Ich muss gestehen, ich habe schon viele Bücher und Comics von MLP gelesen und auch die Serie und Filme gesehen, aber von Tirek habe ich noch vorher nie etwas gehört 🙈
I think that the summary pretty much has it for the second installation of this series. "Tirek's mad quest for power begins." Pretty much.
We see the dynamic of Tirek and Scorpan when they were younger and meet Tirek's mentor in magic, Sendak. Sendak captured a unicorn from Equestria to steal it's magic, as it would be more powerful than Sendak's own magic. He warned Tirek that he was not advanced enough to handle the unicorn, but of course, Tirek thinks that he can, and the Unicorn male gets away. Tirek's father, King Vorak, suspects his son's hand in this, confining the young Tirek to his quarters until the king comes back from Equestria with his delegation to attempt to smooth things over with Celestia and prevent a war. Sendak is sentenced to working in the mines for the rest of his days. The last page is pretty much Tirek monolouging about how his father is right to be worried over his tuirst for power, because it will not be long before he overthrows his father.
This was a pretty basic premise, and enforces Scorpan's little bit of backstory that he gave us in the show. Tirek is power mad, the end.
What I really like about this comic is that we get to see Tirek's world, and thus more world building of the Equestria/MLP universe is happening. It is fascinating to see all of the different creatures that exist in this world. The centaur looking ones, the flying manticore types, the goblin bat things. And Discord. Discord was there. Unless it is a different draco equus, I am pretty sure that is Discord.
After watching the brilliant fourth season finale, I just had to buy this book. Little did I know how disappointed I would be.
The didn't really feel like a cohesive story, it felt more like an prologue to a better story we may not see anytime soon. The dialogue felt unnatural and clumsy, it felt like they were just reciting lines instead of saying things like they would naturally.
The only redeeming factor would be the very talented artwork and colouring. The creative team made a good world (one I assume the more monster looking creatures come from) and the creatures that inhabited were well designed.
All throughout this comic I couldn't really remember who Tirek was and I had to look it up. I have very fond memories of that battle scene between him and Twilight, but other than that he left very little impression -- just like a lot of the "big" villains on My Little Pony.
The comic is good, but the best thing about it is the art. The world of the centaurs is very beautiful, and young Tirek himself is incredibly attractive. Classic bad boy right there.
The story itself is interesting, but nothing too special. The art really was my favorite part.
I'm liking this Fiendship is Magic thing...finally some backstory for my favorite villains. Young Scorpan is adorable. I like the G1 reference ( the sack around Treik's neck that holds the Rainbow of Darkness). Even though this isn't as much richer than Sombra's backstory, it was still a good backstory :D
It's interesting to see a start to the story of what turned Tirek evil. I just hope that all 5 stories don't start with some softer side. Some baddies just don't have it, however considering this is a children's story it makes sense. Cute story, though, and gives background.
It didn't have enough action. I wish it was more like the Sombra book. It needed a lot more detail. I feel like it's one chapter of a good book. I want to know more about Scorpan.
