When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.

I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.

I usually happily gobble up anything Roxie writes. But this was not her best effort. I understand it is short and a set up for another book, but she has done better with less. The beginning with his manwhore thoughts and attempted 4some was pretty icky. If I were Jem there would be zero chance of finding anything attractive about that hot mess. Therefore, I just did not get it. At all. Too much crap was in here to the expense of something good.

But, I will of course read the follow up and hope that something happens that makes me like the couple.

Rockstars, mafia and SEALs...OH MY!

This book had a little bit of everything. Granted, the SEAL wasn't actually present but he was mentioned a few times so I wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up with his own book.

This book is short (shorter than I anticipated) so it's an easy read. I loved the way Step and Jem met. They had some good chemistry but I wish there had been...more...for them. More story, more time. It just all felt really rushed and that's sad because it started out really great. The author did include a note at the end saying that this was originally published in an anthology and that the characters would get another book but...I wish this had just been a full length story for them to start with.

3.5** for sure and this book only made me want to read Kostya's book all the more after a teaser chapter I read.
So two little blue pills mixed with liquor has Step passed out in his own excess when the heroine finds him knocked out on the floor.Seems that after a year , he has gotten no action cause his cock just won"t rise to the occassion, and that is not a good thing for a rock star!
Heroine finds him when she goes to clean his hotel room, quicker than"The Flash" insta lust and cock is wide awake and wanting action.
I wished this was a longer book, enjoyed this couple and great to see past chatacters of the Russian protectors.
Nice quick read.

Oh, I loved the singer, Stepan aka Step Vaseliev and hotel housekeeper, Jemima's instalust story.

"Sometimes it was safer to know nothing. Sometimes it was safer to stay silent. Not a word was spoken until we had almost reached Houston."

Interconnected characters from Rivera's previous series: Finn, Nikolai Kalsnikov and wife, Vivian Ten (Step's cousin; Spider (MC), Romero Valero (Vivian's father), Boychenko, Kostya Antonovich, Mueller; Semyon, Ilya and more!

Still waiting on book 2 of their story...

Whenever author Roxie Rivera releases a book, you already know its an automatic 1-Click for me.

So I eagerly waited for this book to be released on its own and when it did, I snatched it up. But due to my huge reading list, I just got to around to and boy I wasn't not disappointed.

Sinister Mayhem lead singer Step Vasiliev likes his women wild, his sex rough and his partying hard--but his reckless lifestyle has finally caught up with him. His thirtieth birthday ends with a humiliating face-plant onto the floor of his luxury hotel suite.

In comes hotel worker Jemima Coates, she is working non-stop to provide for her younger brother and herself. She has had to put her plans on hold for college to work 2 sometimes 3 jobs to make ends meet. Their mother is serving a 20 year jail sentence, her biological father is dead and her stepfather (Benji's dad) just out of county and already has caused problems by stealing drugs from a known Meth dealer. Her landlord gave her the heads up to be careful. So now she is at work and enters the hotel room from hell, trash is everything, things are broken, food is all over the place and there lying on the floor buck naked is Step himself with dried blood on the side of his head. Jemima freaks and starts shaking him which he groggily comes awake and trying to grope her at the same time in his stupor but once he comes to himself he is horrified at himself because here he is 30 years old and acting like he's 20 or 21 years old.

Step and Jemima embark on a fast track romance. Step's dad in one of his drunken stupors told him that when he meets the woman of his dreams the lightening bolt will hit him square in his heart. All this time he had been searching despite the wildness of everything in his life, he still looked for her and he found her. In a young woman who had more strength than he has ever seen in anyone besides his brother and his cousin Ten (Nikolai's Bodyguard from Her Russian Protector series). Now that she is in Step's life he wants her there permanently and will do anything to make that possible. But before they can make another move, Jemima's brother Benji is kidnapped and Step goes to see his cousin Ten and enlist his help along with Nikolai's to get him back.

Awesome read, I loved it and hated when it ended. Author Roxie Rivera did say we will get another story for Step and Jemima next year so that was exciting to read. Her next releases will be the heavily anticipated Kostya and Alexei.

I did not like this. I've read plenty of Roxie Rivera books, so I know what to expect, but this was so skeevy.

The hero, Step, is the lead singer for a band called Sinister Mayhem. It's his 30th birthday and his band has just performed a show at a local club. To celebrate his birthday, he selects three groupies to go with him to a suite at a nearby hotel and takes a Viagra with a vodka chaser. The groupies start going at each other and he still can't get hard so he has another Viagra and some more vodka. He proceeds to pass out and the groupies trash the suite.

Jemima is the heroine and she is a maid at the hotel where Step spent the night. She's assigned to clean his suite and discovers him passed out in a pool of his own vomit and blood in the bedroom of the suite. She's already heard about the groupies who trashed another location in the hotel and had to be removed by security, so she deduces that they were with Step based on the state of his suite.

Jemima and Step meet when she rouses him from his drunken stupor and puts him in the shower to clean him up and then dresses his wound (from hitting his head when passing out).

Step hits on Jem mercilessly. Because his dick gets hard at the thought of her.
He insists they go on a date before he lets her leave the suite.
She ends up losing her job because of Step.
Step then decides she can be his housekeeper to make her living.
She goes back to his place and we find out he rented the hotel suite because "he doesn't bring women here" (to his home) and this is supposed to make Jem special. Because she's at his place.
They masturbate each other.
Jem's brother is kidnapped by some "meth heads".
Luckily, Step's cousin is Ten, who works for Houston's mob boss, Nicolai (from "Nicolai").
Nicolai rides to the rescue and saves Jem's brother.
Jem and her brother stay the night at Step's place.
Step won't go bareback with Jem because he wants be careful and protect her, but she goes down on him without putting a condom on him first.

This all happened in a day. And she KNEW he was with three groupies the night before (I don't think she ever asked if he actually had sex with them). But she didn't know anything else about him.

SOOOOOOOOOOO GROSS.

Another step into the world of the Houston underworld with Roxie Rivera's fantastic characters! Loved the fact that we got to see Nic, Viv, Ilya, Kostya, Ten (step's cousin) who saved Step's girl, Jem and brother Benjie.

Step is a Russian heavy metal lead singer who passes out in a trashed hotel room he is sharing with three girls. He is found the next morning nude laying in his vomit with a empty bottle near on his 30th birthday by a cleaning woman....Jem.

He has been taking a long look at his life and when he finally get's cleaned up with her help, realizes she is just the right kind of woman he has been wanting for a long time. Sweet, steady, caring, sexy and she is someone he could commit himself to. He is stunned at his instant attraction to her. When her brother is abducted by some meth cartel buddies of Benjie's dad, Step knows who to bring her to for help in getting him back.

I think the only thing that was a little off was how quickly Jem accepted Step. I can see it if she had been a big fan of his but she hated his music. Had I encountered a guy like him in his condition, I would have been not so accepting of his advances. Jem has been through some hard knocks in life and albeit sweet, not stupid. I think had they parted in the hotel and he ran into her or found out about her being caned and went back to pursuit her I would have bought it. Again.....what is usually my problem with short books/stories....they need some extra words and time.

Having said all that....I absolutely LOVE this author's style, You open the book and feel like you are in the room with her characters. She creates people in her book you can relate to, that you like and there is good chemistry between them. Even her villains are not one dimensional. And the background stories all connect between her series which makes it very interesting. I just can't wait for Kostya's book (it said late July in the back of this book.) I just wish this was a little longer of a book.

Step Vasiliev is a Russian sex God and lead singer of Sinister Mayhem. He likes to drink and he likes to fuck. He does a concert on his 30th birthday and then celebrates afterwards by taking 3 women to his hotel room. He's been having a hard time lately getting an erection unless he uses Viagra. After drinking heavily and taking two Viagra he still can't get hard and he passes out face down in his own puke. Jemima is 21 years old, hard working and has custody of her 15 year old brother, Benji. When she gets to her housekeeping job at the hotel she is surprised to see the naked man on the floor of the Penthouse suite. Jem helps Step up and puts him in the shower to wake him up and he is pleasantly surprised at her kindness.

2.5 Stars, In the middle as it had potential but fell short.
This book was waaaayyyyy to short for all the plot she tried to cram into it! I feel it had potential but we are YET AGAIN left with the promise of a sequel of these characters, ahhhhhh just finish their story in the one damn book please. I should have read the reviews instead of pressing the one-click, damn you one click button!!!! Another unfinished story! Sorry but I'm not being sucked into another of her series with small books, stick to the ones I've already committed to. Who knows I may pick it up sometime after she had finished the whole series of books!
Bit disappointed in this one.

This one is set in the author's Her Russian Protector series, with visits from some favorite characters.

I loved Jem and Benji, loved the relationship that they had and how they looked out for each other.

I have to say that I didn't care for Step at all. He was your stereo-typical bad boy rocker who thinks he can do no wrong. I so wanted to punch him for how he treated Jem at the start. Yes he did get better, but I still think she could do better than Step. I do like that she seems to have found some new friends with all the Russians.

Disappointment

How much do you dislike cliffhangers? Answering that will lead you to either buying this book or walking away. Pity I didn't need the negative reviews. Reads like something that was thrown together and published as a stop to those loyal readers waiting for Kostya and or Alexi. Give this one a by.

So, I'm a huge fan of this author and all of her Russian guys. I just checked her website and found a couple of books that I wasn't aware of existed, like this one.

I was excited for this book. Let me be straight, I'm not a fan of rocker guy stories but I figured let's give this a go. This is a short story compared to her other stories. I like how she stays true to the type of characters she wrote about. Jem is a sweet, strong and great female that is determined to do better and provide for her little brother. Step is a rocker that is struggling and "lost." I wish there was a little more for this couple just to know them better. Maybe we'll get a future book.

Sudden ending with a promise of more, but didn't see anything in the author's page that seemed to fit the bill. This was not an HEA, but a HFN.

I didn't need such a detailed description of Step's planned debauchery for his birthday. It did not make me like him too much. It could have been cut in half or more. I did appreciate the author knew Houston, but would have appreciated it she actually knew guns. Shotguns are not a weapon to use if there are people near by that you don't want to hit.

If this had had a real ending, I probably would have given it 4-stars, but it was really forgettable.

OKay, so this wasn't horrible.

It was short. It was supposed to be short. It was a short story originally released in an anthology. So those who are bitching about it being short? Deal with it, it was written that way on purpose.

This was set in the Russian side of the Protector world. Though there were appearances by people from the Connelly world.

It was alright. I didn't particularly like Step at first, but I also didn't particularly dislike him.

I would read the next one when she finally puts it out. (Apparently she's gotten her mojo back after whatever happened)

Short and sweet

This is a sort story but very sweet. Step and Jem need a continuation to their story. It's ironic that Step's impotence led him to his true love. Unexpected and nicely deserved was Jen's encounter with the rockstar Step. It was hot and heavy from the beginning.

Hot hot hot!!!

***I'm still fanning myself from reading this story!!!!****

Wow, the relationship between Step and Jem is amazing, and steamy!!!! I loved reading it and can not wait for the follow up, though 2016 is still too long to wait.

Step is the lead singer of a rock band, he is a Russian immigrant that moved to the U.S. when he was 7y/o. He is just turning 30y/o and wants to ring it in with a bang. And a bang he did, that's how Jem (a hotel maid) finds him passed out on the floor when she comes to clean his suite.

Jem is a saint, raising her younger brother (15y/o) for the past 3 yrs after her mother was put into jail and her stepfather (her brother's father) took off. She is just making the ends meet in order to give her brother a decent life.

Step and Jem's meeting and start of relationship is electric and combustable!!!

By the time I got to the end of the book I realized that this book is branches off of Roxie Riviera's Her Russian Protector series. I haven't read all that series yet, but I love what I've read!!!! It's a must see, Roxie Riviera writes some sexy alpha Russian mob guys!!!!

I like it...would've liked it more if it's longer.
After popping 2 little blue (Viagra) pills down with a bottle of hard liquor, Step blacked out. And that's how our heroine found him, naked and passed out like the drunken debaucher he is. At his first -clear- vision of Jemima, Step just knew she's the one because like his dad once told him, "It's like a thunderbolt to your head, that's how you'll know". I thought it was the hangover/Viagra that caused the thunderbolt and hard-on, but love-at-first-sight is waaay better plot wise...if you're wondering about the blue pill -read it.

I love Roxie Rivera, her Russian Protector series is just fantastic so as soon as I saw this had links to that I had to read Step. And yeah, too much, too fast sadly.

This has the makings of another fantastic story with the rock star / mafia theme and would have done so much better being a full story instead of a short novella. I would have loved to see Jem and Step's relationship develop over more than just a day. Who moves in with a bloke the day she meets him? Nuh unh, this one didn't really work for me.

That said, their story is to be continued and I will definitely read that to hopefully get their complete story.

I actually enjoyed this little novella. I know everything happens so fast but I guess that’s to be expected in such a short story (its only 89 pages) and I believe it was originally written to feature in an anthology not a book on its own.

I enjoyed the link to the Russian Protector series and gave me a little fix of my Russians until the next book comes out.
I would really like to know more about this couple and I was glad to see that there will be a sequel to this in 2016 as I was just getting to know Step and Jem when the book ended.

Fast paced and full of action. Step is finally at a place in his life where he wants more than the groupies and fame that follow him. He sees the reality of the emptiness that his life has become. Jem amazes me with her inner strength. She will do anything to protect her little brother even if it means putting herself last. I love Step's inner monologue about telling their grandchildren how they met. This is the first book in a spin off series of Her Russian Protector and The Fighting Connolly's.

In a way this one reminded me more of Yuri's - the least criminal aspect, and a super sweet hero.
I liked also that Step wasn't "part of the inside" - and that he gets nervous around Nikolai too.
He's a peripheral, and it shows.
Also you know, rockstar romance - that was nice. Also how he's sick of the life and doesn't start out all badass. Nice to see a hero with the world at his fingertips (ish) with egg on his face.

Cute story - of course they move fast as usual, but the little brother tie in was nice. :)

I can see myself re-reading this
