Rannigan's Redemption: Part 1: Resisting Risk

Rate this book
Brilliant Manhattan attorney Michael Rannigan has his life arranged exactly the way he likes it. As a founding partner at the law firm of Murphy, Rannigan, & Metheny, he can let his underlings do the legwork on the high profile defense cases his exclusive 50th floor division handles. He prefers to simply breeze in and do what he does best: dazzle juries and charm the press.
His private life is well-ordered, too. Michael doesn’t have the time or the patience for relationships. Instead, he has a contact list of hot blondes who meet his needs at any given moment, whether it’s a date to a gallery opening or awards show. Or he just wants to get laid.
Some people would call him shallow. But they’re just envious.
Maggie Flynn has her life mapped out as well. After she graduates from law school she plans to take a job with the Prosecutor’s Office where she interned. But when she attends a job fair and meets Michael Rannigan, her plans change. She’s studied his cases, even heard him speak once. He’s smart and sexy and she can’t resist interviewing with him.
Michael hires Maggie and has her assigned to his elite 50th floor team. He knows smart when he sees it. He also sees the spark in her eyes. She wants him. And having her nearby strokes his ego. It’s not like anything will come of it, she’s so far from his type. But there’s something unsettling about Mary Margaret Flynn, like she can see through his bullshit in a way no one else ever bothered to do.
Maggie realizes that her crush on Michael is all but hopeless. He’s a self-absorbed womanizer. But beneath that cool exterior, she’s seen the man he can be and she’s sure that love can bring that out. In the meantime, she’s content to work with him.
What would happen if they ever crossed that line?

Slow burn with plenty of heat: This is one of the better romances of this kind I have read. It’s a letdown when the hero is a shallow playboy type and the heroine allows her attraction to him to overpower her better judgement. The mix here has the heroine not being overpowered at all. Maggie is a terrific character – her strength not wavering until the final scene, and even then we have to wonder who it was that lost control and succumbed to the attraction – or indeed whether they both did. There is a depth of honesty and realism in these characters that handles the tryst between the powerful bad boy and intrepid good girl way better than some bestselling books of late…. This is a fast read but not a quick fix story. It’s sexy and highly entertaining.

When an erotic romance starts with the word 'fucking,' you know you're in for a good time! And it was. I groaned out loud when I came to the last page, and it's a huge relief to know that all three books in the series are out, because I NEED to find out what happens next. On to part 2!

Resisting Risk is an excellent contemporary erotic romance, but not what I would call typical. The lovely protagonist, Maggie, is a strong woman, a character of integrity and charm. She's like the best friend I didn't know I had, and despite her romantic ups and downs, I felt connected to her the whole time. Michael Rannigan, of course, is a total rake. He's charming, gorgeous, suave and unbearably sexy - the kind of man any smart woman avoids. The trouble is they're drawn to one another, and eventually two magnets must collide.

All I can say is you will not be disappointed with Maggie in this book. Nor with Michael, really, despite his penchant for emotional shallowness and overstuffed blondes. And you - like me - will be desperate to know what happens next!

Five stars and then some more!

This is a story about hiding from love. The main character, Michael Rannigan, is a big-shot lawyer and ladies' man. He maintains a stable of gorgeous blonde bombshells and gets plenty of action, but very little *intimacy*. He seems to like it that way -- trauma in his past has led him to hide his heart away. Enter Maggie Flynn, a bright young law school grad who comes to work at his firm. She catches Michael's eye, but also appeals to his mind and his soul. We soon see that these two are Perfect For Each Other, but Michael keeps her at arm's length. He is simultaneously drawn to her, but also knows that she is someone who would break down the wall he has built around his heart. He can't have that. These two circle around each other throughout the book like boxers each waiting for the other to throw the first punch. Will they or won't they? Well, this is a romance novel, so of course they will. But how they get there and when -- that's the drama.

These two characters have a lot of depth and texture. We get to know them pretty well through the course of the novel. Even like them. With a character who is such a womanizer, there is a risk of him being unlikable. That's not the case with Rannigan. He's thankfully not some crass PUA douchbag or a rich entitled asshole. His relationships are shallow, but that seems to suit everyone involved. His "girlfriends" don't want real intimacy any more than he does. We see his inner thoughts so we know he isn't always terribly impressed with his vapid companions, but outwardly he consistently behaves like a gentleman.

In conclusion, this is a definite fun read for romance fans. Strong, realistic characters and some great steamy sex scenes. One warning, however: this novel leaves you hanging a bit at the end. So if you get into it, you might want to plan on getting Book 2!

This book had me hooked from the first page. The moment I was introduced to the main characters, Michael and Maggie, I knew they were meant for each other. The chemistry between the two of them was explosive and it was fun watching them try to deny the connection.

It was great how the author slowly released details about the characters instead of just dumping info on the reader. This story was full of twists and turns. Michael and Maggie are both lawyers and the two of them work great together on a professional level and on a personal level.

Maggie is smart, a hard worker, and loyal. I loved that about her. Michael is also smart and a hard worker, but he tends to shy away from love and all that comes with it. One-night stands are his specialty. But there's a certain lawyer making him rethink his bad boy ways. Will they mix business with pleasure? You have to read the book to find out. Trust me, it is worth it. I give Rannigan's Redemption: Part 1: Resisting Risk' five stars. Now I'm off to read book two.

Wow. Pandora Spocks can sure write romance. Its fun to read, steamy, but it's more than just the usual predictable romance novel. Reminds me of Fifty Shades, but in Rannigan's Redemption, Maggie the heroine is a lawyer. Newly graduated, she was attending a job fair when she sees the prestigious law firm of Michael Rannigan. Handsome, successful, rakish Michael, who changes dates like he changes clothes. She applies and gets accepted, working directly under Michael. She's attracted to him (like everyone else) but she's really not his type. But while working together, he discovers that there's something about Maggie that pulls at his heartstrings. The rest you have to read.

Recommended. Just like her other book Luke and Bella. Delicious, steamy, swoony. Well written.

When Maggie Flynn is offered a job in Murphy, Rannigan & Metheny she doesn’t realise that she is opening the door to a new world of possibilities, including those to do with the heart.
Pandora Spocks writes a convincing story that keeps you glued to the pages until the very end. We are also treated to an insight into the private lives of the main characters as they go about the legal profession. Michael Rannigan is the epitome of male ego and success while Maggie Flynn who is stepping into the law career has confidence and ambition based on the strength of her abilities. There are adult themes throughout the book, but they do not detract from the fast-paced story that holds interest throughout. You will not be disappointed!

Michael Rannigan, the MC in this story, is a player. He doesn’t encourage any relationship beyond the superficial. In keeping with this, he likes his women easy on the eyes and easy in his bed. In his opinion, anything more is trivial and a waste of his time. He even applies this nonchalant attitude to his business affairs, that is, until he meets the ambitious and over-zealous, Maggie Flynn, a recent law school grad. Michael was so impressed with her when he interviewed her for the job, he hired her. As time goes on, Michael comes to admire everything about Maggie, and she him. More so on Maggie’s part and Michael knew it. The two of them have a difficult time keeping their hands off each other, but like everything thing that presents a temptation, it’s difficult to resist and soon they succumb. There’s only one problem with this, will Michael change his ways and be content with only Maggie, or will he use her and discard her? Get your copy of this steamy hot read to find out. I just can’t give it away.

Resisting Risk is a wonderfully-intense and refreshing read. Michael Rannigan is an oh-so-sexy stud who thinks he wants nothing more than to dazzle juries, charm the press and bed blonde bombshells. Soon enough he realizes none of those things are nearly enough. Once he meets and hires the smart and sexy Mary Margaret Flynn a.k.a. Maggie, he slowly begins to see there is so much more to life than winning court cases and bedding bimbos. Maggie is a dedicated and determined fiery redhead. I love that she is strong enough to challenge Michael while wiggling her way into his heart. If you are looking for a passionate, electrically-charged read, Resisting Risk is the romance novel for you!

Pandora Spocks writes in this delightful way that sucks me right in and forces me to fall in love with the characters. (If you haven't read Luke and Bella: Two Streets Over, do it now.) This book is about irresistible attraction. Maggie plans to work for the district attorney's office upon graduation from law school, but she finds Michael Rannigan at a job fair and wins a job offer from his prestigious firm. They work together, fighting sexual tension while he dates a parade of Barbie Dolls, and leading up to a finish that left me pining for the next episode.

The book feels good when you read it. The author creates characters who live in the reader's heart. And the sexy parts are hot too.

The first volume of a trilogy, this novel focuses on a newly minted lawyer named Maggie and her boss, Michael Rannigan. Rannigan is something of a player and doesn't know quite what to make of just how much he likes Maggie. This book is excellent. I don't even really like romance novels all that much, but this one is really well-done. The writing is clean, and the characters are vibrant and interesting. The sex is explicit and super hot, fyi, and the emotions are strong. Spocks definitely knows how to bring the spice and tug on the heartstrings at the same time. I love how confident, competent, and honest Maggie is, and I enjoy Michael's sweet side that only Maggie seems to bring out in him. The ending definitely leaves me anxious for the next installment.

I received an ARC for purposes of honest review for my blog. Pandora Spocks has an incredibly original new voice in erotica and romance. This particular offering is truthfully raw, something you don't see often in the romance genre. She does a really nice job transporting her reader into the cut throat world of defense law, and in the end you really don't know what's coming next.

As I stated in my blog review, it's the book fifty shades should have been. The characters aren't soft or excessively weak, as much as bent. I am eagerly waiting for her second installment, and I don't state that lightly. I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to reviews which is why I don't do many. I always want something deeper than most of today's books give, but this one made it to my list.

Maggie Flynn is an attorney at Murphy, Rannigan & Metheny. Michael Rannigan, a sexist, chauvinist male, is only interested in one thing when it comes to women, and is obsessed by Maggie. Even though she's not his usual hot and sensuous blonde, he can't get her out of his skin. She has no illusions about him, but clings to the belief there is something more to him than an emotionless mass of sexual urges and throbbing. This novel is smoothly and provocatively written, replete with steamy, no-holds-barred sex-scenes, and raw, unbridled passion. It is a classic story of good (and not always so good) girl falling for bad guy. And will she be able to reform him? Will they end up together? Full of twists and turns, it kept me guessing throughout. Definitely worth checking out.

Interesting and provocative

I selected this book to read because I liked lawyer novels and I read a passage on Verve that appealed to me. I was pleased that the whole book was interesting and Michael and Maggie’s work relationship vs his rotating series of blondes kept me reading and wondering if Michael would ever see Maggie as more than an associate. More intriguing, though, was if Maggie would give in to her attraction and join Michael’s dating rotation, would they remain at arm’s length, or would one of them want more.

The end of the first book has a good cliffhanger and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Rannigan's Redemption is the first book in a super sexy series. For the life of me, I could not put it down. Pandora Spocks created this amazingly sexy, angst filled book full of hot characters and even hotter plot twists. It seemed like each chapter had something new for me to look forward to, nothing about this erotic romance was played out. Maggie sets her eyes on Michael and stops at nothing to break down his womanizing ways and into his heart. I absolutely loved these two characters and I can not wait to read book two in this series!

Rannigan's Redemption by Pandora Spocks really was much more than I initially expected. I was aware of Spocks' writing being of the erotic variety and yes, there is enough hot and steamy sex scenes in Rannigan's Redemption to keep any aficionado happy, but it is so much more than just erotica. This is a damn good, well-written, love story that features a female lead character, in Maggie, who is strong, intelligent, savvy, and has just the right amount of feistiness.
When Maggie, is employed by Michael Rannigan's Law firm as a junior lawyer, neither of them can deny the mutual attraction they have for each other. Michael has a well-ordered life of luxury, with even his girlfriends falling into a well-organised category. Maggie, simply, isn't Michael's preferred taste, but there is absolutely no denying the chemistry between the pair. Compounding matters, for both of them, is the issue of the boss/employee relationship.
I found Spocks' characters, even the lesser players, to be well-drawn, very believable and incredibly easy to relate to. This is always the sgn of a superior writer, which Spocks clearly is.
As I often like to remind readers of my reviews, by focusing on the very best Indie Auhors out there, us lucky readers get to indulge in some wonderful, fresh perspectives and styles, in the genres we love.
I would highly recommend Pandra Spocks and especially this novel, Rannigan's Redemption for a great read. 5-Stars all the way and yes, I ow absolutely have to read Part 2 to find out where this burgeoning relaionship will head next. A fantastic read Ms Spocks - Thank you.
