Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

If Johnny Strabler took steroids you would have...Man-Mountain Marko! Really? A tough guy in a black leather jacket is gonna throw down with Spidey?!? Not one of my favorite issues. A true 'filler' issue (issues that connect a storyline but have no major events in them). And MMM is a 'filler villain' in the truest sense of the word!

“The tingling gets stronger as I come closer to that window below! But what’s that racket I hear?” – Spider-Man, the peeping tom, is trying to track down The Tablet but “Man-Mountain Marko” is one step ahead of him as its revealed that mob boss Silvermane, in his first appearance, is also after the MacGuffin. Guest starring Curt Connors.

“Writers often claim that they start out a mystery novel with a crime, not knowing how to solve it or who the culprit will be. This always struck me as hard to believe, but this is the position we found ourselves in three to four issues into the run. We never even thought up Silvermane until the seventh issue, let alone a “socko” ending.” – John Romita Snr.

THE WEB CLOSES!
introducing Man Mountain Marko.

"But what's the point being a success in Whitey's world?". racial conflict!
"it's Gwendy! boy, she must have taken a double dose of pretty pills today" SM/Peter lusts after Gwendy.

Meanwhile the Maggia..boss Silvermane...thug Man Mountain Marko all want to know the secret of that Tablet..and apparently Dr.Curt Connors is the one to tell them.

I love seeing all the elements of Spidy’s world balanced so well. I like how this tablet story has been interesting episodically as well as continuously as it brings more angles into the fold with the Maggia and Dr. Conners. Really liked the art as well.

This issue introduces a new crime boss, Silvermane, and his enforcer, Man-Mountain Marko, as the Maggia steps in to claim the ancient tablet that even Kingpin couldn’t hold onto. While the story expands the criminal underworld of Spider-Man, Marko himself is a pretty lackluster villain—essentially a generic thug in a leather jacket who somehow thinks he can go toe-to-toe with Spidey.

The real intrigue here isn’t the brawl but the introduction of Silvermane, who brings another layer of organized crime to the series. The tablet’s mystery also deepens as Silvermane forces Dr. Connors to decipher its inscriptions, setting up bigger events to come. Meanwhile, Peter remains caught between his superhero duties and his personal life, with his relationship with Gwen still rocky.

John Romita Sr.’s artwork is as sharp as ever, even if the action itself feels a little underwhelming. While this issue is more of a filler, bridging the gap between major story beats, it lays the groundwork for future conflicts. Not a must-read, but still an interesting expansion of Spidey’s world.

Kawan sekaligus musuh Spider-Man.

7/10 - A very solid filler that hints at an old friend's return

From the moment I saw the cover, I thought this issue was going to be awful with a lame villain, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

It's hard to believe that the same Stan Lee who wrote the script for this series also wrote for other lame series.

Spider-Man is so good that even a filler issue without a main event and just various subplots can be really enjoyable. Even the minor Tablet element serves nicely as a continuity anchor across various issues, with different characters and stories that have nothing to do with each other.

All the characters, whether veterans or new ones, are so interesting and credible. The story writing and the rest of the elements are so nicely executed that everything fits and works like a charm.
