Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

WHEN FALLS the METEOR
May 1966

Norton G.Fester gets super strength from a meteor and becomes The Looter...then gets a little too greedy.

I don't care how much fun I have reading these, there are times that issues are so stupid that I just can't ignore it. When you have great over-arching plot you can forgive poor dialogue because the message and the feelings are great, but when the plot is just mediocre the poor dialogue is ten times worse. Take this issue for example. Peter is bummed out because he's been in college for some time and didn't manage to make new friendships. Either his duty as Spidey was in the way or his useless aunt who is always dying, whatever, that's a nice setup. Three panels later a girl approaches Peter to invite him to a get-together she's planning. Peter initially says "yes" only to turn her down after she says to him, "I was hoping you'd come, because I'm so anxious to have at least one boy with brains, instead of all those brawny athletic types!"
Then Peter thinks to himself, "Oh no! Not again! Will I always be thought of as nothing but an egghead??" and then exits the scene.

WHAT? I thought the point was to show kids that looks are not important and he gets all upset because she likes him for his intellect? WHAT? What's this dude's problem? If the public image that he's sporting is "puny-Parker" so as to throw people off from his secret identity, THEN he's lucky the someone noticed him for his brains. BUT NO! Parker sometimes I want to bully you myself and it pains me to say that.

I swear sometimes Stan Lee's plan for the characters was to make them 85% stupid to get the plot going. The whole New York seems to function with an IQ of 10. Either Peter is a moron and misunderstands something, or the characters around him are stupid and misunderstand everything.

Anyway, can't and won't stop loving it, but truth is truth.

Norton G. Fester's story will be familiar to anyone who has seen master horror filmmaker George A Romero's Creepshow, a dim witted man stumbling upon a meteorite which cracks open and infects him however unlike Creepshow's poor Jordy Verill (a story written by Stephen King, in 1976, after this issue was penned!) Fester strikes it lucky and develops super strength. And what would you do with super strength? Well dress as a purple and white salt shaker and call yourself The Looter. Obviously.

Meanwhile Gwen shows her interest in Parker as she tails him to a space exhibition, if only Peter didn't have to flee to slip into costume to fight the incredible salt shaker maybe we'd see the beginning of something sooner!

Baiklah, Norton G. Fester barangkali nama yang enak didengar, tapi The Looter? Aih, apa Stan Lee tidak bisa memilih nama julukan lain untuk musuh Spider-Man yang baru ini? Saya tidak tahu apakah tokoh penjahat ini akan muncul lagi kelak. Tapi Norton alias The Looter tampaknya bukan penjahat yang sepadan untuk Spider-Man. Riwayat ia mendapatkan kekuatan super pun tidak istimewa.

Cannot help feeling that this one feels like a “filler” issue. The Looter isn’t a very enjoyable, or entertaining, villain, and the ongoing misunderstandings that keep Parker a touch removed from peers who view him as cold and stand-offish are a bit too contrived. There is still fun to be had, but this is a lesser Spidey adventure.

Povero Peter Parker, sempre rognato col gentil sesso!

It’s funny how the comic tries to hype up The Looter, and he never becomes a well known opponent of Spider-Man.

When a gas pocket in a meteor ruptures Norton Fester becomes... the Looter (L)! As Peter Parker tries to adjust to college life he has to take on L - but L seems to have some of the same powers as Spider-Man (SM)! A very early appearance of Gwen Stacy makes this an issue every SM fan will want to read!
