It's always hard for me to rate quick, smutty novellas like this one. They're entertaining and sexy. However, they certainly cannot be compared to a full-length book. So, know that my rating is for this particular type of story.

That being said, this was a pretty good selection if you're looking for a super-quick, erotic novella. At under 100 pages, this short work certainly covers some kinky, BDSM ground. It was taboo. It was raunchy. It was hot!

The story is about Bettina, a submissive that gets "loaned out" by her Master. She spends a few weeks engaging in kinky sex with a wealthy Dom. In the end, neither of them wants Bettina to return to her original Master.

If you're looking for strong character development, keep looking. Similarly, if you want a complex, intriguing storyline, this isn't the story for you. You won't find any of those things here.

This is straight to the point, smut! I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It is what it is. I found it to be a nice, sexy read. It was a great choice for a super-quick story that I could read in under an hour.

This was my first book by this author, but won't be my last.

It's a well written short story with hot scenes and a HEA. There were times I was more than frustrated with the utter stupidity of the heroine and the hero's blind acceptance of (and attraction to) her despite her stupidity, but I still enjoyed the book. I do feel that the big confrontation could have been done a little better. It left me feeling a bit let down, but all in all, I enjoyed the book as the scenes were well done and the sex was plentiful and hot.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yesssssssssss.

description

I'm officially obsessed with Annabel Joseph. I read Comfort Object first and went on the hunt for more after. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke. But yes. I'm obsessed. I love the writing style, the feels, and the sex. It's all awesome. BDSM lovers rejoice. Joseph integrates smutty smut with actual emotion, and I finished the book smiling. I'm off to find more!

So good. In typical Annabel Joseph fashion, the Master/slave dynamic is beautiful... even when it's difficult to read. I loved the flawed nature of both Bettina and Mark, the way they related to each other, their chemistry and how easy it was to see them falling for each other. This is a perfect sized novella as it didn't have me crushing for more, well maybe I wanted a little bit more. But only because I loved the characters so much. But truthfully, I really felt like this was solid writing and crafting of a relationship from start to HEA finish.

In the end, I loved this.

Wishing this was longer

The author does a great job creating a Master/slave relationship in this short but kinky read.
Mark and Bettina have immediate chemistry from the start. I loved reading them go from loaned to cherished. Our couple also gets their HE A!

I think this is some of the best kink I’ve read. True exploration of master/slave dynamic and while it’s definitely not going to be for everyone I really enjoyed it. Fantastic characters and a heartfelt story.

I picked up this short story based on the positive reviews from people I know, and Annabel Joseph's excellent writing . Normally I dislike short stories, even those twice as long as this one, and normally I have difficulty relating to protagonists who are into BDSM at the level described in this story. I was pleasantly surprised and quite happy that I stepped away from my "normal" likes and read this little gem.

It still wasn't easy to relate to Bettina or Mark. Bettina is an absolute idiot for going away with someone she doesn't know and almost immediately letting him tie her up, and Mark isn't much better for taking a total stranger home with him. So, we start the story with two people of dubious intelligence, who then proceed to enlighten the reader by showing why they acted so rashly. By the time the story ended I understood far more about who Bettina and Mark are, what motivates them, and why they were such cavalier idiots with their personal safety.

The BDSM scenes are beyond my personal comfort level, but fascinating (and... okay... they were hot too), and clearly consensual. I suppose the correct term is consensual non-consent, but it works in this short, well written story.

This story was unlike any I have ever read before. Bettina's Master gets off on loaning her to strangers, she is a "worthless slut" and they can do anything they want to her....Seriously? Now I have ready stories that the Dom would allow his submissive to pleasure another man, but to actually loan her to him for an indefinite amount of time...nope, nada, zilch.
Mark was surprised when he was approached by Bettina in the club and told him that her Master was loaning her to him, actually to say he was surprised is probably an understatement if his actions spoke as to what he was feeling.
I enjoyed the short story, it was a quick and intriguing read, plus it had Lots and Lots of steamy sex scenes.

I have read this as part of the Every Which Way anthology.

3.5 stars. Short but erotic read about a student who was into a D/s relationship but loaned out to others so her current Dom could hear all the juicy details. The new Dom she was loaned out to liked her, didn't like the idea she was being loaned out and took it upon himself to teach her to have a little more self respect (kind of weird when you think about some of the things they did together). .

Short sexy slightly dubious consent bdsm novella about a slave who's master gets off on loaning her out. The fun begins when the newest man she is loaned out to decides maybe he wants to keep her.

"I dealt in art. I recognized beauty when I saw it."

This book is pure perfection. It blows my mind to realize it's only 74 pages long. It feels like a thousand there is so much here! Annabel is a genius when it comes to character development. Bettina and Mark are so real it was like I know them personally. While reading this book I felt like I was right there with them, witnessing ever word, every touch, every look. By the end I feel a warm glow inside, like I'm wrapped in a blanket and sitting in front of a fireplace on a cold night. Everything about it is just so right.

Oh wow

I typically do not find BDSM all that hot. This little novella blew my mind though; so much so that I reread it. The dynamic between Mark and Bettina was out of this world. I only wish we could get an update on them.

Other authors need to take notice. It IS possible to write a fully developed story in one little book. There is no need to have 10...15+...you know who you are. Thank you Ms. Joseph!!

Yes, Master

Bettina is Bryan's slave and he decides to have her approach a man to be loaned to. Mark happens to be that man. He is definitely uncomfortable about it at first but he decides to take her home.

What follows is one hot story! The play between Bettina and her new Master Mark is phenomenal, I had to sit in front of a fan while I read this book!

Annabel Joseph is a new to me Author that I stumbled upon thanks to another Author...I'll stumble for her any day!

This isn’t really my cup of tea so I’m uncertain how to rate it. It’s short with many detailed BDSM scenes. I wasn’t happy that Bettina would go to a strange man’s apartment without knowing them, particularly when it’s to continue a scene. I thought it was very risky and dangerous although the author explained why she would do that type of thing. All in all there’s an HEA so that was good but the road there was bumpy.

This was just what I was in the mood for, it was just perfect.

Annabel Joseph writes genuinely awesome kinky romance. In a genre filled with crap, she's really excellent. There's only ever been one book of hers that didn't work for me, the rest have been exactly to my taste.

The writing was great, I loved the characters and the kink was super hot.

Vulnerable

Bettina was so valuable to her situation, she didn't have confidence in herself, her current master was a jerk a pretend master, good he was stupid and give her a task that would change her life and the perception of herself.
Mark was a good guy and finally found something/someone he wanted to keep.
Nice characters and good read....
Annabel always good books .

Being only 67 pages it was hard to get too connected to the characters. For that short though, she did a GREAT job. I liked it, it was quick and dirty :)

Fascinating

A chance encounter brings the slave, Bettina to Mark at a BDSM Club. Mark accepts her offer and takes her. As the story develops, Mark decides to keep her and train her. A fascinating erotic insight into Master/slave and their deep connection to each other.

There is erotica for the sake of erotica and there is a story wrapped in erotica. This was a great story that used the erotic as a vehicle to explore two characters.

Perfect! Loved everything about it. Loved the premise for the story; rotten Dom loans his much abused slave to the wrong Dom!! Brilliant. I fell in love with both main characters; they were 3D and real. I really felt like I was right there, watching the action.

The pace was quick, and I was hooked from the first two sentences. There's a lot going on in terms of making you feel and think; it's funny in parts too.

" Bettina:
What I really wanted to say to him was: I love you. I love you. I love you. But you scare me so bad. But I love you. I love you. I love you so much."

" Mark:
What I really wanted to say to her was: Don’t go back to Chicago. Quit your classes and live in my cage. I promise I’ll take care of you forever. You’re the first work of art I’ve ever wanted to keep."

This author is great at what she does, and I've now read several of her books; they just seem to get better. She's certainly a 'go-to' author.

A short read!

I've become enamored with the BDSM genre and other dark reads, thanks to Annabel Joseph. It started with "Club Mephisto", after a friend's recommendation.... As for "Loaned", she does not disappoint. While other books sometimes focus on the dark side of the community, Annabel Joseph, reveals the soft (if you could ever imagine BDSM as soft), safe, sweet side of it. The way it's written is erotic, and enticing.

At first I was a little skeptical, while I love every book I've read by Joseph the premise of being "loaned" out does not appeal to me. I am so glad I didn't let that stop me from reading this. It was wonderful! I loved the way Mark helped Bettina get her self esteem back and watching them fall in love...just beautiful. I think this is one of her best short stories and I highly recommend it.
