Akihito Takara thought he left the cutthroat dangers of the Underworld behind after barely escaping his last adventure alive. However, he soon finds himself reunited with the mysterious and powerful crime lord Asami, and he is once again thrust into an unseemly world of decadence and bloodshed. Will Takara be lucky enough to escape a deadly fate twice in a row, or are Asami's plans for him of a more amorous nature? Also includes an erotic bonus story and an exclusive interview with author Ayano Yamane!

In this volume, Fei Long reminisces about his time with Asami seven years ago. I knew from volume one that there was some bad blood between them, but I never imagined that it would be the result of such a terrible misunderstanding.
Even though Akihito was barely in this volume, I enjoyed it a bit more than I did volume 1. Knowing Asami's history with Fei Long, I'm curious to see what effect it'll have on his relationship with Akihito. I already know some jealousy will be involved and I'm ready. 3 stars
OMG OMG OMG THIS VOLUME!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE'S THIS BIG REVEAL THIS EARLY ON!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!
This volume revealed the backstory to Feilong and Asami and NOW MY HEART IS SOOOO CONFLICTED AND SAD AND DEPRESSED AND LONELY AND FEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLS ;w;
This volume was perfect, very little sex, and still soooo good. The character, plot developments were awesommmmeeeee! The pace was bang on! IT COULDN'T BEEN BETTER!
Akihito is doing his thing as a photographer when he is approached by a policeman with questions – about Asami. Akihito plays it cool, denies knowing the mysterious businessman, and says he knows nothing about Asami having broken into Chinese mafia headquarters in order to save a man. The cop tells Akihito that he has something useful – a membership card to Asami’s club Cyon – so why don’t they go there and get something to drink? Why not indeed.
At the club his companion disappears, as Akihito looks around him, his eyes unable to keep from searching for Asami. Snooping around, his usual m.o., he discovers the control room for the club, and he sees some interesting things – including Asami, who comes up behind him. One thing leads to another, and their lips become tangled again, as well as their emotions, as Asami stamps Akihito with his ownership once again.
Meanwhile back in Hong Kong, Fei Long Liu returns home after a busy day, and his mind turns to a day seven years before – the day when he first met Asami. Fei is at loggerheads with his brother, Yan Tsi Liu. They both work for their father, the head of a Chinese mafia family. Fei is not his actual son, but was adopted, a fact that Yan is not hesitant to rub into his brother’s face. Their father is very ill, and his sons spend what time they can at his bedside, but Fei wonders if his father even sees him.
Fei is sent to deal with the emissary of a rival mafia family, the Toh, which is how he meets Asami. Fei has never met anyone quite like Asami. Together, the two men are volatile. Asami has the capacity to be both violent and tender – it’s really quite confusing. He gives Fei advice concerning the Toh, and dealing with them, but when Fei tries to tell his brother, he is accused to caring more for this stranger than his own family. When Yan tries to force himself on Fei, his reaction brings about Fei’s estrangement from his family, and the furtherance of his relationship with Asami.
Yan tries to get Fei to return home, but he holds out, until he realizes that if he doesn’t go back now, he may never see his father alive again, even knowing that he is undoubtedly walking into a trap. But what choice does he have, even against the sage advice which Asami offers? Can he trust what Asami says, and how does he really feel about him?
In Beloved DNA, we continue what was begun in Plants in Love in the first volume of Finder. Hiyama and Mizuno are friends who discover that their fathers are more than friends When Hiyama’s father learns that Mizuno is ill, he insists that they go over to the house to check on him. While the adults spend time together downstairs, the boys are up in Mizuno’s room together, also alone, once Hiyama has ousted the female visitors he found there when he arrived. Can we say jealous? Say, just what is the relationship between these two, and what do they want it to be?
I really loved the first volume of the Finder series and pretty much almost everyone I know has raved about it. So I was really excited to get volume 2 in the mail. Unfortunately it got lost (le gasp) under some things so when I got to those forgotten boxes recently I found this delightful gem. I sat down and read it immediately, basking in the great artwork and sexy men on page. Although there is only 30 pages of the Target in the View Finder storyline the remaining two are just as good, if not better. They revolve around the characters in the first so I found it just as absorbing.
The story for TitVF picks up where the first book left off. Akihito Takaba is visited by a detective that is trying to get at Asami. Eventually the detective convinces Takaba to go with him to an exclusive club owned by Asami where Takaba learns some unsettling truths. Not to mention another sexy encounter with the hot Asami. The remaining stories in the book talk about the backstory between Asami and Fei Long.
First of all the stories are entertaining, interesting, and definitely hold your attention. The artwork is gorgeous and gritty, giving a dangerous appeal to the mobster actions. In particular Fei Long’s depiction is simply stunning with this long hair practically to his ankles that flows behind him in most scenes. My favorite of course is when Asami is stroking Fei’s hair after he collapsed. I’m extremely curious to see how Takaba fits in and if Asami and Fei will reunite in future editions.
I have to say that Ayano Yamane pens some of my favorite yaoi stories and the Finder series ranks pretty high on the entertainment and satisfaction scale. I’m very pleased they’re re-releasing this series and if you haven’t picked it up, you should.
Five stars for Chapters 4-7. . . then came Chapter 8. *sigh* Sorry but the storyline with Liu Feilong was much more to my liking than going back to Takaba (aka the little spitfire). Oh well. . . from what I see, he's back in the next volume. Yeah!
This series is super sexy. And addictive, I can't stop reading the whole series all day, and I think I will read it again. And re-read it again, as many time as I could!
In this volume of Finder, we are given an extensive history to the relationship between Fei Long and Asami. As this was all backstory, it was on the slower side, but still enjoyable.
Volume two of SuBLime's deluxe edition contains the chapters "Body Chase" and "Flower atop a Spire" of Finder and the mini series chapter "Love DNA," which is a continuation of Mizuno and Hiyama's story from volume one (yay!!). The art is still gorgeous, and I especially want to note that I love the way Yamane draws embracing, interaction, and character being close to each other; I can really feel them being in each other's space and I just love it.
Finder Akihitoooo I loveeee youuuuuu <3 Seriously, I get Asami, I also adore Akihito. Even though he's often painted as silly and reckless (mostly out of curiosity and ambition), he has a pretty good head on his shoulders and in no way can he be called stupid -- maybe a little prideful which clouds his judgement (and gets him in over his head) and naive because he trusts easily, but he is really clever (Asami is just more clever) and knows how to look out for himself (to the best of his ability, though he is overwhelmed in the unfamiliar underground). And I really respect and love him as a character for all of that.
And Fei Long!! My poor little meow meow. I just can't hate him. (He's a pretty man with long hair I didn't have a choice in not hating him tbh). His backstory chapters "Flower atop a Spire" makes up the majority of this volume, which was kind of a bold choice, considering we haven't got to really get to know him beyond his introduction (the afterward notes that this section was written as a companion piece to Naked Truth, which is volume 5. I don't know what had them publish it in volume 2 then, but it might have just been licensing and publishing issues...)(even the bonus section in this volume is related to the Hong Kong arc that is volumes four and five...). I feel like I am much more invested in him as a character because I've already read the In Captivity and Naked Truth arc, so I almost want to recommend reading it after reading volume 5...
But anyhoo, as an arc, I do really like it. I do like how this explains the convoluted backstory between Asami and Fei Long, and how Fei Long still doesn't know, or rather understand, the complete story of his past -- and I really like how we got to see more about Asami in this arc as well. We still don't know exactly what his deal is or why he was looking out for Fei Long, but the fact that he was helps give him some complexity in his motives and goals.
Love DNA I SUPER love Mizuno and Hiyama. Hiyama's almost straight up wishful denial of whatever their dad's have going on (for his own mental state) is really funny, as is Mizuno's inability to keep his crush under wraps. Every interaction they have is just super ridiculous and funny and kind of on brand for teenage boys.
The SuBime edition of Volume 1 was superior to prior releases, with better translation and higher production values. I was happy to see that quality continue with Volume 2. The story opens with a cop talking Akihito into infiltrating one of Asami’s clubs to get a scoop. He immediately gets in over his head and Asami steps in to help him, and of course he expects “payment” in return. This volume then introduces an important recurring character: Fei Long Liu, head of the Chinese Triad, Baishe. He and Asami have history, and the rest of Volume 2 flashes back to their past before either was head of their respective organizations. Fei Long believes Asami betrayed and shot him, and his hatred will prove dangerous to Akihito. Though the volume has very little smut, the story is engaging and it builds the characters.
The book closes with “Love DNA”, a return to the characters from the side story Plants in Love from Volume 1. This volume has a beautiful full color, fold-out image, like all SuBlime’s Finder releases. It has a deluxe bonus, but instead of a Finder short story it’s a travelogue of Hong Kong (where Fei Long is based). Since V2 is almost entirely Finder, I enjoyed it even more than V1, especially with the addition of the beautiful and deadly Fei Long.
I told myself I wasn’t going to write a review for this series.
And honestly, I’ve told myself that a couple times. Now I love this little blog I’ve created and all the amazing stories it allows me to share with everyone, but sometimes I really just want to read something for myself and not think about how I’m going to phrase a review for it in the background. So when I pulled this old school series off our shelf, some of the volumes were still plastic wrapped and I was thinking I was just going to fall into some old school mature yaoi and enjoy myself and nothing else.
But obviously, I’m writing this review, so we see how well that went. Oh well ^__^
I love that the random one shot about the two dudes who think their dads are dating from the first volume is continuing. It's a little ridiculous and a nice break from all the drama of the main series. Kind of bummed Takaba wasn't in this one as much because I really like him, but it was interesting to see Fei Long and Asami's backstory. Fei Long is kind of the worst, but I like him. I'm not a huge fan of his relationship with Asami though. I wonder how that's going to get resolved. This series is very dramatic, but I'm enjoying it.
Our story picks up with Akihito once again making it into the mob world. Some detective drags him back in. He should stick to the weddings.
Most of the story is a flashback between Asami and Fei Long. It’s how Fei Long came to be a head of house. Most of the story was this flashback. Flashbacks can be great, but they should never be 4 chapters of the manga and the main character is not seen. That just has no balance. It needs to be broken up more.
I’ll keep going with this story. It’s interesting. I’ll look for Vol. 3.
Takara has another run in with Asami which he mostly escapes unscathed but has his eyes opened to how his detective friend really is. This story has the background information for the complex relationship between Asami and Fei Long. It explains the tension between them but why Asami seems to give Fei Long breaks. It also explains how Fei Long became the leader of the Chinese or more accurately the Hong Kong mafia. The one extra story continues from one of the extra stories in the first book.
Volume 2 was SO MUCH BETTER than the first volume! Sadly Akihito wasn't in it but there was alot of character development and backstory between Asami and Fei Long. I'm loving both of them now and the end made me tear up. This volume showed Asami isn't just a cruel yakuza boss, he does have some heart deep down. 🖤
An improvement from its previous volume. While Akihito, the protagonist, only momentarily is present, I was intrigued by Fei Long's back story. And while I did complain about the side-stories that are completely unrelated to the main storyline, I do like the two politician dads with their sons' storyline. I hope to see more of them in future volumes.
