I see something in Eli that he can’t see himself. He’s brilliant. He’s compassionate. And I’d be nothing if it weren’t for him, so I have to let him go. It’s for his own good.
Eli sees something in Grace that she can’t see herself. She’s resilient. She’s extraordinary. And he’d be nothing without her. Eli’s determined to get her back. It’s for his own good.
Told in the past and present, Let Me Go is the harrowing love story of Grace Wall and Eli Jackson. Beaten and bruised but never knocked down, Eli and Grace are faced with the question: What must you lose to have it all?
Warning: Contains graphic violence and sex. This book may be a trigger as it contains abuse. Let Me Go is book two in the Owned series but can be read as a stand alone.
*** ARC provided by the author via The Hype PR for an honest review *** Let Me Go is a beautiful and moving story about two tortured souls, Grace and Eli.
This book makes me sad, angry, but at the same time I could feel all the love. Mary Catherine knows how to write deep and gut-wrenching stories that goes straight to the heart.
Grace is running away from her family. Her childhood was just so horrible, and at times reading about all she went through was unbearable, she was abused verbally and physically. Even after all of it, she was still trying to fight, to have a better life. She’s a warrior and searching for her brother, Vic, maybe to find love she couldn’t have in her family.
Be prepared for a roller coaster of draining emotions. In her darkness, she found Eli, a young boy who showed her how to love and feeling loved.
Eli was one of the most interesting male character I met in a book. Brilliant and compassionate, he was Grace’s light in her darkness, wanting to protect her and to provide a better future far away from this shitty life.
After Grace’s disappearance, he never stopped searching for his soul mate, to bring her back to him. Damn, I really have a crush on him. His perseverance, unconditional love for her melt my heart.
Grace was too damaged mentally to feel free from her past. Starting a new life with a broken heart, wanting to reconnect with her brother.
When Eli, his childhood best friend and boyfriend found her again, Grace was still struggling. How to repair a damaged soul, shattered into pieces?
This book was kinda dark, twisted but I enjoyed it, even if the romance part was less expanded.
Let Me Go is a standalone novel, but I think you should read the first one of the series, You Own Me to get the full picture.
Mary Catherine is a promising author, writing stories that gonna shake you.
The story starts of teaching you about Grace and the type of person she is. She comes off as a little naive to the ways of the world and you catch yourself wondering what this woman has been through. Grace has traveled across the country in search of her long lost brother Vic. She comes looking for him and hoping build a family and life outside of the abuse and vile life that her violent father and broken mother have given her.
Then you meet Eli, Graces childhood best friend turned boyfriend and the love of Grace’s life. Throughout the course of the novel you discover that every punishment Grace’s father doles out on her for sneaking out to be with Eli, is worth it. Eli has loved Grace from the day her first met her. She is all he has ever wanted. He spent his young life teaching and protecting Grace from the ways of the world.
Grace however, thinks very little of herself and pushes Eli to take a chance at following his life dream and to leave her behind. She ends up putting herself through trials that only a woman deep in love would put herself through.
Heart wrenching pain and drama seem to be everywhere in Graces life and she has to fight her urges, her call to reach out to her stronghold, Eli. She longs for his safety and the promises of his enduring love even as much as she did in the past at her father’s home. But she knows that by reaching out to him, Eli will abandon everything else and Grace can’t face the idea that he would give up so much to be with her.
Book 2 in the Owned series, but can be read as a standalone novel. If you haven’t read book one (You Own Me) some of the interactions between Vic and Lennox may not make total sense, but these parts aren’t essential to the story of Grace and Eli. The book transitions between the past and the present and allows you to understand the bond between Grace and Eli. It also helps you love Grace even more when you experience the pain that daily physical abuse can cause.
Mary Catherine does a sublime job at making the reader face the truth about their own life. With well developed, highly complex characters and storylines, she captures real emotions and feelings. You can’t help but to acknowledge the ways that trauma and abuse, in any form, can cause lasting damages to a human psyche.
A beautiful story about survival self discovery, second chances, and love...
I really enjoyed book one in this series but I fell in love with Eli and Grace. I was totally consumed by each of them. So much that I couldn't put this book down.
Grace is naive, she's lived a VERY sheltered life. That life also wasn't a very good one. Having an abusive father and a mother who didn't step in to help her daughter could have really broken Grace. But she found a way to dig herself out and flee a toxic environment. That makes her strong in my book...she's out to find herself, and happiness.
Eli.....is so perfect, I mean not literally he has his faults but really he's an amazing hero that you can easily fall in love with. He's sweet, sexy, persistent, and a perfect book boyfriend. Eli is always there to try and save Grace, protect her and care for her which to me that makes him a perfect alpha male.
One thing that I absolutely loved about Eli is his presistence, he loves Grace and wants her. He'll do anything for her and he does. When Grace is trying to push him away he doesn't give up, he pushes back until finally her guard falls and she welcomes him in. I love love love a persistent hero and a stubborn heroine.
Their story is unique, their chemistry and love for each other is natural, and there ending although not completely perfect is happy. Mary Catherine Gebhard has totally blown me away with this book and has left me wanting more from these characters. So grab your copy today, I guarantee you'll love Grace and Eli's story.
I need a man like Eli in my life. He is just too nice for his own good. Grace? I really don't know. I loved her less but still 100% respected her, due to her childhood. She is strong, very much so. I HATED HATED HATED GRACE'S FATHER!!! -Sorry, capital letters do make it all more serious :') -. Also sometimes I felt hatred towards her mother too. I loved this book and it made me miss Lennox and Vic even more. I need to know what will happen to them, what does the future hold for Eli and Grace? And Vera??? God, I'm waiting patiently -wait, not so much- for her book. "Let Me Go" will make you sad, angry, but still it will manage to make you feel the love. And that's what matters.
Grace has run away from home and she hopes to reconnect with her brother Vic who left many years ago. She travels to California and finds him, but Vic doesn’t know how to react and Grace just leaves. She doesn’t know what to do, but then she meets Vera in a coffee shop. Vera has run away from a dangerous ex-boyfriend and together they find a place to stay. Grace also finds a job and she starts having a good life. She feels alive and independent for the first time in her life. Then Eli suddenly shows up and the feelings she always had for him, are still there. Grace has a secret and thinks Eli will never forgive her and that they will never have a future together, but she shouldn’t doubt Eli’s love for her.
I liked this book a lot! It was a beautiful, emotional book about a young woman finding herself and moving on from the past. I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, because there is a lot of things I loved in this book. The only reason I can’t, is because for a large part of the book there isn’t much romance. In the beginning, we get to know Grace, her horrible past and the reasons why she left. So there are a couple of flash blacks. We also read how Grace met Eli and the love between them, but that’s not enough romance for me. In the end, Grace’s true love, Eli, helps her moving on and then there is romance. Eli is a great guy! It was love at first sight for him and he loves Grace for who she is. He loved her and always will. He fights for her now and won’t leave before Grace talks to him. Grace is a strong woman. She has survived years of abuse by her daddy and is ready for a new life. Eventually she has a family and she’s finally happy.
I loved the secondary characters, especially Vera. She’s a great friend and roommate for Grace. She is always happy and funny. Something happens to her in this book and I can’t wait to read more about that in her book. I’m very happy she gets her own novella. I also loved Lenny and Vic. Lenny immediately accepts Grace in her ‘family’. She has her own problems, but she’s always there for Grace, even though she just met her. Vic wasn’t nice in the beginning, but once I knew the reason for his behavior, I understood him. There is a lot going on with Lenny and Vic and I need to read more about that couple!
When I requested the first book on NetGalley last year, I confess that I judged it by its cover. It was a really cute artwork of a mysterious girl's profile. It made me wonder who she was, and what secrets she could be hiding from everyone. The plot sounded very romantic, but the book was a lot more sexual and violent than I expected it to be. So, at first, it was a little shocking for me. I enjoyed it, but it was definitely different than what I had imagined it.
So, when I heard it was being re-released with a different cover and more chapters, that got my attention. And then, I realized it would become a series too! I thought that was so exciting! I immediately got curious about Lenny and Vic's future and the other characters they would meet.
The reason I'm saying all this is because I enjoyed the second book a lot more than the first, maybe because now I knew what I was getting into. The first artwork was lovely, but it didn't reflect the story. I know it's a terrible mistake to judge a book by its cover, but come on... At first sight, we all do it. Something has to get our attention for a reason.
Now, let's get into this story. Grace and Eli are so adorable! She's been through so much in the past and he was the only one she could actually talk to. Her father was a horrible man and her mom couldn't do anything to help. Grace is Vic's sister and the book begins with her going after him. I really loved how Lenny was so nice to her (even more than her own brother, btw). I'm glad they instantly became friends instead of hating each other. Grace's such a strong character! So many things have gone wrong in her life. It's amazing how she can still get up and keep going. This book also has a lot of violent and sexy moments, but they're all great. I couldn't stop reading it! It's perfect for all the angst lovers!
I'm really looking forward to read the novella (about Vera) and the next book, in Vic's point of view!
I absolutely loved Ms. Gebhard's You Own Me and she's always been in the back of my "be on the lookout" book-mind, so you can imagine how happy and excited I was when I found out about her Let Me Go! And while it wasn't as funny as the first book and it gave me a different kind of heartache - I still really loved it! It was an excellent read and I think it's safe to say it's my favorite in her Owned series so far.
Well, Lennox is still my favorite female character, but I really liked Grace! She's different, but the good kind of different. She's a little naive and innocent, but she's also incredibly strong. Grace is sweet, but she definitely has fire in her. Grace just has such a light, good heart that you you can't help but love her!
Man, Ms. Gebhard really knows how to write one HOT hero - Eli is just totally swoon worthy! He's so sweet and thoughtful and caring that he'll completely melt your heart. And of course, I loved that about him, but I also loved how dominant and alpha male he was too! I mean, we are talking serious panty-melting-shivering going on here! Eli is an absolutely awesome sauce hero and I loved, loved, LOVED him!
Let Me Go is heartbreaking and hard to read sometimes. It squeezed my heart, made me seethe with fury and want to hurt somebody, and it brought tears to my eyes. There were bittersweet moments, super sexy times, happy moments, and a few heart stopping ones too. I enjoyed it and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Let Me Go is a standalone told from Grace's POV and Grace and Eli have a happy ending that will make you feel all warm and gooey inside!
Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!! This is so the type of book I've been waiting for! This is the sequel to You Own Me, but you really don't need to read that one to enjoy this one. That being said I read You Own Me first.
Grace Wall has run away to California in search of her brother Vic, who ran away to California years before. He all but abandoned her to the hell that was living with their father. When she arrives on Vic's front step, she immediately has second thoughts about going through with the reunion. After seeing Vic's face, she bolts. She winds up in a coffee shop where she has a chance meeting with another southern girl named Vera. They set out on finding a place to live and quickly become friends. While settling in California, Grace can't help but think about her one love, the one who made living with her monster father bearable. Eli. Eli was there from the time she was 12, he was her safe place, and she had broke his heart when she bolted. Then one day Eli shows up at her work.
This book was so incredible, from start to finish. The characters in these books are so real and broken that you find yourself rooting for their success. I love the way she placed Vic and Lenny in Grace's life, so you can see that they still have a long way to go in their healing also. It does leave you hanging in some aspects, but fear not! The author has promised to wrap it all up in a novella and another novel!
WOW! Another great story by Mary Catherine Gebhard! I LOVED it, and very glad that we got to revisit with Vic and Lenny, as I have felt that their story is not over.
Grace Wall has had a brutal childhood, and because of it, she's very naive. Her parents kept her away from the world outside, but she still managed to sneak out from time to time when she met Eli. When he leaves her to go to college, bad things happen, and she's finally done so takes a cross country trip to find her brother that left without ever looking back. Eli Jackson has never stopped loving Grace. After some time has passed, her mother sends him a letter letting him know where she's at. He shows up but the naive girl he left, is not so innocent anymore. Can he make her realize that she doesn't have to take care of the world on her own?
This is a very emotional story. The character development is great, and the way the author shows past and present was awesome. A well written story line flows very smoothly. Mary Catherine Gebhard's talented writing style has shown once again, the realistic side of love, as it's messy and hard instead of being perfect. She also is brilliant in weaving together intense layers that are still being revealed. I was hooked from the get go, and couldn't put it down until I finished it. Grace's new best friend Vera definitely needs her own story, as she's a great character. I CANNOT WAIT for more in this series, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Book 2 in the Owned series, but can be read as a stand-alone. This book unfolds in the present and the past. Grace is on a mission to find her brother and try to regain a sense of family she has never felt. Her father was verbally and physically abusive to her and her mother her entire life. She see's herself as useless and damaged. Eli is a brilliant, compassionate person and sees the potential in Grace from the first day he finds her. Grace knows she would be nothing without him and his assistance through the painful years of torture. He has a chance to get away from the small town and Grace pushes him away from herself to allow him to be more. Eli has only ever wanted her.
A heart-wrenching tale of the pain and mental suffering of an abused young woman and her family. Abuse is a very difficult topic to write about and read. Grace, with Eli's strength and encouragement, has survived less damaged than she could have been. She still does not believe she is good enough to be loved and expects nothing different. Her brother has his own issues as well and seeing Grace on his doorstep brings all of those ghosts out to haunt him.
Let Me Go is the second book in the second book in the Owned series. It could in theory be read as a S/A, however, I would recommend reading book 1 first.
This book is told from Gracie's POV and in a flashback scenario between the past an present. For this reason Gracie's character is very strong. She has had a tough, sheltered upbringing and she pulls you in immediately and draws the emotion from you.
My main grumble, was that I needed more from Gracie and Eli as a couple. They were childhood sweethearts and through the past we get some feeling for them but I just needed more them as a couple. I would have liked particularly to see more of their relationship as friends to lovers develop. There were also times, that I got a little confused when the story reverted from past to present.
One of the main things that I've really liked about this series is that the characters are not cookie coated. They all have flaws and Mary Catherine doesn't skirt over this and we are left with really interesting and diverse characters.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The story was interesting and kept my attention throughout.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Let Me Go is the second book in the Owned series but can be read as a standalone. I haven't read You Own Me before reading this book.
What I liked about the book:
1.Flashbacks to tell the tale of the past. Through these flashbacks, you'll get to know the couple and how deep their relationship goes. It is when I connect the most with the heroine. 2. Story line. It was intriguing, engaging, and makes you want to keep on reading to know what happened in their past.
What I liked the least: 1. When moving from a flashback to the present, you won't be able to immediately tell that the flashback was over. 2. I felt like the story finished abruptly. It is a cliffhanger for the other characters, but not for the couple in this story. Maybe this is just me, but I needed to read more on Grace and Eli's relationship in the present.
So overall, I liked the story. I enjoyed reading the book and will definitely follow the series.

I really enjoyed this book, and was pulled in from the beginning. I absolutely loved Eli, he was a total sweetheart. Although I didn't quite understand why he actually agreed to leave Grace behind. Nevertheless, I really did like him. Grace has been through a lot in her life, and goes through even more when she doesn't get a warm welcome from her long lost brother after she went through so much to find him.
I loved seeing Eli and Grace together, and wanted to see them get their HEA. They both really deserved it. This was the second book in the series, and we get to see more from Vic and Lennox, the couple from the first story. Vic is Grace's long lost brother. I had some issues with him in the first book, and I still have some issues with Vic in this book, however I enjoyed this story much more than the first one. We get to see a good ending for Eli and Grace, and that made me happy. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author, and getting to read Vera's story.
I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review. This book had a lot of twists and turns. Grace Wall and Eli Jackson are an amazing couple together. They were dealt a lot in their lives but they pushed through. Grace grow up being physically and mentally abused by her father. While Eli grow up with his mom always working but not really there for him. Zero comes into their town and just brings chaos. After losing her unborn child and father in a span of time. Grace continues to take care of her mother eventually leaves home. Along the way in California she meets Vera and befriends her. After sometime she visits her brother Vic and meets Lenny (Lennox). She as a hard battle with getting a relationship started with her brother. Both Grace and Vic are stubborn in a way. Eventually Grace and Eli are reunited. Everything does not go all smoothly. Grace keeps blow after blow in her life. I really enjoyed reading Grace and Eli's story.
I was given an ARC for an honest review so here we go!!
I didn't read book one so I wasn't sure at some times when thing would happen between Lennox and Vic, (but of course this books not about them). So I'd say read book one first. My heart broke so many times for Grace. Touching the topic of abuse is always a tough one. In my view Mary did an amazing job. The book started off pretty slow for my liking but I loved the way she wrote Eli and Gracie growing and showing how they grew to love each other. And Eli not letting anything get in the way of him being with Grace even her moving across the country to get her back. My sick and twisted her was happy finding out Mama killed Daddy. I still have the lingering question of why daddy was so hateful but you know really know with sick people.

This is the story of Grace, who grew up secluded from everyone and abused by her father. Her only escape were books sneaked to her from her mother, and Eli, a boy she met by chance, who became her lifeline, and in turn she gave up everything for what she thought he needed. After her father dies, she leaves to find her brother, whom she hadn't seen in years. While trying to make a connection with him, Eli comes back into her life. This is a true love story. It honestly shows how true love can conquer all, even after an unimaginable beginning. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will definitely be reading all of her other books.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC in return for an honest review
This book is crazy good, super intense but such a great read. This is the second in the series but can be read as a standalone. Grace has not lived the ideal life, abused and sheltered by her father. She knows nothing of the world outside, until Eli comes along. The have a love like no other but what happens when they are torn apart? Years later they are reunited, but is their love enough to overcome the missing years? I really enjoyed seeing the past and the present story-lines and really getting to know the characters. It was an emotional read but so good. Mary Catherine has a way of writing that pulls you into a story and making you feel every emotion the characters feel.
This is a gripping and highly intense love story that left me reeling and I loved it! This is the second book in the Owned series, but can definitely be read as a standalone since this is the first book I've read by this author and I didn't have any problem reading this. There's definitely some dark subject matter covered here, but I loved how well this author handled it since this made it easier for me to read. This story moves back and forth from past to present, but it's not hard to follow at all. I actually felt that this significantly helped me to develop a better understanding of this story on a deeper level. I highly recommend this book to anyone and received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked this story. It can be a standalone, but it sort of continues the story of some characters from You Own Me. I would really that one first if possible. Grace and Eli are such an adorable couple that have overcome some very terrible situations. You can feel how honest their love is. I like the past/present style that it is written in, allowing the reader to see the complete story. Grace is an abused girl who you get to see her first experiences in living in the real world and being on her own. Eli is a patient man who is a good match for her. There are some twists in this story that make it interesting! This author is becoming one of my favorites!
When Vic's sister moves cross country to seem him she brings their past to his doorstep. Grace has never stepped foot outside of Georgia being held in her home by very strict parents. When she arrives in California she immediately meets a fellow transplant Vera and also by chance runs into Eli her one and only childhood friend. the story goes back and forth telling Graces story both past and present and many of the details are hard to read. In the beginning you feel like can someone be that naive then you understand her plight and champion her growth in short span of time. I enjoyed it! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is the first book that I read by this author. It seem that there was a lot going on in this book. Gracie is a sheltered girl that is abused by her father. Eli is a boy that she meet one day when she snuck out. You get to read their entire story from the past to present. It was a bit confusing at first with the chapters going from past to present. Eli was a strong character and would do anything for Gracie. Gracie didn't want him to throw his future away because of her.
What a gripping read! The book started with Grace's journey to find her brother, and ended with her finding herself, love and happiness. It wasn't always easy to read because it's painful and emotional, and most importantly, real, but that's what made Let Me Go such a good, well written story. I love that it shows that you can survive anything, of you are strong and you have someone by your side who helps you to heal. I can't wait to read more, my favorite side character is Vera, I really liked her and I'm interested what's going to happen with her.
Loved this book. It was great getting to meet Vic's sister, Grace. It was sad reading what she went through growing up but it made it easier when you read about her and Eli's relationship over the years. She went through so much and it shaped her as a person and everything she learned growing up through her dad was wrong. She wasn't the devil. And Eli and her repaired their relationship that she had broken. This was such a good book I read in one day. barely stopped to do anything else!! can't wait for Vera's book and anything that comes afterwards.
I received this book as an ARC for a honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Stacy Aube for Cutting Muse Blog Review.
Gracie meets Eli during a rough period of time. Over the years their friendship grows and becomes more. She eventually pushes him away and moves to California to see her brother. She gets a shock when Eli shows up again. Follow along with Gracie and Eli and see if they get a happy ever after.
I received this book as an ARC exchange of an honest review. While I liked Vic and Lenny’s story, Eli and Grace’s story stole my heart! Grace is a little naive, but all she went through in her childhood and adolescence served to make her a strong person, I think that's why I liked her story so much. And Eli, he’s such a sweet guy, who showed Grace how to love and feeling loved. I can’t wait to read Mary Catherine’s next book.
I really loved the story of Eli and Grace and how she was able to overcome her history as a child to be able to have a loving relationship. I don't want to say too much and ruin the story and where the story will be going next. I also loved seeing Vic and Lennox in this story and how they are still making their relationship work. I love this series and can't wait for the next book to see what happens!
Book starts out a little slow but does pick up. It is a cute read with lots of heartache. It has a lot of drama that each character has to overcome. You are left wondering about the characters and their issues even when you have finished the book. The author leaves you with tons of things to think about and builds up for the next book in the series.
I was given this book in return for an honest review. This was a different book for me and honestly was sure I'd like it. It lead me in and I finally got the just. Going from present to past gave you background so you could understand Grace better. It was telling story, thank you for chance to read something different.
I loved every heart racing moment. I was not able to put this down until the very end; especially when Vic stepped into the picture. You could tell they were somehow related even if not by blood. And the interchange between Eli and Grace and everything they go through to be together. Oh so worth it!!
I received this book for honest review I got say it took me by surprise I didn't know what to expected from one minute to next got say could not put this book down. I had to know what going to happen next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who love read with suspense, then would love this book.
