Are drugs good, bad, or indifferent? Daisy is going to discover the truth for herself when she makes friends with the very fun Nadia, who gives her some “fun” pills. Unfortunately, Daisy’s Granny decides it’s the perfect time for a surprise visit, and it’ll be up to Esther and Susan to help her keep it together.
Something happened and I found myself actually looking forward to going home to read this.. Must have been fate since this was the first issue to have any sort of continuance from the issues prior. Noice.
Can't find volume four's ASIN anywhere. Just using issue #4 for this until I do.
Esther gets a job in her hometown now that she has decided to drop out of college. Ha! That doesn't go too well. Soon Daisy and Susan arrive to rescue her. Esther changes course and returns to uni although her parents have now cut her off.
Back at school the girls find they are late to the game to find housing for next year. The boys are in the same boat. Someone created an app to hone in on the houses available. Lots of hilarity here.
Susan tries dating. Didn't work out. Daisy is a guide for incoming students. A girl totally hits on her.
We shall see what's in store for the three going forward.
It's Daisy's birthday and goes out clubbing with Nadia where Daisy takes pills and is hight as a kite. Meanwhile, she has brunch with her sweet old granny the next morning.
I'd only read issue 3 before this, so I'm still not very familiar with all the characters. It's easier to follow along now at least. And heh, these college ladies get up to some random, but amusing, stuff. This series is a little odd, but that's part of its charm. The art is cartoonish and simple, but expressive and works well with the overall feel of the story.
The thing that stands out for me in this issue is Daisy's story. It's nice to see her coming out of her shell, and at the same time learning more about herself. It's even nicer to see a relationship between two women, who like women romantically, not end up in a romantic relationship with each other. It's addressed explicitly in the comic. Well done.
So this series is weird in an oddball sort of way, but it's also amusing and it grows on you.
This episode seems to wrap some of the threads up, though not to the usual standard. That cost a star. I absolutely applaud the more adult themes covered, partly because that is university reality and partially because John Allison's earlier work touches the edges and made it important to explore. It's done at the right depth, in my opinion, and with the right tone - a mix of confusion, wisdom and bitterness, with nobody entirely sure who has what. Again, very typical of university.
Love this series and its quirky but clear art. Love the characters. I grabbed #4 and #5 at the comic book shop and loved them both. Will add it to my regular purchasing along with Rocket Girl!
