From New York Times bestselling author Deanna Chase, Spirits of Bourbon Street. It’s Halloween on Bourbon Street, and white witch Jade Calhoun is ready to party. But when a sexy spirit traps everyone in the past, she’s forced to forgo the cocktails in order to save those she loves...again.
*Story was originally published in the anthology Covens & Cocktails. This is a shorty story. Approx 11K words.
Deanna is a native Californian, transplanted to the slower paced lifestyle of southeastern Louisiana. When she isn't writing, she is often goofing off with her husband in New Orleans, playing with her two shih tzu dogs, making glass beads, or out hocking her wares at various bead shows across the country. A quick and easy read although am unsure how many more books will be needed for Jade Calhoun - as surely she has had her fill of bad luck. That said, I've just purchased book 7 so we'll see how it goes. Will be interested to determine how different Pyper's novels are in comparison.
I am quite sure I finished this short story the same day I started and it was a quick read. Well written and funny in parts. I found that I did not want to put the book down although (and this goes back to the whole Pyper series); I think perhaps there should have been more information regarding Ian and Pyper's relationship (or breakdown off).
It's based during Halloween and well Halloween in New Orleans cannot be that much fun! Hosting a gig for a new client, majority of the guests are sucked into a time warp and it is up to Jade & Lucien to ascertain who the perpetrator of the spell and put a stop to it.
The Goodreads summary of this tells the reader pretty much alll they need to know to understand the story and decide if they want to read it. It is a fairly short story and a fast read and you are pretty clear on the fact that it is a story about White Witches and those aligned on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. White, of course means that the witches work for good, and we get to meet the incubus and other semi-magical beings that work with them.
In this case, Jade is the head of the Witches coven married to her magical husband and serving as the head of the cover with Lucien as her second in command. They are having a Halloween party at her husband's night club, which also is a strip join when a ghost shows up and things go wonky for a while
The group has to fight against an evil influence that has latched on to the ghost and make the party go off track. It is a tense few hours but is faily quickly resolved. I recommend it to anybody who would enjoy a fairly pleasant Halloween story that is a fast read.
Pyper is doing body painting at a Halloween party that Kane is throwing for a client. Things quickly get weird with ghosts appearing and the guests getting stuck in a 1920's time loop. Its ideal to read this and then Pyper Rayne's first novel to go in proper order. I accidentally skipped ahead to Pyper's novel. It was quite good, but I was sorry that I didn't know more about the Halloween party that she referred to in it.
Of course, a Halloween party in Jade's New Orleans in unmatched. When all the dancers change from their ultra-cool costumes to a 1920's Dance Party it is up to Jade to figure out why and who was the cause. Will she figure out what or who? How can she fix it? Could she fix it?
Just a note, some party crashers are really not welcome.
It was a good story and great introduction to Julius. Why it only got three stars: first It was too short, and I'm not really into short stories. Second I read "Spirits, Stilettos and a Silver Bustier" before this story so it was a little anti climatic for me.
Excellent novella! At this Halloween party, we will meet Pyper’s Julius. The party is going fine and we will have a surprise visit from the past. Jade will finally rid Pyper of an annoyance and love will flourish!
This great little story fits right into the rest of the Jade Calhoun storied. I loved meeting Julious and can't wait to see where this moves on to next. This world is so well-created and it never lets me down. I highly recommend it!
A not so nice blast from the past catches a ride on a powerful ghost. I am very glad Jade has been growing into her powers. Jade will need those powers to make sure Pyper is safe once and for all. Great novella.
I went searching for this short story. I just had to know how Pyper met Julius. And the story gives us a great story that includes an evil spirit. Awesome.
Again, Deanna had me enjoying every minute. Short story or not I love being a part of Jade, Kane, Piper and the crew's adventures and antics. Always an engaging, entertaining read.
Wow, what a great short story! Jade is helping with a Halloween party and the guests somehow get stuck in the Roaring ‘20s. It’s up to her to save everyone. One of the things I really love about Ms. Chase’s writing is how well she portrays her characters. In this short story, we are introduced to Julius, and immediately, you can feel the attraction between him and Pyper. She almost becomes another person when she’s with him. The pages practically burned up with the heat! This was another great short story in the Jade Calhoun series which leaves us wanting more. Highly recommend!
Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed. This same review will be posted on both Goodreads and Amazon.
Halloween on Bourbon Street always is a fun time. Jade and Lucien need to rescue Pyper from the grips of Roy at a Halloween party, not an easy thing to do when a white witch ghost is involved. Its a fun read, although short. It leaves you wanting more.
I really liked this. This is the kind of story that makes you want to pick up the whole series. It's engaging and mysterious. Definitely worth the read!
