2nd Place Winner - 2014 Book of the Year - The Drunken Druid's International Book Award.

New York Times bestselling author JAMES ROLLINS says: "SOULSNATCHER grabs you by both the heart and the throat, as children with incredible powers are put in the path of villains with truly horrific ambitions. Here is a story rife with adventure, suspense, and a dash of humor, and it had me turning the pages deep into the night - and it will have you doing the same."

Children with extraordinary psychic powers are being used as pawns in a deadly supernatural war. Jasmine "Jazz" Tandy and her nine-year-old son Chaz, who can heal people with his touch, are fleeing from a ruthless organization that kidnaps these children. Kaylee Daley can control and manipulate plant life. Mara Fleming can see into the future. Their only hope for salvation is a covert group called the Guardians, who protect these children from the organization's merciless hunters.

Dr. Larssen Sössnacher, the organization's leader - called "Soulsnatcher" by the remarkable children he abducts and exploits - believes Chaz is the miraculous prodigy who will grant him the immortality he craves... and he'll stop at nothing to get Chaz.

Cody Jackson, a Guardian and martial arts and weapons expert, rescues Jazz and Chaz from Soulsnatcher's hunters and takes them to Homestead, a safe haven where the children learn to use their powers to help others. But Soulsnatcher's hunters raid Homestead and battle the Guardians in a surreal deadly showdown - with the souls of all the children as the ultimate prize.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review Via Lovers of the Paranormal Goodreads group by the author.

The author of this book brings you into a world of strong willed children, teens, and adults. Some have psychic powers that enable them to do otherworldly things that you wouldn't believe possible. This is an action packed, and emotional ride that you will want to stay on forever. You will find yourself up late at night just wanting to know what happens next, and unable to put the book down.

I became a part of this book. I connected with this book on a deeper level than I have with any other book. I thoroughly loved the characters. There were such strong willed characters that I could not help but become part of them, and their crazy life. Through struggles, happiness, and emotional parts; I stuck with this one. I cried tears with the characters or both sadness, and happiness. In the end this book still leaves me baffled with how well it is written. I still want to be with the characters even more. The book ended, and yet I feel I need more of these amazing characters. No cliffhanger, but I still want more, because the book was that good.

I recommend this book to mature readers.

Kerry Alan Denney has created the beginnings of an epic tale of the ongoing battle between good and evil. The struggle is over the control of children with special gifts/abilities. The side for good believes in allowing free will. The other side believes in money.

Soulsnatcher is particularly chilling because of its far-reaching implications and realistic settings. Denney has created a tale of horror and the supernatural that has a definite air of plausibility. This gives the entire book an element of fear and an edge of suspense that is not easily maintained.

Denney is a writer of immense talent. His books consistently include characters that have multiple dimensions, depth, and personality that draw the reader into their tales. Quite simply, his characters become human. The writing is consistent throughout, with none of those nasty “writer speed bumps” that result in the reader being jolted back to awareness so often seen in much of modern writing today.

Soulsnatcher is a novel that is well worth reading and worth reading soon.

I was provided a copy of this novel by the author and Lovers of Paranormal (via Goodreads) for purposes of review. All opinions expressed within this review are my own.

man oh man! This book was great. I wish I was a part of the Guardians. The whole story of the children that have powers is fantastic. I almost wish this was a movie just so I could watch it over and over again. Jazz was fantastic I loved her character. I even love Dante I wish I had a dog like that. Everybody should read this book. It's a book for anyone. It's a smooth read and a fast read as well. If it wasn't for work I probably would have finished the story and two days.Kerry did a fantastic job with this book and I can't wait to read anymore. Happy reading!

Outstanding! I've said it before, but this author is a fantastic weaver of words! This is a brilliant, edge-of-your-seat paranormal suspense! What happens when a child with an extraordinary gift doesn't stay hidden away from the world? Armed mercenaries and the "Soulsnatcher" come for you. Unless other armed mercenaries stop them. who can a child, whose parents have just been killed, trust?

What a wild ride!! Kerry Alan Denney has created a wonderful sci-fi world that pulls you in from the start and doesn't let go until the last moment.

I think this was a great story that did a good job of showing that there are always good and bad people in the world. The bad people are willing to do what they have to in order to make others think they're good, acting as a wolf in sheep's clothing, but that wolf is still always there. The book also pointed out that sometimes the good people are the wolf ;) Anyway, bad people are out there, but if you keep even a sliver of hope alive, the good people will come save the day.

I really liked the theme of second chances that ran through the book as well. All of the adults at Homestead (and the kids to an extent) were trying to atone for things in their pasts. They all felt that they had to make up for what they'd done wrong and they were doing that by helping these kids. I especially liked Ben's comment when he was giving his story to Jazz:
"But it is and always should be the ultimate goal of humankind to walk that closer path. Our mercy, compassion and love are all we really have, other than free will. With free will, we either damn ourselves and spread sorrow, or find the path and learn to walk it. It's the only thing that can redeem us. And because God blessed me with Marlena, and she showed me the path, I walk it. When I lost Marlena and felt as if the path was lost forever, God blessed me with Tinga, Cody, and the children. Together they led me back on the path."

There wasn't as much in the romance department, but what was there was done wonderfully. Specifically, I loved Amanda's romance

All that being said,

One issue that I had was when he'd be specifically using Kaylee's POV, she'd do things that were very stereotypically (and usually mocked (phrases like "all up in her grill")) teenager one second and the next she'd be wise beyond her years. Kaylee was a bright girl who realized Taja wasn't the angel she pretended to be, so I don't think she needed to be quite so stereotypical, at least when she wasn't around Taja. Doing that around Taja was a good thing because it kept her thinking Kaylee was just an angry teenager.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. So here goes:

I had my doubts about this book going in, as I'm not a big fan of young adult fantasy that seems to predominate these days. However, I did not find this book to be young adult, nor fantasy, although clearly adolescents played a major role in the story, and there were many fantasy elements to the story. In short, I found "Soulsnatcher" to be a well-written, fast-paced, action-packed science fiction thriller of a story that pretty much picked me up as a reader from the first chapter, where Dante gets staked through the chest, to the ending chapters and the dramatic rescue of Chaz and the other children by Cody and the rest of the Enforcers.

There's lots to like about this book. I enjoyed the quick pacing and the action sequences, and Mr. Denney is not afraid to show a little bit of blood and guts in his fight sequences. It's a violent world, and despite the fact that there are kids involved, sometimes life is not fair. People are mean, greedy, abusive. People are dicks.

However, there's also light and magic and love in the story, centered around the security of a loving home and family, a great dog, loyalty amongst friends. These are things that the author clearly values, and it shows in the writing.

There seems to be a preponderance of characters in the story, with a preponderance of names and nicknames, and I became slightly confused at first. Of course, it could have been the wine. :_) Chaz is Binky, and Jasmine is Jazz, but only to her friends. CJ is Cody Jackson, but sometimes the Dark Man. There's the set of twins, Taja Mahal and Tara Tingle, if I remember correctly. And a slew of others, whom I won't mention here, so as not to show my short term memory loss.

Did I mention there's romance as well? Yes, be still my beating heart. In short, this book was a home-run for me, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great read. Kudos, Mr. Denney.

Awesome Book. Must Read.
For a sci fi novel it sure downstream like one. the characters are believable. You can't help but like them all. That's Dark Man, Jazz, Chaz , Kino, Roberta..it goes on. Theses are the good people. There's the bad,Taga, soulsnatcher, and their group of enforces .etc. trying to use the good for money and power. Of course your always going to have corruption where there is something that is real power and these gifted children are just that. But the people that save them on my want to tech them to grow and learn not use them as soulsnatcher does.
I have to say Jazz was kinda getting on my nerves for awhile acting all tough and not backing it up but she sure does in the end.
This book is full of excitement, non stop, and you just don't want to put it down.
The names of some of these characters at first are so closely related it has your head spinning as you read you get used to it.
It's just a must read. you will love it.
I hope to see more if these. characters in the future and what happens to them and how the story grows.
It definitely ended open or not, depends on the author. who is absolutely amazing at putting a story like this together and making you love it.
you'll be cheering characters on, others you'll wish they'd just kill but you can't help getting involved.
That's a very well written book . To me relating with the characters is very important.
five star all the way!

I was given the book by the author for a fair and unbiased review.

This was an excellent read, from the first chapter I was hooked, the story starts off so quickly I was into the book straight away!!

This has so many wonderful characters, some with special powers but a lot do not have any powers, but the mix is just right.

This story covers so many genres with action, adventure, fantasy, romance and sci-fi.

I hope the author continues with these characters as there is so much scope in this story to continue as a series of books.

I will definitely lookout for and more books by Kerry Alan Denney.

This is a highly recommended read.

(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I found myself pulled into the storyline in this book really quickly. I really liked Jasmine's relationship with her son and it was really awesome to see how accepting she was of his gift, even though his health wasn't great and healing took a lot of energy.

What was also interesting was the contrast with the other families. There was one extreme to the other that was shown, with Jasmine completely accepting of her son's abilities, but Mara's father so hateful of it that was abusive. And then there was Kaylee's family in between. So I thought it was really interesting to see the different contrasts between the way the parents handled their children's gifts.

I did have some confusion about the ages of the characters. Mara, for instance, seemed much younger in her first appearance... but her interactions with Cody made it clear she was quite a bit older than I'd originally thought.

I felt there was a nice variety in the different gifts that the children had, but I would have liked a bit more background, as well as seeing some of the gifts of the others. I was also confused about Amanda's gift for quite a long time, since it seemed to be one thing but was then revealed to be something else.

I really liked Cody as a character and I also liked Kino. It was good to see the way they bantered with each other. I would have liked to see some parts of the book from Cody's perspective, though, because two out of the three romances seemed really rushed and I would have liked to see that more developed.

I also really loved Dante. I like animals being in books and he was no exception. There were a couple of things I didn't see coming, but the foreshadowing did work to have it actually make sense.

I would probably read a sequel to this book at some point in the future. Although it would have been nice to see the romance developed more, I did enjoy this and there was some attempt to 'humanise' the bad guys.

***I RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST AND UNBIASED REVIEW***

If you have never read any work by Kerry Denney, you need to start today! It is not often that I read a book and immediately pick up another and find both to be outstanding reads for any age and any genre. "Soulsnatcher" has something for everyone. Action, adventure, mystery, drama, thrills and even romance. You will not find many books that are edited as well as I have found Denneys to be. His writing style is easy to read while sitting on the edge of your seat.

This is a classic good guys versus bad guys plot. You will care about the good guys and feel sad and happy for and with them. The bad guys are awful and will make you think of a person or business that you hate. This book involved my emotions and even a few tears. Why tears....you will just have to read "Soulsnatcher" to find out. The characters are well developed, full bodied and fun to get to know.

I just couldn't put this book down. I am happy to recommend this book to all ages and any genres. It has something for everyone. KUDOS Mr. Denney on a tale well told.

Kerry did it again and I enjoyed this book even more than his last one. The entire idea of this story it's extremely imaginative and different from what most people write about when taking the paranormal.

He is an extremely skilled author and definitely a master of his craft. The plot is amazing and captivates the reader from the moment you start reading. I had a very difficult time putting this book down for anything. The pace was exactly what it needs to be, not slow dragging the story out nor too fast that makes the reader feel rushed through. To me this is extremely important.

His main and sporting characters are loveable. You can't help but laugh and cry with them, going through everything they are going through. That just does how well developed they see and how skilled Kerry really is. Jazz and Cody were my absolute favorites but the others are not far behind.
The enemy was the perfect addition to it all, making it a nail gripper.

I honestly can't wait to read more from this author.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the Lovers of Paranormal group on Goodreads.

Soulsnatcher is a tale focused around a mother and her child with supernatural abilities as they have everything they've ever known get turned upside down as they're sucked into an ongoing battle between two rivaling secret groups. One group is hell-bent on the discovery and capture of children with special gifts in order to exploit them, the other seeks to protect them and create a safe refuge.

There is a diverse cast of characters, many with their own special powers and a sordid past, that make this story as intriguing as it is exciting. The characters all seem really well fleshed out and many of their interactions truly bring them to life. With all these character's tales intertwined in the vortex of struggle between the two rivaling organizations it makes for an exciting read that you can't help but get pulled into.
It had its moments that really made me cringe with how the characters acted and some other details, but it definitely didn't spoil the good parts. I thought this was a really enjoyable read.

This is a really good story of children with special powers and the battle between good and evil. Jazz and her son Chaz have been running since Chaz was tiny because Chaz can heal with his touch. There are two groups that want Chaz, one ran by Soulsnatcher, who wants Chaz for his own evil designs and Dr. Ben who wants to protect Chaz and his mom from Soulsnatcher. This book has a lot of action and several other stories intertwined with Chaz and Jazz. I like how the author makes the story come alive and I really liked how the characters were so well written, I found myself cheering for Jazz and hating Soulsnatcher. I definitely hope this is going to be a series and of it is I will be reading every one that comes out. I couldn't stop I just has to know what happened next, it just grabs you from the start and doesn't let go till the very end. I will be keeping an eye out for more from this author

I found Soulsnatcher impossible to put down. I felt emotionally invested in each character and cared deeply about what happened to them. Suspense flowed right through a thrilling and surprising climax. The imaginative way these gifted children use their supernatural gifts are both entertaining and thought-provoking. There will always be tension when you combine children with an ever-present threat of danger and exploitation, but Mr. Denny presents characters that find a hidden strength in the most dire of situations. The deft combination of romance, action, suspense and courage make this a must-read sci-fi novel.

Another great book from Kerry. I've never been a fan of science fiction books but I'm definitely a fan of Soulsnatcher and Jagannath. Kerry has a great imagination and is very talented with how he puts it in writing.
My favorite character was Kino. He was just so understanding and like a big teddy bear. The whole twins thing too was interesting. They were as different as night and day. I really enjoyed this book, thank you for letting me read and review your book.:)

I got this book as a R2R. Omg it was fantastic. It kind of reminded me of Kelly armstrongs darkest powers books with the special kids and good vs evil, however that is where the similarities ended. This was a fast paste, well written book. It was brilliant how it was from various different POV and gripping from the get go. I would defiantly recommend this book to friends. There is something for everyone who loves anything supernatural, and a good few love interests too. I loved all the characters and thought the were portrayed exactly as intended.

A must-read, whether you're a sci-fi fan or not. Soulsnatcher transcends genre, going well beyond what a reader would expect of a novel of this type and delving into the basic human need to protect those who are persecuted. Although Soulsnatcher is classified as a supernatural thriller, Denney builds a world that is totally believable and characters that become living, breathing people. An edge-of-the-seat read that I could not put down

Although this is listed as a Young Adult book I found it a great read and I am far from a Young Adult. I fell in love with almost all the characters and had my laughter moments as well as crying. Original, creative and downright entertaining.

I'm a bit torn on the rating. I didn't particularly enjoy the writer's voice. But the story grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go until I had finished. And now I'm crushed that there doesn't appear to be a follow-up story.

I have mixed feelings about this book. There are parts to the story that I enjoyed and parts that made me cringe.

Half of the characters I bonded to, half of the characters seemed flat and predictable.
The dialogue between the adults was weak. The dialogue from the younger characters was believable and realistic.

The romance interests seemed to 'thrown together' and quite frankly I did not like Jazz, one of the lead MCs, so I did not care what she did with her life or for that matter what happened with her and Cody. In fact, I found myself skimming sections with Jazz in them.

The action scenes were well-written and kept me engaged throughout.

This that brings me to whether or not I would recommendation this book and if so to whom.
I do think that this was a good read, if read for the Superheroes element. It reminded me of the X-Men movies, which I greatly enjoyed.
However, it should be noted that this book contains scenes which depicts child abuse and other material which may not be suited for young and/or sensitive readers.
Thus, I recommend this book to adult readers of the Fantasy - Superheroes sub-genres.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author & LoP.
This book begins with a child named Chaz & his mother Jazz. Chaz has a heart condition that is lethal but has the ability to heal others with a touch. There are people that find out about his abilities and wish to kidnap him & use him. There are other children with various other special abilities being kidnapped by these people as well. But there's a group that call themselves the Guardians that find, track & monitor these kids and rescue them when there alerted that a kidnapping may be about to happen.
From the beginning this book captured my interest and had me not wanting to put it down. Reading about these kids & the adults with powers & some without that made the story so interesting.
Theres romance, intrigue, paranormal, some mystery as well as other things happening that keep you turning the pages. Im ANXIOUSLY awaiting the next book in this series!

Like another reviewer said this comes across as YA but it's not. It has YA elements and the pace is typical YA however the plot development, the complex characters, and social interactions function on a more adult reading level. I'd call it "Young Reader Accessible" and a fantastic gate-way for a young reader to higher functioning fantasy fiction.
Soulsnatcher is a refreshing twist on the mutant teenager genre with a good dose of thriller queues thrown in. This book lays down a solid foundation that has the potential to become a series but has a satisfying conclusion as well. I give this book a solid recommendation as a fun roller coaster summer read.
