I enjoyed this story. Duke Ronan was considered to be reclusive. Thalia was desperate for a husband to look after her and Olivia, the child she had adopted. When Ronan finally decided to re-enter society he attended a ball. Thalia took the chance to find herself a husband by compromising Ronan so he was forced to marry her. Their relationship was awkward but Olivia helped to smooth the way for them. She loved Ronan and was happy to encourage him to play with her. Ronan was determined not to fall in love with Thalia but Thalia was falling in love with him. However, Lord Westmere was determined to ruin their marriage. Would he succeed? Although I enjoyed the story, it does need much better proof-reading. There are a number of instances where the character names are mixed up. Apparently, the Duke had ten butlers. Surely that should be ten footmen. The name of the Head of Staff (the actual butler) changes from Albert to Reginald. There are several Americanisms like "so darn excited" which would not have been acceptable in Regency England.
A very touching story of a man withdrawn from all, after suffering an abusive childhood that ended with him shooting his father in self defense. A woman, rejected by society when she left home and returned with a child. Desperate to find safety and security, she falls in his arms at a ball getting caught by others, he married her. What follows is their journey to finally realize and accept that they love each other. I will have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the ending when Thalia punches Lord Windmere in the nose twice and Ronan’s response was priceless. I’ve read all 3 books in this series, but where is Cassien’s story?
A story of fear, a daughter in need of protection and a bargain . Ms. Brookes has written of the Wicked Dukes and their marriages. I have read them all and Ronan was the last on left unmarried until this one, very well written! Will not spoil it for you but well worth reading! Loved that a child is involved and the turning point in the story!
Thalia meets Ronan, the Duke, at a ball & marriage follows soon due to garden circumstances..both have rumors about their circumstances.. But Thalia can take only so much & has plans only she knows…
Anachronisms left right and centre. Virus!! Lack of research. 15 butlers!! Geographical confusion. Hackneyed storyline, ‘ cruel beast of a father’ I am becoming my father and no way to stop it. Etc
Disappointed in this book. Not enough character development and the flow of the story was rushed without contributing elements for a more solid narrative.
I liked the story. Two people who learned to care for one another. Problem is the book should have been proof read better. Names changing and getting mixed up.
