Fast-Paced, Dark And Twisted

When I first read the blurb for this book, I thought it sounded eerily familiar to a popular series by Pepper Winters and would be a knock-off of lesser quality. However, then I saw a friend's glowing review and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad to say that my initial impression could not have been more wrong! This book was fantastic!

From the first sentence onward, I could not put this book down. This story is gripping and suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat right to the very end, waiting to see how things worked out for Sky and Angel.

I won't say too much about the storyline because I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I would highly recommend it for fans of dark, gritty and suspenseful erotica/romance. Each of the characters were fascinating in and of their own accord. I was completely fascinated with Sky and Angel from start to finish.

This isn't a happy, feel-good kind of romance. It is raw and will make you cringe at times. Although it isn't nearly as dark as some of the books I've read, it does contain accounts of graphic violence, dubious consent, rape, abuse/torture and captivity. If those topics are "no-go" areas for you, then this book is one you'll probably want to avoid. On the other hand, if you enjoy stories with these themes, like I do, then it will be right up your alley. I absolutely loved this book!

Twenty one times I wanted to DNF...

Twenty one times I talked myself out of it...

Twenty one times the author uses the phrase "and yet." Both "and" and "yet" are coordinating conjunctions. This is like saying "or but" or even "and but." It's okay as a figure of speech every once in a while, but it's over and over and over again.

Twenty one times Sky's lady parts "thump." Her pussy "thumps." Her clit is "thumping." Am I the only one who finds this weird?

Okay, so really it's 35 times the phrase "and yet" appears, and the thumping is significantly less than 21, but that wouldn't have gone with the whole theme of the book so...

This is littered with plot holes. Seriously. I'll give you a few...

At the very beginning of the book, Sky's dad calls her and says, "I'm sorry, bambina. They tortured me... I told them where you're staying." Toward the end of the book, there is a big reveal about this, like it's some huge secret, and she acts just oh so very betrayed!!!

She can see amazing detail, including the emotion in his eyes (confusion, denial), despite the fact there is a black bag over her head only letting in minimal light.

Angel's father tells him he needs to stay in the mansion under the radar, but then he sends him out on a mission.

Then there's Sky's TSTL moments... She escapes her cell and on her way to freedom, passes a room filled with guns, knives, torture equipment. What does she take to defend herself? A shirt.

Then there's Angel's TSTL moments... The first time he left Sky unguarded, horrific things happened to her, yet he does it again and is shocked, shocked I tell you, when she is once again in danger. Don't get me started on the number of times he could have just ended it with his father but didn't...

And the dialogue...
"...you've already run twice, so who's to say you won't try it thrice?"
Who talks like that???

"You're no angel," she says, as I lick her lips. "You're the devil himself."
I smirk as she arches toward my mouth when my lips unlatch. "I'm here to make you sin."
"It's wrong," she whispers.
"It's so wrong, it becomes right, I say...."

I think I actually threw up a little on that one.

So, in the end, this is about Sky, "who shouldn't be happy, locked in a cell by a man who is only out to hurt (her), and yet, in some weird way, (she) can't help but feel grateful..." And it's about Angel, who wants Sky, but he "can't save her because if (he) do(es), (his) father will probably kill (him)." And we know this because we are told over and over and over again ad nauseam.

Twenty One was an insane, dark, disturbing read! Oh my gosh Clarissa Wild blew me away! Head trips, mind games, full on manipulation, yeah crazy! The majority of the story wasn't predictable and you really didn't have a clue as to what was going on until it got real, then it was all up in your face. The anti hero, villain was a real piece of work and I hated him. To me he had no redeeming qualities at all but I'm not going to tell you anymore because that would just ruin the plot. Highly...highly recommended to all dark romance lovers. But keep in mind, Twenty One isn't for the feint of heart. If you have triggers then this wouldn't be for you. Happy reading...enjoy!

Twenty-one took my breath away. That was dark, twisty, raw story. Sky is so stong and willful. She need to keep her secret safe. Angel is the dark angel who have to break her in 21 days. This story was not sweet, tender or romantic. There are scenes thar are disturbing and may make you flinch.

3.75 stars

This is my first book of Clarissa Wild and I must say I was pleasantly surprised that I ended up liking this book a lot. The first half of the book was a solid 4 stars for me, I love the suspense built up and dying to know the big secret. However, as I was not blow away by the revelation, I decided to drop my rating a little. But the story still has a kickass ending to not totally make me drop my rating to 3 stars.

Right from the first chapter, Angel DeLuca caught my attention. He seems like a sick fuck and I am wondering how is Clarissa gonna turn him into a hero. His name is Angel, but obviously he is a devil incarnated. He is the son of the Don, Joe DeLuca. His skill is in torturing and extracting information.

Sky is the heroine who was kidnap by the Don and passed to Angel to extract the information they need. Sky is mentally strong heroine that will not bow down to the mafia and will rather die with the secret.

So what is the big secret? Of course, I'm dying to know what is all about. Angel had no idea what is he trying to find out, he is just following his father's order. But little did we know that Sky and Angel had a history. When they are together, despite the mask and blindfold, they feel this magnetic pull between them.

Angel is quite a hothead and rash decision maker. Initially I thought he will be a total domineering alpha, a force to be reckon with, but that's not the case. The way he keep confronting his father without thinking anything through just prove how inexperience he is. To me, Angel is basically a bad guy in dilemma about his role in his father's organization.

I talked about not being all blown away by the big revelation because for such a suspenseful built up, I was expecting something more spectacular. Anyway, with all the danger surrounding Angel and Sky and the climatic ending all was not lost. Clarissa did provide a kickass heart pounding ending, albeit some of the stunt are unbelievable, as if the characters suddenly got superpowers.

Overall, despite Angel not being the perfect anti-hero, I still find myself rooting for him and I really like the surprise that we get at the epilogue.

Below are some of the question that keep nagging at me after I finished the book. Spoiler alert.

*about the warning of the book: is not that disturbing. To me is just a rather normal dark romance. Nothing too over the top or hard to stomach.

3.5 "smth missing in the dark" stars

Hmmm...

It was dark and intense and that part was excellent!!!

But i find myself having trouble with connecting to the characters...i didnt feel it, i mean there s a background set up for them, so there would be a basis to build the actual "connection" instead of captor/captive syndrom...cause well, the deeds in that area could not bring the sense to the characters bonding emoti
onally, therefore the background set!

But even with that, i wasnt convinced, it still felt shallowy and superficial (fuck, which basically means the exact same thing! Lol)

Anyway, the dark side should be pleased with this little gem but there s nothing above that...

This book is DARK, it may contain triggers for some.
It's also a stand alone.

In this book we have Sky. She's literally been betrayed at the worst time in her life by the only person she holds dear to her.
Then we have Angel (we met him for a brief moment in Killer). If you can remember him and what the family business is, then you know Sky is in for a bumpy ride.

There were parts and times in this story that I just didn't connect with Sky and what she has going on (or more likely doesn't) in her mind.
I don't want to give away spoilers as it's part of the main story line.
But everyone has different opinions of what they find plausible and what's not.
Don't get me wrong, the story line and the characters had a story the like of which I haven't read in this genre. It was put together well, and easy to follow the alternating POV's and get into.

If you've read Clarissa's books before you know you're in for lots of pain and some pleasure. I say give this book a go if you want something dark with an original story line.

+++++ 4 Twisted Stars+++++
I am a huge fan of this author's work and even though this book is dark, it also has a lot of hope and emotions in it.
Angel has twenty one days to break Sky and get what his father wants from her.
He will use whatever means necessary in order to make her speak. Manipulation. Violence. Sex. But there is something different about her that he cannot place.
Sky knows that her time is up. But she will be strong. She will keep her secret safe. She won't give in.
But when attraction pulls them together, can their desires survive the darkness of their world?
The book is full of twists and turns. The story is intricate and keeps you on your toes.
I loved the characters. I found Sky's strength inspiring. She was a great heroine that stood her ground.
Angel is ruthless, cruel and a cold blooded killer but there is also and allure about him that sucks you in. You will love him as the story unfolds and doubt your sanity. Ahem.
If you like a strong amount of dark in your books, then you don't want to miss this. Great work.

^5^ Big & Twisted stars

Once again the author delivered an absolute dark, twisted badass book!!
I'll leave the description as it is because is a killer-one and says it all.

What can i say about this book..it is a fantastic story with great mixture and fast plot, as i said above it's full of twists. It is a dark romance with intense emotions, suspenseful with very bold characters.

Angel is the bad guy you immediately fall in love despite his bad actions. You always find it in your heart to forgive him.
Sky is the woman that you wanna be and feel proud of her.
I adore her personality, she is so strong ans so hard to break. She tries to keep her secrets no matter the cost.

A really worth reading story the author has the ability to make you feel everything you read and get you dip in the story, personally i couldn't put it down.

I'm currently going through a dark phase and when I asked a fellow avid reader for a recommendation, this is what I got. Not bad. There were several elements of this story that I liked, such as the existing connection between Angel and Sky (their names couldn't be more original), the contentious relationship between Angel and his father, the betrayal, the deceit, and ultimately what Sky is willing to sacrifice her life for.

I'm a fan of descriptive torture scenes. Not particularly gory but evocative. It helps me build a connection to the captive and/or the captor. Yes, I'm that weird!

There were elements I didn't like, such as the timeline. I kept getting confused! I eventually caught on but listing "yesterday" and "past" became a bit much for me. Also, Sky was one of those captives who think that the more you mouth off and cause problems, the safer you will be. It was pretty unbelievable because in a true captive/captor relationship, she would have been dead already. If I would have killed her, I suspect a vicious captor would as well. I'm just saying.

Overall, a good dark read that I would recommend to anyone who likes a good dark read.

Firstly I LOVE dark reads but this was not a dark read with any rhyme or reason. Angel was an idiot and Sky was ok. I did not feel their connection at all. I found myself skimming through the whole book I honestly tried but I should of DNF'd the book. Their sex scenes were beyond silly how do you enjoy having sex with your captor from day one...where was the Stokholm Syndrome, the angst, the terror and the anger....other than my disappointment I didn't feel much...sorry.

DNF at 50%. Same old boring premise. Heroine thinks she's a tough cookie, but she's actually pretty naive. Hero thinks he's dark and hard but is a moron and quite weak/abusive in reality. And what is up with the heroine being horny all the time even though she is locked in a room with no clothes, no food and nothing but her miserable thoughts?? Shouldn't you be worrying about your life and the constant whipping that you get from the hero?? This book was boring, do not recommend.

Holy moly this has got to be my favourite of Clarissa Wilds so far. I sat to read a few pages and ended up reading it all in one sitting.

Sky is kidnapped and held captive. Angels job is to break her and get the information he needs. He doesn't realise how strong and determined she is.

Clarissa Wild has exceeded my expectations with this story. She blew my mind apart. I absolutely loved it.
If your like me and you love dark gritty romances then this is the book for you. Full of twists and turns this dark mysterious read is certainly going to be a re-read for me.

Sky finds herself abducted and held prisoner, to tell her secret. But she´s not going to, no matter what they´ll do.
Angel´s used to do anything to get his answers, and willing to go to any lengths, but this time he´s got his work cut out for him.
Little did either of them know the master plan behind the scene..
Dark, smutty and mysterious, just the way Clarissa Wild do best. Love it!
Do listen to the warning if you don´t like darkness.

wow... Clarissa Wild is a very dark chicky!
She takes you on the journey of Sky... and how 21 weeks, days, hours, and minutes changes her life to some very extreme highs and lows. Her story is as twisted as it comes, all thanks to an Angel. An angel who is the son of the devil, or maybe he is just the devil.

There is so much in this story.. I just want to spill every little detail but I won't because Clarissa weaves a super intricate tangled web that you just have to experience for yourself! Be prepared because the ugly is pretty damn bad... but the good makes it soooooo worth it!

Me and my friend were looking forward to reading this book. It's the first of Clarissa Wild for me, and despite the slight diappointment, I will be reading more of her books.

The setting and storyline of Twenty One are promising to be different than the usual ones. What could have the chance to differentiate this book from others of this sub-genre unfortunately falls flat.
Clarissa Wild’s repetitive wiring is owed to the fact that the reader is listening to a lot of internal monologue, pulling the reader close to our main characters thoughts and feeling. However, despite this the reader doesn’t receive all information needed to understand why our female lead has been taken, despite her being a narrator.
As the story moves along the explanation to her kidnapping and torture is revealed and unfortunately exactly what was expected.
The weakness of Twenty One is: there are no surprises. Our two main characters are checking all the boxes for the tropes of a captive/ dark romance story. Angel being the seductive yet tormented bad boy, and Sky is the innocent, abused, yet resolved girl. Their entwined lives are meant to be an explanation to why they are drawn together, and yet them being this intimately close does not make her connect the dots.
There is nothing truly special about Twenty One, which makes it a safe bet if you are into the combination of captive, mafia, and second chance.
There is nothing bad about the book either. It is a solid read simply missing something like a soul. As if the author aimed to meet the expectations of a certain group of readers, true to the motto “better safe than sorry.”

Merged review:

I was looking forward to reading Clarissa Wild's Twenty One and maybe because of that I was a little bit more diappoinnted as I would have been if I had read the book with neutral expectations.

There is one word that comes into my mind when I think about this book: indifference.

The setting and storyline of Twenty One are promising to be different than the usual ones. What could have the chance to differentiate this book from others of this sub-genre unfortunately falls flat.

Another “killer” book by Clarissa Wild

Why do stories that are so full of wrongs just seem so right? How can such a deep routed romance be borne from torture and abuse? And why is Angel just so damn attractive despite being a cold-hearted killer? Why, because the beauty of the story is in Clarissa Wild’s writing.

I must admit that I was hesitant about reading this book. I questioned whether it would be too dark and too disturbing for me to enjoy but despite the theme and the acts portrayed, I found it strangely captivating. Yes, there is abuse, torture and sexual acts with dubious consent but add this to the background to the story, and the deep-rooted connection between Angel and Sky, and everything suddenly seems more acceptable.

Sky has a secret and it's a secret she is prepared to take to her grave with her. Angel is the man tasked with getting Sky to reveal her secret but unbeknownst to him, it's a secret that affects him on a personal level. With her family unwillingly connected to the DeLuca’s, Sky is thrust into a path of death and destruction as she seeks retribution for her mother's untimely death. Despite finding a way to her revenge, Sky doesn't expect to find herself tied to Angel once again.

This was a fast paced, and at times, emotional read. It blended darkness with hope perfectly and brought readers into a life that they could only ever wish to avoid. From the depths of hell to a new life, readers are taken on a journey that will capture their imagination, tear at their sensibilities and despite all this, find love, passion and a HEA.

This is a STANDALONE Dark Romance novel. WARNING: contains explicit situations, dubious consent, graphic violence, drug abuse, and other disturbing content.

Dear gawd this is another one of those sick reads just like Killer and Stalker.

My all time favorite though .. MR. X. Go grab those up and read those while you are waiting for this release on October 7th.
You all know there is something wrong with me. There has to be … I LOVE THIS STUFF. Not only do we have Angel DeLuca but we also get a dose of Phoenix and Vanessa. Yup .. remember where we left them … I do and I freaking love it. Now don’t misunderstand you do NOT have to read Killer and Stalker to understand whats going on but dang it you should. You will understand then how crazy and just absolutely INSANE these characters are.

Okay so 21 years, 21 weeks, days, minutes and seconds … heaven help us cause the devil himself has shown his face. I know I keep saying this but this is one seriously messed up story line and its brilliant. I cant say too much because I give zero away in my reviews. There is kidnapping, love, lust, some freaky stuff, abuse, torture, and lots of heart STOPPING events. Really I cant say anything else. It would give too much away with one small detail.

Sky, our female lead, she is one hard nose woman. I was standing up and shouting her name yelling “girl get your shit together .. you got this.” She played the game ten times better … That’s it .. enough.
Click it … but remember the warning above. That is from Clarissa so if you have triggers move along. If you love the dark tainted side of life .. Click the hell out of this one. YES!

Thank you Clarissa for the ARC. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets! Seriously though go grab the other three books I recommended while you wait. GO!

what a torturous book is this! I almost died by curiosity and fear... he isnt saint he is the devil's himself. After those things he made her suffer you could think that everthing come to end!!! Nope not even a little bit... that end revealing Sky's most painful but at the sametime hopeful priceless thing! you will lost your mind. But I have to admit that it wasnt easy turn pages fastly not because story was boring and fluent, but because of content in the story you can imagine most torturous ways..

Clarissa Wild lives up to her name because you are always in for a WILD ride with her books. Her book warnings are no joke people, so prudes can just turn away now.

Now with that said, when I read I like to escape and it does not have to be in a field of green with hearts and flowers. No, sometimes I need suspense, thrills, craziness, and dirty sex that in real life would be a big hell to the no, but somehow it works. Clarissa makes dark and twisty work.

"My name might be Angel, but I'm far from a saint."
A saint he is not. You will down right hate Angel, but in that deep, dark corner of your heart you will feel for him and find yourself cheering him on.

Sky is the woman that is going to change Angel. Change his ways, change his thinking, change him to actually live up to his name. Her secret is holding them both back. He needs to know that secret to keep her alive, but Sky fears revealing her secret will get her killed, but will her secret get both of them killed?

I'm not telling......

First off, leave your morals and sense of right and wrong at the cover. This book is wickedly good, but sooooo wrong. My first thought was Clarissa kinda scares me a little, my second thought was no way should I enjoy this so much.
twenty-one snags you in from page one with a violence scale of 10. This is no everyday romance. Sky has a secret to keep at all cost, Angel is tasked with getting that secret out of her at all cost. The lengths gone to break Sky are beyond your imagination. but who will break first? Sky or Angel?
Lots of violence both physical and sexual, extreme situations, page turning plot. It's so evil you can't help but keep turning the page as you are sucked into the world of the truly evil. Not for the faint of heart or people looking for a simple lovey dovey romance.

This has to be my favorite novel of Clarissa Wild's. I've read two other novels before this one and let me say she has away with words. And she has a way to write dark romance novels. This novel exceeded my expectations of dark and suspenseful.

I'll certainly read more of her dark novels. It was captivating, intriguing and emotionally intense

I have to think hard not to spill all the secrets so all I will say is that in the end I will recommend this to everyone who enjoys a dark romance, manipulation, mind games and a HEA. Angel might seem like a Devil, but in the end he lived up to his name.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. Really dark right up my ally. But the second half became very unbelievable. It's only a 3 star for me
