how she tried to pull me into the city along with the detectives. I did find at times the story lost its way and seemed to get bogged down by details. Several times I stopped to look if I had skipped back to a previous chapter accidentally because the characters were saying or doing almost the same thing they have previously said or done. Near the start of the book, we are shown the viewpoint of a missing girl, but then she seems to disappear until the very end. I had forgotten all about her. Overall, the bones of the story are really good, but I do feel the book could use some tightening. The book ends without much closure. I realize not every story ends cleanly, but I had expected a stronger end after over 450 pages.
Overall, I really appreciate what the author was trying to achieve with the book and I would highly recommend giving it a try (especially if you're good with paranormal stories). The atmosphere and the tension were great, and this book will definitely resonate with some readers.
In Chalk Drawings, Gina Fogler delivers a dark, ritualistic thriller that turns a familiar crime scene staple into a harbinger of pure dread. Detective Thomas Harris is a compellingly haunted protagonist, and the "Chalk Watcher" antagonist feels genuinely ominous, a killer who treats every outline as scripture and every victim as a promise. It’s a tense, atmospheric mystery that masterfully weaves together a cold case and a modern-day race against time, leaving you looking over your shoulder for the next white line on the pavement.
I picked up Chalk Drawings expecting a simple crime thriller, but it turned out to be much darker and more atmospheric than I imagined. The town of Cold Harbor almost feels like its own character. I really liked Detective Harris flawed, haunted, but still determined. The slow build of the mystery kept me hooked.
This book gave me chills in the best way. The idea of chalk outlines becoming part of a bigger mystery is creepy and original. Some parts are slow, but the tension builds steadily and the payoff is worth it.
I loved the mood of this book. It’s one of those stories where the setting feels heavy and quiet, like something bad is always just around the corner. If you like psychological crime stories with a little supernatural edge, this one is worth reading.
The writing style is very atmospheric and descriptive. Sometimes it felt a bit slow, but I appreciated how much attention the author gave to the emotional weight of the investigation. Harris is a character you really start to care about.
I really liked the concept of this story. The chalk drawings and the strange clues surrounding them create a creepy vibe that runs through the entire book. It felt like a mix of a detective story and a psychological thriller.
This book pulled me in from the very first page. The atmosphere is haunting and immersive, and the idea of chalk outlines appearing without bodies is incredibly chilling. I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
This book pulled me in from the very first page. The concept of chalk outlines with no bodies is chilling, and the tension never lets up. Detective Harris is a deeply layered character, and his past makes the story even more gripping. I couldn’t put it down
An absolutely haunting thriller. The writing is sharp, atmospheric, and full of suspense. Every chapter builds on the mystery, and the ending left me eager for the next installment. Gina Fogler has created something special here.
If you love dark, psychological mysteries, this is a must-read. The pacing is perfect, and the storyline is incredibly unique. The “Watcher” is one of the creepiest antagonists I’ve read in a long time.
I was hooked by the premise, but the execution is what really impressed me. The emotional depth of Detective Harris combined with the eerie case make this book unforgettable. A fantastic start to a series.
I picked this up on a whim and couldn’t put it down. The atmosphere is chilling from the very first page, and the whole chalk outline concept is so original it genuinely creeped me out. Detective Harris feels real flawed, haunted, and determined. I’m already hooked on this series.
If you love dark, psychological thrillers, this one delivers. The writing is sharp, the pacing is tight, and the mystery kept me guessing the entire time. The chalk symbolism is haunting and sticks with you long after you finish.
This is one of those books where you keep saying “just one more chapter”… and suddenly it’s 3 a.m. The concept is unique, the execution is solid, and the suspense is relentless. A fantastic start to a new series.
An incredibly strong debut for a series. It balances suspense, emotion, and mystery really well. If the rest of the Chalk Watcher series keeps this level of quality, it’s going to be something special.
This book pulled me in right away and didn’t let go. The mystery is layered and smart, and I loved how everything slowly connects. The chalk outlines are such a simple idea, but they’re used in a really haunting way.
I didn’t expect to get so emotionally invested, but I did. Harris is the kind of character you root for even when he’s struggling. The story has heart as well as suspense, which made it stand out for me.
There’s something deeply unsettling about this story in the best possible way. The idea that the chalk outlines mean something more gave me chills. Definitely one of the more memorable thrillers I’ve read recently.
As someone who loves dark mysteries, this novel was a perfect read. The tension builds slowly but steadily, and the sense of unease stays with you long after you finish a chapter.
I really appreciated how immersive this story felt. Cold Harbor practically becomes its own character. You can feel the fear spreading through the town, and it pulls you right into the investigation.
I loved the emotional depth of Detective Harris. His past and the Coldwater case add so much weight to the story. It’s not just about solving a crime it’s about confronting something unfinished.
The writing style is clean and vivid without being overly complicated. Every scene feels purposeful, and the tension never drops. You can tell a lot of thought went into crafting this story.
