A sweet tender friends to lovers second chance romance. Connor and Maddie’s story made my heart smile. Her immediate dedication to helping him find his way as an unexpected daddy was wonderful. I chuckled at the pure baby panic of Connor. For me there was the perfect blend of tension, sizzle and heart with a bit of angst to make them stronger as a couple.

Does 1 night + 1 one-night stand + 1 precious daughter + 1 lost love returned = 1 happy ending?

Connor is woken up one morning a half-hour before his alarm is set to ring. He really needs his sleep, but someone has other plans according to the banging on his apartment door.

When he opens the door, there's not a neighbor on his doorstep; it's a baby in a car seat with a diaper bag next to the infant. He finds a note from his greatest mistake of his life: his one and only one-night stand. He was drunk that night and missing his best friend, Maddie. It was a mistake he regretted as soon as he sobered up and realized what he had done. How could he betray Maddie like that? He'd just been missing her so much.

There's an envelope on a diaper bag, while inside of it is all of the paperwork for his daughter, Faith. Everything is there: birth certificate, paperwork from the hospital, contact information for Faith's doctor, her immunization records, and a signed document from her mother transferring all of her parental rights to Faith to Connor.

Faith had been sleeping. When she woke, she took one look at her father and started screaming her head off. The next day he couldn't think of anything to do except to phone Maddie—the one person he had never wanted to learn about his lapse! Faith has done little but scream since meeting her father.

Maddie has loved Connor for most of her life. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, her parents decided to move to Memphis seeking better medical care. As an only child, she went with them: it's what family does. Unfortunately, cancer won the battle instead of her mother. Then her father died of a broken heart the next year. Maddie decided to stay where she was. She talks to Connor often. They had decided to remain friends rather than trying to maintain a long-distance romantic relationship. After all, she's in Memphis, while he's still in Helena, Montana.

She and Connor often watch movies together; in fact, they had stayed up late doing that the night before Faith was left at his door. She was shocked when Connor called to tell her about Faith!

There's no question about it; she's returning to Montana. Maddie hadn't moved back home earlier, but with her roommate about to marry and Maddie having to move anyway, it was time to go home. She's been in love with Connor for years, but although he loves her, now it seems to her that he only loves her as a friend. She can't leave him to flounder alone with Faith; she must help him. Although she does wonder why he didn't ask his parents or sister for help since they're much nearer to him. (His parents are in Florida on a long-planned vacation to visit family. They would immediately head for home if they knew about Faith.)

Faith has been crying non-stop for an hour when his front door opens and Maddie steps into his apartment. His angel has appeared! He breaks down crying when he finishes explaining Faith's arrival to her. She explained that his being upset had been sensed by Faith, and that's why she'd been crying so much. She tells him that he needs to have a DNA test to confirm he's Faith's father. Then he needs an appointment with his sister, Megan, who is a lawyer. She can make sure everything is done legally concerning Faith. A calmness comes over him—Maddie hasn't turned her back to him; she's here to save him! And save him, she does.

Maddie is able to do her own work while Faith naps. She also has time to snoop on the internet for information on Faith's egg donor. Luckily she found enough to ensure the judge rules in Faith's best interest. Faith belongs to him and to Maddie, too?

Connor and Maddie have been best friends for as long as they can remember, but somewhere along the way, that friendship turned into something deeper. They were each other’s firsts in every sense that matters: first kiss, first love, first…well, you know. Then life intervened, as it so often does. When Maddie’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, she moved away to support her family and make sure she got the best possible care. Even after her mother passed, Maddie stayed away, partly out of grief, partly out of love, and partly because she never quite knew how to step back into the space she left behind with Connor. Long distance or not, the feelings between them never fully faded. So, when Maddie gets a frantic early-morning call from Connor with a crying baby in the background, she doesn’t think twice. She packs her bags and heads straight home. What she walks back into is pure chaos. A drunken one-night stand left Connor with a daughter, who’s been unceremoniously dumped on his doorstep like yesterday’s laundry. Suddenly, his carefully ordered life is upside down. From the moment Maddie returns, it’s like a switch flips. She and Connor fall back into each other with an ease that feels almost instinctive, like puzzle pieces snapping into place after years apart. Maddie immediately takes charge of baby Faith, guiding Connor through the bewildering realities of new parenthood, and the two of them quickly begin to function like a family unit. One of my favorite things here is how unguarded they are with each other while caring for Faith. There’s no prolonged denial or emotional pushing away, just two people slowly, naturally remembering exactly why they mattered so much in the first place. Their bond feels grounded in something real and lived-in, which makes them all the more believable. I also enjoyed watching Connor’s world shift on its axis. Maddie’s return and his sudden fatherhood, forces him to reassess everything he thought was important, pulling him away from his career-focused life and back toward what actually matters. But as much as I loved their growing connection with baby Faith, what truly elevated this story was Maddie herself. Especially when Faith’s mother reappears and complicates everything, Maddie’s quiet strength and loyalty to Connor shine through in a way that feels deeply moving. Overall, this is a tender, emotionally grounded second-chance romance that captures the messiness of life, love, and unexpected parenthood, and it’s the kind of story that makes you want to keep turning pages until you reach that satisfying happy end.

His Surprise Baby by Kaci Rose was such a sweet, emotional novella ❤️🥹 This story blended best-friends-to-lovers romance, second chances, surprise parenthood, & found family vibes into a heartfelt read that completely pulled me in from the beginning.

Connor & Maddie have been connected practically their entire lives. They were each other’s first everything, but life pulled them apart when Maddie left home to care for her mother after her cancer diagnosis. Even after years apart though, the feelings between them never truly disappeared. So when Connor suddenly finds himself overwhelmed after a baby girl is unexpectedly left on his doorstep, the very first person he calls is Maddie ❤️ And honestly, the fact that she immediately drops everything to come help him says so much about the bond they’ve always shared.

One of my favorite things about this story was how natural Connor & Maddie’s relationship felt. Instead of relying on endless drama or miscommunication, the story focused on two people slowly finding their way back to each other while caring for baby Faith together. Watching them naturally settle into functioning like a little family unit felt incredibly comforting & believable.

Connor was such a lovable MMC ❤️ Underneath all the chaos, he’s still the man who has quietly loved Maddie for years, & once she comes back into his life it becomes impossible for him to ignore how much she still means to him. Maddie was equally wonderful. Even while carrying her own grief & unresolved feelings, she steps into Connor & Faith’s lives with so much love, patience, & quiet strength. Watching the three of them slowly build something that felt like home made this story feel especially heartfelt.

The slow-burn tension between Connor & Maddie was done really well too ❤️ After years of buried feelings & unresolved longing, finally watching them cross the line from friendship into something more felt incredibly satisfying. I also appreciated that when conflict appeared, the story focused more on Connor & Maddie working together instead of unnecessary relationship drama.

Overall, His Surprise Baby was such a comforting, emotional novella about friendship, grief, second chances, unexpected parenthood, & finally finding your way back to the person who always felt like home ❤️ If you love best-friends-to-lovers romances, surprise baby tropes, found family, emotional healing, & MMCs who have secretly loved the FMC forever, this one is definitely worth picking up 🥹✨

The baby on his doorstep brings her back to his arms.

Connor thinks he’s learned how to live without Maddie, even if loving her never really stops. Then a baby girl is left at his door with his name on the birth certificate, and every steady part of his life cracks wide open. Overwhelmed and already protective, he calls the one person who has always known how to steady him.

Maddie comes home to help him survive the shock, not to get pulled into the life they almost had. She rocks his daughter to sleep, takes over when Connor spirals, and falls into a routine that feels too natural to ignore. But loving Connor again means risking the friendship that’s held them together for years.

As Connor becomes a father in real time, his need for Maddie turns harder to deny. Their history is full of distance, longing, and unfinished feelings, until domestic closeness becomes desire and desire becomes a choice they can’t keep avoiding.

When the fragile family they’re building is challenged, Connor and Maddie have to face what they truly are to each other. Not temporary. Not accidental. They’re the home both of them have been too scared to claim.

Maddie starts out protective of her heart, but being back with Connor makes it harder to pretend distance erased what she wants. Connor moves from panic into steadier devotion, becoming more open, intentional, and unwilling to hide how deeply he wants her. Their relationship shifts from unresolved best-friend longing into intimate partnership, where trust, desire, and domestic closeness make the risk feel necessary.

A steamy, small town, best friends to lovers, second chance, secret baby romance filled with tenderness, old longing, and single dad devotion. It’s about trust, family, emotional risk, found home, vulnerability, and choosing the life that feels both new and familiar.

The Elevator Pitch: When a baby girl appears on Connor’s doorstep, the first person he calls is the woman he never stopped loving. Maddie comes home to help him survive the shock, but the quiet life they build around midnight feedings and old feelings starts to look dangerously close to forever. As the past presses in and their fragile new family is tested, they have to decide whether love is worth risking the safest bond they’ve ever known.

His Surprise Baby is a tender, heartfelt friends‑to‑lovers romance that hits every emotional note just right. Maddie and Connor’s story feels like coming home to something you didn’t realize you’d been missing, and the way their lives weave back together is both warm and deeply satisfying.

Connor has spent years trying to rebuild after losing the girl who meant everything to him. He’s steady, loyal, and carrying more heartbreak than he lets on. When a baby girl shows up on his doorstep with his name on her birth certificate, his entire world tilts. Suddenly he’s a single dad overnight, overwhelmed and terrified—and the first person he thinks to call is Maddie.

And Maddie comes without hesitation. Their history is full of firsts, of almosts, of a love that never really faded even when life pulled them apart. Watching her step into his home, rock his daughter to sleep, and look at Connor with that familiar softness is where the magic of this story really blooms. Their connection feels lived‑in and real, the kind of bond that survives distance, heartbreak, and time.

The slow shift from old friends to something deeper is beautifully done. Connor falls first—and hard—but Maddie’s journey toward letting herself want him again is just as moving. The baby adds a layer of sweetness that never feels forced; instead, she becomes the thread that pulls them back into each other’s orbit.

This novella is warm, emotional, and full of the kind of small‑town tenderness that makes second‑chance romances so addictive. His Surprise Baby is about healing, choosing to love again, and realizing that sometimes the future you thought you lost is still waiting for you.

A lovely, heart‑melting addition to the His and Hers series.

Maddie and Connor’s story was definitely better than the first book, and even though it was also a short read, it was nice to see how they finally got a chance to be together after everything they had experienced.

Maddie and Connor had been best friends for years, and they shared many of their first experiences. When Maddie’s mom was diagnosed with cancer, she had to move away, so Maddie and Connor decided to stay friends despite their romantic feelings for each other. They kept in touch over the years, and when Connor called Maddie to tell her that a baby had been left on his doorstep, she didn’t hesitate to go to him and help him.

Connor had always loved Maddie, but when she moved away, he knew he still needed her in his life, even if it was only as a friend. Things changed when someone left a baby outside his house, and he realized it was the result of the only one-night stand he had ever had. He didn’t know how to take care of a baby, so he asked Maddie for help, and together they tried to figure out what to do next.

Maddie didn’t have anyone important left where she was living, so she decided to move in with Connor and help him take care of his daughter. Their feelings for each other were still there, and it was nice to read their moments together, especially with Connor’s daughter, Faith. Eventually, Maddie and Connor stopped fighting their feelings and decided to give their relationship another chance.

I didn’t like how the author added some unnecessary drama towards the end, especially since the baby’s mother never really cared about her. But despite that, I still enjoyed reading how everything worked out for Maddie and Connor, and how they were able to build a family together with their daughter.

Best Friends Make the Best Lovers -
Connor had been in love with his best friend for years, so the first person he called when he found himself in dire straits was Maddie and she immediately stepped in to help him. Maddie hadn’t gotten over her feelings for Connor in all the years they had been apart, but she put her feelings on hold to help him deal with the situation. Connor and Maddie’s feelings for each other grew stronger the more time they spent together, which this led to stolen kisses and then to them finally crossing the boundaries of their friendship.

Unfortunately, not long after Connor and Maddie finally acknowledged their feelings for each other and spent a night filled with unbridled pleasures, their happiness was dampened with the arrival of someone from his past, which tried to wreak havoc on their lives. However, Connor and Maddie worked together to not only resolve the situation permanently, but they also made the decision to work together to build the life that they wanted.

I absolutely loved this heartwarming story with amazing characters and the slow burn, tension filled storyline filled with longing, familiarity and feelings that had been brewing for years, especially the way they turned their long lasting friendship into a happily ever after. Grab a copy of this book to entertain yourself for a few hours.

**Friends Becoming Family!**

"His Surprise Baby" is the second book in the "His and Hers" series. Connor and Maddie have loved each other for as long as they can remember, but unexpected circumstances have separated them. Despite this, they never lost touch and remained friends. One morning, when Connor answered the door to find a crying pink bundle—his daughter—he realized the first and only person he could turn to for help was Maddie.

Knowing that Connor was in need and feeling unanchored in her current situation, Maddie saw this as her opportunity to move back home and assist him. Once reunited, Connor and Maddie discovered that their feelings for one another had never faded. Their connection is natural, beautiful, and sweet as they work seamlessly together as a family unit, providing stability for Faith, who has just been left by her mother.

While Connor navigates the court system to ensure he can keep his daughter, Maddie stands by his side, strengthening their bond. Eventually, they cannot deny their feelings for each other any longer, leading to stolen kisses and intense, passionate moments.

Connor and Maddie truly make the perfect couple, as they have always been meant to be together. Their journey to a happy ending provides warmth and joy in this quick, cozy, and enjoyable read.

Kaci Rose delivers an irresistible second-chance romance in His Surprise Baby, blending tenderness, emotional depth, and just the right amount of heart-tugging drama. Connor and Maddie’s connection feels authentic from the very first page, and the surprise-baby twist raises the stakes in a way that is both compelling and deeply satisfying.

What makes this story shine is the warmth at its core. Rose beautifully captures the ache of unfinished love, the comfort of true friendship, and the hope that comes with unexpected new beginnings. Watching Connor step into fatherhood while Maddie reenters his life creates a moving, intimate story that is impossible not to root for.

The writing is polished, engaging, and emotionally resonant, with a smooth pace that makes this an easy one-sitting read. Every scene adds to the momentum, whether it is a quiet moment of vulnerability or a swoon-worthy exchange that reminds you why these two belong together. The result is a romance that feels both comforting and memorable.

If you love heartfelt contemporary romance with found family, lovable characters, and a beautifully earned happily-ever-after, this book is an easy recommendation. His Surprise Baby is the kind of feel-good, emotionally rich read that leaves you smiling long after the final page, and it is a standout addition to the His and Hers series.

Connor, Maddie and little Faith with steal your heart!

This was a short, quick, sweet and light read that I adored. The plot is simple and fulfilling and the characters likable and sweet. Connor and Maddie are best friends. A few years back used to be more but Maddie had to move because of her mother’s cancer. They decided to broke things off romantically and stay best friends not because of lack of love but because they truly thought that long-distance couldn’t work – and it wasn’t fair for either of them. But being apart didn’t mean that they moved on. Not even close. So, when his only one-night-stand all these years ends up leaving a cute as a button two-month-old girl, Faith, on his doorstep, he immediately calls Maddie panicking. After her mother’s death, Maddie was ready to return home and Connor’s phone call only moved things faster. She fell in love with Faith just as much as Connor did. Connor is playing for keeps because for him Maddie is it. And Maddie feels the same and whatever fears she might have will easily be surpassed because true love is unavoidable. A sweet story that shows us that family is not only about blood but also choice. 4 stars.

Maddie and Connor’s second chance at love story is sweet, and spicy with just a bit of angst. They were friends then young lovers until her family moved away. At the time they decided against a long distance romance though they have maintained a close friendship. When a drunken one night stand leads to a baby being left at his door, Connor’s only thought is to ask his best friend Maddie for help, especially since his parents are unavailable. She had been looking for an excuse to move back to their hometown now that she is on her own, and helping Connie with his new baby daughter is the perfect reason to do so.

Maddie moves in with Connor to help him settle into fatherhood. The close proximity brings all those old feelings into the light. The way forward, however, is not without a few bumps. They have to set aside their fears of losing the deep connection they already have as best friends if they become lovers again, then something goes wrong. The return of the baby’s mother brings chaos and more uncertainty. With his daughter’s best interests in mind, Connor and Maddie become a united front and take on the legal battle together. Losing his daughter or each other is not an option for either of them.

This is a cute swoon worthy short read, about second chances and surprise neither one saw coming.
Connor is in love with his best friend. He has been since they were kids. Due to her mother’s illness she moved away and they have kept in touch over the years. One night while missing her he had a one night stand. Imagine his surprise to find a baby on his steps. He panics and calls the first person he thinks of Maddie.
Maddie is in love with Connor as well. Has been most of her life. She is looking for an excuse to go home and when he calls needing help she immediately makes up her mind.
The more time they spend together the more of a family unit they become. What happens when the mother who abandoned the baby comes back?
Connor is so head over heels for both Maddie and Faith. He was never expecting a baby but now that can’t image his life without either one in it.
Maddie is head over heels in love with Connor also but fears what would happen to their friendship if they became more. These two are a perfect match for each other.

What does a man do when he answers the door to find a baby on his doorstep? Once he calms down, he contacts the woman he has always loved, Maddie. Maddie is shocked at his predicament and has long wanted to return to her home town, packs up her life and heads for Connor, baby Faith and Whiskey River. He feels terrible when he has to admit that Faith was conceived during a one-night stand as he has always loved Maddie. He contacts his sister, Megan, who is an attorney and will help with the legalities as Faith’s mother professed, in a note, that she was not interested in being a mother. As Maddie and Connor work together to prepare his home for a baby, the attraction they once shared is once again overwhelming. Will they realize, as they live together and raise Faith, that this is where they were always meant to be, together and now with Faith? What will happen if Faith’s mother decides to return? If so, what is she after…the baby…Connor…or money? Shorter story, but with all the words and feelings to made this an amazing love story! Connor is woken up early one morning, and by the time he gets to the door and opens it, he finds a baby with a note and a diaper bag there. He is an insta-father. He calls his bestie, Maddie, and she makes her way there. He is upset, because he has always been in love with Maddie. He had a one night stand, one night while drunk and that is how he made the baby. His sister, who is a lawyer, tells him to take the baby to the doctor and have a paternity test done, so she can start the paperwork.

Meanwhile, he and Maddie take care of the baby. Things move quickly after that. We learn about baby Faith’s bio mom. What a piece of work. Maddie is a godsend for him and the baby. What the egg donor does is so wrong after that. I love how Connor’s sister rides to the rescue. Maddie and Connor are perfect for each other. She is also the perfect mom for Faith, because she loves that baby. I loved the ending and it made me cry and cheer, as did the epilogue.

Romance with mild suspense as bestfriends, Connor and Maddie reunite, when his one night stand leaves a baby at his door. He has no clue how to take care of a baby, so Maddie rushed back from Tennessee to Montana to help him out. The baby was sweetness herself. Connor was only tense and stressed out to the point the baby senced it and would not stop crying. Maddie was relaxed around the baby, so she stopped crying. The friends had been separated because of her mother's health, but she had since passed as well as her father. There was nothing holding her in Tennessee. She could return to Montana to stay if she wished. Connor had always been in love with Maddie, and he hoped Faith did not ruin his chance with Maddie. Never fear you have not seen or heard the last from the biological mother which was a piece of work.

Best friends first, and then something more—but the timing never seems to line up. That’s exactly the case with Connor and Maddie. They’ve always felt like they were meant for each other, but life keeps getting in the way… until it doesn’t. When Connor finds out he’s a dad, Maddie steps in to help, and everything finally starts to shift.
I really enjoyed their journey and watching all the pieces slowly fall into place. It’s a quick read, but one that makes you root for them the whole way through. They have to navigate some complicated dynamics—especially with the biological mom—but it all adds to their story.
These two were always meant to be together, and seeing them finally get it right leaves you with a smile on your face.

This is book number 2 of the His & Hers series and focuses on Connor and Maddie. Connor and Maddie have been best friends for years and have loved each other for just as long. Life unfortunately took them in different directions for a little while but when a baby is left for Connor he knows that he has to call Maddie. Maddie immediately rushed to him and together they navigated their new normal. During this time, they fell more in love and finally had the chance to finally be the family they both desperately want. I absolutely loved Connor and Maddie and I’m so happy that they were able to find their way back to where they belong; with each other. This was a great story and a great addition to the series.

When Connor found out that he was a father he was shocked and isn’t sure how to look after his daughter, so he calls his best friend Maddie. He has always been in love with Maddie and even though he knows that she will be there for him he worries that this will put an end to any possibility of them being together.

Maddie left to be there for her mother, but she knows that it is past time for her to return home and Connor’s call is the impetus she needed. Living together and being together forces them to face their feelings for each other however they have some challenges to overcome first.

Even though Connor and Maddie have been apart neither time nor distance can diminish the chemistry and connections between them as they show they are destined to be much more than friends.

His Surprise Baby was such a sweet and emotional friends to lovers romance. Connor and Maddie have that deep history that makes their connection feel real right away, and I loved how the surprise baby brought them back into each other’s lives in such a heartfelt way. Connor is easy to root for as he tries to figure out fatherhood, and Maddie showing up without hesitation says so much about the love still between them. The story has a comforting mix of second chances, found family, and soft romantic tension that makes it really easy to read in one sitting. If you love single dad romance, best friends finally becoming more, and a happy ending that feels warm and earned, this one is a great pick 💕👶.

Never fear, you have not seen or heard the last from the biological mother, which was a piece of work.

Connor and Maddie are friends from high school. They were each others first love, first kiss and first passion. Life took them away from each other. One thing that never died was the friendship but L word was never mentioned.
When a baby arrives on Connor’s door step. The first person he phones is Maddie and she drives two days to help him
Let’s say a screaming, gorgeous baby brings the word to the front of their minds.
This book has great characters, one that you will want to pull the rug from under her. Drama, romance and spice.

This is on my list of favorites from/by Kaci Rose.

Connor's life is turned upside down one night when he gets a knock on his door... and there is a baby left at his doorstep with a note and some paperwork. The one mistake of his life had resurfaced and brought some turmoil with it but thank god for Maddie. Maddie and Connor have been best friends their whole lives. Maddie comes to help Connor (who has no baby experience) and old feelings resurface. This book shows a great deal of perseverance within a tough situation (life changing, relationship wise etc.).

His Surprise Baby is second chance sweetness filled with cute moments and so much love. Connor and Maddie are so adorable together—they know each other so well, and the fact that she drops everything for him when he calls just says it all. They have moments of sweetness, lots of history, and such sincerity in their intentions to care for baby Faith forever. The drama with the baby mama is sadly realistic, and the scenes that depict two young adults figuring out life with a newborn are so heartwarming in their devotion and protectiveness. This is a short and easy read.

Book two of "His and Hers". Connor and Maddie had been childhood sweethearts, sharing each other's firsts. Then life intervened and Maddie and her family moved across the country. They vowed to maintain their friendship, if not their love and they had. When a knock at Connor's door results in a baby, a birth certificate with his name and papers giving him soul custody, he vaguely remembers a drunken encounter on a night he was missing Maddie. Now he has a little girl. His first call is to Maddie who drops everything and sets out to drive across the country to his side. Connor needs both "his girls" in his life and is determined to prevent Maddie from ever leaving again.

This was a good, short story. I liked the long, special bond and friendship between Connor and Maddie. I always love when a guy is so love with a girl, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do. And the fact Connor was so in love with her that he felt bad for sleeping with one person when they weren’t even in a relationship. I give it to Maddie, when she learned that the one guy she loved and wanted to with was a dad, she didn’t hesitate to go to him. She stepped right in and helped him, and never was upset or hurt that he had a kid with someone else.
This was another good read from Kaci. All her books are good; suck me right in; and are instant clicks for me.

loved it !! love baby Faith, Connor and Maddie... this is their second chance love story... a fun fast paced shorter rom/com drama... they were their first everything once... then, she left to help her mom... now, years later.. he needs help...! big time... so, he calls and she drives all night to get there to help him... he now, has a baby girl named Faith, that was dropped off and left for him... it was a one night stand that he doesn't even remember... now, raising baby Faith together just feels right and natural... this was so good !!.
