Every red-blooded male in St. Helena wants Harper Owens…as a friend. Despite her efforts at seduction, Harper seems to be destined to end up alone. The only guy with a knack for unleashing her inner vixen is firefighter and resident rule-breaker Adam Baudouin. Agreeing to a faux-mance could help him secure a promotion—and save her family’s lingerie shop, the Boulder Holder. But playing with fire has consequences. Especially when the flame comes courtesy of St. Helena’s own Five-Alarm Casanova…
None of Adam’s quick-and-easy hookups have prepared him for a connection this extraordinary. There’s more to the milk-and-cookies art teacher that he’d love to explore. But first he has to convince her to trust the town’s most notorious playboy. Even tougher—he’ll have to trust himself to be the real-life hero this warm and sexy woman deserves.

Every now and then you pick up a book and you know from the first chapter in this is going to be a good read, no slash that, a great read. For me need You for Mine ticked all the boxes, my interest was held from start to finish and I didn't want to put it down.
I loved Harper and Adam, they were fun, passionate, stubborn, entertaining and the chemistry between them was SMOKING!
Watching Harper and Adam's relationship develop was so much fun to read. They knew what buttons to push to get a reaction and when to be serious and open up & share parts of them they held close to their hearts. I seriously loved these two.
Overall if you're looking for a heartwarming, fun and romantic read you'll love Need You for Mine.
I've loved this series from the beginning and Harper has been one of my favorites, so I was thrilled to finally get her story.
The chemistry between Harper and Adam is off the charts. I loved how they complimented and supported each other. It was fun to see their fake relationship turn into something real. Of course, seeing all of the other couples was delightful. The community in this series is nosy and it's one of the best parts.
The is a touch of angst, but it doesn't last long and the grand gesture is fantastic. I especially loved the epilogue. Marina has quickly become a go-to author when I need a pick me up.
**Huge thanks to Montlake Romance and NetGalley for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**
Don't know what it is, but these light and airy stories set in St. Helena always are a nice read when I am busy or not feeling well or not able to concentrate. Fluff with a side of nice.
after finishing the story, I did enjoy it, just not as much as I was expecting. Probably one of those times where my expectations were too high.
Harper is the town goody two shoes that everyone loves to be friends with but... that's it. She is used to getting the shit end of the stick in love. But she honestly doesn't let it get her down.
Adam, a firefighter, is used to being the town love 'em and leave 'em friends, Romeo. He's sex on a stick and he knows it. ...just the kind of hero who rubs me the wrong way to be truthful. Actually, for the first half of the story he annoyed the ever loving crap out of me and I just didn't see how I could ever believe in an HEA involving him. He was feckless and did things without considering the consequences. His inner monologues were shallow.
They've known each other for many years, and he's dated half the town. Thankfully not any of her close friends. I did like that the author makes it clear that they have never had any amorous inclinations towards each other before this... Until Adam happens upon her in her underwear!
But both of them need help achieving their goals and seem fated to be in the best position to help the other. She needs help saving her grandmother's lingerie store; the Boulder Holder. He needs help planning the town fair in order to get a promotion to Lieutenant.
The first half of the story is Harper always struggling to have control over her life. It was excruciating. In contrast, she keeps running into Adam and he is all charm and confidence, walking away and leaving her awkward and alone. It was infuriating and I resented the author. The second half MA writes some more depth into Adam's character and he starts to grow a bit.
There's the big let down and then the hail mary save, but not enough time in between for me to really believe in Adam's newly found love. Pretty formulaic. I did like the epilogue. I found Harper too perfect. She was master of all kinds of talent, beautiful, quick witted and yet I was supposed to feel sorry for her?? I actually felt more sorry for Adam who seemed to be cursed with the worst luck in anything except ONSes.
This is the third book by Adair for the Heroes of St. Helena series and so far my favorite. This book could be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the entire series from the beginning to understand these two characters a lot more.
Harper was one of my favorite characters from the beginning because she is unique and walks to the beat of her own drum. Living in this town it's hard to find someone for her to date because they all have pretty much friend zoned her all except for one man and with his help she can save her grandmothers lingerie store.
Adam is a firefighter who is up for a promotion but his biggest set back is himself. In order to get the promotion he has always wanted having a relationship with Harper is worth it. He knows he might not be the forever guy but with Harper it doesn't feel like that.
Adam and Harper both have personal reasons and need each other's help. What starts off as a fake relationship so they both get what they want quickly turns into them needed each other more then they thought.
Adair wrote the characters with humor and growth. Both Adam and Harper grew a lot during this story. Harper with learning to be sexy in ways she never thought of and Adam emotionally. I really liked how Harper just puts her heart out there for all to see but yet she holds in her emotions when hurt. These two start not only a great friendship but a romance that captured me from the beginning.
One thing I really loved about this story was the growth of their relationship. Adair doesn't rush them into anything but she has them take their time to get to know one another and gives them a chance to have their feelings develop.
I really liked how the story turned out and it was definitely worth the read. The characters are written well and I loved seeing the previous characters involved in this story. Adair describes the town in such detail that I want to pick up and move their. She has a way of making her characters realistic and making you feel like you are part of their stories.
I am really hoping this isn't the end of this series and Adair has more to come with the Heroes of St. Helena!
What a sweet escape! The characters of Harper and Adam are both delightfully endearing yet wonderfully real. Harper’s character, especially, is one not often written about - the girl-next-door who makes everyone feel loved and gives of herself unconditionally yet who everyone looks at as “just a friend”. She is written with such depth and sensitivity that she becomes the very reason this story works so beautifully. Adam’s playboy-type should be yawningly typical but Ms. Adair allows us to see his insecurities. This makes him much more likeable and allows the reader to rise above the predictable storyline and release that heart-fluttering sigh as the last page turns.
Oh God!!! I was really waiting for Adam's story. He was unique and I fell in love with him since I met him in "Need You For Keeps" :)
"She had him at hello" and "He had her at hello"
Everybody in Main Street knows this except for them.
He is The Five-Alarm Casanova
Adam
A hot sexy firefighter who knows how to kiss, how to sweet-talk and how to get laid with just a smile.
But....
"He isn't looking to be collected"
Or may be he is!!
She is everyone's best friend.
Harper
A local art teacher with the most beautiful smile on earth.
Their story
Harper was in front of Adam since forever. He was so caught up in his hook ups to recognize her but a kiss at her grandma's lingerie shop made him reconsider his choices.
Harper was never intimidated by Adam even when he caught her half naked at her grandmother shop that night. She was smart and sassy and all she was looking for was a man who can love her and Not see her as a friend. NOT Adam by the way Not in this Life Not ever....
She never thought that He could be the one.
He was Mr. JULY for God's sake hotter than the month itselp and she was ordinary Harper.
She doesn't do sexy and he doesn't do relationships.
Hadam end up in a fake relationship; he needed her to get promoted to lieutenant and she needed him to convince Lulu Allure that her grandmother's lingerie shop is worth a new contract. They started helping each other and ended up falling for each other. This was a sweet love story full of chemistry.
"There wasn't a person on the planet Harper Owens couldn't friend. Problem was, there wasn't a single man in wine country who hadn't already sentenced her to a lifetime in the friend zone."
Harper is an optimist. She wants to believe there's a man out there who'll see her for more than a person to ask for small talk, advices or give a hand.
It's the opposite for Smokejumper Adam Baudoin. The St. Helena notorious ladie's man wants to be taken seriously and show to the big boss he's got what it takes to be lieutenant.
While she's helping at her grandmother's lingerie shop, trying to impress a big name in the industry, a misconception that Harper doesn't correct right away about Adam being her boyfriend lead them to lie by omission and together, without trying to, thanks to natural chemistry and the power of attraction, Harper and Adam will help each other reach their true potential.
One of the thing I like best about Marina Adair's books, it's her heroes giving cute nicknames to the heroines. I loved how the author depict that only someone who love you can see your true self and what you're hiding from the others. How the other can get you, even if you don't say a word.
"It's real, sunshine. This was real from the moment I kissed you."
"Life is too short to be ordinary. And I want extraordinary."
A fantastic finale! I have come to love St. Helena over the last month and will miss this world. I will always think of this lovely setting and unique characters anytime I visit the wine country.
If you're looking for a light-hearted but well written romance series, I highly recommend St. Helena and this spinoff. I laughed, cried, and always felt as if love always wins when finishing each book.
I had such a good time reading Need You for Mine by Marina Adair! It was entertaining from start to finish. I don't know why I waited so long to read one of Adair's books, and I realized how much I was missing out. It is my understanding that Need You For Mine is the third book in the Heroes of St. Helena series, and while I can't wait to go back and read the first two books, I don't feel as though I had to read the others to get swept away in Need You For Mine.
Adam and Harper are the stars in Need You For Mine and what stars they were. I adored both of their personalities. Harper is a rock star. From how she handles herself when she was joyful and challenged professionally to how she held up when her heart was broken. She taught me a lot about being a better person. I fell for Adam right away, too. There was so much more to him than what the public saw and was pulling for him too.
Need You For Mine was so much more than just a contemporary romance story. We get to watch two characters mature individually and grow as a couple. The chemistry between the two was palpable and the intimate scenes were hot. From their first kiss to their last one in the book, I was hooked.
Harper's grandmother, Clovis and her friends were a hoot. I so loved that senior crowd. Meeting characters from previous books, such as Adam's siblings and their fiances and wives, sure makes me want to read the other stories in the series. That is what I love most about a series - following characters into other books. If you are looking for a fun contemporary romance with well developed characters and an enjoyable plot, give Need You for Mine by Marina Adair!
Such a fresh, fun, flirty, funny and sexy read! Need You for Mine has ALL the good feels!!!!
I LOVE MARINA ADAIR!!! And I LOVED LOVED LOVED Need You for Mine. I could not wipe the huge smile off my face throughout the WHOLE book!!! Marina Adair has this AMAZING ability to hook you into the story, right from the very first paragraph. Once you are hooked, you literally CAN NOT STOP! Need You for Mine NEEDS to be devoured. Marina's books simply put, just make my soul feel oh so good. Her books feel like coming home. Her Hero's of St. Helena Series, is one of my ALL time favorites, and I was ecstatic to see Need You for Mine was Harper and Adam's story.
I fell in love immediately with Harper. With her fresh, fun, bold, and giving personality she is one of my most favorite heroine's. Adam is the perfect mate for her. He is so smexy!!! A sexy, strong firefighter who has been known to be a playboy, but who is really a down to earth good guy. Harper sees that in him and so much more. Reading how their fake relationship becomes a real one, melts the heart!
YOU SERIOUSLY NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!!! All romance lovers, I know you will LOVE Marina Adair!!! Don't miss out on such a fun, mesmerizing read!!!! I am saving this one to be treasured and reread forever. An absolute favorite!!!! I can't wait to see what's next for Marina Adair!
Amazing book...Love this series..#3 in the St. Helena Heroes... First let me saw I love this seris and I LOVE Marina Adair.
Adam Baudouin is the notorious Five-Alarm Casanova for a reason. He turns heads, and sometimes breaks hearts. That's until he sees Harper Owens in a new light. All the guys in town just want to be her friend, and use her for something. Adam helps change that a bit. Love that about him.
Harper is trying to save her family's lingerie shop. The only thing is one of there big clients sees her and Adam...getting the wrong impression she gets put into a situation which might be a totally disaster. She has to talk to him.
The last thing Adam expects is Harper asking him for help in saving the lingerie shop. She explains what happened. He finds himself doing just that. But he has some stipulations.
Highly recommend this book, as the entire series. Ms. Adair brings us such a great small town feel, and it's fun. Love the characters.
Harper Owens has worked hard on her plan to get her crush to see her as more. She didn't need the attention from town playboy Adam Baudoin The only man who seems to see her as a female in the not friend way. Harper though doesn't want to go down the road of fun frolic frivolity with Adam. However, when her grandmother's lingerie store is threatened and she accidentally pretends he is her boyfriend.
Adam doesn't do relationships and after finding out he is in a ship, Hardam, with Harper he decides to use it at his advantage. He needs help from her to get promoted as lieutenant, the problem is he can't stay away from Harper. She oozes sex and he can't believe no one else has noticed. Can the town playboy become a one woman man and will Harper take a chance on him?
Loved this. It was hilarious and I liked how the chemistry built up as they grew closer. Had a ton of characters I need to go back and read about. Definitely picking up more from this author. A delightful treat.
Resident bad boy fireman. The girl everybody loves. Makes for a very interesting situation to say the least! Great storyline and fun, sexy read.
Adam is wanting his promotion bad. But every time he gets passed over for his self sabotaging ways. But this time he's gonna straighten up and fly right. All he needs is the perfect girl to play the part with him. When the unexpected sexiness of the town's girl next door comes to light, it's all Adam can do to keep his mind focused on what he needs. His promotion. Or is it?
Harper needs to help her grandma like yesterday. They are in serious trouble of losing her sexy lingerie store. When the rep sees her and Adam together and thinks them a couple it seems like the perfect solution. Only neither one of them counted on falling for the other. And when time is up and all bets are off with they face the fire together or will they part ways as friends?
I have a question for my English-speaking friends Does this book’s name make any sense? Because I don’t get it.
This book is set in a small town, which is my absolute favourite romance setting. I’ve never lived in one and I don’t know if the situations that happen in the books are even real, but I treat them like fantasy settings; the shire doesn’t have to be real for me to know that I’d love to live there. Also it comes with the required grandma and old ladies that are a constant in this type of setting and I love.
I liked Harper (our main girl,) she was funny and sweet. However, just like with most romance novels, I hated how her past relationships were handled. I don’t understand why the protagonist can’t have had other relationships before her one true love. That happens you know? People meet, they date, they stop dating and they meet other people! Rinse and repeat until true love!
But no, apparently Harper has never had a relationship before Adam. At least she is not a virgin (or there are no comments about it,) that would have made me knock another star from this. And she’s awesome so there are no real reasons why she wouldn’t have dated! Don’t give me that crap about how men only want to be friends with her; there are sweet, sensible men out there who’d have recognized what a catch she is!
But of course, playboy Adam does.
At least the plot puts them in a situation where they have to be together, so their relationship wasn’t that far-fetched. Harper is trying to save her grandma’s lingerie shop and Adam is trying to organize the annual firefight charity picnic, and they need each other to make that happen. And all the things that happened felt completely real: One of the shops biggest accounts is trying to drop them because the company has grown big and they’re a small shop (which happens all the time, retail is a cutthroat business) and the people that are helping with the charity event are all more concerned with their own benefits that what they’re helping for. Typical.
I did have a problem with the rest of the supporting characters. I didn’t realize it at the time I picked the title up but this is the third in a series, which it’s not really relevant to the plot of this book but most of the side characters are already paired up. My problem is that the pairings are a tiny bit too convenient: Harper’s two best friends are together with Adam’s two brothers.
*sighs* I hate when books pair up spares like that.
The romance was also a low point for me, while I was completely into the insta-lust in the beginning, I didn’t follow the jump from that into true-love. It just felt too fast for me.
Originally reviewed at Romancing the Social Sciences I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.
Okay, so the first thing I want to say about Need You For Mine is please ignore the cover. I don't know what's going on there. The guy looks like a KGB officer on holiday, and, while the woman is less objectionable, she doesn't really evoke our main character, Harper.
Harper Owens is an art teacher and shop girl in the small town of St. Helena. She's cheerful, bright and a bit of an artistic soul, and because of this, she's been friend-zoned by just about every guy in town. Except Adam. The two have known each other forever, but sparks begin to fly when they have a late night encounter at The Boulder Holder, Harper's grandmother's lingerie shop. Adam realises there is more to Harper than everybody else sees, and he's interested to explore that. In a familiar trope, the two end up faking a relationship so each can achieve something: Adam needs to shed his playboy image if he's to become the lieutenant at his fire station, while Harper needs some man candy to convince a lingerie brand not to drop The Boulder Holder from their stockists.
It's a pretty standard plot and setting for a contemporary romance, but the formula works here, thanks mostly to the depth of the main characters. At the outset of the book, I was concerned that Harper was going to be one of those Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbow heroines who communes with birds or whatever, but Adair did well in fleshing out her character. Similarly, Adam is more than the shallow guy the town believes him to be. Neither's backstory was flogged to death, but the reader was made aware that the past had a bearing on who they had become. It was a good balance that never interfered with the light-hearted tone of the story.
Sometimes, though, it was a little over-the-top. Between the cadre of sex-positive old ladies, the intuitive alpacas and the subplot about the lingerie brand, everything occasionally became so larger-than-life I couldn't help but roll my eyes. However, this was window dressing to the central romance, which remained strong. I'm also willing to admit that maybe it's personal; for me, the Greek chorus element of small-town romances often grate.
But, overall, I enjoyed Need You For Mine , and when I want a warm and comfortable romance, I'll gladly go back and read the two previous installments in the series.
Made me giggle, blush, and pull at my heartstrings!
Having read all the books in the St. Helena Vineyard series and the previous Heroes of St. Helena books, I was very much looking forward to reading Need You for Mine. Harper being paired with Adam, the hot firefighter Baudouin brother, proves to be an intense combination. There’s no doubt that these two share heated chemistry!
I adored Harper in the previous book, Need You for Always. She really does deserve her happy ending after all that she’s been though in her past. I like that she seems to be friends with everyone in town. Adam is the player who can’t commit, but needs to prove he’s not afraid of commitment in order to get a promotion at work. Harper is in a bit of a situation herself and needs Adam’s help, so they agree to help each other out.
I guess I should say that I’m not a huge fan of the faux-mance theme. There’s usually a lot of pretending, someone tends to get hurt, and there are trust issues. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed seeing how Harper and Adam’s story went along. Need You for Mine still managed to make me giggle, blush, and pull at my heartstrings! I loved being brought back to St. Helena and reading about the familiar characters. Frankie Baudouin is one of my favorites in the St. Helena Vineyard series, so I was delighted to get an update on her, as well as, some of my other favorite couples.
Marina Adair’s writing continues to capture me with all the warmth, love, and fun in her small town romances. I’m looking forward to seeing what she writes next!
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I can't believe I haven't read the first book in this series. I really enjoyed the second book and as soon as I read it, I swore I was going to get the first book and read that too. But I guess I got caught up in other books and blog tours that I was part of. Anyway, when this book was up for review as well, I grabbed the chance right away because I trust that the author would give me yet another good addition to the series.
And I was right. Honestly, this book is not going to be for everybody, but that's how all books are anyway. What I really liked about this book was the difference between the main characters. The hero was a player. He liked short term relationships, if they can even be called relationships. The heroine was the girl that men always overlooked. It was an odd pairing, but it was a surprisingly good one between the two of them. I like the development of each character throughout the book. I think the heroine started out as weak and insecure, but she slowly became more sure confident. The hero who would go to lengths to achieve a goal somehow found a more meaningful reward. This is a good book, and if there will be more from this series, I'll definitely be watching out for it.
What a great book! Reformed bad boy Adam finally grows up and tries a real relationship. I was worried at first that Adam would never be able to redeem himself after all his bonehead moves. The author did a great job making me fall in love with him. And Harper is just the kind of girl you'd love to hang out with. She was awesome.
The only flaw in this book was how perfectly perfect the h and H were. Adam was the physical specimen of perfection with no flaws and every single woman in lust with him. Despite the fact that he's "hit it and quit it" with half the town, he is able to charm his way into everyone's heart. And Harper is the town good girl who does no wrong and has no enemies. I guess I would have rather they were a tiny bit more flawed in the eyes of the town. They were just too good to be true.
Oh my goodness, what a hilariously romantic book this is. I kept giggling through most of it though my heart did break and I cried at one point. I guess I was too caught up in the story and that is just the greatest thing about Marina Adair's writing. You become a fly on the wall in her fictional world and watch the whole story unravel. I have followed this series from the beginning and even though I have loved each one, I have to say that this was the best.
Adam is one of those sweet talking men, “I’m a guy. Every solution includes sex,” he said, as if that were written on one of the tablets Moses brought down from the mount. “As for this not working out, your hand proves that wrong.” She looked down to find her palm had slid down that stone stomach of his, to tangle in his waistband." I really liked this book Adam was sweet, but stupid at times I loved him.
This novel shows so much heart. Opposite does attract and makes so much rainbow of colors together. Once again,Marina showed her unique style of writing. Kudos to your extraordinary love story!
This book is by far my favorite. Harper and Adam are as real as it gets. The story flows so well. On my must read list for my fellow Romance reading friends!
Need You for Mine is the third and final book in the Heroe’s of St. Helena’s series an off-shoot of the St. Helena’s Vineyards series. This series just got better with each book. Need You for Mine is everything I could ask for in the final book of a modern romance series. We have a wonderful heroine in Harper Owens. Although I thought Marina sort of beat to death how Harper was seen by everyone as a ray of sunshine that just lights up everyone’s lives and draws them to her. Seriously Marina we got it before the 1,000th time you reminded us. Adam Baudouin the middle brother of the three Baudouin brothers this series is built around was a solid hero. Of course for the ladies he was drop dead gorgeous while being both caring, sensitive, heroic and an impish bad boy. And of course for the purposes of the story he was clueless or at least refused to acknowledge his own emotions (ie. love for Harper). Harper is everyone in St. Helena’s sweetheart. But every guy she meets puts her in the friend zone not realizing there’s a very passionate woman hiding underneath her sunny somewhat quirky exterior. Adam doesn’t either until he impulsively kisses her one evening and gets a taste of the passionate woman simmering just below her sugar sweet exterior. So Harper needs Adam to model a line of men’s underwear to help save her grandma Clovis’s lingerie shop The Boulder Holder and Adam needs Harper to help him reform his former wild boy reputation and to help him plan the summers biggest town social event. To accomplish both they pretend to be a couple. Of course with that much time together and explosive chemistry, very quickly neither becomes sure if the other is still just pretending. What I really enjoyed about this book which moved it from 4 to 5 stars, along with the nice romance between two characters I could totally get behind and root for was that Ms. Adair incorporated the other two couples from the first two books in this series in a big way. Not that since the guys, Jonah and Dax were Adam’s brothers and their ladies Shay and Emmerson were Harper’s best friends it was difficult. But the fact that we got to see more of these two couples was an added bonus. And as another bonus we got to see quite a bit of Frankie, Adam, Jonah and Dax’s younger sister a great character in her own right from her and Nate DeLuca’s book Autumn in the Vineyard from the St. Helena’s Vineyard’s series. ChiChi Deluca matriarch of the Deluca family now married to Charles Baudouin patriarch of the Baudouin family also made an appearance as well as Lexi whom we learn with Marco DeLuca now has 3 kids and her restaurant is going great, and Sarah wife of Trey DeLuca is expecting. So it was great that the author let us catch up a little with the characters from the St. Helena’s Vineyard series too before we left St. Helena. Oh and for a lot of laughs there’s Mittens and Blanket Frankie’s pet alpacas and an oversexed set of geriatric grandmas. All in all just a really nice book which will make me miss the goings on in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena.
