A broken time turner shouldn't have sent me back so far. It was unprecedented. Stepping on it-smashing it-nothing should have happened. At most, I should have lost a week. At worst, I should have disappeared altogether. I shouldn't have traveled back fifty-two years; half a bloody century. This should not have happened.

3.5 stars. Why do I want to sit on young Voldemort's lap right now and hear him whisper sweet nothings into my ear after he is done maiming and killing another offender of mine? 🗿

He studied me intently. And then he moved his hand over my cheek. Nothing. It meant nothing.
“Clever girl,” he murmured. His thumb curled around my chin. He rubbed the skin there lightly. “So soft. So pretty. So mine.”

There's definitely something to be said for a seasoned murderer that is every inch the perfect gentleman with impeccable manners.

Each time the word cunt fell from Tom's gentlemanly lips, seemingly without his conscious volition, it held a special charm and conveyed how much Hermione got under his skin. Precious little moments.🤌🏻

This fanfic reminded me of vintage movies of the 1960 and 1970s where men treat women with a kind of reverence or perhaps gallantry that is out of fashion these days.

All the events in this story take place in the 1940s and, in my humble opinion, the author did a good job of portraying a different time and creating a distinct atmosphere.

I'm fairly sure that this provided the primary source of my immense enjoyment that overshadowed many faults this story possesses.

He rarely left my side. His arm was constantly draped over my shoulders, wrapped around my waist; an obvious reminder to anyone who cared to look that I was his. He was polite. He was charming. He was a perfect gentleman. He held open doors, pulled out my chair during lessons, and presented me with a single white rose every Monday morning before breakfast.

☆ The way Tom Riddle sent one of his minions to the greenhouses every Monday to get Mione a white rose before the sun was even up made me chuckle more than once. Privileged and entitled men in books that treat people like their personal puppets... I'm drawn to them like a moth to a flame.

I loved how Tom's speech might have come off as entirely too formal on occasion and his manners — one of a gentleman's — didn't contradict his ambiguous nature, but rather complemented and emphasized the multidimensional quality to his character.

His celibacy before he finally met his Muggle-born time-traveler — Hermione, due to whom he wasn't able to exercise his celebrated restraint anymore, simultaneously added a weirdly sweet flavor to his personality and fit it perfectly, considering his high ambitions and goals that left little to no room for carnal pleasures. 😈

☆As far as Hermione is concerned, I believe that unlike many other readers, who may find her too weak and gullible for her prototype, I enjoyed this author's unorthodox portrayal of her character here. She wasn't nearly as assertive and resourceful as the original Mione or even half as smart as the author tried to make her seem, for that matter. But I thought she was oddly sweet, endearingly naive, and not too stupid. Especially in the second half of the story.

I have to admit I enjoyed this story mainly due to 2 aspects :

— Tomione relationship dynamics. Tom was so very tender with Mione, so reverent when he touched her and indulgent when she was being stubborn that his attitude made my cold, cold heart beat faster. And I won't even begin to describe how eagerly I ate his antics up, considering he was also possessive and protective to a fault. 🤌🏻

The initial animosity between Tom and Hermione, sparking the mutual attraction, resulted quite smoothly in their imperfect and unlikely couple.

My romantic heart and mind are unapologetically drawn to masterfully crafted small details (like a passing, featherlike touch, a fleeting flicker of emotion or a lingering gaze) that convey big things, and in that regard I wasn't left wanting for more because this author is insanely good at creating a truly beautiful connection between her characters.

I notice that many romance books nowadays regress into vulgarity and sex rather than focus on the romantic development of the relationship that is supposed to give me something less mundane than the characters falling in lust at first sight and shagging incessantly. Probably the main reason why I feel so discouraged lately from reading the romance genre.

— The writing. I believe that this author has a vast potential to become a professional writer. Many beautifully-worded passages made it easy to conjure up a particular scene or an interaction vividly in my head. Especially the ones that meant to shed light on Tom and Mione's developing feelings.

👹OH MY, A FEW FLIES IN THE OINTMENT👹

Nevertheless, this fanfic objectively has many severe shortcomings:

from excessive dialogue and interior monologue, which didn't necessarily annoy me (since I really liked the author's writing, it was surprisingly engaging) but failed to balance out the static and the dynamic,

to disproportionate transition from little and no action to many twists and turns piling on more twists and turns that mostly happened in the last 20% of the story.

Unfortunately, even the parts that finally showed some action were overflowed with lengthy dialogues and extended discussions that more often than not were not appropriate, considering time or place.

The story suffered from an overabundance of dialogue. It robbed Tom's character of some of its malice (malice that most certainly required more demonstration. More often than not, it was backed up by his own or someone else's words rather than actions) and the story of its supposed darkness and raw grittiness.

What in the living hell are those last 5-6 chapters supposed to achieve? 🥲 It is ridiculous how much happened there compared to other parts of the story that revolved primarily around Tom and Hermione figuring out the mechanics and ramifications of their feelings for each other. It'd be a lie if I said that anything that happened close to the ending made a tiny bit of sense to me. It totally didn't. My head was spinning, and I didn't welcome the sensation. 🗿🚬

All in all, as someone who prefers a character-driven romance to a plot-driven one, I didn't find myself getting bored with this story.

Despite seeing the potential, I believe that this author still has a lot to learn to make her writing smoother and be able to appeal to larger and more demanding audiences.

While a dialogue or an interior monologue may serve the purpose of giving an audience much-needed details about a character or the plot, it should be used more carefully, or at least not at the expense of other elements, such as description, narration and digressions.

When only two tools are applied predominantly to connect different parts of a story, it makes the story either too static or too dynamic. In other words, one-dimensional and underwhelming.

the fic reminded me a lot of Unsphere the Stars except i liked tom more in this one and hermoine A LOT more in that one. the way this girl was embarrassing me left and right omg ill need some time to recover. she should bless the day voldemort looked in her direction cause without him her dumbass would've wandered off of a cliff one day never to be seen again. sorry but she's so stupid and i'm so serious

description

i just hate in a tomoine time travel fic when hermoine is useless bc logically it makes no sense. firstly, what is hermoine grangers most well known trait? INTELLIGENCE. second, she'd just fought an entire goddamn war back in her time and you're telling me she can't properly defend herself against untested students? okay 🥴 she reminded of alina from shadow and bone. ugly and annoying, next

description

“Tell me, then, Granger, are you going to thank him for saving you the same way you thanked me?”
His implication was clear. “I’m sure I don’t know what you mean,” I replied coolly, lifting my chin.
“I was calling you a slut,” he clarified, shrugging.

tom is such a darling boy, he checked my boxes and definitely carried the fic but him getting his panties in a wad over a girl with a single digit IQ made me question his judgment a bit. (count how many times ive called this girl dimwitted in this review and note that i still don't feel like ive gotten enough jabs in 💀 what is wrong w me today)

description

OKAY that being said i still really enjoyed this book and liked the way it was written. good plot and character development, several mysteries to be solved and the slytherins are so cryptic and entertaining w their moral compasses, i liked that you couldn't trust a single persons motives. hermoine redeemed herself a bit in the last few chapters but boy what i stunning display of brainlessness for that initial 80%. but whatever i'm just glad my tomoine days are alive and well 🔫 ill be lowered into my casket and you still won't be able to pry this ship from my cold dead hands

"I would maim and torture and disembowel whoever tried to take you away from me—I wouldn’t even think twice about it. Do you understand that? Do you understand what I’m trying to tell you?”

So, this was hot. 🔥🌋 Gotta love a gentleman who calls you a cunt when it's appropriate (or not). 👀

Wasn't particularly impressed by Hermonie ( I rarely am in these fanfics tbh). She is either too naive for my taste, or too high up on her high horse to notice how condescending she can be.

Tom Riddle was the perfect\ possesive\ manipulative\ will kill for you gentleman. Thank you, Sir. 💦🧎🏻‍♀️

Not sure what was going on at all throughout the story. Hermione Granger in this story was… 🙄 kinda dumb? She was definitely paranoid to the gills. Her pov inner dialogue was rough. 🤦🏻‍♀️

But Tom baby, please know you deserved better. You were great sweetheart. 🫶🏽

This was fascinating... the first 60% was riveting.

Inevitably when dealing with time travels things get messy, but I really enjoyed the dynamics and they sexual tension up to that point.

I loved the lyricism of the writing.
I don't know why I'd never read a Tomione fanfic before, it feels like the idea was made for me specifically. The angst omg everything is so disturbing if you think about it but so so so good.

The only thing that absolutely and COMPLETELY put me off was the pregnancy. I wish I'd known beforehand so that I could've been prepared because I really really don't fuck with that trope.

Anyway, it's a good fic and I recommend it.

*2.5

I thought the beginning of this was very promising and very intriguing, however I didn’t like the the execution in the middle or the end. The characters felt very OOC, and Tom had zero development by the end of this (wasn’t expecting him to turn to the Order or anything but NO development was present).

The mystery was completely confusing and didn’t make sense in the slightest, but I did however like the Slytherin politics and scheming. This was a quick read but not something I’d recommend or come back to.

(Yes I’ve decided to finally mark all the fanfics I read on here, and I won’t be ashamed to admit it)

this is was honestly such a wild ride and I wasn’t expecting that from the first 50% of this fic. it has one of those endings that feels right and wrong at the same time.

so many pet names though. soooooo many.

Did this book give me headaches and make me anxious because of all the drama and complications going on? Yes. Yes, it did. BUT HOLY FUCK. It was the most intense fan fiction I’ve ever read. And Tomione? FUCKING SERVED! If you love an anti-hero (with absolutely no morals) who would burn down the world for the girl he loves, then this fan fiction is 100% what you’re looking for.

First time reading a Tomione. I could never picture it before. But the way this had me in a choke hold I don’t think I slept. It wasn’t even the romance.

Tom riddle was a psycho and I love it. The way I just believe this is canonically true. Tom made this book.

Hermione had an interesting arc. I wish she’d used more spells even while keeping her head down—something more to explain Tom’s obsession. But she definitely had her cool moments.

3 .5- 4 Stars

Time-travelling is confusing.

I can't even write a decent review because that plot just got more complex and my mind was getting blown 🤯🤯

I found it at times hard to keep up with what was happening but I just continued to read because I was so hooked.

Round applause to the author tho 👏👏👏 that stuff is complicated to write and they did it well.

The only reason I am giving this fic 3.5 stars is because I was getting so tired with the secrecy. I understand Slytherin's are supposed to be cunning and manipulative but I was so done with their BS at times.

Normally I am not a huge proponent of this ship but omg this was great. Tom’s diary entries were kind of giving Coriolanus Snow and it was just a massive vibe.

Nightmare by Proactive Envy was recommended to me after I looked up similar Tomione centric fics like Unsphere the Stars by cocoartist. If you haven't read that masterpiece run, don't walk. I finally got around to reading Nightmare, a Tomione (Tom Riddle x Hermione Granger) time-travel fic. The writing was well done besides the over-use of F***. I'm not a prude but it appears 936 times in a 156k word fic. That may seem like not a lot, but it was every other page blank this blank that. It was throwing me out of the book after a while. Like if it was meaningful and used sparingly, I wouldn't have minded it as much. Other than that, the writing was well done. The plot twists were especially well done.

Hermione is severely out of character, especially as the book progresses. However, having Hermione being OOC kind of makes sense in these time travel fics like Nightmare and Unsphere the Stars, because it's a completely different setting and time than the original books. I like these time travel fics, because they ask questions about how traveling to the past can effect the future. It makes for an interesting story.

Ahhh Tom Riddle though! Yes, he was evil and manipulative! Yes, it was great! Yes, he will do everything to keep Hermione safe! I love the whole "I will burn down the world for you" type of narratives. I also like the Hermione didn't try to make him "good", because there's no way that would have happened or worked.

I give this fic a solid 3 stars. I would have given it 4 stars, but due to the over use of F*** and Hermione acting severely OOC, I had to nock down a star. This was good, but not as good as Unsphere the Stars. I would not recommend this to some one who doesn't like Tomione or villain romances in general.

Trigger Warnings: Medium violence, attempted non-con (not by Tom), and medium other man drama.

Wtf idk what I’m afraid of more, tom Riddle or my love for him. Jesussssss I’m going to hell for enjoying this so much and I don’t think I would mind. Wow this book was goodddddd. Every character is complex and multi dimensional, Tom is PHENOMINAL, the romance is wow, despite the emotional manipulation and doubt about Tom it all made perfect sense in the end. Yes to that happy ending and all the side characters and all the plot twists. EVERY character is morally grey even guys like Albus and it’s all so RAW and good.

This was the first Tomione story I read back in 2013 or 2014, and it totally made me ship Tom/Hermione! I love this pairing so much, they have so much in common, so I was very hooked up. The story is great, the writing style is a little bit weird in some parts, but it's not that bothering. I really enjoyed the dynamics and sexual tension between these two! Since this story, I'm a member of the Tomione fandom and I love it.

Would reading this classify me as disturbed? Not entirely. Would enjoying it? Who knows.
I shamelessly admit that this was a highly enjoyable read. Although the characters didn't always align with what the original works depict them as, the author did an excellent job of making me love them anyway. Big fat 5 Tomione loving stars. Would 100% reread!
(Read trigger warning before starting the book because Tom stays deliciously dark and obsessed)

This book was PHENOMENAL! It was easily one of my favorite reads this year. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and I fell in love with this version of the characters. It was beautifully written. I honestly never imagined I would like this ship, but now it’s all I can think about. In my mind, it’s canon lol. Can’t recommend this enough.

deeply and vehemently confused by this entire read.

for starters, i CANNOT fathom h’s characterisation regardless of how it’s spun in the final five chapters because it’s odd and i hated picturing her as stupid and naive. ALSO why did the ploy jump so much. i was so confused and i still AM so confused. it was not terrible but it seemed inconsistent.

I can't believe I read this book in 24 hours. I could not put this down. I didn't think I would support Hermione and Tom Riddle, but this book shook me. I am unwell. This was brilliant and powerful and I will never forget reading this fan fic. When Hermione had her "scene" for the elder wand I was just a mess with happiness. She was written brilliant. Thank you!

I enjoyed the book really much until the last 10 (?) chapter. Not necessarily because the plot was bad but rather due to the massive amount of things suddenly happening. I couldn't keep up anymore with how was betraying whom and who was working together with whom. But in general, it was a great book.

Good start, but the ending was confusing as hell and I didn't like the whole befuddling parts where Lestrange was forgiven multiple times after betraying them, everyone and their mom falling in love with Hermione, the Grindelwald thing, and the whole killing Abraxas.

I won't publicly rate fanfic any lower than a 3 star (because 3 to me isn't always bad) which is why this has no rating. I finished it. I loved Tom's character. That's all I'll say. The rest is for me and my fanfic journal on goodnotes.

This fic marks my first foray into the world of Tomione, and as a die hard potterhead, I feel ashamed to admit how much I loved Tom Riddle in this story.

I do believe that this will be my last tomione read as well because the Dramione plots are way better and the angst is right up my lane.
