W.I.T.C.H. Special #3

W.I.T.C.H. Special: Cornelia and Caleb: A Love Not Meant to Be

Rate this book
This issue takes place some time after the end of the Nerissa's Revenge saga when Caleb ended his romantic relationship with Cornelia. The two of them are heartbroken and go their separate ways; Cornelia back to Earth and Caleb back to Meridian to live with Elyon and Vathek in the Meridian Palace.

This W.I.T.C.H. issue is unique because it acts like two separate issues: one with Cornelia's story and one with Caleb's. Each one starts in Kandrakar where the Oracle expresses his sadness regarding Cornelia and Caleb's separate destinies. The Oracle notices that even after a pretty long time they are still frustrated over their break up. He then enters a room where he can look through a magical lake and see distant worlds. It is here that the two stories start to differ: in one version he looks at Cornelia who is sleeping in her room on Earth and in the other at Caleb who is sleeping in the Meridian Castle on Metamoor. However in both cases while the one that is being watched is asleep, the Oracle decides to show him/her visions of what would have happened if he/she would have given up life on his/her home planet to go live with the other.

Just like the title says, it was not meant to be.

This has 2 sides: one for Caleb, and one for Cornelia. Offering us 2 different outcomes for 2 different decisions.

This special was made so the fans could see how there was no way for these two to be together, no matter what, and that the choice made in canon was the one with the best outcome.

Although some of the things that happen in here seem kind of forced.

The AU where Caleb comes to Earth escalated quickly and ridiculously.

the way this back-to-back upside down matching cover situation blew my mind as a child ??

required reading after nerissa's revenge. caleb and cornelia first met in their dreams so it's only fitting they see what could have been in their dreams too ☁️

one half to explore how caleb could've fared if he went to earth, the other half if cornelia went to meridian, both stories concluding that things are truly better off if they're apart 😮‍💨

this special really elevated them into OTP legend. f it — 5 stars!

My cousin used to own this special. She usually kept it at granny's house and I used to read it every time I went there, I loved the series back then and I still do. I can't remember if I already had begun watching the animated W.I.T.C.H. series back then but I always thought Cornelia and Caleb's story in the comic was quite sad. Still, I always enjoyed this comic, this series was one of the few comic series that entertained me as a child.

After the battle with Nerissa is won, the possibility of Cornelia and Caleb staying together is explored (and we get to hear the conversation they had that wasn’t shown in the main story). Both Caleb moving to Heatherfeild and Cornelia moving to Meridian are explored.

One of the better issues. I couldn’t peel my eyes away.
