This clan treats humans as pets, playthings, or slaves, never valuing them beyond what they can be used for. The story leans into that brutality—bloodthirsty orcs who believe a heavily pregnant human woman is better off dead than protected. Seris faces danger at every turn, and the only thing standing between her and death is the orc who refuses to abandon her. Vargath will risk everything—his position, his future, even his life—to protect his mate and their unborn child. But with enemies inside his own clan, the question becomes whether he can keep them safe long enough for Seris to survive and give birth, or if their story will end in heartbreak.
Seris, a human translator, returns months after a single night with Vargath, hoping he’ll offer safety until her child is born. She’s prepared for him to reject her but hopes he’ll at least accept their baby. Instead, she’s turned away at the gate and treated like disposable human trash by the guards. Even after Vargath saves her from death, she’s still not safe—from his people, his future wife, or the clan’s council.
Vargath, known as the Bloodthirsty, is a 34‑year‑old warlord and the chieftain’s son, bound to an arranged marriage meant to secure the clan’s legacy. Months earlier, in a rare moment of weakness, he let a human woman slip past his defenses and into his heart. One night changed everything, but by morning he forced himself to walk away and forget the peace she brought him. Now he must choose between the future laid out for him and the family he never expected.
My personal pet peeve: How hard is it for authors to choose cover art that actually agrees with the descriptions they create for their characters?!? The FMC on this cover is platinum blonde and very pale skinned. HOWEVER, the *authors* describe her as ◼️dark haired (multiple times) and dark skinned◼️. It annoys me to no end.
This was actually a really good book, though. There were a few errors, but nothing distracting. The evolution of the MCs' relationship was compelling. In spite of that, I suppose I'm also docking the star for the fact that this book feels like dropping into the middle of a series. The MMC and his friend speak of another orc/human couple who've created a hidden haven for those in need of refuge. This couple's story seems to be a commonly known tale. The human half of that "mythical" couple later states that their story is complex and best told at another time. Then there is the child of the MCs, who was born to serve a purpose of an old god, and also rumors of a spirituality gifted human nearby. That's where the story ends, with the child just 6 months old and rumors of this special woman. There's no previous book with the other orc/human couple's story, and no following book with the child and special woman's further story. I appreciate that it doesn't feel like the world began and ended within this one book, but the writing was good enough to leave me frustrated without more.
Spice level: 🌶🌶🌶 out of 5. There wasn't a lot, but it was good!
This held my attention because the bones of a really stellar story are there. I was honestly hooked from the first pages and found the story and characters super compelling. The world felt visceral, Seris’s struggles with pregnancy felt harrowing and real. Vargath was interesting, if a little unlikable for most of the story. I get duty vs desire but I wanted more from him honestly. Seris is literally really put through the wringer, multiple times, and there’s not a ton of care for her.
But the main issue I have is the execution just felt shallow halfway there. Emotion scenes were glossed over or skipped entirely. Big scenes crucial to the story weren’t given the space they deserved. All secondary characters felt one dimensional and like cartoon villains. No one had depth or nuance. Vargath took too long to realize his feelings for Seris. I was irritated with him. Seris was unnecessarily snarky at times. And she survived things that required the suspension of reality. The whole left me feeling like it could have been stellar but fell flat.
And there were lots of plot inconsistencies that took me out of the story. Timelines were way off. Details were missed or changed etc. Felt a bit lazy in the writing/editing.
But, it was a fast read, hooked me with the premise and I finished it needing to know what happens. So 3 ⭐️
Wow, this has to have been the most heartfelt emotional read to date. The characters are without a doubt the most alluring addictive couple who defy all logic. From the beginning you anticipate the inevitable. Hope doesn't prepare you for what Seris endures.
The concept throughout this story leaves you with a bitter taste. The manipulation that Vargath experiences is devastating to say the least.
The corruption that bleeds through this story lures you in page after page. The fight to survive is boundless. Every twist and turn that Vargath and Seris live through is a testament to their devotion to each other.
Thankfully, this story does have a happy ending and I am blown away by how much I loved this book.
I love this world Celeste King and her co-authors create stories of love, loss, adventure, sacrifice, and reader satisfaction. Pregnant for the Orc King is a wonderful addition to this world.
A weary warlord burdened by duty that no longer makes sense. He encounters his human, very pregnant, not quite a mate at the stronghold he lives at while preparing to make a political alliance with an Orc female he has no feelings for. Things go from bad to worse until our war lord and his human baby mama make a life changing decision. No spoilers but I loved the adventure, their journey to love, and a HEA any reader will enjoy.
Hope there are more books with this group of survivors. Highly recommended.
This was an emotional dramatic Orc romance story to read. Our characters are an Orc, Vargath of Azhgar, the Bloodthirsty and the chieftain's son and our human translator Seris who's arrives at Vargath's clan pregnant seeking help on the cold snowy day. Vargath clan despises humans. The guards refuse to let her in and tell Vargath who's betroth to Korrath's daughter. Vargath who's been out fighting sees a commotion against the wall. Seris's prone body leans against the wall as he picks her up and carries her into his home. I'd found the characters likable as they face obstacles of being together in his clan. I'd volunteer to read and review this enjoyable copy I'd received.
I liked Seris and Vargath because they are strong characters and suited to one another. This story is backward it starts with Seris pregnant after one night together. She seeks out Vargath because he’s the father. They really didn’t know each other very well and have to learn about one another really for the second time. Seris is in danger from Zharra who is Vargath’s intended and quite evil. I will admit I gasped, which I’ve never done before while reading a book, when Vargath meted out his punishment to Zharra for hurting Seris. It’s quite a shocker. I liked the way it ended and the community they found.
I really liked this book. It was different and interesting! It had great lore and interesting characters. I enjoyed it. Plus good spice and action sequences!
