Francesca "Frankie" Leone is pissed off about a lot of things. She was nearly killed by an IED and had to leave the navy. Her father was convicted of treason and took his own life. Her mother, Sophia, wasn't acting as grief-stricken as Frankie thought she should be. So, Frankie is only too happy to believe the words of a complete stranger that Sophia was the one who framed her own husband, and sets out to get the truth. A family friend (this is part of a series) sets her up with Aidan Abbot to help her. Frankie insists that they two of them should pretend to be engaged, as wedding stuff will distract her mother from figuring out that they're undercover.

This was plotless junk.

What exactly it is the Frankie's father did to be charged with treason is never once elaborated upon.

The "intel" that Frankie and Aidan uncover is glossed over, and it's not apparent why anybody would want them dead over what they have found, BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. This kills any chance at suspense. If anything, I figured people wanted Frankie dead because she was such an unrelentingly pissy bitch.

Frankie is unwavering in her belief that her father is innocent. She is just as unwavering in her belief that her mother is guilty. This drives her motivation for the entirety of the story, and she seemingly holds on to it so that she can be pissy to everybody around her.

It makes no sense for her to hold on to this, because the documentation throwing suspicion on her mother, as she admits, could have been falsified. All the other documents she finds could be falsified as well, but it seems to be only the documents related to her mother that she believes could be the real deal.

When Frankie comes up with the engagement idea, she continually gets pissy at Aidan whenever he tries to help out, such as making it look as if they're actually engaged. She's always snapping at him, or glaring at him, or telling him to stop touching her. Aidan must have some strange fetishes, because this just makes him fall in love with her!

As for me, I absolutely detested her!

I hated the main character, the plot is thin and vague, there's only about five characters all up (so you know from the start who the bad guy is), and there's very little action or suspense. Once again, I'm baffled as to why it required two authors to come up with so very little!

Excellent romance and fantastic suspense. While Frankie was recovering from injuries received in the war, her army general father was tried and convicted of treason, committing suicide shortly thereafter. Frankie refuses to believe her father is guilty and has been trying to investigate on her own. When she is given information that implicates her mother, she takes the information to family friend Victoria Colby-Camp and asks for help. She doesn't expect to have Aidan Abbott thrust on her, feeling more like a watchdog than a helper.

I loved the meeting between Frankie and Victoria. Both are strong, determined women, but Victoria has the benefit of greater experience and comes out on top of the battle of wills. Aidan is certain that he is going to have his work cut out for him, trying to keep Frankie from moving too fast. He doesn't expect to have her change the plan right off and have them pose as a couple to her mother. This is way out of his comfort zone, for personal reasons, but he can't convince her to drop the idea.

Frankie and Aidan strike sparks from the beginning. There is definitely attraction, but at the beginning there is some resentment also. Frankie doesn't like Aidan being the voice of reason and telling her that the evidence against her mother may be faked. She is desperate for answers and wants to charge in and confront her mother. Aidan doesn't like being forced into a fake engagement. He had been engaged before, and because of his work his fiancee had been targeted and killed. I loved the way he tried to get her to reconsider by playing up all the public affection they'd have to show. Unfortunately for him, it rather backfired.

The development of their relationship was fast but intense. Having to play the part almost 24/7, it all began to feel real. Aidan discovered that besides the physical attraction he felt for Frankie, he really admired the way her mind worked. Frankie also felt the heat and was afraid that it would be all too easy to fall for Aidan for real. I really loved seeing Aidan push the envelope with his playing up their romance and how Frankie would occasionally turn the tables on him. Frankie's mother also got into the act with her excitement over the engagement and her push for wedding planning. It was pretty funny to see Frankie's panic and Aidan's coolness as they each dealt with it. There was quite an amusing twist to these plans at the end.

The action and suspense were great, from Frankie's initial discovery to the very end. Her certainty that there was no way that her father could have committed treason was intensified by the information that she was given. I was a little disturbed by her willingness to believe the worst of her mother, especially considering that her memories of her childhood were so good. As she and Aidan got settled in Seattle, it was interesting to see their different approaches to the investigation. With each lead that they uncovered, more questions were raised. The attacks that they experience show that they are getting too close to the truth and that someone is determined to stop them. I was pretty sure who the person behind the attacks was, but the reasoning wasn't made clear until the end. The final confrontation was really intense and I was really afraid for Frankie. While the source and reason for the attacks was revealed, there are still unanswered questions about what really happened with Frankie's father. I can't wait for Sophia's story!

GUNNING FOR THE GROOM is an intriguing mystery full of action, suspense, and romance. Debra Webb and Regan Black introduce their female protagonist, Francesca (Frankie) Leone, who is trying to clear her father’s name. The authors give Frankie’s backstory including details of her injuries incurred while on a Seal covert operation and her estranged relationship with her mother. Webb and Black introduce their male protagonist, Aidan Abbot, a former Interpol agent and now working for the Colby Agency in Chicago. Readers follow Frankie to Chicago to meet with Victoria Colby-Camp to discuss evidence given that implicates her mother in the destruction of her father’s career and his suicide. The storyline gains momentum when Victoria agrees to investigate the evidence and send Aidan with Frankie to visit her mother in Seattle. Frankie accepts the idea of working with Aidan in the investigation of her mother. She talks Aidan into going undercover as her fiancé.

Both authors work together to create support characters providing their backstories and the roles they play and the continuing story development. They keep readers’ interest adding several subplots that change the story’s direction including the planning of the make-believe wedding and Aidan’s development of romantic feelings for Frankie. The authors maintain the intense investigation of Frankie’s mother and her partner with each new answer creating more questions for Frankie and Aidan.

The storyline’s action intensifies when there are attempts of both Frankie’s and Aidan’s lives. Webb and Black create twists and turns and as events unfold their readers are on the edge of their seats holding their breath. Both authors continue development of their characters supplying readers with insight to an identity of the antagonist and their reasons for their actions. The dynamics behind the wronging of Frankie’s father are now only part of the investigation. Webb and Black place readers on Frankie and Aidan’s shoulders as they uncover an ongoing conspiracy involving Frankie, Aidan, and her mother. GUNNING FOR THE GROOM creates a story full of suspense, romance, and family values with a dramatic ending. A must read earning a five-star ranking.

Wow this was a great book. The suspense, and action was excellent. Frankie loved her father, he was her Hero. He was a US Army General. In her heart she knows he was set up, and convicted for treason. Frankie was serving in the military. She was injured, and couldn't walk. She never got to talk to her dad after the court case. Being convicted, was too much for her dad. He committed suicide while Frankie was in a hospital bed. Now that she is better, she wants to prove to the world that her father is innocent, and clear his name. She goes to Victory a long time friend for help. Victory runs the Colby agency. Victory sends Aidan with her, when she goes to collect information.

They know people are watching them, but they don't know who. The house that they are staying in is "bugged" It seems everywhere they go, someone is listening to them. Shorty after they get there, they become targets. Someone wants to silence them.

I loved how the relationship grew between Frankie and Aidan throughout the story. You could tell they cared for one another, with the way they worried about the other.

Loved this book!

Francesca "Frankie" Leone doesn’t believe for a second that her father killed himself…unless he had no choice. She believes her late father, who was a US Army general, was framed for treason and has every reason to believe that her own mother was behind it. With nowhere else to turn she contacts the Colby Agency for help. Victoria Colby sends former Interpol agent, now private detective Aidan Abbot to Seattle, posing as Frankie’s fiancé, to investigate.
These two authors are both amazing in their own right and when you put them together-magic happens. This story flows seamlessly with action, suspense and of course, romance. The action never once slows down, the suspense builds layer, upon layer, as Frankie and Aiden search for the truth. The characters come to life before your eyes and the chemistry between the two is electric. The closer they get to the truth and with attempts on both of their lives, Frankie and Aiden come to realize their feelings for each other are far more than pretend.

Seeking the advice of an old family friend Victoria Colby-Camp who runs the Colby Agency, Victoria agrees to help Frankie with the stipulation that Aidan Abbot a former Interpol agent and private detective accompany her. The team of Debra Webb and Regan Black has done it again! This book is fast paced suspense and a lot of heart!
She wanted answers and he was assigned to help her find them but none of the pieces fit and everything she learned just confused her more. Could she trust anyone?
His attraction to her was more then skin deep and he was determined to help her find the truth and keep her safe no matter what it took.
These two authors know how to create complex characters and stories on their own and together they are a dynamic duo!

Debra Webb and Regan Black are such incredible authors and when they write a story together it is unbeatable. They keep you in suspense and wondering what is going to happen next. It is disappointing when you get to the last page and realize the book is finished and have to wait until they write the next story!! I didn’t want to put the book down! I don’t like revealing too much in a review because that’s part of what makes a good book so great; not knowing what will happen next. I have read Debra Webb’s books for over 10 years and I fell in love with Debra’s writing while reading the Colby Agency. I love the Colby Agency books! I started reading Regan Black’s books a couple of years ago and love her books too. These two authors are very talented and you will enjoy the stories they create together.

Gunning for the Groom is a story of loss, faith, love and a hero or two. Francesca “Frankie” Leone is an ex-Navy Seal and now an analyst for the Savannah Police Department after she was discharged when she was critically wounded. Frankie’s father (US Army General) died amid scandal and disgrace while Frankie was in the hospital. Frankie has never believed her father was guilty and obviously someone else believes that too. Frankie is contacted by a mysterious person who has information that proves who is supposedly really behind what happened. But it implicates someone else whom Frankie loves and has always trusted. Frankie meets with long-time family friend Victoria Colby-Camp who has the contacts and means to help her solve what really happened. Victoria has Aidan Abbot (former Interpol Agent) help Frankie investigate into what is going on. Will Frankie’s mom, Sophia help or hurt the investigation? Frankie and Aiden go undercover and are in serious danger at every piece of information they discover. Will they be able to solve what really happened to Frankie’s dad or will the price be too high?

The team of Debra Webb and Regan Black are at it again !!!! This newest of The Colby Agency has it all, romance, great mystery and quite a thriller. Francesca Leone aka Frankie to her friends has been injured in an OP as a Navy Seal. While hospitalized her beloved father a US Army General has been charged with terrible crimes against his country, who has been tried, convicted and found guilty of treason. To this end he commits suicide, and leaves a daughter unbelieving her father was guilty.

Finally able to walk after therapy from the ID that struck her convoy, Frankie is now working a stateside desk job. Estranged from her mother who she feels helped her Dad be convicted, Frankie is visited by a stranger named John who claims he knew her Dad and leads her to a safe deposit box filled with personal and classified information.

After traveling to Arizona to get the contents of the box, Frankie decides to ask for help, from a family friend Victoria Colby- Camp, travelling to the windy city, Chicago.
It is here Victoria, enlists the aid of Aiden Abbot former Interpol agent working for her company to work the case and protect Frankie. So now the setup is clear….we have a
go !!!

I must tell you I read everything these ladies write, and the spell that they weave is magic. This story has so many elements for the reader, the mystery, the excitement, the ‘little white lie of fun’ telling Frankie’s mother that they are engaged. Aiden’s need to stop and buy Frankie an engagement ring…was to die for!!!! I also loved the serious step by step workings of two researchers working together for a common goal and to see that love that can grow between two people who respect each other made it even more believable….A not to be missed story.

Francesca "Frankie" Leone is trying to prove her Father, a US Army General was framed for treason. After his conviction her Father committed suicide and Frankie is determined to clear his name. She runs into one dead end after another until she receives a mysterious phone call. She meets with the caller and is led to a safe deposit box which has information that seems to confirm what she has believed all along, her Mother had something to do with her Fathers downfall. Now she wants to travel to see her estranged Mother. She consults one person she can trust, the owner of the Colby Agency who insists that an agent
go with her for protection. Aiden Abbot, a former Interpol agent, now working security for the Colby Agency is assigned to go with her. Frankie decides he should pose as her fiancé hoping that will allow them to get closer to her Mother. The more information they uncover the greater the danger they face and the greater the attraction between Frankie and Aiden. I enjoyed the way Frankie and Aiden interacted with each other and there was plenty of suspense to keep me interested. Another great collaboration between Debra and Regan.

Gunning For The Groom by Debra Webb And Regan Black Debra Webb and Regan Black are my favorite dynamic writing duo, and I am so glad they continued the Colby Agency saga with Gunning for the Groom. Did Frankie's father who was an awarded general kill himself or is something more sinister afoot. If her dad was murdered, who did the deed? Frankie Leone, former SEAL and analyst for local law enforcement, and Aidan Abbott, former Interpol agent, work together to solve this mystery. In the process they fall in love and share their stories of how they overcame major life challenges.

The characters were interesting and well-developed. I liked this who done it. The plot held suspense until the very end of the book. The characters evolved over the course of the story. I like this aspect of Webb's and Black's writing - I really care about their characters and what happens to them.

I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next chapter of Colby Agency.

Always love a Debra Webb book and was excited to get this..it is the first in the Colby Agency: Family Secrets. This is a series that you will remember Victoria Colby-Camp and her hubby from other Colby Agency series. In this book Frankie goes to Victoria for help after being led to a box with info about her father. She hasn't talked to her mom since her dad died. Victoria sends Frankie and Aidan to her hometown to work undercover. Frankie and Aidan come up with an undercover story on the plane. They are both almost killed several times as the story unfolds. I have to admit I had figured out the bad guy in this book..I just didn't know how they would catch the person! A great read. Look forward to the next in the series

I liked Frankie as a heroine but hated Aiden. He came across as a needy child then a strong Alpha male. He also seemed to fall in love rather quickly and unrealistically. Case in point, he met, fell in love and got engaged with his deceased fiancee all within a week and he does same with Gabi - though not so quickly but still unrealistically. Gabi's mom & dad story is next in the series and also one to skip....review on that coming soon...

"The lead-off book in the Colby Agency spinoff series, Family Secrets, is fraught with intrigue and a mystery that, given the added family dynamic and the heroine’s injury, makes it more of a tense and emotional nail-biter. The story and relationship flow with relative ease" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
