Penelope "Penny" Jones was born on November 24, 1946 at about seven pounds in a nursing home in Preston, Lancashire, England. She was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, an engineer, who died at 85, and his wife Margaret Louise Groves Jones. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru".
She had been a keen reader from the childhood - her mother used to leave her in the children's section of their local library whilst she changed her father's library books. She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister Prue, who was always the heroine. At eleven, she fell in love with Mills & Boon, and with their heroes. In those days the books could only be obtained via private lending libraries, and she quickly became a devoted fan; she was thrilled to bits when the books went on full sale in shops and she could have them for keeps.
Penny left grammar school in Rochdale with O-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. She first discovered Mills & Boon books, via a girl she worked with. She married Steve Halsall, an accountant and a "lovely man", who smoked and drank too heavily, and suffered oral cancer with bravery and dignity. Her husband bought her the small electric typewriter on which she typed her first novels, at a time when he could ill afford it. He died at the beginning of 21st century.
She earned a living as a writer since the 1970s when, as a shorthand typist, she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, Penny found an agent who was looking for a new Georgette Heyer. She published four regency novels as Caroline Courtney, before changing her nom de plume to Melinda Wright for three air-hostess romps and then she wrote two thrillers as Lydia Hitchcock. Soon after that, Mills and Boon accepted her first novel for them, Falcon's Prey as Penny Jordan. However, for her more historical romance novels, she adopted her mother's maiden-name to become Annie Groves. Almost 70 of her 167 Mills and Boon novels have been sold worldwide.
Penny Halsall lived in a neo-Georgian house in Nantwich, Cheshire, with her Alsatian Sheba and cat Posh. She worked from home, in her kitchen, surrounded by her pets, and welcomed interruptions from her friends and family.
Re The Marriage Resolution - Penny Jordan's final HP outing in the Sweet Revenge/Seduction series is a long parted lovers reunion romance.
This time the overall Mastermind of the Hunt for the Slime Slurper Julian, wealthy investment genius Dee, is about to get a blast from the past in the form of Hugo - an English Aristocrat who resents his family's wealth, that was made off the exploitation of the lower classes, and a determined do-gooder in remote areas while earning a PhD.
We learn that Dee had no luck in finding Julian in Asia, plus her dead father's charity is failing to meet the needs of the younger generations in Dee's community, so Dee needs to guide her dad's charity into a new direction.
Unfortunately for Dee, the elderly board of directors for her father's charity see no need to help the younger generations find employment and educational opportunities - they are only concerned with helping the elderly in the area and for many years have directed all the charitable funds towards this goal.
In flashback, we learn that Dee and Hugo met at university. Handsome Hugo was chased by an endless parade of shockingly sexual and frank about it ladies and Dee was the epitome of old fashioned Good Girl who wasn't about to break her father's antiquated idears about ladies and their baser urges.
So Dee spent a lot of time at uni being lady like and very chaste, until she and her bike ran into Hugo and it was Lurve Force Mojo Passion Red Alerts at First Sight.
Hugo was young and very priggish and very smug about helping the unfortunate in Africa and VERY opinionated about how great wealth should be used for charity purposes only and not for personal enrichment. But he and Dee courted and fell in love and were soon on the pill and having lurve club events every day.
The only big problem was that Dee's father DID NOT approve of Hugo and Hugo DID NOT approve of the entrepreneurial drive of Dee's father - no matter that Dee's father did a lot of charity work. To Hugo, just generating the kind of wealth Dee and her father are able to make in their financial investments and not actively suffering with the people in third world countries made them bad (or at least dubious and suspect) people.
(Tho since Hugo decided that Dee could give up her own dreams and follow him around Africa as his handmaiden while he climbed the ladder of charitable directorships, she can be redeemed.)
Dee feels very torn between her father and Hugo - ironically both of them are very similar, but the money vs field work situation continually leaves Dee feeling pulled between two elephants.
It is then that Slime Slurper Julian hits the scene and manages to scam a few thousand pounds out of Dee's father's favorite charities. He also threatens to tell everyone in the county that Dee's father was in on the scam and the stress and threat to Dee's father's reputation leads Dee's father to his death.
We will never know for sure, but Dee's father drowned in suspicious circumstances and Dee is positive it was either outright murder by Julian or suicide by her father.
Hugo smugly takes off to work out his trip plans to Save Africa, while Dee has to deal with the aftermath of her father's death and foment on a Grand Plan O' Vengeance.
Since Julian is still threatening to blacken Dee's father's reputation and her father was so distraught the last time Dee spoke with him, Dee decides she has to manage the damage control herself and take control of her father's charities while building her own personal wealth.
Dee also knows that smug and priggish Hugo will go on and on about Dee's father's possible corruption blackening and besmirching his own reputation and future do-gooder status. Tho it is very clear that Dee's father was conned and he personally replaced all the missing money out of his own funds.
So Dee, probably wisely, tells Hugo off when he finally gets around to asking why she isn't at uni and Dee then kicks smug prig Hugo to the curb. Hugo has a temper tantrum, but is soon on the plane to Africa and by the time Dee has second thoughts, it is too late and Hugo is gone.
Ten years go by and now Dee wants to refocus the charitable efforts of her father's charity legacy. But the board doesn't want to hear it and then Hugo gets called in to become the proxy charity director of Dee's father's elderly BFF - who is too ill to continue on in person.
Dee and Hugo meet again and it is highly antagonistic. Hugo is still making asinine assumptions and Dee is a controlling megalomaniac who doesn't think things through. When Dee tries to explain her hopes for the new goals of the charity, Hugo shouts her down and Dee storms off.
But Dee has backup firepower. The businessman husbands of the other ladies in her circle have helped her write a really great proposal to get the county's young people into trades and careers and keep the economy of the area growing.
Hugo eventually listens to the proposals and follows Dee home in just enough time to catch her from hitting the floor when the news of Julian's Final Slime Gulp Moment arrives.
As Dee learns Julian is dead, probably as a result of failing to pay off certain dubious financial debts in Asia, she collapses and Hugo is right there to pick her up and carry her off to bed.
There is a HUGE boudoir bouncing moment, cause both Hugo and Dee have been saving up their love for ten long and lonely years.
Once the Lurve Force Mojo Golden Shore has been landed at, Dee and Hugo are starry eyed in love again and Hugo takes up his shiny knight armor to defend Dee's new charitable goals.
Dee and Hugo decide that the passionate reconnection of their spark has led to the creation of new life, so they make plans to marry right away and help the youth of their area at the same time by the creation of various grant and trade programs.
We leave Dee and Hugo having a wedding, with all the prior H and h's helping to set up the new teen and young adult outreach programs and everyone is in love and preggers and celebrating the day for one last PJ Pink Sparkly Suspense Series HEA.
This one was okay, tho I really wasn't feelin' the lurve for either Dee or Hugo. Both were domineering control addicts who only saw things their way or the highway, but strangely, it really worked for them.
Plus, I figure these two were so focused on getting their way with each other, that it boded well for the other characters in the preceding books, cause Dee couldn't continue to come up with hair brained revenge schemes that might get one of them seriously injured or killed.
I also liked that Julian got his just deserts in a totally nice off page PJ ladylike kind of way and Dee and Hugo could now focus on tormenting the area teens into success stories.
Even if the poor teens only worked hard just so they could escape the relentless importuning of two misguided do-gooders determined to give the whole PJ shire their version of a hard working and respectable PJ HPlandia HEA.

H/h split up after university because heroine wouldn’t accompany the hero while he did charitable work in Africa. She had been torn between her wealthy father’s wishes and the hero. When daddy died during final exams, heroine fell apart and sent hero away. Since then, she has pined and has devoted all her time to her father’s charitable foundation.
The charity heroine ran felt really dated. Hero’s savior complex was at odds with the judgey way he treated the heroine throughout their courtship and their reunion after ten years. Heroine’s daddy issues (and the half-baked revenge plot from the series) seemed to be the biggest stumbling block to her happiness. H/h relationship centered around sex. They never talked about their interests or did much of anything together.
I thought this was a decent romance. Dee, although likable, very much played the role of martyr. She dumped the love of her life, Hugo, thinking this action would protect the people she loved. Dee's intentions were noble but she never discussed her fears with Hugo, denying him the opportunity to support her. A big and bittersweet mistake because Hugo and Dee were so passionately in love! I believe they could have worked something out.
Much of their love story played out via flashbacks. Consequently, Dee and Hugo's current relationship wasn't explored very much at all in present day. It's soon made clear though that they still love each other, with the two reconciling to achieve their delayed Happily Ever After.
This is the final book in the series and a reunion. Penny Jordan does reunion romances particularly well and I really looked forward to this finish to the series.
Dee is a business woman who has skills and after her father's death ten years ago, she took over his business and has been striving to ensure his philanthropic legacy lives on. No thanks to Julian Cox.
The one thing she really regrets was sending Hugo Montpelier away after her father's death. His ambitions required years away from England doing relief work in third world countries and most importantly, no hint of scandal.
Now Hugo is back and in conflict with Dee's plans for her father's charitable legacy.
A lot of this book is flashback to the romance between Dee and Hugo ten years ago. It worked quite well for me, though modern thought is that you shouldn't put in great slabs of backstory. I really enjoyed reliving how Dee and Hugo fell in love and seeing the cracks that eventually led to the breaking of the relationship.
The ending was very satisfying and the revenge plot around Julian Cox was rounded up nicely.
Okay, once again this is not Penny Jordan's finest work. The whole thing starts in a rather rambling and confused sort of way as we get to know Dee - our heroine (a woman who, if the cover illustrator's interpretation of her is anything to go by, is quite frankly, frightening and predatory in appearance). The novel then progresses and backtracks in a disorientated manner as Dee reminisces about her earlier relationship with Hugo (again, very frightening in appearance - AND mannerisms it would seem - personally, if my first meeting with a man had involved him knocking me off my bike and then haranguing me about "making babies", you wouldn't see me for dust); but I should remember that Jordan only has 187 pages to get them together and married and expecting those babies, so her hero can't afford to be anything other than direct. She also goes back over her history with a character called Julian Cox, who befriended her adored father before commiting fraud on his company accounts. Then thrown into the mix is also a story line about how Dee wants to form a charity for the many disenchanted teenagers who have nothing better to do (for an entire novel, mind) than hang out in front of the Post Office in her idyllic market town, but her former University professor, who also happens to be an old friend of her father and a member of her father's charity committee, doesn't like the "youth of today" (strange choice of profession for him, then - or maybe that's what's put him off) and he wants to oppose her plans. Confused? Well, it certainly doesn't make for a very good romance. In fact, as a romantic novel, it's rubbish. However, as a story concerning the world of finance and economics, it's surprisingly good. Dee turns out to be a lot better than she looks and her character is amazingly quite engaging. Hugo's a bit of a non-character, but then the male lead never gets to do much in these things other than make suggestive remarks in a husky male voice, at various imperative moments, talk about making babies and knock women off their bikes, so that shouldn't come as much of a surprise to any M&B reader out there. If you dismiss the other, confusing elements and characters in the story, it's really rather enjoyable to read. Incidentally, I once worked with an Accounts Manager who looked the spitting image of the woman on the cover of this book - must be a finance thing.
The final book in the quartet, (The Mistress Assignment, Lover by Deception, a Treacherous Seduction, and The Marriage Resolution make up the quartet), and it’s Dee’s story. Ten years ago, Dee and Hugo had a thing. They promised to love each other, get married, and start a family. Then Dee’s Dad died, and Dee had to put it all on hold, due in no small part to the actions of one Julian Cox. Six months ago, Dee and her friends tried to get revenge on Julian Cox for his scamming, and treatment of Beth, but that fell through when Kelly, Anne, and Beth all fell in love. (See the previous books in the quartet). Now, Hugo is back, and he is now involved with the charitable fund that Dee manages. As with the third book in the quartet, much of this one is in flashbacks. There we learn how a young Dee met and fell for Hugo, when he knocked her off her bike. We learn how obsessed he is with his charitable ideals, and realize he is a little too self-absorbed as far as that goes. Dee seems to have an unhealthy obsession with her father, in no small part due to the fact she thinks he committed suicide over his falling for Julian Cox’s scams. Hence Dee’s hatred of Cox. As she has aged, she names everything after her dad, has huge photos of him in the house, and lives pretty much in his shadow. Honestly it didn’t seem a very good thing! While she was dating Hugo, her father was jealous of him and vice versa. She was stuck in the middle, and when her father died, Hugo was not around. When he did learn what happened, he stuck around a short while, but really made no attempt to contact Dee, and was gone to Africa by the time she came out of her fugue state! Later he thought she had married someone else, but never checked the information. Ultimately you discover that a little communication would have gone a long way, and this fixes ten years worth of mistakes, and they live happily ever after once they really talk! Dee had been a rather harsh and demanding character in the previous books, so her softer side was a little surprising, and suddenly her reason behind her harshness was revealed. It was a better book than the last one, but the first two books were better. Still, a sweet reunion romance.

This ties up the tales of four friends, Anna, Dee, Beth and Kelly. In this story we hear of Anna's past and all the hardships of her life, her father being cheated by Julian and his subsequent death meaning Dee had to take over the company thereby losing her relationship with Hugo Montpelier BUT now Hugo is back and is it too late for them to rekindle their love? A worthy ending to a great series of stories.
Dee had thought a career was enough to keep her happy and fulfilled. But now she regrets giving up her chance of marriage, babies and family life…. Especially when Hugo Montpelier, the man she once passionately loved, returns.
Their sexual hunger for one another is as strong as ever. Maybe marriage and motherhood can still be hers—but first she must dare to reveal the scandal she has kept secret for so long…. (less)
DNF This is the last book in the series. But just like in the previous book we see the H/h relationship in flashbacks. I wanted to see the relationship develop in real time in this one. Was exited to read Dee´s story.
Wuihh...cerita yg indah.. ^_^
