A madman, organizing Seattle's serial killers to take the Emerald City down is one step ahead of Darc, the lead detective with Asperger's and Trey, his not very stoic partner.
Can they catch the madman and end the cult? Or will Seattle slip into the sea?
I received this book free from the author, and that did not influence my review of this book.
This is another very good thriller in the Darc Murders series, following a fast-paced chase of a serial murderer around Seattle. Darc, a detective with Aspergers, interprets the symbols left behind by the murderer to decipher his next move. It's incredibly interesting to hear from the different characters in the book, as they each take turns being the center of the story. You start to realize that Janey is very similar to Darc in the way she sees the world. You also start to see that Darc is changing. He's becoming more aware of those around him and the relationships that are important to them. A lot of this book deals with Darc's growth and how he's learning to feel emotion. When we first met him, he disregarded emotions as superfluous. Now Darc is understanding how Janey uses emotions and relationships to help with the murder investigations - which in turn changes Darc.
This book shines when a new clue unfolds and Darc speeds away to the next crime scene. The writing pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. Parts of it are a little gory, but it adds to the overall intensity of the book.
I've enjoyed this series of books and the final chapter in this set was the perfect ending to the 3-part story. The first part of the book was a little slower than the previous two books but that was because the author was trying to set up more of the relationships within the characters and how they have progressed since the first book in the series. As usual there were some very good ha-ha moments that had me laughing out loud, especially with Trey & Janey; those two characters are a perfect foil for some of the heavier moments in the books. The way the author was able to write the characters mannerisms, looks and everything was done extremely well. For instance, the social worker in the book, the author had me wanting to grab through the book & throttle the guy myself. In the previous book I knew part ways into it who the most likely person was to be the killer but in this book that was completely not the case; then with the red herrings distributed throughout the book it kept you guessing and thinking "wow, I wouldn't have that it was him" when the time came. It's sad to think I'll have to wait till sometime next year for the new series of books with these characters because these books just keep u wanting more and more.
I was a beta-reader for the novel, but it did not influence my judgement. The novel is an excellent conclusion of the series. I will really miss the characters! The plot was intriguing and suspensful with one minor weakness. In my opinion, the motive for the murders was not satisfying and a bit weak. I expected a more developed and justified reason for the killings. Nevertheless, the ending was great and the death of the murderer was so creative! Loved it! The style was good and descriptive, but a bit repetitive. Some of the sentences and paragraphs already appeared exactly like this in the other novels. Despite this, the novel is really good and I hope for more Darc, Trey, Mala and Janey in the future.
OMG! Seriously awesome conclusion to an amazing series.
Normally I can guess who the bad guy is about part way through most thriller type mysteries, but this series constantly had me guessing and second guessing.
In 5th Pentagram, I was seriously surprised at who the bad guy was. And it was great. I love being surprised.
As much as I loved this series, I was sad to finish this book knowing it was the conclusion to this series. I loved the Characters. Especially Darc and Janie. Their relationship and how they both grew as characters over the series was so fun to see.
I do hope that this isn't the last we hear from this group of characters. I am sure they have plenty more stories waiting to be told.
A very satisfying read. I love a thriller with interesting characters and combinations of characters. This oddball team of 4 who are dependent upon each other to solve cases as a whole meet that criteria. It's even plausible if you're willing to stretch your imagination a little for the enjoyment. Very clever twists of the plot keep you guessing as to who the major villain is. Hope the author plans to continue the series for a few more.
I LOVE THIS SERIES IT IS SO FASCINATING, MAKES ME LAUGH-CRY-THINK. THAT SAID I TOALLY AGREE THAT HIGH FRUCTOSE HAS CAUSED SO MANY OF US TO HAVE DIABETES. WE ARE PRODUCYS OF OUR OWN MAKING . . .GREED! THE WHOLE STORY LINE IS ADDICTING, WHICH I AM, CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE. I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CONNECTION OF DARC AND JANEY. HOW DEEP DOES IT GO? THE COVERS ON ALL THESE BOOKS ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL, WORKS OF ART! ;D
This is the third book to the collection and I'm posting my full review under that. I do want to mention of you like Carolyn and Ben (which are favorites of mine) you will not want to miss this collection. WARNING this is very graphic and gory! The cast is really great and through the collection you will love what happens to Darc! Great read.....
