Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

Spidey is fast...but to Quicksilver he is - s...l...o...w - how do you defeat an enemy who is in motion before you see he has moved? I really like this issue; the story is 'fast paced' (sorry!) and is a very good fight between two of the fastest characters in the MC universe!

This issue continued from the last, beginning with Peter in one of the worst situations of his life. But this was Spider-Man! He would not wallow in his own self-pity. This issue really saw Peter's take a whole 360° turn so when faced with battling against speedster, Quicksilver, Spider-Man was able to keep his wits about him! The issue ends with Peter in a very different mood, he has finally found some good luck and hopes that his luck continues!!

Peter is feeling well earned guilt after Spidey went and gave Jameson a heart attack in ASM #70 and Parker is still in possession of The Tablet! Meanwhile we have a shoehorned appearance from Quicksilver, presumably to sell the latest issue of Avengers #62, who has a side story that goes nowhere.

In the latest segment of “comics are confusing when you overthink them” Peter states that Aunt May’s rent is “due in a few days”. It was established that May moved in with Mrs Watson to save money on paying a full mortgage; now Peter is stating that May can’t even pay for her board now?! Does Aunt May have a wheatcake addition we don’t know about or something? Or is this simply what happens when you have to pay for a Doctor to call every other day when you are bed ridden because your nephew hasn’t contacted you in a short while?

Whilst I am splitting up reviews into segments how about another edition of “Stan Lee has no medical experience” and check in with the doctor in charge of Jameson, presumably who trained in the same school of quacks as Aunt May’s doctor: “His condition is listed as fair, actually he suffered nothing more than a case of shock… but he’ll need complete rest for the next few weeks!”

It’s worth mentioning that Jim Mooney shares pencilling credit for this issue, a little note from a certain fan: “Jim Mooney’s place in comics history is secure as all-around artist as versatile as he is good. A master penciler who brings to this part of the ASM run such a powerful dimension with his inking, it is a pleasure to behold.” – John Romita Snr.

This issue starts with Peter at rock bottom—reeling from giving Jameson (almost) a heart attack, still holding onto the stolen tablet, and dealing with mounting guilt over Aunt May’s finances. But in classic Spidey fashion, he doesn’t let it keep him down for long. By the end, Peter is feeling optimistic, landing a big payday for his photos and hoping his luck is finally turning around.

The Quicksilver fight, while fun, feels a bit shoehorned in, likely to promote Avengers #62. His misguided attempt to "prove himself" to the absent Avengers by capturing Spider-Man doesn’t really go anywhere, making it one of the more forgettable hero-vs-hero clashes in the series.

As always, Stan Lee’s medical logic is questionable—Jameson is diagnosed with "nothing more than shock" but needs weeks of complete rest. Romita Sr.’s artwork, however, continues to be a highlight, keeping the action fluid and the characters expressive.

Overall, this issue is a mixed bag: solid Spidey character moments, a somewhat forced Quicksilver cameo, and a satisfying wrap-up to the ancient tablet storyline. Not essential, but still an enjoyable read!

7/10 - Spidey's Quicksilver Redemption

Great spinning cover and more awesome Romita's penciling.

I love when they build the shared Marvel Universe, featuring characters from other titles. On this occasion, after a long time (Avengers #53 in June 1968), we are told the whereabouts of Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and sadly, the Toad.
Apparently, they have been discussing all these months what to do next at the top of the mountain.

Despite Quicksilver's confrontation being the typical misunderstood situation, this time it's satisfactorily executed. The fight is entertaining, and Quicksilver proves to be a competent adversary.

But the most interesting part of the plot revolves around Peter Parker sorting out his previous problems and consequences in his daily life to finally clean up his image. The classic Parker's redemption after the storm.

Jameson must be the most lovable, unpleasant and overacting character.

One of the cases when the alter-ego story worked better for me than the superhero story. Quicksilver is a fun but completely tangential part of the story, as his battle with Spidey doesn’t cost Peter anything he’s gained this issue. As an Avengers fan, it’s nice to catch up with him since his fallout with Magneto, but it contributes nothing to this issue besides a battleboarding “who would win” scenario.
