Folktales have always fascinated me. Whenever I read them, it almost feels like travelling to another world where imagination, culture, and human emotions come together. That feeling is exactly what I experienced while reading Folktales from Across the World.

This book is a collection of fifteen folktales gathered from different parts of the world. Initially, I assumed that most of the stories would come from well-known folklore traditions such as Russian, French, or Japanese. However, what surprised me the most was that the book also includes tales from lesser-known traditions like Belgian, Serbian, Scotch, and several others. Discovering stories from these cultures made the reading experience even more interesting and refreshing.

While reading folklore, I often experience a strange yet beautiful feeling. The stories come from places and cultures that are geographically distant from us, yet many of the emotions, values, and ideas within them feel very familiar. It creates a unique connection where something distant suddenly feels close. I find that to be one of the most magical aspects of folktales.

Another thing that stood out to me in this book is the artwork. The illustrations are beautifully done in blue and white tones, and they enhance the reading experience significantly. These visuals complement the stories perfectly and make it even easier to imagine the magical worlds and characters described in the tales.

Overall, Folktales from Across the World is a wonderful collection of fifteen folktales that offers readers a glimpse into different cultures and storytelling traditions. It is an enjoyable read for anyone who loves folklore, mythology, or cultural stories. More than anything, this book leaves you curious and interested to explore even more folktales from around the world.

"The old wife sang merrily as she sat in the inglenook stirring the soup, for she had never felt so sad. Many, many years had come and gone, leaving the weight of their winters on her shoulders and the touch of snow on her hair, without ever bringing her a little child."

I've read a lot of folktales till date. Be it Indian, Chinese, or Japanese, I've had the opportunity and been one of the lucky ones to read the sagas. However, this is the very first time I'm getting more lucky to read folktales from all over the globe in a single book.

These folktales made me mesmerized about all the wonderful, diverse cultures across the globe. By reading about everything under a single roof, you don't just learn to appreciate, but also wonder about the similarities at the root level.

The book 'Folktales from Across the World' is a cute collection of fifteen stories, mainly aimed at children. They have illustrations that make the reading even more enjoyable. The stories are easy to understand even to the early readers. Each of these stories teaches a lot of life lessons to children.

The kids can not just learn from these stories, but also benefit from appreciating and imagining how each culture is like. As for the kids' POV is concerned, I felt that the writing was good, the pace was slow and easy, and the stories had a lot of depth in them.

Folktales from Across the World felt like opening a treasure chest of stories I didn’t know I needed. Each tale is short, crisp, and rooted in different cultures, which makes the reading experience so refreshing. It’s almost like listening to different storytellers from around the world, each with their own voice and flavor.

I loved how these stories don’t try to over-explain themselves. They are simple, sometimes even abrupt, just like traditional folktales are meant to be. And yet, they leave behind thoughts, lessons, or even just a feeling you can’t quite put into words.
But the best part for me? The nostalgia. Reading them genuinely took me back to childhood, those days when stories were magical, uncomplicated, and full of wonder. It reminded me of sitting with storybooks or listening to my grandmother without worrying about anything else. In this fast world that often feels bleak, rushed, and monotonous, this book brought a surprising amount of joy and comfort. The illustrations also add a lovely charm creating that visual imagination.

If you enjoy folklore, mythology, or just want something light yet meaningful, this is a comforting, feel-good read that reconnects you with the simple joy of storytelling.

There is something timeless about folktales. Even though they come from different countries and cultures, the emotions and lessons they carry always feel familiar. Folk Tales From Across the World by Bee Books is a beautiful collection that brings together traditional stories from many parts of the world including Lithuanian, Irish, French, English, Korean, Greek, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and more 🥹

The collection includes many fascinating tales such as the Greek myth "Eros and Psyche", the touching Russian fairy tale "Snegorotchka", the adventurous Japanese story "Urashima Taro", and magical stories like "The Blue Bird" and "The Serpent Prince".

Each story reflects the culture it comes from while still exploring universal themes like kindness, courage, loyalty, cleverness and the consequences of our choices.

Honestly, it’s quite hard to pick just one favourite because every story carries its own charm and message. I really enjoyed exploring each tale and discovering how different cultures express similar emotions and life lessons through storytelling.

⭐ What I really liked is that the stories are short and easy to read, making it perfect to enjoy one story at a time. The illustrations throughout the book add warmth and charm, making the reading experience feel even more magical and immersive.

The cover itself is absolutely beautiful and eye catching. The illustrations of mythical creatures, magical symbols and folklore inspired elements perfectly capture the spirit of the stories inside. It immediately gives that feeling of stepping into a world full of legends, fantasy and timeless tales.

While this book is mainly aimed at younger readers, I truly believe anyone who loves stories can enjoy it. It’s a wonderful way to discover how different cultures share their wisdom through storytelling, and how these tales continue to connect people across generations 💯💯

This book gathers stories the way people once did by listening, remembering, and passing them on. 'Folktales from Across the World' brings together fifteen short tales from different cultures, each carrying its own mood, setting, and moral rhythm. The collection doesn’t rush. It gives every story a space to breathe the air of folks.

The writing style is simple , precise and child-friendly where every sentence flows easily, making the book suitable for independent readers as well as read-aloud sessions. Some stories feel playful, engaging and mischievous while others slow down and turn the attention of the readers to be thoughtful. That variation keeps young readers engaged while gently introducing them to different ways people explain the world.

Illustrations play an important role which I like the most and steal my attention. They don’t overpower the text. Instead, they support it adding context, emotion, and visual cues that help children follow unfamiliar settings or characters.

What works best is balance. The book doesn’t treat folktales as lessons wrapped in disguise. Messages about kindness, cleverness, courage, and consequence emerge naturally in this book through literary action and outcome. Children can enjoy the story first and reflect on the events later.

Parents and educators will appreciate how the collection opens conversations about culture without becoming instructional and help them to guide their children in the journey of understanding culture. Each tale feels rooted in place yet easy to relate to. Human behavior stays at the center.

'Folktales from Across the World' succeeds because it respects its audience. It trusts children to listen, imagine, and understand. In doing so, it keeps an old storytelling tradition alive in a quiet and warm with care.

"Folktales from Across the World" is an amazing collection of folktales and fables that celebrate the beauty of our imaginations and the wisdom we share throughout all cultures. This compiled collection was published by BEE Books; inside you'll find tales from Lithuania, Ireland, Norway, Korea, Scotland, Greece, Russia, England, Flanders, and others each with its own unique sound and magical qualities.

This collection of fables includes stories about a family with a snake, a warrior with incredible strength, a sword that splits stones, and the classic love story of Eros and Psyche. Though all of the stories are short, each one is rich with meaning and provides valuable lessons about bravery, love, loyalty, and the unknowns of destiny. The reader friendly design will allow children to enjoy these stories; however, adults will experience again the magic of verbal storytelling.

The added illustrations enrich the book's content. The illustrations are imaginative, colorful, playful and rooted in traditional cultural themes and provide readers with an image of the mythological being and the enchanted setting. The combination of text and illustrations creates a reading experience that is both reminiscent of the past and new at the same time.

There are many things that make the book interesting; however, one of the most appealing is the variety of cultures represented in the stories. You travel from Russian snow maidens to Korean daughters through Norse giants to Irish heroes, and every story gives you a glimpse into the soul of another culture.

All in all, "Folktales from Across the World" is an exciting experience that all humans have in common: our love for stories. Therefore, if you are a daydreamer or lover of folktales, or anyone who enjoys the wonder of storytelling, this book would be a perfect addition to your collection.

The artwork complements the magical tone of the traditional folktales, making the reading experience visually immersive and especially enjoyable for readers who appreciate illustrated folklore collections.

Before books existed, there were stories whispered across generations—and this book brings some of them between two covers.
Folktales and myths form the basis of oral traditions. It is through these incredible tales that communities derive their identity. The core memory of everyone's childhood is to sit with their elders and listen to these stories passed down through time. Long before the written word, people knew how to convey morals and meanings through storytelling.
'Folktales from Across the World' brings a collection of fifteen stories spanning across different regions and eras—Russian, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Korean are to name a few. The writing is simple, enchanting and employs magic, fantasy and the supernatural into narratives, making them engaging for children and adults who enjoy reading folktales and myths. These are the tales of fantastical animals, dutiful daughters and brave, wandering princes. The illustrations add a beautiful touch to the reading experience, breaking it's rhythm and inviting imagination. Together, they effortlessly celebrate the universal themes of love, unity, courage and wisdom, and the similarities between different cultures that are otherwise separated by geography. From a Norse tale of the magical blue belt that grants the owner magical powers to the love shared by two sisters in a Flemish fairytale, the book invites you to the spellbinding worlds and makes you want to stay there.
'Folktales from Across the World' invites readers to rediscover into the magic of storytelling and reconnects them to the diverse narratives of various cultures that have shaped human experience through ages.

The cover of the books draws attention of the reader through its use of silhouette forms. It features an unicorn, a phoenix, a centaur, a mermaid and serpents. The whole lot of diversified personifications of myths and legends. Through this varied portrayal the book promises a journey that transcends borders and centuries.

The book offers an anthology of tales across continents and oceans - from the icy Tundras of Scandanavia to the sun-scorched plains of sub-Saharan Africa.

The achetypes adorning the book as a lesson are:

The Trickster - Anasi the spider or Reynard the fox

The Hero's quest - tales mirroring monomyths

Mythical guardians - sirens, dragons and othermysterious forces of nature.

The delicately balanced retelling through simple prose attract young readers. Yet, the rhythmic, oral quality is retained which pays homage to the traditional roots of these stories. The essence of each culture is witheld with grace and gives off the warmth of a global campfire.

The digital world with its vast data and consumerables have become fragmented. The books can be a link to moral compass and  emotions like empathy, joy and fear. It is easy to see monsters in books with a specific form within a story. However, in real life only the characteristics are visible and evil does not have a specific form. The stories helps us identify these subtle ques to better navigate life in reality.

The book is a good addition to a reader's personal library. It honors different cultures of our vast world while remaining true to the fact that we all possess a shared DNA. This book delivers a powerful and enchanting experience.

If you enjoy reading short stories, this book is perfect for you.

Accompanied by breathtaking illustrations, it features legends and folktales from Ireland, Belgium, Korea, Scotland, Russia, Japan, and beyond. Each tale is approximately 10 to 20 pages long, with a nice build-up and a satisfactory ending.

Growing up, I read many collections of Indian folktales, but I never had the opportunity to explore global folklore. Therefore, reading this book was a particularly enriching experience. Beyond familiar stories such as Eros and Psyche and Urashima Tarō, there are several wonderful tales about mysterious countryside happenings that will keep you hooked.

This book has truly supported my newly adopted habit of reading something every day. Reading a folktale before bedtime became a ritual I looked forward to, and the light fiction provided a refreshing escape from daily stresses. I will really miss finishing this book!

The collection is cleverly compiled. Each story leaves you feeling happier, making it difficult to pick a favourite. Some tales include Old English or obscure words, so having Google at hand can be helpful. One story, in particular, is a creative gem for aspiring writers – an interesting mix of prose, poetry, and repetition, crafted into a fable about suitors vying for the queen of Mississippi.

Overall, this is a valuable addition to any literary collection. The added bonus of exploring different cultures makes it all the more delightful. I would highly recommend it for anyone ready to discover magical stories that linger long after the last page.

There’s something timeless about folktales—the way they travel across generations, carrying culture, wisdom, and imagination with them. Folktales from Across the World is a delightful collection that brings together 15 short stories from different cultures and countries, creating a small literary journey across continents.

What I loved most about this book is the variety of tales. Some are familiar classics like the story of Eros and Psyche, while others are lesser-known gems such as “The Oat Cake” from Scotland, which made the reading experience feel both nostalgic and refreshing. Each story reflects the values, beliefs, and storytelling traditions of its culture, making the collection feel rich and diverse.

One story that stood out to me was Urashima Taro. Reading it instantly reminded me of an episode from Doraemon I watched as a child that referenced the same legend, so revisiting it in its original folktale form felt strangely surreal and nostalgic. Another memorable story was “The Bird Feng” from China**, which was incredibly vivid and heavy with imagery, giving it a mythic and almost dreamlike quality.

The illustrations throughout the book are beautiful, adding visual charm and enhancing the atmosphere of the stories. While the language can sometimes feel a little dense—as folktales often are—it ultimately adds to their authenticity and traditional tone.

Overall, this collection feels like a small window into the storytelling traditions of the world, making it a lovely read for anyone who enjoys myths, folklore, and cultural tales.

Folktales have been around for centuries and are loved and treasured because they carry this magical, enchanting quality. Each story holds a hidden piece of advice or a moral, and unpacking them is so delightful.

Storybooks have always had a special place in my heart. Ever since I was a child, one thing I truly enjoyed while relishing my meals was reading them. Whether it was flipping through Arabian Nights, Panchatantra, or even Tinkle, I always needed a story to fully enjoy my food. Now, reading Folktales From Across the World by Bee Story brought back that same comforting feeling of nostalgia.

Coming to the content of the book, it's fascinating to say the least. The book contains fifteen stories from different parts of the world. From Korean to Flemish to Greek tales, the variety is wonderful. The language in the book is simple but charming, with a mix of modern English and touches of early-modern style, which gives it a classic folktale feel.

Each story is accompanied by beautiful illustrations that help guide your imagination in the right direction, which, in my opinion, is definitely a plus.

Some of my favourite stories were The Serpent Prince, The Dutiful Daughter, and The Oat Cake. I also really enjoyed the poetic verses in The Seven Conquerors of the Queen of Mississippi. Every story leaves you with something to think about, and each one feels wholesome in its own way.

This book is a lovely addition to any collection. Both children and adults can enjoy these stories, and I must add, the cover is absolutely beautiful.

Folktales from Across the World is a captivating collection of folktales and fairy tales drawn from different corners of the world, each carrying the charm, wisdom and imagination of its culture. Spanning continents and centuries, the collection beautifully reflects how storytelling, despite its many forms, remains a thread that quietly connects us all.

What I particularly enjoyed about this book is the sense of discovery it offers. Each story transports you to a new place, allowing you to experience traditions and beliefs that feel both unique and familiar. No two tales feel alike, which makes the reading experience both refreshing and engaging. The addition of simple illustrations enhances the stories without overwhelming them, adding a gentle visual charm that complements the narratives.

The tales themselves are rich with enchanting elements — mythical creatures, cursed princes, dutiful daughters and powerful gods and goddesses. While some stories feel light and whimsical, others carry deeper moral undertones, leaving you with something to reflect on even after finishing them. Among the many stories, Eros and Psyche, The Story of Conn-Eda, The Dutiful Daughter and The Serpent Prince stood out to me the most.

Overall, this collection is perfect for anyone who enjoys stories that are both magical and meaningful. It’s a reminder of how stories, no matter where they come from, have the power to connect, teach and inspire.

This enchanting collection of folktales from around the world is nothing short of a magical escape into the realms of imagination. Featuring 15 beautifully curated stories, the book effortlessly blends adventure, fantasy, and timeless wisdom. Each tale feels like a gentle bedtime story, yet carries a depth that resonates with readers of all ages.

What truly elevates the experience are the stunning imaginary illustrations that accompany the narratives. They don’t just decorate the pages; they breathe life into the stories, making every scene more vivid and immersive. From the very first glance, the cover page sparks instant joy, setting the tone for the journey within.

As I read, I found myself transported into a world of magic where reality faded away. The storytelling is so engaging that I often felt like I was part of the tale itself, walking alongside the characters and sharing in their adventures. It beautifully rekindles the wonder of childhood while still captivating the mature imagination of adult readers.

Among all the stories, The Blue Bird stood out as my personal favorite, leaving a lasting impression with its charm and emotional depth. The narrative style throughout the book is warm, fluid, and deeply comforting.

This book is more than just a collection of stories. It is a gateway to childhood, a reminder of simpler times, and a perfect read for anyone seeking a little magic in their day.

There is something quietly comforting about this book. Folktales from Across the World does not try to impress you with complexity. Instead, it pulls you in with simple storytelling that feels both familiar and new at the same time.

This collection brings together tales from different cultures including Greek, Korean, Russian, and Chinese traditions. What stayed with me is how similar the emotions feel across all these stories. Love, longing, courage, and curiosity show up again and again, just in different settings and voices. It makes you realise how deeply connected human experiences are, no matter where we come from.

Some stories felt like childhood memories, even if I had never read them before. Others were completely new but still carried a sense of warmth. That is the beauty of folktales. They do not rely on twists or fast pacing. They rely on meaning.

The writing is simple and easy to follow, which makes it a very calming read. It is not a book you rush through. You pick it up when you want something gentle and grounding, read a story or two, and sit with it for a while.

The endearing collection Folktales from Across the World features fifteen tales from many nations including China, Russia, Korea and Japan. With straightforward captivating language that appeals to both adults and younger readers. The book masterfully captures the spirit of traditional storytelling. Every story develops organically incorporating themes like bravery, generosity and ingenuity without seeming forced. The prose has a warmvsentimental quality that makes readers think of their early years spent listening to their grandmother's tales.

The creative and vibrant pictures which give the characters and surroundings life without overpowering the stories are what really make the experience better. The cover is equally striking and sets the mood for the enjoyable voyage that lies within.

The Japanese folktale which sticks out for its subtle yet potent lesson about humility and inner strength is my favorite story in the anthology. It was particularly remarkable since its emotional intensity persisted long after reading.

I suggest this book because it subtly and meaningfully connects readers to cultures around the world in addition to providing entertainment. It fosters creativity, empathy and a greater understanding of storytelling customs. It's a reassuring classic book.

Just like any other folk tales and ghost stories i have read from Beeb books this too was heart touching.

You will find inspiration in them you will find joy and ache that feels familiar.

From the stories to the illustrations I loved everything about it I very much enjoy reading these short stories it gives me perspective feels personal, the writing like it's calling to me, it's meant for me.
I think if I can connect so much and learn so much about humanity in these lines in these beautiful pages of ink then I think the writer won my heart(these are translated stories from various languages though) it's so worth it to read them and it doesn't seem like a burden because of the short chapters and different storylines and perspective in every single one of them.
Just peruse and settle on any one and you will feel calm at least to me it's that way only.

When I sit with a single story I read it leaves an impression on me that somehow I find it lingering inside me becoming a part of me becoming one with me.

With a particle of truth and a meaning, a depth so deep and warm. I love the stories and sometimes I even want to cry this a beautiful beautiful book booknerds you must read it once if you get the chance.

Just finished Reading "Folktales from across the world". It's a collection of folk tales and fables from all over the globe, compiled by BEE Books. This collection is comprised of folk stories from Lithuania, Ireland, Norway, Korea, Scotland, Greece, Russia, England, and Flanders. Each story is charming in its own way, however, combined with other stories in the collection provide a reminder of the universal wisdom that exists among the world.

Through reading these stories I rediscovered the richness of reading. Though I found them short. They were full of deep meaning and provided many significant lessons that can be applicable to everyday life. Among the stories were two that featured a family and a snake. As well as a powerful warrior with a magical sword, and Eros' and Psyche's everlasting love. As a reader, I also rediscovered the magic of reading.

There are multiple voices present in this anthology, from Russian snow maidens and Korean daughters to Norse giants and Irish heroes. Each story transports the reader to another life and another world.

The collection offers inspiration to dreamers and storytellers and is a nice addition to any library of those who value how stories can inspire the imagination. I'd rate this book 4.2/5.

"Folktales from Across the World" is a delightful collection of stories gathered from different countries such as Korea, Russia, France, Greece, Japan, and many more.

As a first time reader of folktales, I was initially hesitant to pick up this book but once I began, I was completely immersed. The stories have a magical charm that makes you feel like a child again. Bedtime reading easily turns into a comforting daily ritual with this collection. Not only children, but adults too will find themselves drawn into these timeless tales.

The language stays true to its original essence while remaining simple and easy to understand, which makes the reading experience even more enjoyable.

Some of my favorite stories from the book are The Dutiful Daughter, The Buried Moon, Snegorotchka, and The Blue Bird. Each story is engaging and beautifully narrated you’ll often find it hard to stop midway and will want to finish it in one sitting.

The illustrations and the cover design are equally captivating and add to the overall charm of the book.

I would highly recommend this book to both children and adults who enjoy soothing, magical bedtime stories.

folktales have always felt like little doors to different worlds, and this book truly captures that feeling. folktales from across the world is a collection of fifteen short stories, and to be honest, it feels like traveling without moving. the most surprising part was the variety of folktales, both known and unknown, from different countries like russia, japan, belgium, serbia, and many more, which makes the experience of reading this book so fresh and exciting.
the stories are simple, easy to read, and yet so full of emotions, values, and life lessons. there is something so beautiful about the folktales that come from the farthest of places, but at the same time, they feel so familiar and connected to us because of the common values that are portrayed in the story, like love, courage, and kindness.
i also loved the illustrations, the use of blue and white makes the story feel even more magical. the overall feel of the book is comforting, nostalgic, and meaningful, and i would say that this book is perfect for anyone who wants to read something light but at the same time meaningful.

Folktales have always carried a certain charm for me especially of different regions and that's why this book had drawn me instantly. Stories that travel across cultures and generations often bring with them magic, wisdom and a glimpse into different worlds. Reading Folktales from Across the World felt like stepping into many such worlds, each story opening a small window into different traditions and beliefs.

The book brings together a variety of tales filled with mythical creatures, adventures and lessons that have been passed down for years. The writing remains simple and easy to follow, which allows the stories themselves to shine. The illustrations also add a beautiful touch and make the reading experience more engaging.

Among all the tales included in the collection, the story of Eros and Psyche easily became my most favorite. The emotional depth of the story, Psyche’s trials and the enduring theme of love and trust made the tale especially memorable. It is one of those stories that stays with the reader long after it is finished.

Overall, the book offers a pleasant collection of stories from different parts of the world. For readers who enjoy mythology, folklore and short magical tales, this collection makes for a warm and enjoyable read.

Folktales from Across the World

Folktales are something I would never say no to. I love them dearly. Something that’s a beautiful story with beautiful wisdom and morals in the end. Stories are from Italian, Lithuanian, Korean, Greek, Russian, Chinese and much more.

I picked this one for the cover mainly. It’s a collection of 15 stories selected across the world. Various beautiful stories. I was quite intrigued by them. The writing was simple, yet it was etched in your heart. I got to read many folktales, but this was unique, and selective titles were written. I loved how they were so unique to read. It took me to my childhood where I loved folktales more than anything. The different cultures were so unique, and getting to know them was interesting. There are some of my favorite stories: The Buried Moon, The Dutiful Daughter, and The Blue Bird. The illustrations were so beautiful in each chapter. After reading Chinese Folktales from beebooks I badly wanted to pick this one. A timeless and classic book I would say.

Definitely a must-read for the adults as well as kids.

Find stories that seem familiar, or appear to be an inspiration for modern stories and films. Find stories that feel so real but are imaginary as can be. Find stories that make you laugh or keep you confused, make you think or leave you amused.

This collection of stories is the perfect bouquet of tales that must have at some point been told from grandma to grandchild and passed on as memorable heirlooms.

It is a dive into the fantasy world and just perfect for kids of all ages! Bedtime stories or just for coffee conversations. Pick this book for the cover but keep it for the fantasies..

Some translations aren't accurate but that just adds to the charm of reading from different global languages..

P.S. my daughter finished it before I could even open it and now she wants more such collections.

This is a book that can take you on several journeys across time and space - from Korea to the Nordic fireside. I could imagine myself sitting by a fire, or encircling a bard, as the stories unfolded. Each story has something to tell about the culture from which it arose. You just have to pay attention.

The illustrations in the book were my favourite, dotting the reading experience with visuals. The selection is also commendable, covering many corners of the world. The inclusion of Irish and Eastern European cultures was especially enjoyable, as these collections are hardly available in India.

The book is easy to read, lightweight, and perfect if you're travelling or busy with work. It lets you pause and read at your own pace. The simplicity of the language also makes it suitable for readers of all ages and backgrounds. It makes a great gift for your fellow readers.
