Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

This issue was basically Spider-Man and Kingpin beating each other up and wittily bashing one another! At the end, even though Spider-Man won the battle, Kingpin will win the war as he turned the police (once again) against the young hero! This was a good issue but I feel that the next one should be even better!

Spider-Man berjalan, atau tepatnya berayun, menuju jebakan maut.

So, to recap ASM #68 the Kingpin has got away with the theft of the priceless tablet whilst the [predominantly black] protestors are now in jail. Gwen (the daughter of a retired Police Captain you will recall) is depicted here slapping another white protestor outside of a police station whilst the cops look on “Say, take it easy, little girl!”. Whilst some of the vintage ASM run hasn’t aged well some of the double standards feel scarily modern and oh so familiar.

“Uh-oh! Spidey sense is starting to tingle!” – Spider-Man explains his Peter Tingle. Out aloud. To himself.

Spider-Man takes on the Kingpin and comes away triumphant and in possession of the tablet; the tablet saga rolls on!

“As we ended the first issue, we had the Kingpin in possession of the tablet, Spidey hot on his trail. We thought, “We’ll tie up all the loose ends next month.” But then we just drifted into the tablet as a thread to run through a few issues while bringing other villains into each story as it suited our needs. This gave us the “complete” monthly stories we were always striving for, and it saved us from having to wrap it all up because we had no idea how we were going to do it!” – John Romita Snr.

This issue is a classic Spidey vs. Kingpin brawl, packed with action, banter, and high stakes. Spidey is on a mission to recover the stolen ancient tablet, and his pursuit leads to a brutal showdown with Wilson Fisk, who proves once again why he’s one of Spider-Man’s most formidable foes. While Spidey might win the physical fight, Kingpin plays the long game—turning the police against him and leaving our hero once again branded as a menace.

Beyond the superhero action, the story continues its exploration of student protests at Empire State University. The inclusion of social issues, particularly campus activism, is a rare touch in Amazing Spider-Man at this time, adding a layer of realism that reflects the era in which it was written. The portrayal of young protesters brings a different energy to the series, contrasting with the more carefree lives of Peter, Gwen, MJ, and Harry.

John Romita Sr.’s art is dynamic and expressive, especially in the fight sequences, and Stan Lee’s dialogue is as sharp as ever. While this issue is mostly an extended fight scene, it sets up bigger things to come, making it a solid and engaging read.

7/10 - Fatso Kingpin VS Shirtless Spidey

I like the increasing enmity between Spidey and Kingpin. This issue is basically focused on their showdown, and it was awesome. There weren't just the action scenes and the trading of punches, but also their interactions and the way they exchange insults.

First mention to Kinpgin's wife.

The excuse of the tablet feels partly poor due to its lack of credibility, and there were some stupid situations, but anyway, it's another enjoyable read. The ending with Peter threatening to turn evil has been seen before, but it's still nicely executed.

Romita's artwork is good as always, and he manages pretty well to depict Kingpin's huge imposing body compared to Spidey and the rest. Also, a decent cover.
