Ripped apart by guilt and grief, nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad grabs her stuff and runs from her super-conservative home and family in Pennsylvania and hauls ass for sunny California. All she wants is escape. Now she has a craptastic apartment, a job at a tattoo parlour, and even a friend-who's-mostly-benefits. Then she meets a sexy, inked, surfer-dude who has the potential of capsizing everything...
Deo Beckett is adrift. Underemployed and over-boozing, Deo knows he should be doing something more with his life. Being something more. All it takes is a pin-up hottie with a smart mouth—and a bruised soul—to force Deo to start looking below the surface. To wonder if there's more to life than being a beach bum. Now he's falling for Whit...and hard.
But Whit ran from home for a reason, and she'll go to any lengths to keep Deo from learning the truth...
Lexi Scott is the combined forces of authors and best friends, Liz Reinhardt and Steph Campbell. Together, they write new adult and contemporary romance featuring strong, smart, feisty women and the swoony worthy, good guys who love them. The grew up on opposite coasts- one on the east, one of them on the west, but somehow, both ended up married and raising their families in the Southern United States. They love traveling, good food, wine and hoarding books.
Whit Conrad ran from her home in Pennsylvania to California trying to become a new person. She had a few swift rules and meeting Deo Beckett threatens to break them. There is a natural chemistry a desire that Whit feels with Deo, but she doesn't want to cross that line, even if Deo pushes it.
Deo is a bit of a surf bum, he lives in the moment and finds a pleasant distraction with Whit. She boggles his mind and if he wants to spend more time with her he has to respect her boundaries. Deo does but as he begins to fall hard he realizes he needs more. Battling with finding his own path in life and trying to break down the walls Whit has surrounded herself with, Deo feels like he has an uphill battle. Will everything he does work or will it be an epic fail?
When Whit moved away from her home in Pennsylvania to start over in California, she wanted to tuck away her pain and repay a debt by living a life that wasn’t really for her. Her new life was simple, living in a small apartment with an easy job at a tattoo parlor while steering clear of any real relationships. But the day that Deo walked into her life was the day all of that would change, no matter how much she fought it. He may not have any real drive or plans for his life, but his personality was more than enough to blow her over and make her look twice, which is exactly what she didn’t want to do.
Deo was a bit of a beach bum, with no direction and a love of freedom to do as he pleased. He really needed a kick in the tail like Whit, someone who would hold him accountable and make him realize that he needed to man up. Whit didn’t set out to be that for him by any means, but when he decided she was what he wanted, it kind of became a necessity. She was closed off, trying not to let anyone see where her pain was rooted, and it made Deo have to work twice as hard to get to her. They had good chemistry with the push-and-pull of his stubbornness about his choices and her unwillingness to fully let him in, and it made for some hot sparks between them!
My only real issue with this story was that I felt like it lacked anything new that made it stand out. I’ve read a lot of books very similar, so while it wasn’t a poorly written story, it just didn’t wow me in any way. Deo and Whit were interesting enough to keep me reading, but I wished there was more in terms of twists and unexpected character development to make it really memorable. Overall, it was a fun light summer romance read that was enjoyable!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Hide Me by Lexi Scott, from Entangled Publishing LLC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way impacts my review.
Hide Me proved to be a book that I wasn’t expecting at all. I had this preconceived idea of what Hide Me was about and when that proved not to be the case I was very happy.
Hide Me has two differing points of view that for the most part alternate with every chapter. The first point of view we read from is Deo who seemed to be the guy that everyone knew and was friends with, but let very few people in. Whit we soon learn is very secretive and protective of her past and guards it fiercely. We also learn that Whit is extremely grumpy in the morning; according to Deo.
Hide Me follows Deo and Whit as they both come to terms with their feelings for each other. Something that I genuinely appreciate about this novel is that these characters fuck up. Deo and Whit’s relationship is not all sunshine and starry skies. There are the hard times, but I like that the story has them talk things out instead of having cave man sex until everything is better, like some romance novels do.
So for the longest time I thought that Hide Me was about a guy and a girl falling in-love (it is). However, I thought that the girl was from the Amish country, and that her parents ran this freaky Mafia business that Whit had run away from (not true). And the “Hide Me” part of the title meant that Whit was so scared of her parents that she got Deo to hide Whit at extreme lengths (not true).
What actually happened in comparison to my overactive imagination was tame. Nevertheless, Hide Me is still an emotionally charged novel. I actually almost read this book in one sitting, and would have, had I not been distracted by real life.
I actually enjoyed reading Hide Me, and getting to know Deo and Whit more than I thought I would. I knew that at the start of the book, they’d end up together. I mean it’s kind of a given since Hide Me is a romance novel.
Aside from truly enjoying Deo and Whit’s characters, I loved the side characters as well.
One thing that I did not love about this novel was that Deo and Whit’s relationship is seriously rocky. Until it wasn’t, but by that time the story was 90% over. That been said, I kind of enjoyed how realistic their relationship is, and I loved how communication was a huge part on Deo’s end of things.
Before I begin this review, for those of you who don't know, Hide Me is a revamped, repackaged, version of Lengths by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt. I stalk actively follow these amazing authors on all social media, so when I found out the the Silver Strand series had been picked up by a publisher, I was not only super happy for them, but also excited to read this book again, to take a dive into the series with fresh eyes. As you can imagine, when Hide Me arrived in my inbox, my current reads were pushed aside to make room for Hide Me, which I began reading the instant it arrived and stayed up way past a respectable bed time to finish this.
Hide Me is the story of Whit and Deo. Whit has moved from her home state of Pennsylvania to California, to escape her old life, to escape the memories, the looks, the feeling of losing part of you, and to live a new life for her brother Wakefield, a life he would never get to live. She has secrets she is determined to hide, determined to make sure no one knows of her past and to hold onto the memories. Deo is born and bred Californian, he is a surfer, and a very laid back person, so laid back he is 'professionally undeclared' in the employment status. He is determined to be in Whit's life, to have her by his side, but is firmly placed in the 'friend zone', but he is finding it hard to keep this friendship platonic, and fight his feelings for her.
Going into Hide Me I knew the beginning, the middle, and the end. I knew the ups and downs that the book would take me on, but I forgot about the tears of sadness I would cry. But I also knew there would be added extras to this book, and although the I thought I knew this story inside out, upside down, and back to front, I only spotted a few new additions, the rest being well hidden, but that being said, it's been that long since my last re-read it was like reading this book for the very first time.
Love how deos personality shines thought the pages, he comes across lazy and in motivated, but he is sweet, caring, and very attentive in the moments that matter. He goes out of his way to change his lifestyle, to prove that he is worthy of whit, that he does deserve her love, and while I do think some of his plans are slightly creeper style, and possibly occasionally stalkerish, he does it with the best intentions at heart, foolishly overstepping a lot of boundaries. Whit is someone who can come across as aloof, out of reach, and very independent, but as she starts to relax in deos company we can see the fracture in her facade as the truth begins to show.
The world that Lexi Scott creates is one that makes me miss California so much, but getting to visit it within the pages makes me feel slightly better. I love the characters, the diversity.....basically everything about this world, and I can't wait to dive into the next book and catch up with the rest of this family.
Final Verdict Hide Me is a perfect summer read, full of hot boys, sun, sand, and lots of sex. Lexi Scott has a way of drawing you in, letting you picture the scenes and really feel like you are there with the characters. I'll be the first to admit I am not a summer person at all, but I would gladly sacrifice some snow to spend a day or three in the beach with Deo, getting some serous hands on surfing lessons ;)

Hide Me is the summer romance I want but never had. However it not all sweet and fun, there is a deeper message lurking in this book. Whit has moved from Pennsylvania to California under a cloud. She hasn’t done anything wrong but there seems to be something affecting her life. She come to California to escape it and try to forget everything . However guilt isn’t easy to get rid off in a hurry . She only can live her life to the best of her abilities honouring her brother Wakefield.
There been too much pain and she has plunged into her new life with gusto. Never committing to anything important aside from college and her job as she doesn’t want to make connections. There is no room for a relationship as she might want to move on but that part of her is locked away. Until Devo
Dev is almost a Californian Beach bum. A surfer who is currently unemployment and loving it . He is cruising through life dealing with his quirky mother who got her own problems and his grandfather who is more friend and a father to him then his own. He expects to find the girl until his birthday sends him to a tattoo parlour on a quest to get ink and meets Whit.
Whit the receptionist/counter girl , who in a few minutes becomes Devo’s everything. He may still have the same laidback style to life. However he wants Whit in his life determined to find out the pain in her eyes. However Whit can’t handle Devo and puts him into the friendship zone firmly as he the last thing she needs.
Though Devo knows exactly where he wants to be with her…..
Hide Me is an emotional summer romance as we watch these two go through a lot in one Californian summer as they deal with Whit’s past and Dev easy laidback style which clashes with each others wants. It a time of growth a time of realisation as these two come to life as we watch them tussle with what life has thrown at them and what choices they have made. It is a beautiful summer story that will give you everything expect when it comes to a story like this and more
Side note OKAY I had no clue this was by two authors I had been wanting to read as they have decided with the re-release it under a pen name rather under their individual names. I had no clue when I jumped into this book. Thank you GoodReads. Another thing I didn’t notice was that Colleen Hoover had given a blurb for this book until I went to set up this review on the blog. It didn’t affect my reading but nice to know this has been recommendation by her .
I loved Deo and Whit’s story and will be definitely following the series

3.5 Stars
Whit moved to California for two reasons, to make a much needed change and to live the life Wakefield, her younger brother, never got the chance to live. She wants to be a completely different Whit, which means no heavy relationships, and no opening up to anyone. But everything changes the moment Deo walks into the tattoo parlor where she works, Only Whit doesn't know it yet.
This book was previously published as Lengths, and now has added content. Just thought I'd throw that out there, even though it doesn't pertain to me because I didn't read it then. I thought this book started out alright, but as I read on, I got bored with all the push and pull between Deo and Whit. However, there were a couple of scenes, in the last part of the book, that caused me to jump the rating up a little higher. One of them was when Whit talks to Eric and the other was when Deo and Whit go to the fair, probably the best parts of the book.
Deo was sexy and confident but he was also a major slacker, who mooched off of his grandpa. Later on, we find out he may be sitting on a gold mine, but it seemed a little hard to believe that someone so irresponsible would keep that treasure for so long. Whit was more mature, even though she was younger and living in the past.
The subject matter made for a good storyline, although, Deo took liberties with their relationship (wait, I don't think they were together at the time) that he had no right taking. I think he was trying to take an 'alpha' approach, but it wasn't working for him.
If you have some time to kill, give Hide Me a chance, you never know until you read it yourself!
Whit Conrad left her home of Pennsylvania for California to live in her brothers shadow. Her loss, grief, and guilt over his passing consumed her.
She went to all the places he went to. She even went as far as getting a job at the place her brother received his first tattoo.
One day, Deo Beckett strolled in looking to get some new ink for his birthday. The two began to talk and he walked out of the place with her design on him, a kiss, and her phone number.
Deo was an unemployed, sweet, surfer boy who lived with his grandfather and had no desire to give his life direction.
The more he was around her, the more he liked her, but she was not interested in being more than friends.
She had parts of herself that she wanted to stay hidden.
She refused to let her guard down and unravel before him, no matter how much he tried to help her.
In trying to help her, he found himself.
BUT
Did he push to hard to find answers?
AND
Will she ever be able to live her life for herself?
I enjoyed this book. It had heart, compassion, self discovery, determination, and showed just how love of all kinds can change a person.
This was a good read!! I enjoyed how Deo never gave up on his love.. and i was a bit annoyed many times with her. but in the end, it was really sweet and nice!! enjoyable simple read.. loved cohen and cant wait for his story :D
Hide Me by Lexi Scott is a compulsively readable summer story; I finished it in just a few hours. This is the first book in the Silver Strand Series, featuring Whit Conrad and Deo Beckett. Whit struggles to move beyond grief and guilt after the death of her brother. Deo has no clue as to what he wants to do with his life beyond surfing and hanging out on the porch with his best friend and grandpa.
The two meet at Whit's place of employment, when Deo comes in for a new tattoo. Deo was gifted a tattoo for his birthday and needs help choosing a design. He ends up choosing a design that Whit created, and he is both impressed with her and interested in her. Even as Deo tries to strike up conversation with her, Whit is cool, aloof actually, but all this does is make Deo even more interested.
Because of the way Whit wears her grief and guilt like baggage, and because of the way she puts Deo in the friendzone because she is afraid of commitment - it takes the two more than one try as boyfriend/girlfriend. They're GREAT as friends, though. The problem is that it is really difficult for the two of them to stay that way - they both have these feelings for one another that run pretty deep. Eventually Whit has to face her demons and Deo needs to grow up a little, or their friendship will fizzle out because these two can't continue to hold each other at arm's length and deny their true feelings.

I really like Hide Me by Lexi Scott a lot! (Lexi Scott = the writing team Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt, did you guys know this?)
Deo is a lot of fun to read. He enjoys surfing, cooking, things like that. He loves life, and this is apparent on these pages. He is also romantic and a great friend, which I really love, even though he isn't necessarily these things at the same time.
Often in contemporary romances I love both leading characters equally, but in this case I found myself on Team Deo - not-so-much Team Whit. I think that's okay because I eventually came around (even though it took awhile.)
With Whit, I had to tell myself more than once that she had to work through her issues before she could fully give herself to Deo. The way she treats him in a couple of scenes breaks his heart and mine too. BUT! He refuses to give up on her because he loves her so much, and that is one reason that I like his character so much. Deo is not a perfect person. He makes some decisions that are not the best, even though his intentions are always good. But I love the way these two take their flaws and imperfections and then use them to come out better on the other side.
I held my breath for them. I shook my head a few times at both of them. But in the end, I was really happy at how things turned out. I could totally see this type of story being a real one between two random people.
I love this secondary cast: Deo in particular has fantastic family and friends. They're great characters in the story on their own, but I love that they bring Whit into their fold and make her feel loved and appreciated. I love that once they do, they are honest and respectful of both Deo and Whit as individuals and as a couple; they're ALL trustworthy. They are an eclectic and colorful group of people, and so fun to read. Deo's mother is especially fun. Deo's best friend Cohen proves valuable to Deo with solid advice and loyalty; I enjoyed reading this healthy male friendship. I'm eager to read the next book in this series because I'm pretty sure that Cohen is the featured leading character.
I cannot leave out the setting because setting is so important to me. I loved this one because hello, the coast. I will probably always love reading about sand, salty wind, and waves. I especially love that Deo teaches Whit to surf, and it is an added bonus that Whit gets to experience the ocean for the first time - as a ocean-lover, I always find it fascinating when people have this experience.
So, yeah, I really liked Hide Me by Lexi Scott. The the second book in the series releases in a few days and I'm so, so ready for it. I recommend Hide Me to readers that enjoy new adult contemporary romance, great friendship/family relationships, and great settings.
Hide Me by Lexi Scott is book one in the Silver Strand Series. Whit Conrad is a small town Pennsylvania girl that has recently moved to California. She brings with her a haunted past and a troubled soul. She came to California to be closer to her brother, Wakefield. To the brother she so tragically lost. And with her she brought a box of pictures – and she goes to the places that her brother has taken pictures of just to be closer to him. She needs to be as near to the memory of him as possible. Hence, she gets a job at the tattoo shop where her brother got his first tattoo. Bullheaded and stubborn – she wants to do things on her own, her own place, college, anything and everything without the help of anyone else. What she wasn’t bargaining for was Deo Beckett. He came into her life when she needed him most; unfortunately she wasn’t ready to see that. Deo is your typical California aimless, slacker surfer. He is content living out his days in his grandfather’s house, spending the days surfing and the nights partying and having a good time. Deo isn’t anything that she is looking for – despite him being good looking, charming and funny. That is until he comes into the tattoo shop looking for a new tattoo. He wasn’t exactly bargaining for what he found in the tattoo shop either. Bull-headed and stubborn – Whit is resilient in her thought processes. No one needs to know about Wakefield, in fact the less she speaks of him the better. But when her relationship with Deo starts to get even the slightest bit serious – and he wants to know more and more about her and her past. She not only shuts down, she bails. And falling back into his old ways – Deo is content that when things start to get tough – its time for him to bail too. Little did they know that the things there were fighting the most to stay away from is the exact thing that both of them need.
Whit Conrad is pig-headed and stubborn. She doesn’t want to open up and let anyone in. It hurts to much when she does that. The tragedy of her brother’s life is just too much for her to deal with. And she needs to deal with it in the worst way. The more that you find out about Whit between the pages the more I started to relate with her. And her pain is palpable. You want nothing more that to make things right for her and to show her stubbornness the way.
Deo Beckett is that loveable jokester that likes to have fun and just hang out. He can do that because he has no responsibilities and nothing he is committed to. He makes you laugh and as the story progresses you can see him evolve into a wonderful young man with so much to offer. Once he began to open his heart and soul to Whit you want nothing more than for her to do the same. But this isn’t your normal fairytale romance. No, this is tragic, heart breaking and truly moving. As you watch as Whit finally finds her true self and what she truly wants and needs – you begin to feel a connection like you have been friends for a long time.
This book was moving. It makes you think about those things that you hold inside. That you don’t allow another to see or feel or know. And what exactly that can do to the other person that you are holding back from. The passion between the two main characters is wonderful and when they are good – they’re great. And when they are bad – it’s heart breaking. But will Whit finally open up to Deo and explain to him the pain and tragedy that is her life? Or will Deo get his act together and be the kind of man that Whit wants and needs. This was one of my favorite read so far of 2015. The banter back and forth between Whit and Deo is hilarious and jovial. And the passion – on fire!
I received an ARC copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I read this story and felt like there was so much more to it. It started off great. Whit Conrad ran away from home and the memories that were consuming her and making her feel like she was drowning due to her brother’s passing. She moved all the way out to sunny California, went to all the places he went that gave her peace and made her feel happier, alive again. She even went as far as getting a job at the place her brother received his first tattoo . Deo Beckett is unemployed, happy to go thru life living with his grandfather, surfing and just coasting and drinking A LOT. He is happy to move thru life without doing more, even though he knows he needs to be doing more . He goes in to get a tattoo when he meets this sexy gal with a smart mouth and eyes that have seen so much pain. They keep running into each other and they start hanging out and they more they hang out, the more he likes her but she was not interested in anything other in just being friends. Deo plans on changing her mind. Whit cant let her guard down because of the pain in her life. She cant let Deo in her life because if she were to lose him, she couldn’t live any further. Deo realized that by being there for Whit, he found his meaning in life and his passion. By pushing himself into her life, he may have pushed her out of his life. Did he just push the one person he loved out of his life forever?
There are great elements that I liked about this book but it seemed that the book started off great, it seemed to stall halfway thru the book and by the ending it ended great. So I am torn—it was great up to 40% and then 40% to 80% it was so slow and just was hard to read and then from 80% to the ending was fantastic. SO I will give this the rating I will and say I understand how the heroine have the feelings she does and I do understand how the hero has the feelings he does and pushes the way he does. Tragedy makes people act in strange ways and you want to protect yourself in many ways so you do things to make sure you do not go thru that again. I had to have a box of tissues handy at times because I was crying. I did feel the emotions that the female MC felt so I want say the author was able to communicate that which was great but the slowness really got to me.
Deo in his lazy drifty way really draws you in. He has pain in his past and is so afraid of disappointing or becoming like his dad that he lives stagnant. Not willing to go forward or find himself out of fear. He drifts along and yet even with this he is just to sweet and kind and loving to want to say wake up dude!
He falls in love despite not wanting to. Begins to change despite fighting it and starts to see the world as a adult no matter how hard he tries not to. How does this slow amazing transformation come about? A girl. A girl who has survivors guilt and runs from her problems. A girl who wants order and everything in a neat box of her making and when it isn’t gets angry and huffs until it is her way. Deo challenges her. He makes her see the world differently. He is there for her when she pushes him away and he wants to help her.
She changes him as much as he changes her. Whit though runs when she is angry, scared or lost. And she runs from Deo. Deo though is patient and begins to change himself. His friends and family help him wake up to see that without meaning to his dad has made him him in a way. His mom gets him to see that love is worth fighting for and that he is worth it. His grandpa my favorite of everyone shows him that he is worth the effort and that he is special and needs to believe in himself and with that he will become something great.
My favorite though is the soldier Eric. He helps Whit see what her brother saw and felt. What all soldiers at one time think and feel. He helps break through her guilt and see that she is not living but just being. And destroying. Destroying herself and others without trying.
This is the story of two people. One that is so sweet and adorable you can’t help but be drawn to him and the other closed off and lost. The story of how they found one each other and changed each others lives. Through love and patience, they helped each other heal and begin to become who they were meant to be. A fun story of forgiveness and love, acceptance and growing up that will entertain and put a smile on your face as you watch Deo transform into a amazing man and Whit begin to find out who she is. The book title fits for each is hiding and trying to help each other hide until Deo realizes that hiding is only hurting them and not allowing themselves to become what they are meant to be.
Whit Conrad is living in her brother's shadow and retracing the footsteps of a ghost. After his death, she has mourned him and closed herself off from the world, including her parents. Moving to the sunny California town that her brother loved she follows his steps - breakfast at his favorite place, a job at the tattoo parlor he loved. Her life is mundane until she meets Deo Beckett, a surf bum who is determined to break through the walls she hides behind and get her to feel.
WHAT I LOVED - HIDE ME gave me the feels. I loved the relationship between Whit and Deo and that he was the only person who could get under her skin and bury himself deep as he knocked down her walls one brick at a time.
I loved Deo's mom and his relationship with her. As a single mom, Deo's mom and Deo depended on one another and it made them as close as two peas in a pod. As a single mom, I could relate to this. I hope my son and I have a close relationship like theirs someday. I also really enjoyed the fact that Deo's mom is a hippie. She was absolutely wonderful.
Speaking of Deo's family...His grandpa is pretty awesome himself. I loved the banter between grandpa and Deo. It was one of a kind, that's for sure. Deo has such a wonderful, loving family and that helps give him strength to be what Whit needs, even if she thinks she doesn't. I loved what Deo was willing to do for Whit, no matter the cost or toll. He kept her interests in mind and did a lot of growing up within this book.
As for Whit herself, she is complicated at times, but hidden under the layers of grief and guilt is a woman who wants to be loved and Deo is the one that can give her that.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this book and all the feelings it gave me. I cannot wait to continue on with this series. Lexi Scott has written the perfect summer beach read book full of drama, romance, family, and second chances at living.
It's no secret that I'm not that big on contemporary romances and even less into New Adult. When I accidentally accepted a review invite for HIDE ME I was pretty peeved at myself but I went against my gut and figured I'd just give it a couple of chapters before I DNF'd it. Yeah, I went in knowing I wouldn't like it... and came out loving it.
Whit Conrad is terribly deep in grief and running away from any chance at happiness she could possibly have when aimless surfer boy Deo Beckett happens into her life. I'll admit his chick-magnet, disgustingly confident attitude irked me at first. But it wasn't long before he grew on me and I really wanted him to win Whit over. Equally so I hated how much she was forcing herself to suffer needlessly. They are that young couple with sizzling sexual chemistry that uses it to keep from going any deeper at first. But when he wants more and she pushes him away I was surprised because of how directionless he seemed.
Peppered with smolder love scenes, angst thicker than molasses, and grounded just enough in reality to feel possible, HIDE ME, is a page turner that kept me up way past my bedtime. Having gone in not expecting to like it I was stunned when I finished the book and immediately thought to myself how flawless it had been. I was definitely in book-high because it has a few minor flaws but they were so little to me that I don't even feel like I need to note them in this review. I'll let other readers tell you what didn't work for them since I enjoyed it so much I went on a spree of adding every single Silver Strand book to my Want-To-Read shelf on Goodreads as soon as I marked HIDE ME finished.
If you're a fan of New Adult where there's a lot of physical intimacy between the hero and heroine countered with drama outside of the bedroom I have to recommend giving this book a try.
Hide Me is book #1 in the Silver Strands series, I was gifted a copy of this book to read from Gemma Reads Too Much.
I read the blurb for this book and thought this sounds like my cup of tea. Sea, sand and romance, happy days!!! I did think that it sounded familiar but I never gave it much thought, once I started reading it I realised that it sounded familiar because I had read this book under its original title of Lengths.
I really enjoyed this story when I originally read it and this version has been re-edited and had some additional content so I have treated this as a new book and reread.
Deo is absolutely adorable; he’s a mix of cheeky chappy and sensitive soul. I loved that he was so laid back and a bit of a beach bum.
I honestly wanted to slap Whit, she was so incredibly self-absorbed!!!! She managed to turn around all of the bad things that happened to be all about her and I found myself wanting to reach into the book and shake her!
Rocko and Marigold are the perfect hipster couple and they are totally added to my fantasy dinner party group how much fun would they be lol.
Deo and Whit have some serious chemistry but Whit treats him so badly I kind of feel like he should have moved on to someone a bit nicer.
I remember the original book and honestly I’m not sure what additional material there is, there are very small changes here and there but overall it still has the cool beachy vibe that Lengths had.
Whit might be as frustrating as hell but I adored Deo and I wanted him to get his happily ever after. He comes across as the funny guy but when you look below the surface he is much deeper and thoughtful than he gives himself credit for.
The sex is fun and at times almost silly which is a refreshing change from the usual extremely intense and deep scenes that I read so much.
Although this book has some angst it’s mainly a cute, fun beachy read.
Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
I quite enjoyed this book and liked how Deo and Whit seemed like opposites but were somehow experiencing the same "lost" feeling. Whit is running from her life and leading and re-living one that isn't truly hers while Deo is just standing by as life passes him by. Whit's guilt and grief are getting the best of her and has forced her to become someone else and she doesn't want anyone to know the old Whit. Deo doesn't want to be anything like his father, not settling down long enough to commit to Deo's mom or Deo himself, but in the process, he doesn't pursue anything and simply makes do. These are two damaged characters and their love story, while at times sweet and steamy, is highlighted by their respective inability to truly move forward as individuals, making it nearly impossible for them to move forward as a couple.
The story itself had depth and didn't go the usual route that books about damaged lead characters have. The changes that were necessary for Deo and Whit to go through didn't happen right away, nor did they happen because they were together. Theirs wasn't a case of making changes for each other or to make the other one happy, which I appreciated because then they were done for the right reasons and not merely to please. The cast of characters was also one that was a mix of fun but gave Deo and Whit food for thought, especially Cohen Rodriguez, Deo's best friend. Silver Strand is shaping up to be a series that will be worth going through, one book at a time, and Hide Me has just become one of my 2015 favorites. Five-plus stars. ♥
Whit Conrad and Deo Beckett meet at the tattoo shop where she works. He was given a birthday tattoo by the owner, who is dating his mother. Whit is not interested in a relationship and wants to put Deo off. The attraction is strong, however, for both of them.
Whit is living in a cloud of guilt and grief that has brought her here to California. Deo takes her to the beach and introduced her to things in life that everyone should know. Like how to surf, how to enjoy the beach, how to trust a hunk...
Deo falls fast and hard for Whit. She is not ready and he needs to take it slow to help her through her anxiety. He does not know what secrets she is hiding, and she does not know his. This makes for a complicated and very loose relationship.
Whit and Deo go back and forth on whether they should even try. They cannot seem to stay away from one another. She leans on his mother and learns more about love and life.
Deo, is learning that loving a woman means more than just bumming around and starts to get his future plans together. Too bad they still don't talk about the future or the past. They are just living in the present with a loving haze.
This book was very emotional and sweet. There are times you want to pull the hair out of the lead characters but that is only because it is easy to get invested in them. I found Deo charming and could not resist him any more than Whit!

Deo is a surfer, currently unemployed, who loves his hippie Mum and fantastic grandfather. For his birthday his Mum arranges for her boyfriend to give him another tattoo. When he goes to the tattoo parlour to decide on an appropriate design he meets Whit who is running scared but not admitting it. Recent turmoil has left her with many issues. The two are attracted but there are lots of things for them to work through for them to find their HEA. I daren’t write more or I’ll be giving too many spoilers away and I don’t want to do that!
I found it difficult to relate to the characters in this story, probably because I’m not a new adult so not anywhere near to age group for whom this story is written. Having said that, I usually don’t have such problems so maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind to enjoy it. Too often during the story I felt like trying to encourage the main characters to grow up! Having said that, Deo is very caring and considerate whilst Whit is very mixed up and seemed often to be stubborn about the wrong things. So sorry to write, overall, not a great read for me but it may well be something that appeals to you, I hope so!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley too, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
First, let me say I feel a little torn and confused by this book. I think the reason for that my overall feelings on it was just--meh, it's okay--when I feel like I should've really liked it. Honestly, I had planned on writing this review by first covering the things I really liked about the book, following it up with things I disliked, but I feel like I can't even do that. I wouldn't recommend this book, necessarily, but I wouldn't not recommend it either. Does that make sense? It was an okay. The premise was decent. The characters okay. It was a little slow for me. The two main characters meet and are instantly attracted to each other and there's a bit of that insta-love thing going on, which I can get past, but then the book just seems to stall a bit. I'm not sure what exactly was off about it, except that for me there was just something missing.
If you enjoy new adult novels, don't mind insta-love connection, or a slow moving plot (that sounds worse than I intended) then you wouldn't mind this book and may really enjoy it.

I didn't really know what to expect from this book but I was pleasantly surprised. This story is full of misunderstandings, secrets and angst but it works! It was interesting to see the characters grow and overcome their many obstacles. This is an enjoyable novel with wonderfully described characters and emotions. Ms. Scott's writing style makes the reader feel as if we are actually there with the characters. The descriptions are so vivid and realistic. The secondary characters are colorful and add extra dimension to the story.

Hide me is the story of Whit and Deo. Whit is running away from home in Pennsylvania to California to start her life over where no body knows her. It's time to repay a debt thats not really hers. She's living the simple life surrounded by walls and short flings. When Deo walks in, things are going to be thrown off their axis.
Deo is a surf bum. He's all for living in the moment and no strings with Whit is working just fine for him until it doesn't. He's slowly breaking through her walls and finding his own path in life. But when he decides he wants more because being with her is more than he ever could have expected...will the two survive? or will they have their happily ever after.

2.5 estrellas!
I really enjoyed this one! Whit is definitely a troubled soul. After losing her brother in the war, she is filled with guilt and regret over her role in his being there in the first place. Deo just seems a bit lost. No real direction or drive has him unemployed and living with his aging grandfather. When these two meet the attraction is immediate and intense but the issues they are dealing with may be too much to overcome.
I thought the writing and story were decent and would definitely recommend this one.

I really relate to this story. My relationship of 15 years is alot like this, back and forth over and over again. I love that eventually they realize what they are doing wrong and go about fixing themselves instead of trying to fix each other. You have to love yourself before you are able to fully love another.
Whit Conrad and Deo Becket have both suffered losses and need a push to figure out what direction to take.
A journey of forgiveness and redemption. Can they come together with all the secrets between them? Will they discover that love can only happen if they can forgive themselves and find room in their heart?
I intend to finish this but for the moment I need to something else as I'm rather slow on this one. But so far it is good so don't worry I will return to this...
