I've met a demon before.

Kokuryuu Kaguya is an orphaned teenager working part-time job at a coffee shop while he attends school, to help his aunt keep her inn open.

One ordinary day, after being forced to fight his school bully because he ratted him and his good for nothing friends out on shoplifting, (though, unintentionally) Kokuryuu is met with a bubbly, sweet, adorable...
Rabbit-girl..?

Mao is a peculiar kind of alien, one of a race born and raised on Earth's moon, and whose duty it is to defend our planet.
Mao is a Battle Rabbit.

The Battle Rabbits are interstellar warriors, and Mao only (crash-) landed on Earth for one reason.

"That form... A Battle Rabbit like me?!"

Dark demons known as ogres, monsters that feed on the life energy of depression, anger, and all negative emotions, roam the lands, killing their hosts and reeking havoc.
The Battle Rabbits are the only force strong enough to protect the human race from them.
And Kokuryuu is now one of that force.

Avenging the death of his father, and stumbling into the secret life of a multimillionaire CEO who isn't as he appears, Kokuyuu is determined to get to the bottom of his strange origins.
... If the ogres don't kill him first.

Ha! This is freaking adorable.
First you have this scrawny little dweeb playing the whole Peter Parker gambit, a little bunny rabbit girl hopping around with a laser canon rifle and to make things even better, there's all this over-exaggerated posing, announcement of one's station/position, and dramatics of a shonen anime.

The character development is non-existent, the world-building is sloppy, and the plot is as coherent as a fever dream, but the whole thing was frakking cute and lots of fun, what with these blushy, overdramatic characters and flash-bang action scenes.

art specs

Suuuper generic. The MC looks like CLAMP character, except with flatter facial expressions.
Mao was really cute, but not really different from any other cute female in this medium.
Passable. Not bad. Just seen it before. I've been spoiled by Isayama and Hirano.

I will say the action was fluid and moved well. Yukino has a good grasp on movement.

This is a slowly updated and slower translated series, so if you want to jump aboard, now's a good time.
An anime of this series would do great among the SAO and Gode Geass crowd.

I finally got to reading this book after it's been on my shelf for months! I decided to pick up this title because it's by the same person who created 07 Ghost and that is one of my favorite series

For the first volume, I felt like things progressed slowly but well for the type of story. I think the concept of it is interesting but it does follow the typical shounen story of the protagonists who wants to get revenge for a loved one getting murdered. The interesting part are the Battle Rabbits, which are a magical Moon race that protects the Earth. I'm curious as to where this is going so I will be continuing

A lot of the time in magical girl (or boy) anime, a character is ashamed of their magical form. I often wondered why, thinking they looked so cool and that I’d love to be seen looking like them. But in Battle Rabbits, the shame and bashfulness finally makes sense. I think that this design is meant to call upon this feeling of a kind of fashion and form that’s extremely humanoid, but so oddly alien at the same time. Most people likely wouldn’t want to be recognized in this form— I know that I wouldn’t.

Battle Rabbits was surprisingly a lot more fun than the cover made me feel that it would be. It gave off a feeling of a blend of a magical girl and shonen manga from the early 2000’s. The character design and world-building are both engaging, and I really want to draw fan art of Mao and even Kaguya in his battle rabbit form.
This manga is just a fun story to hop through; I can’t say that there’s much to invoke deeper thought as of yet.

I like the plot, I LOVE the art style and character designs, and the dialogue isn't terrible. My only problem with the dialogue is that Mao says 'desu' at the end of almost every speech bubble.

Takanomiya also rubs me the wrong way because he made it seem like he was going to let Kaguya come to him. Instead, he tricks, manipulates, and hypnotizes Kaguya into joining them. Kaguya doesn't join under his own free will. I have a problem with that. I understand it's only 4 volumes and they have to get through the story while building the world, but something could have been under his own free will. He can't even take the ring off that they forced on him.

Closer to 3.5 stars.

If I read this when I was first getting into manga at like 12-13 I would swear up and down that this is a masterpiece. It's very cute and fun despite being almost entirely made of tropes and themes that are super played out in action manga (or even manga in general) by now, but the fact that the hero battles by convincing people to think positively and not just with action is kinda neat. Also, is it possible for me to dislike like something that has rabbits as a motif? All signs point to no.

An engaging start to an entertaining new series by the duo of 07-ghost. The first installment is already filled with adventure, action, laughs, and emotion. I can't wait for more.

An interesting first volume. I wouldn’t mind continuing if I stumble upon the next few volumes.

I love Hijiri! He reminds me so much to Frau 😭💖

The story feels rushed but I’m liking it more now that I’m re-reading it again.

Manga isn't really my thing, but it passes the time when I volunteer at the library and there's nothing to do.
