The original one-shot for Death Note, a young boy finds the note and struggles with whether to use it or not. Many of the ideas in this were carried over into the full series, but there are some interesting differences.
Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.
There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.
i love watching animes but i have never read a manga before so i decided to debut this world and i think nothing is more exiting then debuting it with The Death Note , which is one of the best animes i've ever watched .. BUT the story in this chapter is different from what i've seen in the anime , i'll read the next one to figure out the reason .. anyway i liked what i read , i loved the story , the graphics EVERYTHING it's a great beginning ..
After reading this, I'm not surprised at all that Death Note was picked up — the idea is still so, so interesting, and I would love for a Death Note series taking place on a smaller scale, in school and with bullying as a motivator. The final story did well in cleaning up the premise though; I'm glad they took out the Death Eraser because that's a whole other can of worms.
It's a genious idea, but it was fast and sometimes silly. But then they worked really hard on it - and what we got? Amazing Death Note manga series :) So thanks for this pilot.
Fun pilot, glad to see what the original story was like. Death Eraser is such a dumb concept so I understood why it’s not in the actual series, besides that a solid one shot, good template, you can tell what didn’t work and what did.

Este capítulo cero no es la gran cosa; es una historia que resulta bastante meh, si la comparamos con la serie principal de Death Note; el motivo de que este episodio sea tan mediocre es que no profundizaron lo suficiente en la temática del bullying.
It's a fine first draft for a good manga. It has some pacing issues and the eraser looked like a big ''Get out of jail'' card, but that's what you would expect from a first draft.
Well I'm glad that Death eraser doesn't really exist in the main series. Otherwise it'd be no fun. Forgive me if I sound like q psychopath but what is the purpose of death note if you could just bring them back to life by erasing it? That way, The Death note would look no more than a psychotic prank on people.
Having something like an eraser would've really changed the whole concept of the original but thankfully it wasn't added or anything. It would've ruined the essence of the original and no one would want that.
A great story if you're an avid fan of the death note series and for me it felt like some fanfiction material haha.
