It was a funny story but I wasn't able to get much meaning out of it. I like the ending because the protagonist gets what he deserves. It is a funny simple story. It didn't make an impact on me though so it gets 3 stars.

This story is covered in one missive blanket of irony and is actually really funny because of that. The main character is ridiculous, self absorbed, and quite frankly can only be visualized as the nerd emoji. The funniest part of the story is the overly animated 50s lingo that's used throughout like "Holy Toledo" as well as the main character's superiority complex making him sound like a complete idiot.

Honestly, I don't have any favorite characters. Because Petey, is unfortunately just focused in following the "trends" Next, I don't like the impatience in Max shulman in teaching fallacies to Polly. It seems like a mansplaining in my opinion. And Polly, I feel sorry for you. But I love the part that she learned from what Max taught her, and was able to recognize the fallacies in Max's arguments HAHHAHA BUT!! Omg I thought there's a character development in the ending, but omg she's not into Max shulman not because of his boastful men supremacy thingy, but because she likes Petey for having a racoon coat??!!!

Still, this reading is a good recommendation for everyone who wants to learn fallacies. It's a combination of fictional and academic genre. Really, a great read!

Special thanks to abo, for sharing this in her ig story. Was able to know and read it hihi.

I liked this story but I do feel like the narrator contradicted himself with his wording while he tried to make himself seem smart. for example in the first paragraph he says "I only eighteen". this doesn't sound smart and rather like a 2 year old learning to speak. he paints this picture that he is smart and how he chooses to word things it really doesn't seem like he's who he makes himself to see.

The story itself was good but the Narrator is pretentious, arrogant and tries to teach Polly logic to form her into the perfect trophy wife for himself. The narrator paints Polly as a dim witted but beautiful girl however I think based on how well she understood the fallacies and brought the Narrator down a peg she was at least a little smarter than what the narrator thought. In the end the narrator got the karma that he deserved.

I really liked the irony within the story and how Polly used what the narrator taught her against him. The author also utilized the dialogue within the story very well to add onto the point that logic can't beat emotion. We also get to see inside the narrators head which really adds to his character, his thoughts deeply contrast against what he's actually saying to the girl; tying into the title "Love is a Fallacy."

Leading a seminar on this was very enjoyable. The Irony was good and the main character was very unique making the story interesting. The arrogance of the Narrator getting karma at the end of the story was a very deserved twist making it enjoyable. I also like raccoons so I got to make a raccoon themed slideshow.

I really liked this story. Shulman's use of irony, similies and allusions really helped to solidify the purpose of the story. I think that the idea that Polly represents the people and the narrator represents society trying to force consumerism down our throats. With that being said I feel like I can relate a lot more to the story. Overall I rate it 8/10. Good soup.

10/10, I love that the narrator gets EXACTLY what he deserves. In an objective sense, he’s also a well written character in that you truly grow to despise him over the course of just a few pages. Polly is fantastic, and I see her as a feminist character in an otherwise male dominated story. The story also teaches you fallacies, which is kind of a cool side effect. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed.

Although the main character is insufferable, the themes that Shulman represents in this story are truly great. Simultaneously criticizing 20th century misogynism while being an allegory for the class war are just two of the many achievements that Shulman pulls of effortlessly. Sure to make you laugh and also ponder, "Love Is a Fallacy" is a good read.

I like this story a lot, mostly because the time period reflects its meaning so much. The men in this story think themselves higher than the women, so they feel the need to teach. It shows that everyone is on equal ground, even though we socially put each other down.

At first I didn’t enjoy this story because I didn’t like the narrator. As I read I met more characters and liked it. I really enjoyed all the irony this short story held. Polly really is the highlight of this story!

This story has an erectness of carriage , an ease of reading, a poise that clearly indicates the best of writing.

Cocky young man with an over the top narration. Fun read, I’m all for these kinds of stories.
