I know I have read all these books before but it makes no difference, they are still great! Still worth every bit of the five stars I keep giving them!
Visions in Death has so many good bits in it. The scene where Mavis asks Eve and Roarke to be present at the baby's birth is unforgettable and it was good to see Roarke for once as unable to handle things as Eve was. The last part of the book after Peabody has her accident was very emotional. And then the sudden twist at the end just when you think everything is sorted was amazing.
Also amazing is that J.D. Robb is able to make each book just as fresh and entertaining as the one before. Long may she continue:)

You remember that scene in the Alien movie where the alien comes bursting through that guy's stomach in a bloody, disgusting mess? I think this is Eve's idea of what happens in the delivery room during the miracle of birth. She is more than just a little freaked out that her bestie, Mavis, wants Eve to be there during the birth of her baby. Of course, Roarke is totally understanding of Eve's feelings:
"Take a drink, darling," Roarke said with a laugh in his voice. "Put your head between your knees if you feel dizzy."
Sure, it's funny when it's Eve who has to be there. Not so funny when he finds out that the happy couple wants him in the room too.
"ah, I'm not sure it's quite proper for me to be... to see Mavis in that condition. Under those... circumstances."
Now they are both uncomfortable. Much better. Nothing like sharing your fears and anxiety with your partner. But, Eve must have had some sort of experience with childbirth. She has been a cop for a long time, right?
"Once, when I was still on patrol, we had to take this woman into a health center. Jesus, she was screaming like somebody was ramming steel spikes into her crotch.... And, something gives way in there, and stuff's pouring out of her. Fluids, you know?"
"I don't, no. And I don't care to."
Haha! This whole thing cracked me up so much. I'll never forget when I was my bestie's birthing coach and left the room, after many hours and the watching the baby being born, with my skirt soaked in amniotic fluid. That was one of the best experiences of my life. Somehow, I don't think Eve and Roarke are quite cut-out for the whole birthing experience.
So, this book's mystery had a serial killer who beat, raped, killed, and then took the eyeballs of women. Just another day in New York. And, eyeballs? Really? That's very gross. If you need to save a trinket, take a lock of hair or some jewelry for goodness sake. Leave the gooey gross eyeballs right where they belong.
There is something in this book that made me extremely nervous for a bit, and then something that took me by surprise at the end. So, overall, it was awesome.

5 Stars!! Another great read for a series that never disappoints and an author who always delivers!!
J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts does it again. She manages to write another engaging mystery with characters that are familiar, and seem to develop with each book. In this one, the relationship between Eve and Peabody solidifies itself, it was always a good one, but a defining moment not only strengthens their partnership, but also their friendship. Eve opens up to Peabody and she finally realizes how much this woman cares for her. This changes her entire perspective on friendship and although she still bitches about it, she starts to view the few people that she's allowed in her life differently. The ever patient and scrumptious RRRRRRoarke, is always at her side, nudging her along.
Peabody has been a favorite of mine since she stepped foot into the pages of this series. Never one to keep her thought's or opinion’s to herself, she keeps Eve in check and challenges her constantly. This can make for some very amusing moments, especially when Eve is raging over some technical issue or just people and life in general. Peabody’s pairing with McNab is quirky and sweet, a match made in heaven!! Although Roarke is always a pleasure to read about, he took a bit of a back seat here, and Peabody stole the show! Unfortunately, Peabody’s life takes a tragic turn and we see the roles reversed, and Eve’s love for Peabody is evident when she vows to avenge her.
I loved the gruesome nature of the crime (it's a sickness, don't judge me) and the involvement of many of the characters we know from the past; Dr. Mira, Feeney, Louise, Charles, Nadine, Baxter, even Summerset, that help solve the mystery. Oh my and the twist, what an awesome twist. Took me by surprise…loved it!! Another favorite character of mine is Mavis, Eve’s first friend, makes an appearance with the sweet Leonardo. They want Eve and Roarke to attend the birth of their child, and join them in the birthing classes leading up to the big day. The reaction of the two of them is priceless. I can understand Eve, but Roarke…LMAO!!! So funny!
So can the author keep up the momentum? Apparently so, I’m only halfway through the series and from what I can see, readers still love it, I'm looking forward to the continuing the journey!
I can’t go without mentioning the awesome narrator, Susan Ericksen. She is as much a part of this series to me as Eve and Roarke. I started out reading this series, you know actual books, but once I heard her narration, I was hooked and there is no turning back!!

I LOVE Eve & Roarke sooooo much. <3
He pressed a hand to her shoulder to hold her down when she started to spring up. "I'm your wake-up call, complete with coffee." He moved the cup into her line of sight.
And watched her eyes glaze over with longing.
" Gimme."
He eased back, handed it over, waited while she took her first, desperate swallow. "You know, darling, if caffeine ever makes it to the illegals list, you're going to have to register as an addict."
"They try to make coffee an illegal, I'll kill them all, and it won't be an issue. How do I rate coffee in bed?"
"I love you."
"Yeah, you do." She took another gulp, grinned. "Sucker."
"That's no way to persuade me to get you a second cup."
"I love you back?"
"That would probably work."
ROARKE :)

After reading the latest In Death books, I went back to my bookshelf this weekend and re-read some of my favorites. It was nice to see what drew me to this series and what I hope to see again one day.
"Visions in Death" follows Eve and company as they try to track down a serial killer. I really do love this one because we get to see the friendship of Eve and Peabody come full circle. We have fan favorites like Louise and Charles show up too (I love Charles). We have Feeney, Summerset, and Mavis. Heck, we even have Nadine. For once the huge cast of characters does very well together, though there were a couple of minor things that happened that took me out of the story. And what I really love is that Robb threw in a twist in the ending too. You think you know what went down til Eve reveals all. I will give Robb crap for that though since I wish we had seen clues of this in the book. I am not a fan when a mystery writer hides the clues so to speak to give a surprise ending to the audience.
Eve in "Visions in Death" is doing her best to track down a serial killer. The man leaves women dead, taking their eyes with him (shudder). As more and more women start to pile up, Eve is actually reluctantly inclined to involve a psychic in the hunt for the serial killer. What I do love about the "In Death" books which I wish that Robb would go back to more, is that men and women who are psychic or have the ability to read people are prevalent in this world. No one is mocking it and not saying it's not real. And in one of the earlier books, Robb mentions that Dr. Mira has a daughter who is psychic.
What I really do love about this book is that we see a transformed Eve in this one. She opens up to Peabody and lets her know about her past. Because of what the revelations about Eve's past could do to her current position on the NYPD, not a lot of people know about what happened to Eve as a child and also what she ended up doing (if you have read this series before now, you know that she murdered her father when he was about to beat and rape her again). Having her tell Peabody about that felt right. And Peabody's reaction to the news confirms what she had started to suspect regarding Eve and her empathy for Eve breaks you a bit when you read it in print.
Roarke is Roarke in this one. He is juggling his billion dollar a day businesses while helping Eve in her hunt for this killer. When someone close to them gets injured, Roarke is all in to bring the person down. We also get to see Roarke in the end with Eve and they actually have a serious talk about what they want done if they die (it's grim, but believe me when you read that scene you get it).
As I said above, we also get welcomed appearances by many in the "In Death" family. They are introduced organically and do not wreck the flow of the story at all. I really do wish at times we could go back to the earlier books when we didn't have so many people to keep track of. Ah well.
The writing is top notch Robb. This is one of the earlier books and the payoff of 18 books and novellas at this point is really worth it. I did think the writing got a bit too much at one point when Eve is interviewing someone (no spoilers) and the person went from being out of it and high as anything due to meds being pumped in to being able to give a report to Eve in five seconds. Apparently in the future, meds work really fast.
The flow as I said earlier works.
The setting of the crimes takes place in Central Park. I have never been there, but Robb manages to capture the location and the many people/women in this story brilliant. I have said before, Robb does a good job with tertiary characters in this book I found. She manages to make them feel real to you in just a few short paragraphs. I have always wondered what happened to people after Eve no longer is investigating. In some of the books they do pop up again which is nice.
As I said, this book has a twist thrown in that when I first read it years ago I remember had my mouth hanging open. I was surprised as anything. Of course now re-reading this, I already knew that the twist was coming. But I have to say, that even though Eve lays everything out to you. I wish that we as readers had gotten more clues our way that this was an option.

4.5 stars. I just finished saying that every time I pick one of these books up, I think I can't possibly love the characters more. And every damn time, I'm completely, happily wrong about that.
Eve is so cranky here 😂, with all the people pushing their way uninvited into her heart. Unfortunately for her prickly nature, once Roarke shattered her armor, it exposed that shockingly soft center, and there's no keeping them out now.
This book took me from from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. I laughed so hard I shed tears *pregnant Mavis is the best* and then I shed more tears, but not the happy kind at all . 🥺
The case here was horrendous and though none of the bad guys are ever a match for Eve, this one was truly frightening. I was afraid for all of them.
I genuinely love every single book-person in this series and look forward to being back with them in the next one. 💕

Suspense 5 stars / Romance 4.5 stars
A serial killer, who beat and raped his victims and cut their eyes off. Bloody hell. Horrible.
Reading about his private chemistry at the end made me pause and breath deep. Inhuman.
A sudden ‘help’ of psychic, who sees the murder in her dreams.
Twist at the very end caught me by surprise. I didn’t expect it. Totally shocked.
Romance. Sweet caring strong Roarke. He saw a lot in his life, but this case affected him too.
Peabody was hurt, she was one of the victims. She fought, she survived.
Eve, my hero!

Great book - this was actually the very first book I read in the series, liked it so much had to buy the all the others and read them from the start (a few times now).
Excellent series of books.
John Blue is the epitome of serial killers - and poor Peabody in this book. Lots of dialogue and detective work, then mix in a psychic with an agenda of her own and that equals a very fluid read!

This was another excellent episode in this very good series by J.D Robb. Eve Dallas and her partner, the new promoted Delia Peabody have a lot on their hands with a serial killer killing and mutilating women walking through parks at night. They know they need to rapidly work out his motives and how he picks his victims if they are to stop him before the bodies pile up even more but so far he has left no clues behind. When a psychic approaches Eve to tell she she has seen visions of the killings, Eve reluctantly agrees to involve her in the case, despite her disbelief in psychics.
As well as writing a good thriller Robb always manages to keep us up to date with the lives of Eve and her friends. Eve and Peabody have become even closer friends since Peabody became her partner, although Eve really doesn't want to hear about Peabody's and McNab's relationship and the details of their plan to move in together. But she does finally trust Peabody enough to tell her something of her abusive childhood. Mavis's pregnancy is also progessing and much to Eve's horror, Mavis has decided she should be one of her birth buddies - that's a scene I'm looking forward to! 4.5★

Eve and Peabody have become even closer friends since Peabody became her partner, although Eve really doesn't want to hear about Peabody's and McNab's relationship and the details of their plan to move in together. Yine de çok güzeldi, hatta hafızama kazınan bir olay da bu kitaptaymış. Çok fazla kitap ve hikaye olunca haliyle birbirlerine girmeye başladılar. Yayınlanan tüm kitaplarını bu sene içinde bitirme planım var, epsilon da tutturduğu bu ritmi bozmaz umarım.

I feel like all of my reviews for this series have just turned into me raving about how good it is but seriously, how often do you get nineteen books into and STILL excitedly devour the books as fast a possible? I can't think of any apart from this one where I've already read so many books but am excited that I'm not even halfway through the currently published titles!
Of course this wouldn't be an In Death book if Eve wasn't on the hunt for a psychotic murderer and this one is taking great pleasure in beating and raping his victims before cutting out their eyeballs for souvenir. Eve is always willing to do whatever it takes to stop a killer but this time she's forced to try something she's never considered before when a psychic comes to her claiming to be seeing visions of the deaths. She's extremely sceptical about the whole thing but the psychic has information that only the murderer should know so Eve is forced to at least consider using her as a resource.
As much as I enjoy the murder investigations (and this one had a doozy of a twist at the end!) it's really the characters that keep me coming back for more. I've gushed many times about how much I love Eve and Roarke as a couple and nothing has changed that but I also enjoy seeing their friendship circle grow as they both learn to let others into their inner circle. Not such a big deal for Roarke but definitely something very new for Eve. It's been hilarious watching Eve deal with the fact that her bestie Mavis is pregnant, she's so totally out of her comfort zone whenever anything pregnancy related comes up and this book has some absolute laugh out loud conversations with Eve, Mavis and Roarke.
I also really respect the friendship that has developed between Eve and Peabody, Eve tried so hard to keep her distance but it's been impossible. Eve's world is rocked to the core when Peabody becomes a target and there were some really emotional scenes because of that. This book was one of my favourites in the series so far (and yes I realise I seem to be saying that with pretty much each book I read!) and I definitely can't wait to dive into the next one. If you haven't started this series yet don't let the number of books put you off, it really is worth reading!

This read was 4 - 4-1/2 *'s for me. Loaded as usual with action and lots of interactions between Eve/Roarke and her extended family. Loved the continuation of Eve and Peabody's relationship, seeing McNab and Peabody becoming more of a unit, as well as her cop family. And thank God she finally got a decent ride.

Eve and Roarke are fantastic, as always, but in this book Eve and Peabody deepen their friendship and it is wonderful to see Eve open herself up to their friendship. Loved the surprise ending, I definitely did not see that coming.

When a psychic contacts her, Eve is a skeptic, at first. When Eve is contacted in the middle of the night by Celina Sanchez and told of another attack, Eve moves from skeptic to believer. Using Nadine and the power of the media, Eve pokes the bear in the hopes of getting him to make a mistake, instead he attacks Peabody. He has made a mistake, a big one. With Roarke's help, Eve finally has the lead she needs to track down this killer.

5 stars - Romantic Suspense/Futuristic/Romantic Thriller
I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but holy cow this series is freaking fantastic with amazing characters I just can't get enough of! And this is definitely one of my favorite ID books, so far. The part where Peabody had me sobbing like a baby. I'm diving into the next one!

It was another good story, and sometimes more on the gruesome side. The killer was truly messed up and really hated women. All of them. Twist towards the end was unexpected and I didn't see it coming.

Another great read. Great series. Great characters. I want to be Eve's partner and kick some serious ass. I want to make friends with all of them and maybe just maybe if I could get away with it, give Roarke a big kiss on the lips. Yeah, yeah... I am a perve. What can I say? Roarke is the best. *dreamy sigh*
So in here, we have a serial killer that beats, rapes, strangles women to death. Not only that, he mutilates them by taking out their eyes postmortem. *shudders* The private cemetery and that twist near the end. Shocking! I will never get bored with this series. Will never get enough of it. On to the next one.

This installment was amazing! The mystery was very well done, and I had no clue until the reveal as to who was the culprit! Also, there was an amazing twist in regards to the culprit! The realizations that Eve came to in regards to Peabody during the course of the investigation were both necessary and heartwarming. The fact that was especially touching, especially Peabody's reaction toward the end of it! This one was hard for me to put down and I immediately wanted to grab another!

The focus is on a serial killer and a psychic. If you're interested, there is a chronological listing of the In Death books on my website.
My Take
It's only taken multiple readings and into this nineteenth installment, to realize that Eve's and Roarke's relationship in the In Death series is an "explanation" of love. Sure, there's plenty of snark; disagreements; and arguments over which side of the line the other stands on, if Eve should eat, get treated for injuries, or sleep, lol. There's also the strength of knowing the other is there for you, the joy of exercising . . . including the sex! Those ordinary day-to-days of sharing a meal, a shower, and a bed. Which makes it all a bouquet of love, in all its glories.
Of course, Roarke has his own ways of getting Eve riled with his enjoyment of irritating her. He's so supportive, so in love, and he still gets a kick out of poking at her, forcing her to do what's best for her health.
Nor is theirs the only personal insight. Poor Feeney. His wife wants him to wear color — makes him look like a manager for street LCs, lol. His boys think he looks iced *more laughter*.
For all of Roarke's technical prowess, Eve is the anti-tech. Her computer at work hates her. Her police-issue vehicles are pathetic — the mechanics hate her, lol. Well, okay, she does have a bad habit of bunging up cars, lol. In the latest "mishap", Eve pushes Peabody into promising lewd behavior for her replacement car. As for her relationship with vending machines . . . don't ask, just laugh.
Its stories like these that make me want people to pass a test to become parents. Oy. The Vanderleas pass with flying colors — I LOVE their take on Vonnie.
Robb definitely uses a third person global subjective point-of-view as we receive perspectives from a number of characters. Yeah, Eve's and Roarke's perspectives are the most common, but we also hear from others. Some of which will make you cry, stun you in anger, and make you laugh.
Visions in Death is full of characters and pumped with action. It twists and turns through to the ultimate betrayal.

Her friends include Dr Louise Dimatto who runs the Canal Street Clinic and puts in time at Dochas. Charles Monroe, a highly successful Licensed Companion (LC), is in a relationship with Louise. Now. He had dated Peabody. Mavis Freestone, the pregnant, colorful, singing sensation, is cohabbing with Leonardo, a famous fashion designer. Nadine Furst is Channel 75's on-air ace reporter with a heart. Crack, a big, beautiful black man, runs a sex club, the Down and Dirty.

Detective Delia Peabody is Dallas' partner — who has finally settled on her "detective" look, *grin*. Baxter is another Homicide detective. Captain Ryan Feeney, in charge of the Electronic Detectives Division (EDD), had been Dallas' partner, mentor, and father figure. Detective Ian McNab is a colorful fashion plate and in love with Peabody. Dr Charlotte Mira is the head profiler for the NYPSD and friends with Eve. She also figures as a mother to her. I do like the clothes she wears. It says so much about her . . . as well as providing a contrast of Charley at home. Commander Jack Whitney is Dallas' boss. Tibble is the police chief. Dick Berenski is the talented and despised chief lab tech. Ursa Harvo is the Queen of Hair and the Fiber Princess. Detective Yancy is the talented police artist. Briscoll and Ute go undercover. Dr Li Morris is the chief medical examiner and another friend of Eve's.
Celina Sanchez, a friend of Louise's, is a licensed psychic who prefers to work the fun side of it. One of her regular clients include Francine with a bad case of husbanditis. Lucas Grande, a musician and successful songwriter, is Celina's ex and is currently involved with Annalisa Somers, who has her dream job. Some of his fellow friends and musicians include John Bird and Katelee Poder.
Elisa Maplewood, divorced from an abusive husband, has a four-year-old daughter, Yvonne "Vonnie". Vonnie is best friends with the Vanderleas' daughter Zanna, also four. Elisa works for Luther (he owns Vanderlea Antiquities) and Deann Vanderlea. Mignon is the Vanderleas' teacup poodle who has bonded with Elisa. Abel Maplewood, Elisa's father, has a variety of offenses on his record and lives in Philadelphia.
Marjorie Kates, a restaurant manager at Appetito, was reported missing; her case is being worked by Lansing and Jones. Marjorie's fiancé, Royce Cabel, reported her missing. Breen Merriweather was a studio tech at Channel 75; her case is being worked by Polinski and Silk. Annalou Harbor had been Breen's childcare provider for her son, Jesse. Officer Queeks found Lily Napier, a waitress at O'Hara's Bar and Grill, which is run by an O'Hara who came over from Dublin. Michael runs a stick at the bar; he was on Lily's shift with Rose Donnelly, Kevin and Maggie Lannigan, and Pete Maguire. Carleen Steeple is Lily's sister and married to Andy; Kiki and Drew are their children. Rip is Lily's ex-husband. Lena Greenspan had been a thirty-year-old mother of two. Kurt Richards, formerly a power forward for the Knicks, is the manager at a clothing store for really big men. Randall Beam is managing his anger issues through craftwork — doesn't mean he's a pansy though! Loelle is an LC at Roundhouse, a bar on Fourth. Ike Steenburg is a friend of Randall's. "Jib" Jibson and Mike Jacobs, an art teacher, who is dating Essie Fort, a paralegal at Driscoll, Manning, and Fort, all witnessed the attack on Peabody.
Ineza Blue is a retired LC with a son, John Blue, a two-hundred-and-eighty-pound man with issues.
Dochas is a women's shelter inspired by Dallas and built by Roarke. Abra is one of the children; Marly is her mother, who is so grateful that Dochas exists. Jana is in labor. The Irish Moira O'Bannion is the counselor in charge.

The Cover and Title
The fuchsia in the author's name and the banner separating the top from the graphic on the bottom is VIVID. The top two-thirds of the cover has a black background which really makes the author's name pop. Above the name is an info blurb in white. In the banner is the title in a white outlined black, like a neon tube! The graphic at the bottom is a messy collage of red ribbon and a cop walking a white cadaver dog across a moonlit field.
The title is what Celina has, Visions in Death.
My Take
"When people talk about Roarke's cop . . . they say she's a little scary, a little mean, and very relentless."Eve cracks me up with her friend frustration. She does appreciate those friends she has, but dang . . . there are so many rules! It is intriguing to watch her friendship with Peabody develop and the stresses Eve goes through to survive her childhood. More stress arrives for both Eve and Roarke when Mavis informs them that they're part of her birth coaching team, oh, man, lololol. Having friends also means you can unload part of your past, as when Eve unloads to Peabody about her stabbing her father.

The Cover and Title
The fuchsia in the author's name and the banner separating the top from the graphic on the bottom is VIVID. The top two-thirds of the cover has a black background which really makes the author's name pop. Above the name is an info blurb in white. In the banner is the title in a white outlined black, like a neon tube! The graphic at the bottom is a messy collage of red ribbon and a cop walking a white cadaver dog across a moonlit field.
The title is what Celina has, Visions in Death.

Oh the one-two punch ending!
Book nineteen and Eve finally tells Peabody about her past abuse. This whole book was very Peabody in the best way. She’s become her own badass - finally.
There’s a serial killer on the loose in New York and a psychic has offered her assistance. Eve will take any help save lives but she’s no mark.
