Fantasy novelist, all-around wisecracker, baker of cookies and penguin aficionado. Lives in California with lots of penguins (no surprise), a tablet stuffed with e-books and works in progress, a frighteningly large collection of Disney Infinity figures and a very nice hat. Hopefully working on more Monkey Queen stories (and other projects) as you read this.

This was a really fun read. Michiko and Beth get drawn into another adventure, this time on a mission to help a princess rescue her prince in The Far Lands! I loved that it was a "prince in distress" reversal! That was really awesome. But the story doesn't stop there. To defeat the evil Lord Hong, Michiko, Beth, and their new friends have to go on a great journey to a mystical bridge where a prophecy must be fulfilled. The Far Lands are a wonderful addition to the world, seeming to be based on a mixture of Asian cultures with lots of cool Asian mythology references, some common and some less common. I enjoyed seeing a new part of the Monkey Queen-verse and the vast lands that one might reach by an auldgate or a porth. It's clear the author has grand intentions for this world, and the world building holds that up. I'm excited to see more, and especially excited to see what the future might hold for Michiko and Beth. Beth really seemed to get her stride in this book. There was one really sweet moment where things really clicked for her and it was amazing to watch her become even more awesome! This story will definitely appeal to geek girls anywhere.
